Black Tea by DAVIDsTEA

Kiss me, kiss me

Okay, this is probably the world’s best chocolate tea. Honestly. Better than dessert. More reliable than sex. It’s a totally decadent combination of China black tea, vanilla, peppermint, chocolate bits and spicy red peppercorns. Plus it contains little red candy lips for a kiss of sweetness. In other words, it’s a completely satisfying spring experience with no guilt or strings attached.

Ingredients: Chinese black tea, peppermint, dark chocolate, red lip sprinkles, pink peppercorns, natural and artificial flavouring*.

Allergens: Soy and dairy

I used 1.25 David’s Tea Scoops for my Aqua-Ovo tea tumbler

Primary flavour is mint. Faint chocolate taste closer to the end of the sip which is mostly overpowered by the mint. Cool minty feel on the aftertaste. Black tea taste is difficult to detect. The overall taste is too smooth (likely from the vanilla) for what I would expect a spicy chocolate mint tea to taste like.

I absolutely loved this tea, it is my perfect peppermint tea, not too much peppermint in here and the perfect amount of chocolate to compliment it..

I couldn’t smell so much from the bag, I only noticed the cute red lips which made me all happy and fuzzy.. the aroma of the tea brewed is lovely, it’s such a perfect black tea smell with peppermint, I can smell something sweet, not sugar though…

I drank this alone… no milk or sugar. It was perfect, I was gulping this down, and I might even have a resteep of it!! It tastes like after eight chocolates (if you’ve ever tried) which I eat constantly at work and to have this as a tea?!? I’m buying more of this! I NEED THIS TEA IN MY LIFE

This is a mint tea w a note of chocolate. Like a desert mint tea. Maybe it is the chocolate- maybe it is the peppercorns, but those additions give a mildness and sweetness to the peppermint. I would recommend this tea.

I’ve been waiting for the right time to give this sample from ShayneBear a try. Today seemed like the right day. Even though it is lovely outside, inside, I feel congestion and sinus pressure, and I am sneezing. I also woke up to a sore throat. So I figured the peppercorns and peppermint would be good for my congestion and sinus issues, the black tea would help me stay conscious so I can go out to do an errand or two downtown, and the chocolate and candy cane lips are purely for my emotional well being. :P

So I like this tea!! I don’t know why I waited so long to try it. Perhaps it is because of the mint, because I admit I am very picky about mint in my teas. I know this is one of the signature teas they have at DAVIDs, and it is included in just about every sample collection…ha!!

The mint and chocolate do balance very nicely, and I do feel a little tingle on my tongue that can only be from the peppercorns. Everything seems well balanced here, and I am enjoying this cuppa with milk and sugar, which is extra comforting to me. I’m grateful for the generous sample of this. YAY!

I’m probably gonna re-steep the leaves for a second batch for my Timolino or kids mug, get dressed, and head downtown for those few errands while it is nice out.

Got this in my Xmas gift…

1st smell: Peppery. But not overpowering.
1st Taste: I am starting to think that the Graham cracker taste is a signature flavor with all David’s Teas, though maybe only with the Black Teas. I don’t I tasted that with the Goji Pop……
It’s overall an interesting cup, I love the creativity that went into making the tea, however, I don’t see myself needing to keep this in my cupboard.

Whoo, one tea down… so many more to go.
I’ll kind of miss this tea. It’s a nice one that really hits the spot when I’m in certain moods, but I don’t think I’d consider it as a cupboard staple. Might get more someday, once I get through some more teas.

I JUST received my lovely care package from Katgolik and will have to say THANK YOU! This is the first tea I’m going to try from the package.

And….Its really good! Sort of minty, which I wasn’t expecting, as well as the chocolate. The chocolate is the kind that I like, not chunks but almost in the tea leaves instead which is nice. I will buy more of this, definatly. :)

Chocolate, minty with a touch of spice. I had my mom make me some of this post surgery yesterday and it tasted great! My husband does not know how to make my tea- he says that is why he bought me the breville…. have to teach him how to use it! But mom came through for me :)

Added a splash of Peppermint Mocha Creamer by Nestle today, yum yum!

Dry this one smells of delicious chocolate with a hint of peppermint. Steeped it still smells of chocolate and peppermint but the peppermint smell is stronger then when dry. At first it tastes of chocolate and peppermint. The peppermint slowly gets stronger and stronger till swallowing. After you sallow, the chocolate starts to get stronger in the after taste and the peppermint dies down a bit. I get a tiny hint of peppercorn, I don’t think there were any peppercorns in this spoon. I usually don’t like anything that is chocolate and mint together, but for some reason I really like this tea. Perhaps because the peppermint isn’t completely over powering the chocolate. Not exactly sure what it is but this tea is yummy and more then likely a repurchase :)

DAVIDsTEA

Dry Leaf Nose: Chocolate and mint with black tea base.

