Strawberry White (organic)

White Tea by DAVIDsTEA

Yes, it’s true. This blend really does use a superior, organic, Silver Needle white tea. It’s also true that we have been accused of “needless decadence” for having combined these premium buds with beautiful, organic, dried strawberries. But honestly, doesn’t everyone need a little decadence in their lives? The taste is so delicately perfect that it’s worth putting up with some flak.

This is an interesting tea. I can’t decide how I feel about it. The sweetness of the strawberry seems to conflict with the hay in the silver needle. It’s strange. The immediate aftertaste is cloyingly sweet strawberry fruit snacks. But once that fades, the taste that lingers is actually pretty great. Just perfect silver needle with a light strawberry essence. That after aftertaste is what I like most about this tea and keeps me sipping. I think I’ll re-steep this one and continue to enjoy it! Thank you Kittenna for sharing yet another great tea with me!

Ages and ages and ages ago, when I first got into tea, I had this tea steeped in-store. She told me to give it 3-4 minutes, so I did. When I drank it, it was bitter and dry and…bland.

I came across a website a few months ago that highly recommended giving white teas a mere 30 seconds. I laughed, but I tried it and I’ve never looked back.

But because of that first experience, I never tried this tea again until today. As suspected, I fell in love. I adore strawberries and iced white tea, so this is right up my alley. The fruit taste is light and tasty, but not overwhelming and you can really taste the white tea. A definite win.

Around noon yesterday I realized my inlaws were coming over for dinner, and all I had to drink was a lone beer, orange juice, and root beer tea that we didn’t like that had been sitting in the fridge for a week.

So I set to making tea! I made this one first, because my mother in law loves berries. I got a 10g sample in store a little bit ago and have only had 1 cup of hot out of it, so I used the rest of the package and steeped the leaves twice to get a full pitcher. I’d rather use less leaf and do multiple steepings. I’ve also gotten into the habit of not using an infuser for my pots-of-tea-to-be-iced, as I pour them out anyway into another vessel. I just strain as I pour.

This one managed to be cold by five with the help of a few hours in the fridge and the ice tube insert in the middle of the pitcher. We went through about a liter of the stuff! It was light and refreshing, just what we needed after heavy Chinese takeout. Still, I have many other whites I like a lot more, I’m not sure I’ll be replacing this one. Probably not as long as I have Strawberry Rhubarb on my shelf.

Yeah, this tea was okay, but I finished it up yesterday and don’t think I’ll be replacing it any time soon.

Well, this tea seems to have seriously split reviews, and I’m not going to help with that. It’s fine enoguh, but not my thing. I’ve suspected for some time that I don’t really like white tea all that much, and this has sort of convinced me. I don’t get very much strawberry taste, I mostly just get white tea, and that doesn’t really excite me too much. I definitely don’t feel like re-buying this one. The dry smell is similar to DT’s White Tiger (which I did like) but it mostly just becomes a sweet white tea once steeped.

I was lazy and using the other two tea balls in the house (for Movie Night and Caramel Spice) so just plopped the tea directly into the cup… Here’s hoping I haven’t oversteeped it!

Yum, my cup smells light and fruity and sweet. The tea tastes similar – and this is the first white tea where I’ve actually tasted the tea! It’s definitely oversteeped, but not that bad because of it…. except that I just somehow got some into my nasal passages and it’s BURNING (you know, like any foreign liquid does). Kind of ruining my tasting experience…

Anyways, this is kinda tasty, mostly because I’m getting the fruitiness AND tea flavour, and I quite like it. Further notes and rating to come once my nose recovers.

ETA: Ok, all better. And… yum :) Given that I’m enjoying this even with a horrendously long steeping time, I’m going to say it’s a winner for me. I can’t identify the fruitiness distinctly as strawberry, but that might be because either my tastebuds suck or I didn’t have enough strawberry chunks, but I am definitely pleasantly surprised. After not caring a great deal for either Mango Madness or Pom Power, I thought I didn’t like flavoured white teas… Happy to be proven wrong!

