Glitter & Gold

Black Tea by DAVIDsTEA

Sophisticated seduction
This deep dark Chinese tea is like a gorgeous starry night, glimmering with gold and silver sugar crystals that shimmer as they steep. Take a sip and the slow suggestion of cinnamon will warm your body. Your toes will tingle and your mind will turn to fireworks, falling stars, late-night seduction. It’s basically magic. (Is it getting hot in here, or is it just the tea?)

Ingredients: Chinese black tea, sugar crystals, gold sugar balls, vanilla, orange peel, cloves.

this tea is so pretty to look at it makes me feel like a princess!!

The dry leaves definitely smell like cinamon, so soothing.

while steeping the cinamon really shines! my office smells likes i’ve got cinamon buns in the oven!

The tea is shimering! So pretty it feels like i’m watching a lava lamp.

Mmmmm…the taste is really nice, the cinamon isn’t too strong, and the black tea is present with a hint of sweetness at the end.

Ok this is one of my new favorites!

Got this as a sample with my last order, god I LOVE how pretty this tea is! watching the sparkles move around in it is mesmerizing!

Now if David’s tea could come up with a pick tea that sparkles and is caffeine free my 3 year old Daughter would be in heaven! She keeps wanting to have princess tea parties with me!

upping this rating on sheer prettiness!

Shinny! This tea looks amazing first off! I’ve never seen a tea literally shimmer…but this stuff did. It was like looking into a cup of stars. So pretty looking I almost didn’t want to drink it. And as I drizzled my honey in, the shimmers swirled around so elegantly…if that’s possible in tea??

Anyway, dry this tea has a nice sweet smell to it, but not too sweet. Looking at the ingredients (sugar crystals and gold sugar balls)-lots of sugar seemed to be added to this tea, so I was a little nervous about this tea being too sweet.

This tea has a nice aroma during/after steep as well. It reminds me of fall/winter teas. I wouldn’t mind buying another package of this tea.

Advent calendar tea (oh man, I am SO. BEHIND). It’s funny because I just reviewed another tea and said that I couldn’t get past the taste of cloves in it, but the cloves in this tea didn’t bother me one bit. In fact, I really enjoyed this tea.

I had this in a black mug so I couldn’t enjoy the sparkly swirl (boo). I love the combination of the cinnamon and orange peel (those are the strongest tastes I’m getting). The vanilla makes it so smooth but the clove gives it a nice sharp contrast. I didn’t have to add milk or sweetener because it already felt so full without it.

I can’t say this about many of the other teas I’ve tried from the calendar so far, but I think I may purchase this once my sample runs out!

I can remember like yesterday the first ever tea I tried at David’s. What entranced me most when shown this blend was the magical shimmering effect when the sugar crystals melted. It really did look enchanting and the scent was tantalizing. Slowly I would bring the cup to my lips to take in the full deep flavor notes. Mmm..the cinnamon sweet taste was just as wonderful as expected. It was not too overwhelming like some cinnamon teas and made me fall in love with trying more from the store. Ever since then I’ve been hooked and try to visit the store at least once a week.

I steeped this tea for less time than recommended because I seem to be very sensitive to the bitterness of black teas lately.

The taste of the black tea is at the forefront of the flavour with a blooming of cinnamon taste on the finish. I really like how the two flavours are present but separate from each other on the sip; each can be enjoyed on its own. I find that in many flavoured teas the base tea flavour is lost in the background.

DavidsTea sent this to me as a replacement for something I didn’t like. It’s so sparkly and happy, I love watching it brew. There’s definitely a cinnamon flavor, but something else I can’t put my finger on as well.

I just wanted to add that I had this cold brewed today, and it is excellent. I think it’s much better than hot. Which is great, cause it’s sweltering here.

I have not tasted this yet, but Oh My God, it smells like Christmas!

So much better as a latte!

Something of an “emancipation” latte – I had this when I realised it was time to move on.

I remember the first time I had this tea I was upset at how strong it was (the guy behind the counter put two scoops into my t-sak) this time as a latte it was perfect. Danielle knows what she is doing.

Wow, I’m almost sorry I put off purchasing this tea. It is delightful and this morning it steeped twice. Tue second steep really brought out the cinnamon.

More later when I’m not fighing with a touch screen keyboard.

I’ll say it again and again and again… This ROCKS as a Latte!

This was my “to go” tea today, I wish I had had the foresight to bring a container to keep the leaves in, so that I could have infused them again. That being said this tea that “smells like Christmas” was a little over steeped but I don’t think that will change my opinion enough to take this tea off my shopping list.

This tea with some steamed milk, would really make a delightful treat on a cool fall afternoon.

