From Butiki Teas

Caramel Vanilla Assam pairs our Premium Taiwanese Assam with rich caramel and soft vanilla. The caramel and vanilla notes meld with the tea and almost taste as though they are naturally part of the Assam. Cacao, raisin, and citrus notes can also be detected in this smooth and malty tea. Add a little sugar for a decadent caramel vanilla dessert.

Ingredients: Premium Taiwanese Assam, Organic Calendula, Organic Lotus Stamens, Organic Pure Ground Vanilla Beans (no fillers), Organic Natural Flavoring (vegan)

Recommended Brew Time: 3 minutes
Recommended Amount: 2 teaspoons of tea for 8oz of water
Recommended Temperature: 212 F (boiling)

Caramel is my favourite flavour, and I have tried lots of caramel tea, in search of the perfect flavoured black cup. I think I always knew from the reviews, this was the tea for me.

I could drink this every single day. The black base is there – this is tea! – but it so smooth and there is no bitterness. Creamy caramel and soft vanilla. It smells wonderful and tastes even better. As usual, added a bit of rock sugar and 1/2 and 1/2 cream. I have 2oz but hope I can reorder so that I can continue to enjoy this tea a little bit longer.

Woo! Upping my rating for this massively. I am so glad I ordered an ounce of this before it ran out. My first sample was definitely ruined, because this one is way better. It is absolutely delicious. Bold Assam with caramel and vanilla flavours melding together beautifully. Yummy. So so happy I ordered more of this.

I got this as a sample from the lovely Courtney ages ago and I’m just getting around to it now. Sorry, Courtney!

Steeped, this has a lovely orange color that’s really reminding me of fall. I don’t get caramel or vanilla in the initial sip, but this tea has an excellent sweet/creamy aftertaste that just lingers. Mmmmmm.

Haven’t been in the tea world for super long….but Butiki’s teas have been some of the best I’ve tried. As the rest of you, I’m pretty sad over Stacy closing shop. But it seemed like Butiki had a good run, even if it wasn’t the longest. Wish I had gotten into the tea world sooner so I’d have had more time trying her teas! But I’m glad I could order more before it’s all gone.
This and Maple Pecan Oolong are probably some of my favorite teas of all time. Glad I could stock up!
Also, wasn’t able to drink much tea yesterday for my birthday. So I’m drinking more today instead! :P
Anyway-this is an awesome tea, and totally love it still.
Thank you, Stacy for giving the tea community so many amazing years of awesome teas! Glad I entered the tea world just in time to try them before you decided to close it up. Wish you the best of luck on your next adventure! (:

I love this tea.

This is a terrific, smooth Assam with a buttery caramel and vanilla flavor. The rich caramel predominates but is NOT too sweet. It is a beautifully balanced tea. Even though this is a black tea, there were no sharp edges; just a nice rich Assam. Even the aroma of the tea when I first got it was overwhelming; I could not wait to brew a cup.

Yay, one of my samples from Butiki! I’ve been looking at this tea since I found their website, and I’m way excited to try it. :D I have to say this is the most beautiful tea I’ve seen thus far. The leaves are so dramatic – crazy long and twisty and spindly like the roots of some ancient tree. And they’re pretty much pitch black which makes them all the more gorgeous. There are a few cream-colored dry flower petals in here as well, as a nice contrast and accent to the leaves. The smell is not what I expected: I get a lot of yogurt scent for some reason. Maybe I’m crazy, heh. But it’s definitely vanilla yogurt with some caramelly drizzle on top. I’m glad the sample is meant for one serving because I can imagine this tea being a pain in the butt to measure. :P

The leaves get so huge when this steeps! It reminds me of steeping oolong in terms of how much it expands in the water. Amazing! This aroma is much more what I would expect from this tea. I can smell caramel and vanilla goodness mixed with a lot of raisin and little bit of yogurt (?!). Drinking this is like eating raisins! Which is fine with me because I happen to love raisins. So raisin is definitely the most prominent taste for me, with a little hint of cocoa. I didn’t seem to get much caramel or vanilla at first, so I added a tiny bit of sugar to the second half of the cup and they came out immediately. Yum yum yum. I don’t have any experience with Taiwanese assams so I think I would have to try a plain one to really be able to pick up on the flavoring in this tea. I suspect it blends so well with the base that I can’t pick it out individually, which is a good thing!

For some reason, this tea has a very tart or sour aftertaste for me… Anyone else experience that?

That sounds like a very intriguing tea.

mj

Yeah, I tasted that sourness afterwards too. I didn’t like it because of that.

Cameron B.

mj, I’m glad it’s not just me! :P That part was odd but I loved the rest.

apt

the raisins are because this tea uses a taiwanese assam as a base. taiwanese black teas are known for having delicious raisin notes.

Cameron B.

apt, I’ll have to try the plain Taiwanese assams that Butiki has then. :)

apt

I also dug the wild black.

Samples-Only Small TTB

So I got this tea box today. Wow, it’s got a lot of tea in it. I did a first go through of the box, and piled up a selection of teas I’m interested in trying. And then I had to try a tea, of course, and I decided to start with this one.