Liquor: Glowering red brown with slight cloud.

Flavour: A delightful mint chocolate flavour with a smooth black tea background.

This is fantastic! Thanks Emilie for this sample. Definitely adding this to my next order.
I was actually hesitant to try this because of the peppercorns, I thought it was going to be spicy. As I’ve said before I’m a total wuss when it comes to spices, but no worries here!
It’s like an Andes mint in a cup, with a little kick from the peppercorns. So so delicious. The mint is nice and cool on the tongue but the chocolate is rich and mellows it out. Yum. The peppercorns show up as an aftertaste in the back of my mouth. I can definitely see why this is a best seller.

I needed this after working over 10 hours yesterday when it was a crazy crazy madhouse at the clinic. So tasty and relaxing. I got a huuuuuge 250g bag to split with my FMIL (future mother-in-law) who loves this tea as well (honestly I was not expecting so big of a bag, like holy moly). So I got home at like 9:30 and yay a DT box waiting for me. :)

What more can be said about this one that hasn’t been said already? It’s cute in a dry form with the candy lips. It smells like a heavenly mix of milk chocolate and mint with just the tiniest hiding note of vanilla.

Steeped? You get just that. One of the better chocolate flavoured teas I’ve been lucky enough to find, with a lovely mint flavour that doesn’t dominate but works and plays nicely with the chocolate. This was my first David’s tea, and I haven’t been a day without it in my cupboard since I was given my first sample. The only thing keeping it from a perfect 100 is that sometimes the candy lips don’t dissolve fast enough when I make a mug, and they stick to the infuser.

Wow it has been over a month since I had this? No wonder I have been craving it. Made a pot this morning and just revelled in how delightful the flavours are. This is a must- have in my cupboard.

This is another sample that Kristen sent me in a swap (thanks!). I like it; not as much as the buttered rum, but it’s good. It’s very minty and the chocolate is more of a background flavor. The unsteeped tea is beautiful with the red lips candy and tons of dark chocolate chips. I wish it had more chocolate flavor but I still like it enough that I might order this one too. DavidsTea flavored black teas seem to have a nice quality base. I don’t detect any astringency or bitterness in this tea after a 5 minute steep.

Had a cup of this one today. It’s so nice on a winter’s day curled up with a book.

Perfect apres-ski apres-beer tea. Lovely.

This tastes quite like After Eight mints, which I do love, but the tea isn’t really doing it for me like I’d hoped it would. I really enjoy the freshness I feel in my mouth after a sip, though. That mint is delightful!

And, as usual, I preferred the second steep. Slightly toned down and bit and quite tasty.

Sigh.

The more I drink this, the more I don’t care for it.

I think maybe I’m just very hard to please today. It seems like nothing I drink is really hitting the spot. I think I will finish my cup of this, make some tea for fridge jars for tomorrow, and go to bed. Haha!

This has got to be the most fun tea to look at! It’s so pretty. And the way it smells dry is absolutely amazing – I could smell this tea all day long and be satisfied.

While brewing this tea my kitchen smelled heavenly. Like maybe I was making Christmas candy in there or something. I love the dark color it produces. The tea itself smells more minty than chocolatey, but the chocolate is definitely there.

What an interesting taste! The mint is definitely first, but there is a real creaminess that comes directly after that followed by a hint of chocolate. I love the creamy aspect of this tea it really tastes like I added something to it but I haven’t. Minty, silky, milky… Wow! What a smooth flavor. I think I’m in love. Like I have to order more of this right away! I don’t care what trouble I’ll be in when my boyfriend realizes I’ve ordered more tea!

Hands down this is my new favorite! No contest. I am so happy right now =)

Read my lips - if I weren’t speechless!

The power is out all around where I live. My apartment is running on a back up generator so some of my apartment has power, but most of it doesn’t. A few lights work and most of the kitchen is working. I’m currently sitting on my kitchen counter with my laptop and phone plugged into one of the only outlets that’s working, eating ramen noodles (yay gas stove) and enjoying a nice fresh cup of Read My Lips. Thank god the outlet my Breville is plugged into is working!

I’m not sure if I will be working today or not. The power has been off at my work since about 6pm last night. My boyfriend however was not so lucky. He ventured out into the storm at 5am only to find power is on at his work and about 1/2 the people showed up today. But, since power is on the day is going according to plan for him. So I’m alone hoping the generator stays on. And very cold since the heat has been off for a while now. Yup, just me and my rats and a cup of Read My Lips. Someone had just asked in the discussions thread what tea is your “pick me up” tea – I think it’s safe to say this is my pick me up tea. I reached for it right away it wasn’t even a thought process.