Thank-you honey for buying this one for me!!!!! :D Even if it did get over steeped, next time it will be AWESOME!

I really enjoyed this tea! I grabbed a cup to go when I went in to buy my mom’s Christmas gift. I really loved the warmth of this tea. Similarely to Ceylon Star, I can see myself drinking this during the winter and fall but not so much in the summer. I also really love how it sparkles in the cup…I will be picking some more of this up soon!

After losing my laptop and a very good reading magazine, I gave up having an enjoyable evening and brewed this to try and warm me. I did not have high hopes as it did not smell very appealing but low and behold this tea surprised me.

First with my cup sparkling. That was lovely to see. Second with the taste. I did not find myself having to adjust it at all. The little sugar balls that come with it do a fine job of making it sweet and the rest goes down like a pleasant black tea should. I will admit it doesn’t wow my britches off but for a night like this when a chinook is in full swing and the stars are out it makes me feel comfort. That’s usually what I ask for in a tea. There will be a tin on my shelf of this… Just in case another night proves miserable or a chinook decides to rattle the trees.

This tea is shockingly delicious. I didn’t pick it out on my own, but it was suggested to me by the girl working at David’s Tea and I gave it a shot. I was scared by the cinnamon I could smell, but she assured me that it was really sweet and delicious. I tried it with trepidation at home with a splash of half and half in hopes of toning down the cinnamon. It was absolutely divine! Really sweet, like candy, and not at all spicy. Next time I brew it I might even take a sip without milk in it. Definitely going to be a repurchase for me. Side note – as it was brewing it was incredibly beautiful, shimmering and glittering in the infuser. After adding milk the beauty is lost, no more sparkle.

I recieved this tea in a batch of samples. The sample bag just said it was called “Glitter & Gold” and that it was a black tea. I had no clue what to expect from it, but went ahead and brewed it. There is definately a cinnamon scent, though not overpowering. You can also smell a bit of the earthy black tea base. The gold sugar balls flake off and create the shimmering effects this tea boasts. It is quite beautiful to look at.
Now for the taste:
Cinnamon, though as I said, not overpowering. There also seems to be a hint of vinilla in there, creating a smoothness. There is orange peel listed in the ingredients, but I didn’t pick much up, that I can recall. It does taste a bit sweet (though not overtly so) and this is to be expected as the tea contains sugar. The black tea base isn’t too strong, which I like. I’m not a huge fan of black tea because it can have the tendency to be very strong and astringent tasting. This tea, at least the way I brewed it, was very mellow and pleasent. Perfect for the holiday season and the cold weather!
Needless to say, I went ahead and purchased some. It’s pretty darn delicious!

Nice little wake-me-up this afternoon. Perfect on a cold day like today. The cinnamon/vanilla flavor really warms you up. I’ll be sad when I run out of this one. Still one of my favorite flavored black teas! Glad I chose this one to drink. It really hit the spot.

I am a big fan of tea that glitters. This feels like I’m drinking liquid gold. Or possibly magic. Magic tastes like cloves and a slight hint of cinnamon. The flavour could be a bit more refined, I think, but still— as far as teas go, this one is incandescent.

I was recommended this one for lattes by a friend because she said it tasted like a cheap chai. I also like it straight because of how it sparkles.

It is a nice rich cinamony tea, good straight or with milk and sugar. I don’t think it’s the best flavoured black, but it’s a good crowd pleaser since it caters to familiar flavours.

Day 6 of Advent Calendar happiness!

I was super super hung over this day which is why I am a few days behind in my tea reviews. I like Glitter and Gold a lot. It is really fun to make this in a clear mug, and then put frothed milk on time because it swirls together in a sparkly way. Very exciting. My mom also liked this one a lot.

Okay, first off I’ll just come out and say it: I love this tea. I love this tea like I love my mother. It has found it’s way into my permanent rotation, and I am extremely glad to have discovered it. Now to the actual review:

The dry leaves smelled very much like a sweet-ish chai to me, but I could definitely pick up on the citrusy scent of the orange peel! Brewing the tea, I had a pretty decent idea of what to expect, having seen many pictures of glitter & gold on instagram (yes, I check the #davidstea hashtag quite frequently. No shame!), and was slightly disappointed at the low amount of sparklies in my tea (this is probably due to my method of steeping it in a teapot – note to self: buy DT steeper!), but this disappointment quickly turned to joy upon tasting the tea: a very prominent black tea taste with the sweetness of sugar, the warming taste of cinnamon, and slight orangey undertones.

One complaint I tend to have about certain teas from David’s would be that if there’s cinnamon there’s usually too much (Cinnamon Heart) or too little (Stormy Night), but I certainly didn’t have that problem with this tea. I could definitely taste it, and it in fact was a very cinnamon-y tea, but not overpoweringly so.

