canton chai

Black Chai Blend by Canton Tea Co

This hand-blended Chai will dance on your tongue and deliver a sensational warming kick. This is our own house blend of Organic Assam and a delicious mix of fresh, aromatic organic herbs and spices.

The blend includes Assam with green cardamon, cassia bark, ginger, orange peel, cloves, and green pepper corns. It has been finely tuned to create a perfect balance of spiced tea. Add a little milk and sweeten with sugar or honey if desired for a deeply comforting and astonishingly moreish brew.

This is my very first tea from canton tea company so the expectations are pretty high!

When i open the package my nose is getting happy with the good spicy smells coming out off the ziplock bag. The spices are very large pieces and thats great to view, never had pieces off spice that where so large like in this blend. The base off this cha is assam, witch i like because i like full body assam tea’s!

So after all this i’m getting ready to brew this in my small gong fu teapot. One teaspoon off chai is going in for 3min with boiling water! In total i’m going to make 2 cups from these leaves like i usually do with black tea’s.

The color off the brew turns out to be a very dark golden brown, it looks and smells good just like the dry leaves used to be. I’m not going to use milk or honey like recommended on the package. So after cooling down a bit i’m finally going to taste it.

On my first sip i can really notice the little balls off green pepper that are in the blend. If i’m correct this blend is lacking cinnamon its a bit weird for me because my last blends used to be cinnamon heavy. The assam is giving this blend a remarkable strong background for the pepper and all the other spices!

The last chai i consumed was from Jing tea and was cinnamon and ginger heavy with a softer background. This chai from canton is the opposite strong and peppery. I’m going to give both chai’s the same amount off points because they are both totally different!

I have to come back to this one again. Normally spoken i never make a third black tea steep, but the second cup was still very strong in spicy flavors that i could not resist experimenting with a third cup!

And you bet it was still very good less assam flavors but more smooth spices coming true. I did not expect this but when it cooled down the spice flavors where deep and rich not sharp and bolt. Probably even could do a weaker 4th cup but i had to go to bed…

Great tea and because i can steep this chai (for my personal taste) one time more then the jing chai its getting a few more points!

My second cup off the same leafs is brewed for 5min. The taste is less peppery, you can taste the assam base better but its still very spicy!

Great second steep and a bit different in taste then the first, so once again i’m enjoying this tea. When i’m going to brew this again in a few days i’m gonna try adding a bit milk and honey. Normally not my thing but because they recommend that its a very warming drink with it added i just have to test that out to!
