Creamy Eggnog

Green Tea by Butiki Teas

Creamy Eggnog is part of our holiday series that encompasses a number of holidays from different religions. Many people might not think of eggnog as their number one choice for a Christmas flavor but Eggnog is particularly important in my family’s tradition of celebrating Christmas. Eggnog always marked the beginning of the Christmas season and was the last thing we would drink before we would try to go to sleep Christmas Eve. As a child, getting any sleep Christmas Eve would have been a miracle. There was always so much excitement and anticipation building. Creamy Eggnog pairs our buttery Organic Huangshan Mao Feng with a rich creamy eggnog flavor. The tea and flavor work well with each other and neither overshadows the other. This tea is sweet with a heavy cream and eggy quality. Add a little brown crystal sugar and the tea becomes extremely creamy, rich, and very much like eggnog. Some vanilla notes become pronounced and so do the egg notes. We added safflower for a touch of red for a festive Christmas colored tea.

Ingredients: Organic Chinese Tea, Safflower, Organic Natural Flavoring

Recommended Brew Time: 4 minutes
Recommended Amount: 2 teaspoons of tea for 8oz of water
Recommended Temperature: 180 F

I received a sample of this tea with my last order from Butiki Teas, and based on what everyone else has been saying about this tea, I’m really excited to try it.

Oh my gawd … I wish I had tried this about two months ago, so that I could use this in my 12 Days of Christmas tea swap. It is so yummy. Maybe not french … but the creamy, custard-y, eggnog is kind of hen-ish… right? Yummy yummy yummy! I’m loving this.

I’ve tried a few eggnog flavored teas, but this one is the best that I’ve tried so far. It is SPOT ON eggnog flavor. All that it needs it a touch of nutmeg … which can be remedied with a little bit of freshly ground nutmeg added right to the teapot before brewing.

Totally and completely, utterly YUM!

Butiki Teas

I’m loving this tea. I feel like the Organic Huangshan Mao Feng and the eggnog flavor work really well together. They work with each other and neither really overshadows the other. Originally, I had designed this blend to have rum, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla and was going to add a lot to it but after trying just the base and our flavoring mixture it seemed perfect and I didn’t want to change anything. This tea might not look so fancy but to me it’s perfect. From sip to sip, I get slightly different tastes. The vegetal notes are still present but the buttery quality of the tea really adds to eggnog. The eggnog is sweet and tastes of heavy cream with an eggy quality. Some sips, I almost get a cake batter flavor. When I add a little brown crystal sugar, the tea is really creamy, rich, and very much like eggnog. Some vanilla notes become a little more pronounced and so do the egg notes and it really is so delicious that I must get every drop out of the cup. One guilty admission, I added safflower because I thought the red safflower with the green tea leaves was a little more Christmas-y.

OH man oh man oh man. This is delicious. It smells rich and creamy and like vanilla. It tastes…. rich and creamy and like vanilla. Eggy vanilla (you know what I mean, yes?). The spices, however, are not making themselves known to me as much as I would have expected.

I was originally going to say that I can’t taste the base tea, but as I’m sitting here, I am definitely tasting it coming through all creamy and vegetal and delicious. I actually ordered a bag of this base as well, so I can have some fun identifying flavours later.

Anyways…. this is very, very good. I’m not detecting too much spicing, which tempts me to put in a dash of nutmeg and itty bitty pinch of cinnamon (or whatever the heck spices are in eggnog) next time I brew it, but this is by far the best vanilla tea I’ve tried. The choice of base is absolutely perfect.

Ah… that went down quickly. I guess that means it’s bedtime. Good thing, eyes only half open while writing tasting note….

ETA: The re-steep is amazingly delicious as well, just a bit less intense. I can hardly wait to try the base tea by itself (but not tonight: too tired!)

Just chugged a cool glass of deliciousness. Definitely going to regret this when I wake up at 4am and have to pee…

(it will be worth it).

Made a delicious cup of this for my mom tonight. I think she may have finished the whole thing, so I’ll only get the second infusion, but that’s ok. She likes it, but definitely doesn’t think it tastes like eggnog (which is fine!). Just tasty and creamy. I think I’ll get away without leaving the rest of it here though, thankfully! She just really wants that Strawberry Oolong, so I’ll squirrel away a cup for myself, and leave the rest here…

Decided to be indulgent tonight, so made up eggnog tea. Delish, as always. Craving the second infusion like crazy right now… enough that I may just go down and make it. I’m nearly out of this one (again), but I think I’ll hold off restocking to give some other teas (e.g. Cantaloupe & Cream) a chance to be sipped down. This one always wins over CC for me, haha.