I enjoyed the appearance of this tea and was excited by the little golden balls and the whole cloves.
I wasn’t crazy about the smell…put me in mind of cinnamon jelly bellys…which was probably the only flavour of jelly belly I didn’t like. I’m beginning to wonder if I actually like cinnamon at all. When I think of rice pudding, or apple pie or anything like that I feel cinnamon should be an ingredient, and I throw powder and whole cinnamon sticks into into many Indian dishes so I would say yes I like cinnamon but if I come across any cinnamon flavoured sweets or gums when I travel abroad I think it’s disgusting. I always throught I liked cinnamon but not ‘fake cinnamon’ but I think the truth is I like a little cinnamon with rasins or apples.
Back to the tea…it had a beautiful appearance while brewing…shimmery gold. When I added milk the shimmers disappeared and it revealed itself to be a pale weak tea that still smelled like a cinnamon jelly belly. That is how it tasted too.

This tea is terrific!! It’s hard to believe that a tea could actually sparkle, but if you’ve had this tea, you know it is absolutely possible. It glitters all the way through. My first reaction was “there’s a galaxy in my mug!”

This is such a smooth, comforting tea, with just the right balance of flavors. It’s unique enough that I don’t think I could compare it to much else. All I can tell you is that I have to restrict myself on how much black tea I can have, and this is one of the few that I keep around my tea cupboard for the occasional guilty pleasure brew.

This is almost a kind of tea royalty. There are actually silver and gold sugar crystals that dissolve when you brew it and add a gorgeous shimmer that swirls around your cup. The cinnamon smell and taste make this perfect for curling up on the couch with. It reminds me of dark cabins in the winter and fireplaces and the best quilt you’ve ever owned. Like it says in the description, it’s basically magic.

Sparkley tea? Hell yeah!

Smell of dry leaves is a strong hit of vanilla. I bought this tea before work and my coworkers smelled it and loved it for the vanilla. Also a subtle spice smell. Looks very fun with gold balls and sugar crystals.

Steeped… I tried 3 times to get it to sparkle! First time was at work, in my travel tea glass. No sparkle. I even screwed on the cap and shook it (a little dangerous) and I didn’t see anything on the glass walls of the tea glass. Boooo!
Next attempt I used my DAVIDsTea steeper. I didn’t see any sparkle while in the steeper and none when I poured it into my cup.
Third time, I saw a link off DAVIDsTea’s twitter showing video of their tea sparkling and I was like “WTH” – the sparkle is at the top of the cup, not the sides. So I tried again today – steeping just with a tea cup and a metal tea strainer. I cheated a bit, bobbling the strainer around a few times – but as the steep went on, the more sparkle happened, stopping a few minutes after the 5 minute steeped finish and I was drinking it.

It’s a fine glitter sparkle in dark amber tea, it’s like flying in an amber star field.

Taste, warm cinnamon mixed with a bit of sweetness. I’d say a perfect level of sweetness to notice and find it pleasant, but not freaking out on the calories of this tea sweet. Hit of vanilla taste and of course, balanced with black tea. I think I can taste the cloves, but it’s very muted. I don’t detect the orange peel, but I find since I like to cook, orange peel doesn’t come off strong compared to lemon. It could also be the luck of the scoop of dried tea not having much orange. This is also me reviewing the taste using a metal tea strainer that doesn’t have as much movement compared to a Steeper device.

So, will I buy this again? Maybe. I’d say if you want a nice black tea on shelf, but not the standard black tea it would be a great addition to have. I’d show this tea to guests, especially the kind who just drink black teas like Earl Greys and Pekoes. Thus, I might buy another 30-50 grams. A staple black tea? Ehhh, my staple is Adagio Tea’s “Black Dragon Pearls”.

I think baking with this tea might be interesting though……. mmmmmmm!

I find this tea absolutely delicious. As a coffee drinker, I’ve been having trouble being sold on tea and finding one I really love. So far, from all the teas I’ve ever tried, I think this is ‘the one’. Not only is it gorgeous to watch, but it’s rich and cinnamon-y, without being too sweet. It has some caffeine in it, which is what I wanted. Of course, it’s not nearly as much as coffee, but it’s nice to drink this late in the afternoon at work to get a small energy boost when you’re beginning to think you might nod off.

What I like most about this is you can drink it just as it is once it has steeped without having to add a thing. I find it difficult to add sugar or milk to tea, I find it makes it taste artificial and gross. Maybe I’m just weird… but the fact that this one is sweet on its own (probably because it has sugar granules in the mix) is a plus for me!