ETA: Upping rating farther. This is SO YUMMY even so very oversteeped. It’s hitting the tea-craving spot right now. Enough that I might have to make another cup.

In my earlier tea-obsession days, before I realized the joys of sampling many teas, I bought a 100g tin of this. Since then, I’ve massively regretted it, not because I don’t like the tea, but because 100g is an awful lot to finish off before it goes stale when your tea preferences are ever-changing and ever-curious! Anyhow, it occurred to me last night that I should make a cup of this to use some up, so I did! Of course, it was super super late (aka morning), and I ended up going to sleep before even touching it. Fast-forward to when I woke up and sampled the variety of cold teas by my bedside. I tried this one, and couldn’t remember for the life of me what it was… but I thought it tasted like Cantaloupe & Cream! Even though I knew I hadn’t brewed that up super recently. Anyways, it did finally occur to me that it was this tea, and then I tasted light strawberry instead of cantaloupe, but I was reminded that I really must try a straight silver needle tea, because it’s clearly the common thread between those two teas, and I really, really like it!

Anyhow, I’m rambling. I’ve had a bad day filled with new project deadlines and endless sample grinding and I’m tired and drinking cold tea. At least it’s tasty cold tea.

Hmm, I think I do like Forest Berry Silver Needle better, even though it’s cotton candy sweet and this one is more white tea-flavoured. Feel like I should have used filtered water today.

Mmmmmmmm, another very delicious, very oversteeped cup. I am just loving the strong flavour. And unlike other teas when they are oversteeped, I’m only feeling the astringency in the front of my mouth, not down my throat, which makes it quite bearable (I hate when I get a sore-throat feeling from teas).

Also got a bunch more strawberry pieces in the mix today, and am tasting more fruitiness. So glad I tried this tea :) Can’t wait to get more! Even though it’s expensive…

Actually tried this properly this time. First steep (1 min)? Fruity and delicious. Second steep (2 min)? Less fruity, but still white tea deliciousness. Third steep (infinite)? Mostly white tea, but still delicious. Yum yum yum. Glad I picked up 50g of this before it left the wall…

I bought this tea because I needed to love a flavored white tea, and this was the rave suggestion from the friendly staffer. Not to mention it smelled devine.

I made it following the DT directions, and the result can be described as such:
Take strawberries and 1 dirty gym sock and allow to sit in water overnight. It should pretty much equate to my first experience with Organic Strawberry White.

What a (disgusting) disappointment! But I have a new hope. Now that I see everyone saying that it should only be steeped 30 seconds, there is a chance that this tea can redeem itself in my eyes. I’ll try to pluck up my courage this week, and will let you guys know about it when I do.

EDIT:
The moment of truth!

I am now trying this previously detested tea with a steep time of only 30 seconds, annnnndddd….

It’s much better. Unfortunately, this tea is still not wowing me, but I think I may quite simply not like strawberries in tea.

It is no longer drab and disgusting. Instead, it is rather light and floral, with a strong strawberry flavour, especially in the aftertaste.

This won’t be a tea I’ll restock once I’m done, but now I’ll be able to finish off what I had bought!

Aisling of tea’s recent slew of strawberry teas made me crave my own strawberry or raspberry tea, only to discover that this is the only pure flavor of those two that I have. So, even though its not my favorite, decided to make some of this for my after-supper lounge.

This tea is actually kind of growing on me. It’s faint and subtle and light, and the strawberry flavour just barely peeks through the white tea, which is actually the perfect balance for this tea. I even had a second steep of this, and enjoyed it even more. Upping my rating for this one…

Does anyone have suggestions for a nice DT raspberry tea, other than Raspberry Nectar?

Ah, Strawberry White, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways…

Okay, so I know that people either love or hate this tea, and I gotta tell ya I’m in the love side. This was the first flavoured white tea that I tried and ever since, it has been the tea I measure all others against. It’s the tea I serve people when they come over to visit and I always get two steeps out of the leaves, which give you a little more bang for your buck. It’s light, crisp, with hints of the strawberry, never heavy or thick, and good hot or cold.

