Winter Fire

Guayusa Tea by Butiki Teas

Spice things up with our Winter Fire guayusa. We started out with a generous amount of cinnamon then ground up some whole chilies and added a touch of cayenne to our guayusa base. The result is a cinnamon flavor that packs some heat with a smooth molasses undertone. This tea works well without sugar; however, add a little sugar for a flavor that resembles red hot candy.

Ingredients: Organic Guayusa, Organic Cinnamon Pieces, Organic Chili Pieces, Organic Cayenne Powder, Natural Flavoring (vegan)

Recommended Brew Time: 6 minutes
Recommended Amount: 1 1/2 teaspoons of guayusa for 8oz of water
Recommended Temperature: 195 F

HOLY HELL! So for those of you out there who like spicy…. Go, go now and order this. Now admittedly I don’t have a high tolerance for spicy…but I’m working on it. I actually like this tea, though I can’t drink it haha. The tea is beautiful….this smells like Christmas….but then you take a sip…and it’s liquid spice…actually the initial taste isn’t..and if the entire tea was the initial taste, I could drink this. But hiding behind the initial taste is a spicy fiery ninja of liquid fire! HIYAH! Yah that’s right….

The worst part is…I keep trying to drink it, going omg! When it gets to the back of my tongue..and then forgetting its so spicy and trying again. Kinda like childbirth..but with less mess, a delicious taste and not nearly as painful….so not at all but yeah… Except for the forgetting part.

So go…try this if you enjoy a bit of a kick to your tea :)

WOWZA! This is HOT HOT HOT! WHOA!

It smells like peas, cinnamon, and hot peppers. It tastes like Pepper, hot chili peppers, and fireballs!

BUT…you know what? I like it…it’s different especially for a Guayusa and I think this would be a great assist for those with scratchy throats! I might try cooking with this…white rice sounds like it would fit!

This is good it’s just burns my throat a little like really good peppers should. I won’t buy it but it is definitely worth a try :D

WOW! This tea is a mean badass! It’s drinking liquid pepper! Dry tea looks beautiful, shreds of guayusa with specks of bright red peppers. I can smell cinnamon, and pepper, and sniffing the tea made me sneeze for three or four times immediately! Liquid is of light body, it goes down easily, and the colour is brown. Steeped tea vaguely smells of, but it does not taste like, cinnamon (which I was afraid of – every time I was looking forward to trying some really hot, spicy tea it ended up being all cinnamon-y). You better prepare your throat for a little shock before the first sip. Because you will feel every sip of this tea all the way to your stomach. It’s a non-compromising, full-bodied taste of pure cayenne, slightly dried and refined. It is not insulting to the palate, at least not mine, but I belong to the type of people who are always on the search for ever hotter treat to their tastebuds. The hotness lingers on the palate long after you swallow. This is my first guayusa so I’m not sure what special qualities to appreciate in it; as to caffeine I’m drinking this early in the morning, so we’ll see how much caffein-ized I feel later in the day. I would definitely pair this tea with some food.

The description for this tea is absolutely spot-on. This is what liquid cayenne pepper tastes like. It’s comfortable only thanks to the cinnamon, otherwise it’s pure fire. I appreciated the fact that even though it does burn you, the burn only lingers on your tongue, not in your throat, which makes it not quite evil and unpalatable. I received a sample of this, I won’t be purchasing a full bag but it was interesting while it lasted.

I’m… not sure what to think of this one. I don’t know if it’s the guayusa I don’t like or the peppers. This is the first guayusa tea I’ve ever tried, so I really have no point of reference for this. I get mostly an herbal-y kind of flavor, sort of like mate and rooibos and… rosemary?… all combined together. The peppers have QUITE a kick to them, which I’m also not too fond of (the hubby hypothesized that this might have been caused by an accidental oversteepage, which we were a little guilty of). Sweetening it only compounded this problem. We tried adding a little half and half, and initially it was a better, but it didn’t last long. I think I just don’t like it, to be quite honest. I’ve tried it all the ways I can think of, and I can’t make myself drink an entire cup. Maybe guayusa tea is just not for me… which is why I’m not going to rate this one.

I got this as a sample from Shelley_Lorraine! Thanks for sharing! I just realized that this will be my first guyusa!

The first few sips bring the word FINAALLYYYYYYYYY to my mind! This is spicey! Like really spicy, not just spicy but really only has a hint of spice to it. This has kick and I like it, but it’s not so intense I can’t drink it. I can pick out some cinnamon and the burn lingers for a minute or so. I’m getting over (I hope) being sick right now and even tho I can’t taste all the flavors, this tea is perfect! I would love to find a chocolate tea with this level of heat!

Sadly tho, I’m learning the hard way that I shouldn’t drink guyusa until I have weaned the baby. The child hasn’t slept all day and won’t go to bed. It’s going to be a long night!

I am loving this! I am quite tolerant of spicy things so this isn’t really that spicy to me. The spice is there but it doesn’t bother me like I am sure it does to some. But I am loving the combination of cinnamon and cayenne. This is a great pick me up in the morning. This is the wake up call I need sometimes. Another bonus of the cayenne is that it is a good spice to jump start my metabolism in the morning. I will definitely have some of this in my permanent stash :-) Thanks Stacy another great one!

Just what I needed this morning to wake and warm me up at the same time. :-)

You know, I read the reviews on here and I thought “yum, a spicy tea; I can take it.”

That was wrong. This is incredibly hot, and I’m afraid I can’t finish a glass of it due to the intense burning it induces in the back of my throat. I love guayusa blends and I bet this is delicious, but I just can’t get past the initial pain. Proceed with caution if your spice tolerance is low!

This is JUST the perfect spicy tea I’ve been looking for! While trying to decide which tea to drink this morning, I was looking at the snow falling out the window and decided this one would be appropriate. I steeped this for the perfect amount of heat. The base tea works great with these flavors. I love it because it has cinnamon and cayenne! Yum! The toasty, spicy flavor really stays with you. I haven’t tried a not-delicious tea from Butiki yet – they are PROS.

Additional notes: Having this one again. My sinuses are bugging me (thanks for yet another fun thing, winter! Why not get dark at 4:30PM when there was hardly any light all day anyway? Or any light for weeks? sigh.) I just LOVE this tea. It is the perfect amount of heat & spiciness. Cinnamon, cayenne, chili peppers! This one might be good mixed with something chocolatey, but I wouldn’t want to ruin how perfect this one already is by adding anything to it. And the guayusa is sure to give me an energy boost!
