Ergh, I feel like a zombie this morning. I seem to be completely over the jet lag, but this chest cold is knocking me down. A friend is defending her dissertation today, though, so I drug myself into work anyway.

You know, I think I have to go ahead and bump this one up a couple of points. Over time this has definitely come to be one of my favorites. Love the sweet fig flavor accompanied by all the florals and a nice rich black tea underneath. Today’s cup has a particularly sweet aftertaste that is definitely soothing my cough-worn throat. Let’s hope it also injects some life into me this morning so I can make it through the day here!

It is so humid out – I was craving something light and fruity after I waded through the swamp, I mean walked to work from the train :) The French teas that Dinosara sent were calling to me from my tea drawer with their intoxicating fruity and flowery fragrances! I picked this one because I thought the ingredients included in the blend mixed with the Ceylon and China teas would really hit the spot. I took it with a half teaspoon of sugar – I seem to like these French teas with un peu! ;)

I’m getting good tea, then the sweet, slightly pithy, slightly powdered sugary citrus hits, and then I taste a sweet and delightful fig flavor. I was so afraid that this would be another tea that sent me on a reverie of nostalgia – figs are another flavor I associate with being a child. We always had dried figs for the Winter Holidays, and our neighbor directly in back had a fig tree that reached into our yard. Summers were for fresh milky delicate figs. Thankfully, with this tea, the citrus mitigates the figgy flavor enough so that I am smiling and remembering, and not shot through the heart!

Dinosara, thank you! This is a sultry summer day in a cup. I love it.

I never would eat figs. My mom loved them, and I even made fig preserves for her from my mother-in-law’s figs. Then I had fig in French tea and ooo la la! I am planning to scoop up all of Mima’s figs as soon as they are ready since she doesn’t eat them at all.

I LOVE figs in all their forms. You wouldn’t believe how many teas with fig in them I had on my list for Dammann Freres before I narrowed it down to this one!

I’ve never had French tea before, but all your tasting notes are getting me curious. And I agree about the nostalgia. I hate it when certain things (especially food I find) force me into a state of the past. Nostalgia is at first comforting and then rattling and troubling- reminding you of what once was and what now isn’t.

Thanks to Dammann, I know by now what a pitanga is, as I had to search for that :)
What an ingredient list…I was expecting something more parfumed regarding that point but it wasn’t so perfumed.

The dry leaf scent is really lovely, a mix of flower scent and citrus to me.

Same DF base, I won’t speak again about their unique base (which is good).Pourquoi changer une équipe qui gagne ? hummm to get more personnality and tea exploration pershaps ?

Liquor : I was expexting something more perfumed as well but it is really nice : I get the cherry blossom for sure (the famous pitanga !), fig, citrus.
The flavours are recognizable, this is really a nice surprise , I was daring having a kind of global flavour without subtility and it’s not the case.
More complicated to me : get the flowery notes separately _I don’t manage to, sorry.

It was my first cup of the morning but I strongly recommend to have it in the afternoon.It’s a very delicate and quite complex tea.

I don’t think I’ll repurchase it but I am happy to have 50g to enjoy.

Tea of the morning……

And tea 24 of 24! This one is from Dinosara, and I am in love. I don’t know what it is about this one. Usually I am not a fan when there are many flavors going on, but I am thoroughly impressed with the way Dammann Freres blends their tea into such a perfect cup. There are not ever any standouts…they are are blended together seamlessly. I can’t really say what exactly it is I am tasting, but it is delish! This company is definitely on my future order wish list!

Merci beaucoup to Dinosara for this lovely French tea sample!

The dry aroma smells sweet and fruity, not floral. Somehow, with a name like 7 Parfums, I was expecting something more perfume like, but it certainly isn’t.

Again, I steeped lightly, however, for me, it was somewhat daring. I went with a 2.5 minute steeping time. The fragrance is wonderful, light and fruity. It’s very reminiscent of Marco Polo, as is the taste, but lighter, and fruitier. It’s more complex than Marco Polo, but not as full tasting. I’d say this is more of an afternoon tea with its liveliness. The red berry flavor is what comes to the forefront. It’s followed by a light citrus taste, which is anchored by a smooth black base that isn’t astringent or bitter at all. This has soared to the front as one of my favorites.

This is another tea from the Dammann Freres group tea ordering project Doulton put together. I started laughing when I read the ingredients. This is indeed the fourth tea from Dammann Freres I’ve tried with fig as an ingredient. Fig. 4!

Amazingly, the dry leaves smell like peach even though there is no peach flavored anything identified as an ingredient. I can get fig as well. I had to look up what pitanga is, and if it smells like cherry, I can find that as well. Ironically, what I’m not getting is a whole lot of citrus, which, one would think, would be the main event since there is lemon, bergamot and orange in this. It’s definitely in there, but it isn’t in-your-face.

The aroma of the tea also reminds me, inexplicably, of peach. Through some weird synergy of the ingredients, that’s what I smell. I can pick out the individual fragrances as well, even the rose.

The word that came to me when I was thinking of how to describe the taste is “French” which I realize isn’t very helpful. It’s a complex flavor; like its name, a well-blended perfume that doesn’t have one particular note sing out, but if you’re willing to spend the time putting your mind to each flavor you can find it there and, more interestingly, find how it interacts with the others. That’s what I think of when I think of French perfume.

It’s a tea I think would taste particularly fine on a fall day when the air is just starting to get a crispness in it. It’s not heavy, but it has a depth to it that may feel too heavy for spring and summer consumption.

A fantastic aroma – although I’m not at all surprised… I’ve come to expect a sumptuous fragrance with Dammann Freres teas! Always enticing is the scent – beckoning me to take a sip.

I am going to agree with Morgana on this one – it definitely has a depth to it that would make this a much better tea for chilly weather. Not heavy, exactly… but, deep and rich in flavor… very French.

Even though the weather isn’t chilly, I’m still quite enjoying this cup for what it is. Lovely, aromatic, rich and delicious. Pleasantly fruity. Lovely and floral. Very nice.