It’s been a rough week thus far, and we’re only at monday! Whyyyyyy??

No, no, we’re not going to wish our days away, we’re going to savour each and every one we get. Right? I’m in a bit of a funk because in a month it’ll be Christmas and it’s not that I am sad about that. No, no… I’m sad because my baby girl will be turning a year old on Xmas Eve and it feels like time is just flying by too fast! One moment I’m holding a wrinkly newborn in my arms, the next she’s motoring around the apartment attempting to unpack the newly washed laundry!

When I’m feeling nostalgic I reach for good, old Strawberry White. Reminds me of a simpler time: newly married, no baby, life was less hectic, and even though I am happy with where things are now I drink this tea and it immediately relaxes me! Plus it tastes just as good cold, which is inevitable with a busy baby around to make one forget about the cup of tea they just steeped.

I’ll make this short, since I have reviewed this tea multiple times already.

Went into my local store to see if I could buy up any remaining stock, but they’re already out! However, they assure me that it’s not being discontinued, just re-blended. Let us hope the re-blend tastes just as good—if not better—than the original.

Alas, I am down to my 2nd last cup of this, with just enough loose tea for a final cup sometime in the future. As usual it’s dreamy and luxurious with the perfect balance of strawberries and white tea. Please, oh please DAVIDsTEAdon’t screw this one up!

I know, I know, I’ve already written 2 notes on this tea already, but hold on a sec… have you been on steep.it yet? It’s this awesome little tea-timer website that alerts you on your computer when your tea is done.

Well, their suggestion for white teas is to steep them for only 30sec at only 80°C. I’ve always steeped my whites according to the recommendations on the package (3-4 min at 98°C) and they usually turn out alright, but why not try something new? I mean, you’re supposed to steep greens at a lower temp so you don’t scald the leaves right? Makes sense that it’d be the same for a white.

It came out pretty good, considering the different steep methods. More white tea than strawberry, but this means I will probably get a couple extra steeps out of the leaves instead of just 1-2. Hmmm… looks like I will have to try this method with whiskey white too, since it always seems to come out bitter when I brew according to DAVIDsTEA’s suggestions.

I made this in my new Breville One Touch for my mother, to whom I gave it in a sampler of teas for Christmas.

She said it took her back to the 80s. Interesting interpretation of the decade!

Anyway, this was tasty. It’s nice and fruity but more delicate, of fresh strawberries, than the almost candy-like fruitiness of a couple of other DavidsTeas. Mother liked it, too.

I cold-brewed this overnight as I knew I’d be in a rush this morning. It was nice having something to drink as I got ready all too early for my liking.

This was surprisingly flavourful for being cold brewed. The strawberry was sweeter, and the white tea flavour came through quite strongly. It was alright but I don’t know if I would do this again. I can’t decide how I feel about this tea, but I think it is better hot.

This is the nicest strawberry tea I’ve had. It’s very light and mild, but it’s nice that it tastes like fresh strawberries rather than strawberry candy. The white base is lovely.

This is a decent white tea.That said…

There are NO strawberries or even a hint of them in my cup.

False advertising all the way.

I like plain white tea and will drink it thus but next time I will buy the plain stuff if I want just the white tea with a no extras experience.

Seems criminal to charge so much and make me have great expectations only to find out I paid for a basic white tea with no extras. This is even more disappointing because most of the other white teas from DT that promise extras..deliver.

It tastes like a nice white tea but because of my disappointment I’m rating it also based on price and what was promised.

The third of my birthday teas from my lovely partner! (The second was genmaicha, which I neglected to log since I was drinking it while frantically studying for finals) To celebrate being done finals, I decided to try this last tea. From the smell alone, it was the one I was most excited about.

I read on here that many people prefer this tea steeped for less time, and the long recommended steeping time (5-6 minutes) made me a bit wary, so I taste tasted it after 30 seconds of steeping. I couldn’t really taste a whole lot at that point, and was hoping to be able to taste the strawberry a bit more, so I steeped it for another 30 seconds. Unfortunately the strawberry comes through more from the aroma of the tea then the taste, but I like the flavour of the silver needles which does come through quite well so I don’t mind too much. I am planning to try resteeping for the recommended time after I finish this cup, to see if it brings out the strawberry any more.