I’m glad I did.

Wow.

Most of you might know that I’m not much of a black tea drinker. Probably because I haven’t found the right black teas to try. This is one I’m glad I’ve tried. It makes me want to try more of assam teas.

It’s nice and malty. I like that. And the caramel and vanilla are really well balanced with this tea. They taste like they’re part of the tea and not added flavors. It’s amazing.

(I’ve had it before, but I’m really glad I had it again. And I’m keeping the rest of this sample. Sorry, kiddos. This one is mine. Oh, and next time I place a Butiki Teas order, this one will be in it.)

Ost

I got some of this in my Butiki order! Oh my word, so stoked to try! :D

Cameron B.

Ost, it’s very tasty. I felt the same way about the flavor feeling like it’s a part of the tea itself. :D

Ost

Ahh that makes me even more excited, Cameron B.!

Cheri

It really does feel like it’s part of the tea and not something added on top of the tea, like a lot of blends taste like. (Not that that is a bad thing, either, but this is really artfully blended and balanced.) I look forward to seeing your review, Ost.

TeaTiff

Cheri if you like this flavored black you should also try the base tea. I believe it is the Premium Taiwanese Assam. It is also one of my many favorites.

Cheri

Yeah, I might ask for that as the sample on my next Butiki order.

madametj

A lot of companies don’t think TTBs are worth it for them, so I’m encouraging everyone to leave a note to seller whenever you buy something that you tried in a TTB so that they know the impact!

I’ve been absent for a while. I’ll admit a new obsession is currently occupying my time – gardening! I still drink tea everyday, but it’s generally the same stuff. I’m still trying to drink through my stash. It has, sadly, not diminished much. I can’t believe how much tea I have. Despite that, I recently ordered Peppermint Patty and Peach Hoppitea from Butiki. I justify this by explaining that I am quite low on non-caffeinated teas. :) I requested this tea as a sample since it sounded so delicious.

It smelled sweet and decadent. I worried that I shouldn’t be drinking it. Of course it’s really just tea and has nothing bad in it, so I sipped away. It was such a well blended tea. The tea itself was really allowed to shine through. It was strong and just a bit astringent. I may have left the leaves in a bit long. The caramel provided a lovely sweetness and the vanilla propelled it into dessert status, no sugar needed. :) Too bad it was only a sample! I’ll probably buy this next time I have a good excuse to order.

Welcome back :-)

Terri HarpLady

I’ve been having gardening withdrawals all week! I had too much to do, & the only thing I got to do outside was pick yummy veggies.
I love my garden, & this time of year I just want everyone to leave me alone out there, with no responsibilities, just to crawl around in my mindful earth, planting, sniffing, picking, trellising, creating weird little macrame hammocks for big fat tomatoes, etc.
Then there is life…so many things to do!
:D

Mercuryhime

I’ve only got a small garden bed this year. It took many many years to convince the powers that be to let me have one. I feel like the soil needs a lot of improvement. The things I have growing in there don’t seem to be doing well despite all the work I put in. :( I’m trying to avoid fertilizer but I might go out and get some organic stuff to put in. I’ll improve the soil over time. I’m going to try cover cropping in the fall. :D

Terri HarpLady

When I started my garden, it was solid clay. I’ve been adding compost, straw, newspaper, cardboard, leaf mulch, etc for years.

Mercuryhime

I have some wood chips to use as mulch. I was waiting for the plants to get taller before adding them in or I’d just end up burying them. Trouble is, the plants aren’t really getting taller. :\ I’m also participating in a sort of communal compost bin. I was hoping to do some hot composting, but it looks like everyone else wants to do cold composting. You gotta work with what you have! Hopefully I’ll be able to buy a house with a nice sunny yard soon! Then I’ll be able to do whatever I want to my garden. :)

Terri HarpLady

That’s the spirit! We do what we can. I have friends in a part of town where the ground is known to be polluted, so they do all of their gardening in large containers. They even add worms to them!

So we meet again Caramel Vanilla Assam. I found this in the Tea and Cards TTB, and my first thought was “You! You’re coming with me! We’re going to figure this out once and for all!” Last time I had this, it was a sample and I was very disappointed, but it has such great reviews…I knew it was me.

Even in the aroma, I can tell it will be different this time. There is lovely caramel notes floating around and I’m already super pumped. Taste wise, the caramel is much more prominent than the vanilla and I LOVE that I can fully taste the base. This is a success! Nooow I get iiiiiitttt haha :) Very very yummy!

Glad it was better for you this time around!

Generous sample from Teatiff – thank you.
i have Premium Taiwanese Assam and I love it. this tea I always wanted to try. it has PTA base which shines thru vanilla caramel toffee flavoring. Nothing overdone, just right. perfection in a cup. No sugar for me, but i can see that some could really accent and round the flavors. As cools i picked some dried cherry and bread notes which are probably come thru Assam. Zero astringency or bitterness. Goes on my shopping list.

Resteep was very good, PTA minus vanilla caramel

Definitely my favorite vanilla tea, & although I don’t sweeten teas often, this one sometimes gets a little maple syrup or stevia :)

boychik
