From Butiki Teas

Hello Sweetie is a custom blend that we created for our customer, James. What initially started out as a coconut cream pie flavor with a puerh base tea turned into a banana, coconut, praline (nuts), and toffee flavor with our Premium Taiwanese Assam base tea. How did that happen? We are not entirely sure but this delicious combination has a creamy coconut and fresh banana flavor while also presenting a delicious praline flavor that adds a cookie quality to the tea. The toffee adds a buttery texture, while the base tea provides sweet cacao and caramel notes. If you love high quality teas with complex flavors and Doctor Who references then this tea is for you! We recommend adding a little sugar to transform this tea into an exquisite tropical cookie.

Ingredients: Premium Taiwanese Assam, Organic Coconut Flakes, Organic Calendula, Organic Natural Flavoring (vegan)

Recommended Brew Time: 3 minutes
Recommended Amount: 2 teaspoons of tea for 8oz of water
Recommended Temperature: 212 F (boiling)

Everyone always says that coconut goes bad easily…but none of my coconut teas have gone bad yet. But figured I’d start drinking my coconut teas more just in case!
And this one is just as good as ever! Going to miss this one when It’s gone D:

I need to get some of that…f

Fresh coconut goes bad fast. Dried is fine :)

Ohh that’s good to know! Thanks for the heads up!

Method: 2 tsp, 8 oz, 212 degrees, 3 minutes, French Press

Dry Leaf Aroma: Nuts and coconut

Flavor: This had a light sweetness on its own, but was better with a little rock sugar. The tea was very smooth and I didn’t find bitterness or astringency. I enjoyed the flavors. It tastes kind of like a cookie! I would like to try it again with a little almond/coconut milk, because that seems like the perfect combo. I can see why this one is so popular. It’s deelish! I wish I could have tasted more coconut, though. Still, I was very happy. :)

Now I understand. I can glimpse Stacy’s artistry and talent in weaving flavors not on top of, but within a fine base tea. It’s all there. The toffee, the banana, the coconut, and the Assam are all present, in a soft undulating experience that allows for interplay between all of the actors.

I have been hesitant to try flavored blends. My previous experience with grocery store flavored teas that left an artificial perfumed taste in my mouth had me convinced that I wouldn’t like flavored blends. Then there was the name of this tea, even though it is a Dr Who play on words, it made me think that this would be too sweet, too cloying for me. How wrong I was. Thank you Stephanie for including this in my sample pack. It was the perfect Butiki sample for me to start with. It abolished all of my errant prejudices regarding flavored teas. uh-oh more teas to stock now. :) And this one is #1 on my list of flavored blends to stock.

So glad you liked it! I bet you will enjoy the other Butiki flavored teas as well :)

Flavoured tea is not flavoured tea unless it’s Butiki ;-)

I wasn’t sure what I was going to think about this is. I’m not the biggest fan of coconut flavors. I am happy to say I now understand why so many people LOVE this tea. It’s delicious. It was the perfect morning treat before my run. It tasted a bit like an almond joy or mounds. I can definitely see myself ordering this on my next Butiki order!

Wow, I read that as, “It was the perfect morning treat before my RUM

I did a double-take on that one!

How is the banana flavor in this one? I really like actual bananas but I can’t stand fake banana flavor (like any banana candy). I’ve been curious about this one but hesitant because of the banana component.

lolainred

Sarsonator, hahahaha… well now that would be awkward!

mj, I actually didn’t notice the banana at all, but there weren’t any banana pieces in the sample I had, so that might changed the flavor. The Foxy Roxy Banana Walnut one has pieces of banana in it and that one is very authentic banana, but I don’t know about this one.

Virginia

mj there’s a one cup sample in the box I’m sending :)

You rock, Virginia!

Yes, the hype is true! This tea is absolutely fabulous! And I have 2 oz. all to myself! Woo!! This has to be one of the best teas I’ve had from Butiki, and it has that amazing natural taste and smooth texture that is definitely characteristic of Butiki! The banana, coconut, and natural sweetness makes this a perfect mid-morning or afternoon tea. It’s such a treat! Definitely a winner!

Stephanie

Yup, one of the bestest ever!

