Vanilla Creme Earl Grey

Once again, California Tea House delivers on amazing flavor!

Oh how I love this tea!

First off, there is a wonderful vanilla floral smell when I opened the bag. I am only sad to say it’s a sample bag & not the biggest bag humanly possible…well, for now anyway. But there is that wonderful aroma of delicious vanilla & something floral behind it. I thought it might be lavendar, but according to the ingredients it’s sunflower. Either way, it’s inviting.

It offers a promise of amazing flavor & once again, California Tea House delivers!

I made this today at work, which means I have to use a tea filter bag. No problem. I filled the filter bag generously with this wonderful smelling tea. As always my coworkers are complimenting me on the smell I am sharing with them. And it does give off a wonderful smell as it’s brewing.

And then there is that first sip…oh…so warm & so yummy! It’s offering me a wonderful experience this morning & a great way to greet the start of another crazy work week. Oh yes, this is a great way to start a crazy week.

So yes, I am rating this a perfect 100.
The smell before brewing is wonderfully vanilla with the floral hint behind it.
The smell during brewing is enough to invite others around you to want it.
The taste is perfect! The vanilla is definitely creamy & soft & not too overbearing. The Earl Grey is delightfully wonderful! And that floral note plays well with the vanilla & Earl Grey.

Overall, I am going to have to order more of this tea. It was perfect!

Just jotting down some quick impressions:

Scent: Lemony with a strange herbal twinge—like rosemary? A bit creamy.

Taste: Oh the vanilla really comes out in the taste! And I’m detecting the wonderful bergamot oil swirled in—it’s almost like an Earl Grey dreamsicle.

Final Thought: This is an ethereal, sweeter version of Adagio’s Earl Grey Moonlight. It’s not syrupy or caramel in flavor like Moonlight. The sweetness is clearer and more pure, somehow. The vanilla is a “cool” vanilla and the bergamot is more citrusy than flowery.

I am not usually a fan of earl grey, so I approached this one with trepidation. I steeped no longer than four minutes and yanked out the bag. I am no fan of bergamot, although we are working on our relationship. ;)

This is decent as a vanilla tea. First sip I taste lots of vanilla (yay) and then a little of the bergamot. It’s faint, just a subtle twist. I don’t care for the smell as much; to me the bergamot makes it smell like cleaning supplies. To me this is a vanilla tea with an earl grey twist, not the other way around.

I like this, but I don’t think I’d purchase again. However, I may be tempted to try a “real” earl grey… got any suggestions?

Wow. I was expecting something more from this tea. I wanted Earl grey. I wanted vanilla. I wanted Creme. I thought I was cheated on all 3 parts of that name. The bergamot was lacking and was too mellow…and the vanilla was almost non existent. Where did the Creme go?

Last year, I tried an Earl Grey Creme by Art of Tea that has left an indelible positive impression, and I’ve been searching for its equal ever since. Perhaps it’s better in my memory than in truth (I’ve ordered some to find out), but upon opening this Vanilla Creme Earl Grey, the fragrance alone was a let down. The Earl Grey base wasn’t as complex as I prefer; I enjoy being able to identify each ingredient—the base tea, the bergamot, the flower petals, the vanilla—while savoring how well they marry, and this one was, um, muddy?

My first cup was steeped a little long, to be honest, so it was more tannic than creamy. So, I tried again the next day. And it’s a decent tea. But I wouldn’t drink it for the decadence I want from a creme tea, and I wouldn’t choose it as an Earl Grey. Other teahouses offer better Earls. Other teahouses offer better cremes. The descriptions on the California Teahouse website are so personable and fun that I wanted to love this tea, but it just didn’t happen for me.

I received this as a sample with my recent order. Thank You California Tea House. I thought it was quite good and creamy. I did not enjoy the vanilla as much as I normally would a bergamot but it was very enjoyable none the less.

I originally purchased a bag of this about a year and a half ago and just got another bag. I am glad that the tea is still pretty good. This tea is more vanilla than earl grey, and it is fairly sweet, and not super astringent. If you add some milk and sugar this tea turns out to really good.
