Mean Green Tangerine

Green Tea by Caraway Tea Company

Sweet and warming citrus aroma, with a clean and softly juicy flavor. A playful combination of Pan fired sencha tea with marigolds, safflowers, orange peel, and tangerine orange flavor.

oh dear god it really is Pledge in tea form.

I guess I’ll add something else despite the fact I tried two sips, dumped it, and am contemplating just throwing away the bag because I find it hard to believe I’ll be able to find it a home. It seems like it might be good if you love citrus. And then the wave of artificial flavoring rolls over your tongue and triggers your gag reflex.

So yeah.
If in the end it turns out I got just the teapot for $25, that would be fine with me. I’m now scared to try the other teas I bought.

This sample was sent to me by Anny Oxidant and the Tea Bullie – thank you!

Hmm, the reviews here are not too favorable so far. :-P

I steeped mine at around 180F for 3 minutes. I am finding that the flavor is pretty high up on the tangerine. I’m not quite getting the “Pledge” flavor that others have described but maybe I’m used to lemon pledge? :)

I’m finding it a little bit bitter and a little bit reminiscent of Tang. I definitely don’t love it, but I don’t hate it as much as the other reviewers. Might even finish the cup!

This is a sample from Anny Oxidant & the Tea Bullie, thanks for sharing! Miss Anny was rather nice and sent me a surprise package of tea. Very considerate lady.

So this tea is not my cuppa. I like that word cuppa. I’ve been waiting to use it for a while now. The tea has a strong seaweed flavor which is some thing I don’t enjoy right now. At first I thought a vague citrus was teasing me but I do get tangerine in the aftertaste. The biggest problem is this was really bitter.

I don’t feel I used too much leaf. In fact, it looked like less leaf than I generally pile into my Ingenuitea. I brewed at a lower temperature and for less time than the instructions called for so perhaps that contributed to the bitterness. In any case, this isn’t a tea I would keep around, but I’m glad I got to try it. Thanks again Anny Oxidant & the Tea Bullie.

Thank you Sil for this sample. I love orange and nothing sounds yummier than orange Sencha.

The raw blend smells strongly of orange and citrus with thick waxy tones. Also sweet and perfumey. I can see why people say this smells like Pledge or any sort of orange furniture cleaner/dust spray, has the same almost chemical perfume like scent. I did notice on the ingredients list that it contains ‘tangerine orange flavor’ which based upon the smell I am lead to believe is artificial.

Once steeped the tea is orange in colour and has a waxy orange and tangerine aroma. Flavour is strong and dry with a sweet and sour citrus tang. Very perfume like and with real artificial elements in the citrus flavours.

I decided to steep this tea different to the recommendations made on the packaging. They suggested to use boiling water for 4-5 minutes which in my opinion would have made it too strong and bitter, perhaps even undrinkable.

It’s an ok tea but my tongue and the roof of my mouth feels dry and powdery which is very off putting. Sencha is sometimes powder like so perhaps I should have done a quick rinse before hand. Never mind, one pot sample and I’m not sad about it.

Thank you once again Sil.

Travelling tea box!

So I don’t hate this but I totally see how others have called it “pledge” haha I think this might actually be kinda good if you cold brewed it and added sugar so ill have to try that with the rest of my sample :) hot it’s a little intense, and there are more interesting teas that do this better heh

Uggg. Another bad one from Caraway. If you like your tea with a touch of Pledge, this is your tea. Uggg

I’m not sure what the Pledge talk is all about or the hate for this tea. I actually quite like it. I had it iced & it’s nice & light. It’s definetly reminiscent of something else but I can’t place it (& it sure isn’t pledge).
I had to add a little honey which I usually do with greens. It has a touch of green tea taste, but is many citrus.