Ahhh, round 2 of this tea does not disappoint. Cake batter, eggnog, best vanilla tea ever… either way, it tastes like it’s absolutely loaded with calories, yet not a heavy tea… so perfect. The creamy green base really works SO well here. You may notice that I’ve now awarded this tea the coveted 100 points. A perfect score. Yes, it’s that good.

I’ve gotta try it with some rock sugar eventually, but I’m down to having 8 cups’ worth left (and I have to save some to let my mom try at Christmas!) I’ve gotta say – there are not many teas that I would be reluctant to sample out to people, but this tea is one of them! I’m dying to give my roomie a sample of it, and I feel super Scroogey because I want it all to myself…. bad bad selfish girl…

Felt like a treat this morning, so brewed this one up. Since I’ve just had a tea with strong vanilla flavouring, it’s not as tasty as usual, but I’m getting the flavour of the green base, which is still quite nice. This is really a tea to enjoy by itself to maximize flavour.

Mmmmmhhhhh delicious. I think I underleafed a bit today (forgot it was 2 tsp/8 oz, so only used a bit over a tbsp for 2 cups) but it was still pretty tasty. The re-steep did suffer a bit though, being a touch weak.

Whoops! I have not been very good about logging teas lately! This is a backlog from Wednesday (actually… I think all four teas I missed are from Wednesday…. I guess the boy is a bit of a distraction!)

Anyhow, made myself a giant mug of this to nearly finish it off in anticipation of the next 0.5 ounce headed my way shortly! I haven’t sipped down too many Butiki teas (Gui Fei and Strawberry Oolong are it, I think), but this one will be added to the list shortly! (Of course, I’ve restocked all three of those, so net progress is still zero, hahaha).

Uh, and as usual, this was delicious, as was the resteep. I lost track of what happened to the leaves after that, but usually I only do 2 or 3 anyhow.

Mmmmm, had a cup of this last night, and learned that although it gets a bit strong if oversteeped, it is still quite tasty! The downside is that you then only get one flavourful infusion :(

Eggnog oh eggnog! you make me happy… (backlog)
Yup, this does remind me quite a bit of eggnog. Creamy and sweet, with just a hint of egg tart. It goes surprisingly well with a green base. That was certainly unexpected!
Now, I’m not the biggest fan of greens in general, so I would have preffered to see a black or oolong base. However, I think that the flavour and base were paired exceptionally well, and so I can’t possibly begrudge the fact that this is a green.
Next time, I think I’ll have it with 1/2tsp of sugar (first infusion). It’s awesome without, but I added some sugar to the second one and oh my goodness that was incredible, albeit a bit weaker. I can only imagine how super tasty it’d be on the first!

I don’t know if this counts as a sipdown since i only received a sample from stacy yesterday and drank it today but since i added it to my cupboard, i’m totally calling sip down on this one lol

As mentioned, I picked this one up in my last order with stacy because I wanted to try it before comitting to it since I pretty much HATE eggnog. This morning, i was running late but this tea called out to me. So though i NEVER do it…i made myself a cup of tea to drink while i was making my travels mugs full of tea to take with me to work. It made me late. haha

you know what though? SO WORTH IT. I’m actually really sad that I only have the re-steep to look forward to when i get home. This is for sure going on my order when the rest of my favourites are back in stock with Stacy.
It’s like a vanilla, custard, eggnoggy cup full of delicious! Greens are not my preferred type of tea but this is masterful! I think i actually like this one better than a few of my favourites gasp

Really nice job Stacy!

Edit: resteep tonight wasn’t as delicious but still drinkable….the green was becoming more prevalent in the cup. Still good though!

Last tea of the evening as I’m having a pretty rough day today. I was good for the most part until my other half came home and made me talk about why i was upset lol. Good on him of course (and nothing to do with him) but now i’m all cried out and dehydrated. So after having some more water and some food, i wanted a comforting tea to end the night with. Something that would be enough to put a smile on my face without me having to venture into a new tea or find a sample to sip down. As i flipped through my cupboard it was this one that first caught my eye – likely since i try to stay away from blacks this late in the evening, even if the caffeine doesn’t affect me.

