From Butiki Teas

Our Maple Pecan Oolong utilizes our Nilgiri Frost Oolong base. This smooth, silky tea has maple notes that develop into pecan notes then finish with maple notes that linger. Some citrus notes may also be detected. The flavors weave together brilliantly and are well balanced with the oolong base. With a little sugar the maple and pecan intensify for a wonderful desert treat that resembles a pecan pie. We recommend adding sugar slowly; too much sugar and the tea will taste like exactly like fresh maple syrup with a hint of pecan.

Ingredients: Nilgiri Frost Oolong, Pecans, Organic Natural Flavoring (vegan)

Recommended Brew Time: 4 minutes
Recommended Amount: 1 1/2 teaspoons of tea for 8oz of water

WOW.

I recently placed a fairly sizable order with Butiki largely based on reviews on this site. As an aside, the Butiki folks are wonderful. I corresponded with them a bit via email and they offered excellent customer service and follow-up on my order. The order was fulfilled, shipped, and delivered very quickly.

I got my order from them in the mail today and decided to try this tea, thinking a maple pecan oolong would warm the soul on a wintry day.

I was right, and WOW the taste of this tea was wonderful. There aren’t enough superlatives to describe how good it was. It was definitely a When Harry Met Sally “I’ll have what she’s having!” type experience. (Those that have seen When Harry Met Sally know what I’m talking about. Those that haven’t should go watch it, preferably with a cup of Maple Pecan Oolong.)

The flavor was exactly the ideal of what I imagined it’d taste like. The maple and pecan flavors are very rich without being over-the-top decadent. Just the right amount of sweetness: yes, it’s definitely there, but it’s not an overwhelming, POW! in-your-face type sweetness.

I’m still learning about the vocabulary of reviewing teas, and so just learning to pay attention to things like mouthfeel, but I would say this tea is very smooth.

I steeped it per the instructions on the bag: 170 degrees at 4 minutes.

The only reason I didn’t rate this a 100 is because the subsequent steeps (on the third one now) are a little weaker than the first, whereas some other teas I’ve had still taste roughly the same on the third or fourth steep. I did do the second and third steeps at 4 minutes though, like the first, so in future I’ll try adding more steep times to subsequent steeps.

Bottom line: If you read the title of “Maple Pecan Oolong,” and think, “Ooo, that might be something I’d like,” go get this tea, you won’t be disappointed.

Thanks again to Courtney for sending some of this one my way!

I finished off the last of this one tonight and decided to add some sugar to see if I could get more maple. I am SO GLAD I did. This one is incredible — liquid maple syrup incredible! Yum yum yum!

Another tea from my swap with Dinosara.

I’ve also really wanted to try Butiki for a while! Their flavored oolongs seem to get really good reviews. LOVE the scent of this one. Obviously it’s not as strong after brewing, but was still nutty and deserty. I probably should have added sugar to it (which I dont normally do).

I have to confess that I ordered this tea hoping it would be like drinking pecan pie – and it SO is! The moment I opened this tea I was immediately taken aback at how wonderful the dried leaf smelled. Once brewed the flavor held true to its name and then some. I have become quickly addicted to this blend and gone through so much that I had to order an additional batch for fear of being without it. In short, if you even slightly enjoy maple and/or pecan pie you will be in heaven.

The first time I brewed this one I wasn’t super excited about it. It tasted a bit weak to me, and I wasn’t getting much maple out of it at all. After making it a few more times, it grew on me a lot. I think adding a bit more leaves + increasing the water temperature from the brewing suggestions on the bag helped. It has a lovely oolong base to it, and then it tastes like real fresh walnut, and finishes with a light kiss of maple at the end. I think using some maple syrup to sweeten it with instead of honey could really add to the flavour as well. I will definitely consider buying more of this one when we run out!

This tea makes me happy! It’s really smooth and slightly mapley sweet. I added a small amount of sugar and it totally quenched my craving for dessert. Unfortunately, on the second steep I let the water get too hot and the tea had a burned taste. Totally my fault though.

I straight up adore this tea. I crave it sometimes. I’ts probably one of my favorite oolongs because the pecan just compliments the oolong earthiness so well. It isn’t sweet but it plays at sweetness. The aroma when you open the bag is HEAVEN! It just makes me think of curling up to a fire and eating a big ol piece of pecan pie.

By far my favorite of the flavored teas from Butiki I’ve tried so far.

The dry leaves smell very strong, almost like flavored coffee grounds. Once the tea’s steeped, though, the scent – and flavor – mellow out quite a bit. It’s very sweet, even on its own. I taste more maple than pecan, although I do get some pecan. The oolong base comes out more once the tea has cooled a bit, as others have noted. I was dubious about the concept of flavored oolongs – this was my first – but it works quite well as a base here.

I can’t say I’m getting pecan pie – but, to be honest, I’m yet to pick up on baked-good/pastry notes in any tea thus far. There is a creamy, rich quality to it, though not, in my opinion, one that screams pie crust.

This is my first time purchasing from Butiki Teas and certainly not my last. Out of the five teas (including two free samples of choice) that I ordered, the aroma won me over. I have never smelled a tea that smelled just like pie. The tea had a lot of maple flavor, more than pecan and not a lot of oolong the first steep. It depends on what your preference is. If looking for a desert style, this is your tea. I personally like the second steep better because the maple flavors were a bit toned down and the oolong flavor was more present. It is sweet warm and buttery, definitely a good blend. First time buying from Butiki and just from tasting this cup I could tell they were not lying about their quality.

I made a joint Butiki order with my coworker. It’s her first time trying Butiki teas and she chose this one to try first. She loved it! And it smelled so good that I asked her if I could steal a cup from her. I ordered this the first time I made a Butiki order but there was something about it I didn’t like, and I sent the rest off in a travelling tea box. I am not the biggest fan of maple to begin with, and I think I found it smelled and tasted a little like chlorine, and when I smelled the bag of the dry leaf today, I smelled that same thing. It didn’t come through in the taste though. It was so sweet with such a true maple flavour. The pecan is a little more subtle, but still there. The flavour in the resteep was surprisingly almost as strong as the first steep! I enjoyed this so much that I will be ordering this again next time I make an order. Bumping up the rating (a lot)!
