From Butiki Teas

Almond Indulgence combines our Organic Kundaly black tea with cinnamon, amaranth, and almond pieces together for a flavor that resembles an almond cookie. This tea has notes of citrus and earth and finishes with a sweet almond and warm cinnamon flavor. We recommend adding a little brown crystal sugar for a wonderful dessert drink.

Ingredients: Organic Kundaly Indian Black Tea, Blanched Almond Slices, Cinnamon, Amaranth, Natural Flavor (vegan)

Recommended Brew Time: 4 minutes
Recommended Amount: 1 1/2 teaspoons of tea for 8oz of water
Recommended Temperature: 212 F

Oh my goodness! This tea smells amaaaazing! Mmm amaretto! I want to bathe in it! I have a soft spot in my heart for amaretto though I haven’t drank it in a very long time. When the husband and I started courting there was a bottle of amaretto in his dorm closet. Perhaps courtship is not the most accurate term, but no matter.

And the blend is beautiful as well! I think this was what Teavana was aiming for with their Amandine Rose and all the incarnations that came before, but never achieved. Now that being said I was a tad disappointed on the first infusion. I used just under boiling water as recommended, normally I would used closer to 195.

I’m also not used many Indian black teas and haven’t had a Kundaly black to my knowledge. Most of what I think of as more British style blacks, whether from China, India or Ceylon walk a fine line of astringency for me.

However this reinfused well and I added a pinch of brown sugar and a splash of cream the second time round and it was lovely! Will play around with different steeping parameters in the future, because I know this has the potential for perfection!

Received this as a free sample in my Butiki order.

I am not getting much smell from the dry tea but brewed it smells strongly of cinnamon bark. It reminds me very much of a cinnamon coffee cake. I thought I should have brought some brown sugar with me to put in this tea. Then I read the description on steepster and noticed it says to add some brown sugar… I guess I’m not crazy after all.

The taste of the tea cinnamon and amaranth. There is a slight pastry flavour on top of the black tea base. I get almonds towards the end of the sip and strongly in the aftertaste. This one reminds me of an almond biscotti.

I am not a super fan of dessert teas, usually because they are either disappointing or way too sweet. But this one is well done and I would be happy to enjoy it in place of a dessert.

This is great. Of all the teas I have tasted that are simalar to this one I have to say this one is the best. Thanks again Stacey, I will be adding this one to my list of teas to buy.

The best part is how balanced and gentle it was.

Nice review! I am tempted to place and order to try this out :)

Uniquity

I saw on another tea review that their almond cookie mix might be changing soon as she is experimenting with a stronger almond flavour. FYI! : )

Infusin_Susan

I have a sample of this as well! Looking forward to trying it.

Oh no I hope she doesn’t change the formula.

Butiki Teas

Uniquity-I just got a big order for this tea, so now I only have maybe 6oz of it left. I was hoping I had enough to last a few weeks until my new blend was complete but I don’t think it will last more than a few days. The new tea has a more distinct almond flavor.

Thanks to Azzrian for this sample.

This is a pretty good tea. While I’m not normally one for desert type teas, it has a real quality taste that is definitely similar to an almond cookie. It doesn’t taste artificial or fake at all. I’m getting some cinnamon notes in here, but nothing is overpowering. I do agree it might be a little light on the flavor if someone wanted a more powerful tea, but it is definitely not unpleasant at all.

I’m already on the 3rd steeping and this tea is still going strong.

Another new tea for the day. I knew I had to try this one when I placed my first Buitki Teas order, since I love anything almond flavored. I think the dry leaves smell like a sweet marzipan candy with a little cinnamon noticeable. The tea in my cup has an almond cookie aroma with a hint of maltiness. The flavor is initially almond, but then it follows up with a heavy almond and cookie aftertaste that lingers. I like this one! As with other Butiki teas, it seems to be very well balanced and all of the flavors flow together perfectly.

I slept in today. It’s dreary and rainy out today and my day is going to consist of laundry, cleaning the house and bathing 2 dogs and 3 cats. Yuck. I would rather stay in bed with some tea and a good book all day. But, better to do the chores today so that I can enjoy Christmas Eve and Christmas Day chore-free! I’m going to enjoy the rest of my tea and one of the sugar cookies that my mom and I made yesterday. We used my grammy’s recipe and they turned out perfect – nice and fluffy with the icing that gets a little hard once it sets but it’s soft when you bite into it. Yum!

-Dry blend has very large black tea leaves with sliced almonds and pink petals.
-Dry leaves smell like sweet marzipan with a hint of cinnamon. Tea liquor aroma is of a sweet and nutty almond cookie with a malty undertone.
-Tea liquor is a clear medium reddish brown color.
-Robust almond flavor and finish. Heavy almond and cookie aftertaste that lingers.
-Best with sweetener. Milk optional.
-Excellent tea. Nutty almond flavor with a sweet cookie aftertaste. Very well balanced.

Thank you, Ms Stacy, for sending me a sample of this tea!
To me, it tastes like an oatmeal raisin cookie, with cinnamon, of course.
I’ve had a busy day, practicing for one of 3 gigs this week. Thurs night is a wedding rehearsal dinner, saturday mid-day is a wedding, & sunday morning I’m accompanying a choir at a church. That’s the gig I’ve been practicing for. I’ll be leaving for the rehearsal shortly…

I drank this way too fast to even taste it this morning. I think that’s probably a good sign, because I don’t gulp shitty teas… but I want to hold off on rating it until I can give it another taste.

I got a very generous sample of this one from shakirah1984, and I am so grateful. I love almonds, and it’s so nice to have another Butiki tea in my cupboard. Yum!

Dry leaf smells like an almond biscotti. Tried this plain the other day, and it was good. Tried it again this afternoon with a little almond milk, and it was VERY good.

The dry, natural almond taste blends well with the mild black tea base. Of course, being the cinnamon lover that I am, I wouldn’t have minded a stronger punch of it, but the mildness of it does let the almond stand out quite a bit.

So I’m not in love with this tea – but I appreciate how others might really enjoy this. That being said, i’m not sure what I expected. This 100% reminds me of almond extract used in baking. So with that regard, the taste/smell is pretty spot :) I think I was looking for a taste that was less sweet. I don’t get the cinnamon that others have tasted – even in the light version. Stil not a bad cup of tea, but just not up to par with the grapefruit and maple pecan :)

Butiki Teas

We are working on another almond tea which you might be a little more interested in. Its going to be just tea and almond. No flowers, cream flavoring, or cinnamon will be added.

Sil

Good to know! I’ll keep my eyes peeled

I got this as a sample with my Butiki order, thanks Butiki!
I can taste a nice base to this tea, but I’m not picking up on the almond. It tastes like the Butiki Plum Pudding to me. I’m guessing the same black tea is used for both, which is tasty, but the flavors other than that are lost on me right now.

I’ll have to revisit this and several other teas again after I have sinus surgery which will hopefully restore my sense of taste.

Butiki Teas

The Plum Pudding is actually an oolong. It does get mistaken for a black tea quite a bit though. Both are from Nilgiri, so there are definitely some similar qualities.

Oh no, that doesn’t sound like fun. I hope your surgery goes well.

Dustin

Oh, interesting! My sense of taste and ability to identify things has been way off lately. I know I have been missing out on a lot.

Thanks, I hope so too! I’d love to have normal sinuses again.

Butiki Teas

It makes sense that those two teas would be similar since they are both sweeter Nilgiri teas.

I hope you heal fast. :)