Finally! It feels like it’s been weeks, months, even years since I ordered 100g of Read My Lips and at last it’s here! Okay, so in reality it’s only been about 10 days but those 10 days have been an eternity, especially since I finished off the last of the amount I had. I’ve been needing this tea so bad.

Yes! Yes! Yes! The smell is driving me insane! Usually I enjoy smelling and watching the tea cool a bit but this is pure torture…but so worth it.

At last, we are reunited. Minty chocolatey milky smooth deliciousness. This tea really is better than sex, but don’t tell my boyfriend I said that =)

Hmm, I think something is going on with my mouth. I tried four different teas yesterday and they were all weak and meh. Then I tried this today, and it was meh. I do have these weird little bumps in one spot on the roof of my mouth, that I just noticed today. Maybe I somehow burned myself really bad or something. I hope it’s just my taster that’s not working, because I really want these teas to taste good!
As far as I can tell, I couldn’t really taste much chocolate or peppermint with this. I’ll definitely give it another try later.

Such a great memory – the first time I was ever introduced to DT, I purchased Honeybee and Chocolate Rocket (it was a successful mate trip). I decided to try this tea to go and as soon as we drove away I instantly regretted not buying some of this. Which brought me to their website as I sadly don’t live in a city with a DT. Oh heavens am I glad (maybe not my wallet) that I found this tea!

Dry: Cute little red lips, chocolate chips, peppermint and black leaves. It smells like a peppermint patty! So delicious. This is another tea I often huff (I don’t have a problem I swear)
Liquor: Dark brownish with a reddish hue. I can see melted chocolate. Ooooh melted chocolate in tea is just fine with me! It also smells like a heavenly cup of peppermint hot chocolate (someone even asked if I was drinking peppermint hot chocolate because of the smell that filled the entire room!) The taste is just as great. I can drink this for hours at a time and not get sick of it. The leaves/flavour also stand up exceptionally well for two steeps (so I have found).. the third definitely does not have as much oomph as the previous steeps, but it still tastes like delicious pepperminty chocolate (peppermint becoming a more prominent flavour instead of the chocolate goodness). Usually I add one more tsp for my 3.5 cup cast iron tea pot if I want to get another good steep out of the leaves (currently, I am on my 5th steep – a lot more mellow in all flavours. Still drinkable, but it’s not a punch in the face chocolate peppermint anymore)

I love this tea. It loves me back by giving me delicious liquid peppermint patties. Thanks Tea.

Hmmm, apparently never drank this . . . I’m sure I have and Steepster lies (or I was lazy). Very yummy. We’re making the opening of the Advent calendar a tradition – open it, and make a pot to share.

I’m glad I rediscovered this tea. Definitely need to refill the little candy tin.

My process for selecting a Giant Thermos o’ Tea is pretty basic, mainly because I tend to do it at butt-o’clock in the morning while I’m getting ready for work. Factors I have to keep in mind are caffeine content (preferably high), whether or not it will get bitter, and overall flavour. I tend to reach for the same small collection of greens, but this day I skipped over them and reached for this old favourite instead. Last Valentine’s Day, I picked up the little tin of this tea and some chocolates for my wife, and every time I drink it, I’m always surprised by how all-around delicious it is, like Santa’s Secret with a bit more chocolate.

It was kinda funny, though. As I was drinking, it was like reminiscing to an earlier, simpler time – a whole year ago. Well, maybe a bit more than that. But when we first discovered DAVIDsTEA, we stuck mainly to the flavoured blacks and herbals. Not sure why – maybe we were intimidated by the other choices, maybe we didn’t see the point of straight looseleaf teas when we could buy bagged, whatever. We have since gotten over that. But drinking this today reminded me of how good those flavoured blacks were to me, who had theretofore been subjected mainly to Red Rose.

Anyway. I think I’m going to back to some of the teas we got at the beginning, dig up old favourites. Now that I know a bit more about how to brew tea, especially blacks, properly, I think I might find some real treasures.

Just so flat-out tasty. I wish I had realised how good it is earlier. It’s even good when brewed in-store.

On my tea latte roll now. I’ve had the read my lips tea plain (before I found this wonderful web site…) and felt it was time to try it as a latte.

The smell as it was steeping reminds me of the spiked hot chocolates I would make after a hike on the weekend (made with some creme de mint). Even has me wondering how it might taste with a small splash ;)

The taste is very light. Kinda like a very weak/mellow spiked hot chocolate… Not to chocolatey and not too minty – just right for when you don’t have much of a sweet tooth, but want something (if you know what I mean).

My next though is that I’m now wondering how this tea would taste mixed with the Oh Christmas Treat – thinking chocolate mint Terry’s christmas orange…