So now i’m sipping on this creamy cup of happy. I enjoy that even though this is sweet and creamy, i can still taste the green base in the tea. I’m also chuckling a little at Ysaurella who also had a cup of this tonight who doesn’t enjoy this as much as i do. Perfectly alright of course, but just a reminder of how different things work for different people. :)

oh man soooo tired today. I think i’m going to be gulping down even more tea and possibly a coffee if this keeps up. I can’t seem to get going today and the day is nearly half over! I’m glad to be having some of this today since i have 2 packages of this in my cupboard. It’s for sure a tea that I can see drinking throughout the year as it’s not really “eggnog” to me, rather it’s just a delicious creamy tea. It’s a lighter tea as well, as is cantaloupe and cream but still a delicious “desserty” tea that I can get behind.

I think this might be one of the first flavoured teas that I have craved after tasting it. Don’t get me wrong, i love my flavoured teas and really look forward to drinking a lot of them. But this one? I had a small sample of it from Stacy and then spent the next 10 days that it took for an actual order to get to me…waiting for it. I got my package yesterday with my very first gaiwan from stacy and so i was SUPER excited to be able to have some of this today. It hasn’t diminished since i had my sample. I am still loving this creamy delicious tea! so happy to have this in my cupboard.

backlog from earlier today – still a delicious creamy tea that’s perfect for those days when i just want something delicious to accompany my black morning tea!

mmmm had a delicious cup of this in the morning as well. I’m not actively trying to sip this one down but it would be nice to get to one bag lol. I have 2 at the moment and my cupboard is half butiki heh

I think my taste buds are a little “off” today. I really hope that this is a temporary thing. I need my sipdowns! lol but clearly i don’t want to drink tea if it’s going to taste icky, especially if it’s a new tea.

This one tastes a bit weird but nothing that makes me want to spit it out or anything. I know that’s me though, so no worries heh.

having a tasty travel mug of this while i contemplate which teas to drink in the afternoon. I have a bunch of back to back meetings, so i usually refill my travel mugs and bring both to my meetings. I get funny looks but hey it means tea all afternoon! :)

mmmm mini sipdown! as in 1 bag down, 1 to go lol. Doesn’t really count but i’m enjoying this and it’s one less bag in my cupboard so i’m going with it. see previous notes but this still remains delicious and wonderful.

Tea of the afternoon here….

My package arrived from Butiki and I couldn’t want to try this! I haven’t had eggnog in ages.

I steeped this according to instructions and it is better than I was hoping. The aroma is very authentic. After tasting I went to go add a wee bit of turbinado sugar and I bet this would also be really good with soymilk. I’m getting the nutmeg, vanilla and the creaminess, even a bit of the booziness.

Ah Stacy, you have created a real winner here, this is delicious. A wonderful treat with a fraction of calories of a real eggnog (and much healthier, I imagine). I think this will be gone rather quickly. ;-)

I keep finding myself writing about the last tea I drank while drinking a new one.

I was trying to resist this tea but I just couldn’t. I don’t like egg nog unless a) it’s filled with alcohol so you can forget the fact that it’s eggs and cream because just in case it’s filled with salmonella, you’ve now got enough alcohol in your system to possibly not be worried or b) it contains no egg or cream like so Delicious’s amazing coconut milk one.

So this tea is already up there in awesomeness, because it is another option and much, much lighter. That’s not to say though that it isn’t filled with flavor. Because it is, it’s so custardy and rich, and amazing. Definitely tastes like eggnog! I’m glad it’s not too spiced because I’ve never been a fan of heavily spiced eggnog.

The base tea is buttery and blends together with the eggnog flavors so well. I was intrigued when Stacy first mentioned on Facebook that it was going to have a green tea base. Honestly I have no idea what would really work with eggnog flavor in a tea but who even cares, this works as it is!

I need to try sweetening it next time. I also tried a second steep but did not enjoy it as much as the first.

I meant to take this one with me to Tennessee for Christmas but I completely forgot it. I’ve been thinking about it since then especially because I thought maybe there might be coconut milk nog still at the grocery store…nope :(

The first steep kind of got ruined by me eating super spicy salsa right before making this tea but I couldn’t resist. I added agave to this cup and it became really vanilla tasting.