Yuuuum! What a delight this tea is. As soon as I opened the package I knew I was going to love it. It has sweet, coconut-vanilla-pastry aroma with a hint of almond, honey and is can almost say some citrus. When brewed, it fills your senses with delicious coconut cookie experience. Quite flavorful with out sugar, but I added a teaspoon for that sweet desert taste. On the second brew the coconut notes are not as strong and more of almond, honey, toffee come out. Still sweet, still delicious. I will definitely order more with my next perchance.

Another sample from Butiki! Sadly, I haven’t immersed myself in Doctor Who yet (too many other things I’m a fan of) but SOMEONE sure is staying with Doctor Who since it has been on for so long. The base is the lovely Premium Taiwanese Assam that is a unique creation just in the tea leaf itself. This blend has additional banana and coconut. I just had the Foxy’s Banana Walnut the other day and I’d say that one has the same amount of banana as this one. It’s a light banana but it’s REAL banana. The coconut is front and center and it’s one of the best coconut teas I’ve tried. I’d say it does taste more like a coconut cream pie, only because I don’t really taste any of the praline/toffee… maybe a banana/coconut pie. I’ve been craving a banana cream pie lately! For some reason the base didn’t taste as strong as I remember, or maybe it’s the additional flavors of the caramel vanilla that make the base so nice. Butiki does it again!

Sipdown (169/175)!

My sipdown number is sorely outdated because I’ve been a bad tea logger this week. Trust me, it’s a fair bit lower than 169 even if my cupboard doesn’t reflect that, yet. It will though once I crank out this backlog.

This was in a timolino for work, and I don’t know if it was because it was in a timolino but I actually though it was significantly less impressive the second time around than it had been the first. Something about a combination of too much astringency/bitterness and pralines. Not that it was bad; far from it, really. Just less… “Sparkley”.

So for the time being I think I’ve decided against adding it to my Butiki order which is starting to feel quite large and unmanageable. I know I can get this again if I change my mind and many other people have fallen in love with it so there’s high potential to swap for smaller sizes if I feel like it.

Still; once again thanks to 221tea for the sample because trying this one meant a lot to me even if I’m deciding not to order it just now!

Christina / BooksandTea

How exactly does this sipdown numbering system work? I’ve never been able to figure it out in context.

Cameron B.

I would like to know also – I have no idea what this sipdown thing entails! :P

VariaTEA

People note a sipdown when they remove a tea from their cupboard, usually by drinking the last of it. Roswell Strange has two numbers for her sipdowns – the first being the number of teas in her cupboard and the second is the number of teas + teaware in her cupboard. Hope that helps :)

Cameron B.

Wow, that’s what I figured but I wanted to make sure I wasn’t misunderstanding because 150-200 seemed like a lot of different teas to have! Thanks VariaTEA for clarifying for us.

VariaTEA

No problem. And it is a lot of tea to have but being on steepster, cupboards tend to grow pretty rapidly :P

OMGsrsly

Cupboards just keep expanding, even when you say “OMG! NO MORE TEA!” something will tempt you, or if you’ve been swapping a surprise package will show up. Actually, maybe I should change my steepster name to “OMG no more tea”. ;)

Cameron B.

I can see I’m in for a good time here. :P

Roswell Strange

Thank you VariaTEA for clarifying my system on my behalf :)

I’ve been trying to be good for the past couple months and use up some of my teas before buying more, but I finally cracked – plus my boyfriend has been nagging me to order more Rootbeer Honeybush, and of course I couldn’t just order one type of tea from Butiki! So I just picked up the package today and it’s been raining steadily. Perfect timing.

First thing I did upon opening the package was smell all of them in an attempt to decide which to try first. They all smelled amazing, of course, but something about the surprisingly fruity coconut scent of Hello Sweetie called to me.

This tea is super smooth and dessert-y without being overly sweet. It really does remind me of a loaf of coconut banana bread. I feel like the flavours don’t really stick out from one another – they all sort of blend into one. Which is not a bad thing. All in all I’d say this tea is just very pleasant. Definitely a keeper! Thanks Stacy :)

I really like this stuff. It kind of reminds me of coconut cream pie, including a nice buttery crust effect, it really is remarkable.

I can’t wait to get back to it but I want to try at least one carefully prepared cup of all the new teas I bought. In the mornings i can get sort of sloppy and impatient for my caffeine, and it seems unfair to judge a product when I’m not doing my part to follow correct procedure.