Edit: Tried a longer steep time, it didn’t really bring out the strawberry any more, so I’ll probably just stick with somewhere between 30s – 1 minute. It takes best when I take a deep inhale to get the strawberry smell as I drink. Still quite enjoyable, will definitely be drinking this again soon.

I waaaant to love this tea so much. It’s not bad, it’s quite good iced, but it’s not ZOMG awesome. I’ve tried steep times from 30 sec to 5 min, and all I taste is white tea. The strawberry is definitely more noticeable iced.

Regardless, I don’t regret purchasing 50g of this. It looks quite pretty, but unfortunately has yet to wow me.

It’s September and summer is finally here. I am drinking strawberry white at the moment, luke warm and kind of refreshing. I reduced the water temp a bit and that gives this tea more flavour, fo sho.

I first got this tea because I loved the smell after making my first cup I was not impressed something about it just didn’t taste right. One day I let the tea sit for a particularly long time at work to the point it got rather cold. And that is when I discovered the most delicious way to enjoy this tea. Ice cold. the colder the better. I have also added frozen strawberries instead of ice cubes for a amazing summer treat.
Its not bitter tasting so you don’t even need to sweeten much if at all.

My final words drink this tea ice cold, its the best

Working late again, so it’s a cup of tea to keep me warm when the furnace goes to sleep for the night again.
Strawberry White, eh? I have been known to enjoy white teas, but historically not the white teas from David’s. And smelling this very pale tea makes me understand why; their whites have a slight hit of a jasmine smell. And me no likey the jasmine. The strawberry is very much there too. It’s like a strawberry-scented french soap instead of a tea I’m about to drink.
First sip: don’t care for it. I’ll probably drink it all at some point, but this is certainly not going to be my go-to tea. I wanted it to taste a lot more like strawberries than it does. I understand the other reviewer’s diagnosis of “floral.” It tastes as much like jasmine as it smells.

sigh I wanted to like this so, so much. It sounded like it would be nice and fruity and clean.

Which it kind of is. But I’m also finding it VERY floral, which I can’t handle. Sadface.

Day 47 of my 101 days of tea!

I’ve been thinking about this one for a few days now, and finally got along to trying it now by getting a cup in-store. I was suggested a 5-minute steep time, so that’s the timing I went with. The bad news — it didn’t live up to my expectations. It smelled like a strawberry liqueur, but I found the white tea taste to be more powerful, and not quite my style. It grew on me somewhat, especially as it continued to resteep… I definitely liked it more with each cup, and the flavour didn’t seem to be diminishing at all even after the third time. If nothing else, you can definitely get your money’s worth out of this tea.

Strawberries and white tea, perfection, right?

Well, it wasn’t perfect but it wasn’t horrid either. If you like your teas tasting more of tea than fruit then this is a perfect one for you. There was some lovely undertones of strawberry which blended nicely with the needle flavour. I’ve finished up the small amount of this one I’ve bought, but I definitely don’t hesitate to recommend it to people who like their teas more . . . teaful.

It was my first time trying this tea, it seemed very promising. I like white tea so I went for it.
I could hardly taste the strawberry at all! It just kind of tasted like a sweet white tea to me. But I think it could be because I steeped it for too long? I think I will try a much shorter steep next time around.

I did a 30 second steep this time instead of 3 minutes and it was soooo much better! I could taste the strawberry and it complimented the white tea perfectly. Good for many steeps too. It’s delicate but not very complex. Sweet and lovely!

I’ve been gone for quite awhile… but I’m back now! Woooo!

It’s weird that this is my third note on this tea, but there are many others that I drink far more often that have only 1 or 0 notes. Anyway this is still a great tea, with a SHORT STEEP. That is the key for this tea! Then you get perfectly strawberry/white tea, both very pronounced and at the same time seamlessly blended together.