So I had to make a second steep! But I don’t think it worked at all because it tastes like hot water. Well crap. I’m sorry for not doing you justice today, Creamy Eggnog.

I’m actually unable to drink eggnog. I’m allergic to an enzyme in many dairy products and eggnog is painful for me. I drink the Silk version, but it’s not the same.

So when I saw this at Butiki, and it was on sale, I had to get it!

This has to be one of the best Christmas-type teas ever. It’s so creamy, but not heavy. It’s eggnog-y with a hint a spice (this may be power of suggestion). The flavor is pretty light, which is my only complaint. I bet this would be amazing iced, but there is no way my limited supply will make it to spring so I can try it iced! :)

I wish this could be year round, or part of the permanent Christmas-time collection! (hint hint, nudge nudge) :)

Full review on the 19th here http://sororiteasisters.com/
For now the snippits:

There is such a sweet and subtle spice in this tea but the vanilla cuts it so that it does not come off on the palate as a spiced tea at all. I get just a hint of a note of nutmeg in the cup. The tea sits somewhat heavily on the palate and the mouthful is very creamy indeed. So unexpected from such a light colored tea, which is a clear, and pale, sunny yellow.

I tell you, this tea is screaming to be created into a latte with some frothed milk or milk substitute sitting on top! Add a little nutmeg or cinnamon – sinful … I’m going to go do that right now!

This is not actually in the review on SororiTea sisters but Steepsters – GET SOME it is SO SO SO Good!

I steeped it for 4 minutes and use the correct amount of leaves, the correct water temperature but I think this tea is probably not for me.
I am feeling a little alone here as the ratings are so high and I unfortunately didn’t get much of the flavour as I was expecting. The tea base itself was a little bit weak to me.
I’m not going to rate it now and will of course give another try during the next days – this should be something wrong with me tonight.

Ok, I retried Creamy Eggnog with a smaller mug, a larger amount of dry leaves and this is a little better to me.
I had a much more present flavour but not what I was expecting.
The funniest with this tea is it was difficult to catch the dry leaves with my teaspoon as if it didn’t want to be drank by me :D
So we may be incompatible :)

The flavour was still too subtle and the green tea base too light for my taste.
But this is my taste, I know a lot of people like this tea for what it is.
Every ingredient is of perfect quality, it is just not a tea for me.

I decided to rate it because, even if my opinion doesn’t reflect the majority, it may be useful for other people.
When I did my Butiki Order I was hesitating between a lot of teas (this tea brand is really fantastic, it’s just like being in a bakery hesitating between a Religieuse or a St Honoré – writing this a big welcome to the new Pope – we love religious names for our pastries in France!)
I choose this one because all the ratings, but absolutely all the ratings were very very high.
So it may be good to have different opinions sometimes, that’s why I give you mine.

An high quality tea but not unfortunately for my palate.

I really don’t know why I waited so long to try this one. I can’t say I am an Eggnog Guru but I do know what I like and THIS is lovely! Of course I like it BETTER than Eggnog!!!! It smells FAB. Soooo creamy and light and fresh and festive. It’s sweet like brown sugar but creamy like heavy cream – but VEGAN style! Woot!!!! This may be the 8th wonder of the world right here! It’s amazing!

Oh! I’m getting really excited about Christmas and all of the yummy holiday treats. I’m not usually a big eggnog drinker because it’s so rich, but I will have a few sips. Being a huge lover of creamy teas, this one sounded like a dream.

This tea is buttery, silky and relatively mild. The flavoring and tea blend so well together and I’m happy to say that I don’t taste any sharp vegetal notes. This one is all about that wonderful eggnog creaminess. I love that there is no nutmeg or spice as I don’t really like either. FINALLY a holiday tea without the distraction of those darn spices! This is a fantastic winter delight!

Tastes and smells like eggnog to me! The egg custard note comes out near the end. The tangy creamy body is heavily tinged in vanilla. Again, it’s hard to believe there are no dairy ingredients in this. The only thing I might be missing are spices (LiberTEAS has a good suggestion for nutmeg), and possibly some thickness(lowfat eggnog).

My pot tonight is on the diluted side compared to the cup I had last night, where I was able to notice the well paired smooth green base, but it’s still good and eggy.

Thank you, BoxerMama; I really wanted to try this! It helps contain my eggnog cravings without making me feel ill from drinking the real McCoy.. apparently the real McCoy is actually MacKay, which is just confusing and defeats the meaning, but..err, you know, THIS TEA IS GOOD! I’ve had an awkward day.

1.5 tablespoons for 375 ml

Light eggnog flavour on the sip. Strong creamy taste and distinct eggnog sweetness near the end of the sip. Oceanic qualities of the green tea detectable but very well blended. The flavours are balanced in a way that they complement each other. Very well captured eggnog flavour on the aftertaste. Milky-type flavour comes out as the tea cools.

Autumn Hearth

Mmmm! Wasn’t sure what to drink this evening, I’ve spend the whole day drinking summer tieguanyin and have exhausted the leaves or perhaps my tastebuds. Lasagna doesn’t go well with any tea so I had to brush my teeth and once I got the mint flavor in my mouth I have a craving for eggnog! No long gongfu session required, I can just curl up with a mug or two.

I could tell just from opening the package this would be delicious. And it is seriously spot on, minus the thickness, but it is certainly creamy. In fact I think I prefer this to the real thing, always made me a bit squeemish even though every year I find I do love the taste. I also don’t think I could drink eggnog warm but I love the warm in this!

I’ll probably still have the custard-nog once a year and brew this up the rest of the season. Oh and I love that Stacy’s blends reinfuse so well, this second mug is just as good if not better than the first. Well done!

What a rotten day! I’m just getting over a cold and work was terrible. hubby is cranky, which he emanates crankiness. Even while we picked out a christmas tree he STILL acted cranky. I was incredibly happy to receive ALL my butiki teas today.
I sent him out for sushi with his friends, not my daughter and I are waiting for the tree to warm up and relax while enjoying for Creamy Eggnog Tea. I’ve had two cups and it is just what the doctor ordered!
It does taste like vanilla cake batter! The green base hops through in the aftertaste. Very yummy!

Can this please exist forever? I don’t even know what I’m smelling and tasting but it’s buttery and creamy and I’m the weirdo over in the corner cubicle alternating between having her nose stuck in a bag of loose tea and a mug glued to her hand in front of her face while creepily inhaling deeply, eyes closed.

If I didn’t trust Butiki Teas I would assume there’s crack in here. It’s. Just. So. Good. I just ordered more because I’m afraid it might vanish forever….but Creamy Eggnog, I can’t quit you!!!

Nom.

I’ve been trying to make my all time Butiki faves (this and Maple Pecan Oolong) last, which I guess is the opposite of what I should be doing with them, but anyhow. I made some of this at work and it’s just perfect, exactly what I wanted. I’m pretty sure the water was too hot but it didn’t even matter. This is so good. It might also be my favourite SMELLING tea. If there’s any tea I’m going to get caught by a coworker inhaling repeatedly like a huge weirdo, this would be it. I hope it wasn’t just a Christmas tea because this is definitely a ‘keep on hand at all times’ tea for me!!

I don’t care that it’s almost summer – I am SO so happy I picked up this tea. Oh yes.
It’s going to make an amazing iced tea, I just know it!
I’m drinking my Butiki like crazy – at least once a day, but once work slows down (will it ever slow down?) I want to take pictures and make proper blog posts – just revel in the amazing quality that is Butiki. I haven’t been this excited about tea since I first discovered DavidsTea 2 years ago! That’s saying a lot :)

This smells so good that I practically put my whole face into it (my pail-sized work mug allows for this). Then I got too excited and burned my tongue. Aw man. I hope this is worth it.

And it soo is! It’s got that perfect balance between the base tea and flavoring that Butiki is so good at, and it’s surprisingly light-feeling for an eggnog-flavored tea. But you still get that eggy creaminess at the end of the sip. The spice level is very mild, so to me it tastes more like vanilla custard with just a pinch of spice on top. Which totally works because it means I can drink this year-round (and I will). Yummm.

Oh man, this tea is super yummy! It’s totally not eggnog season right now, but I was saving to try this tea for the perfect day, and I totally regret not trying it sooner!

The eggnog flavor is perfect, I like it more than my non-dairy options for eggnog. I wanna try steeping it with a cinnamon stick sometime as I do like a spicy eggnog.