This is the tea that made me realize that I might just not like white tea.

I followed the brewing instructions from Davids, and found it to be bland and dusty tasting. And then I tried again, steeping for only a minute, and still, it’s dusty.

So I left it for a few months. And then when I became overwhelmed by the sheer volume of teas I own, I decided that I needed to give it another shot so I can finish it off.

Let’s see what icing it does. And maybe just 30s of steeping?

It’s much gentler, but the strawberry seems to have come to the fore. There is a definite tea flavour, but it’s not the slightly bitter dust I’ve come to expect. It’s a delicate, almost floral note that is actually quite delicious. I like that this isn’t overwhelmingly fruity, because some of the other Davids whites that have come out over the summer seem like a bit of a waste of such expensive tea.

So, the final verdict? I like it. Not my favourite, but maybe if Blazing Strawberries never comes back, this could take it’s place in the rotation.

So the first time I had this tea, I obviously steeped it for waaay too long. My friend’s mom just gave me a little bag of it to take home so I had no idea and steeped it for about 2 minutes, which I thought would be fine for a white tea.
So today I am sick and I felt like drinking the rest. I consulted www.steep.it and it reccomends 30 seconds for white tea. Oh!
haha So I gave it a steep and it is sooo much better this time.
That said, it’s still not my kind of tea. I like strong, unique flavours rather than floraly or jasmine type teas.

But hey, it’s warm, it’s calming, and it has a very lovely strawberry smell, so although there are a lot of distasteful reviews, I think this tea will be perfect for some people! Just not for me :)

Wow. At first I wasn’t sure about this tea, but then by the time I finished the cup I was in love with it.
The needles, when dry, are fuzzy and white. Among these shoots are small bits of dried strawberry. Together, these two ingredients marry each other to create an intoxicating scent, flavour, and overall experience.
I added some sugar to draw the flavour out. I find it helps when trying to suss out the various notes and such. Maybe next time I’ll add less. Even still, every sip was a mouthful of delicate liquid strawberry-slightly tart and sweet all at once- topped with a slight floral taste. (however, that could be me getting confused by the scent)
While swallowing, I taste the flowers a bit more, followed by a pleasant but light bitterness with a sweet top note in the back of my throat. The finish is my favourite part.
Another thing I noticed was that it makes my mouth rather dry. Too bad, because I am rather enjoying the high from having just had a delicious cup of tea. Washing it all away with a glass of water seems such a shame.
It probably helps that I actually kept an eye on the clock this time and steeped it for the recommended time (5-6 min, I forgot to use the timer) and tried my best to add the 92 degree water- my kettle is of the simple variety.
Oh and I tried a touch of this tea with milk. I was surprised to find that I actually prefer it without.
I wonder how this compares to Tea Emporium’s Strawberry Shortcake…. I’ve had my eye on that one for a long while. *sighs
In any case, if I ever run out of all my teas, I shall certainly buy this one again! (I have so many, because I want to try them ALL. I refuse to buy the same one again until that day has come :) It makes me sad that I have only a ten gram sample of this one…
This tea gets an exceptionally high rating from me because I don’t know why but I’ve been inspired lately to find teas from every category that I enjoy, and to figure out why I dislike some and not others. I’ve had trouble finding a “floral” tea that I actually enjoy. Jasmine is usually too much for me, but the hint of that I see in this tea works really well. I think it’s because the flower part takes a back seat to the strawberry.
That is all!

White tea love!!!
First time in ages… I’m drinking a cup of white tea and lurrrvin it. Now, I can’t decide if I love it 97 points worth, but I can’t bear to change the rating because this was my first tea luv.
It’s funny, for the longest time after I started disliking teas I refused to delve into this one again for fear that I’d end up hating this, and I really, reallllly did not want to hate this one. I would rather remember a tea fondly and never have it again, than try it one day and all of a sudden think it akin to bathwater.
But then today, I don’t know what came over me. I just had to have this!! Oh wait, I know why… it’s because DT is “revamping” this and I needed to see if it’d be worth scouting out some more before they ruin it (heh, I’m not jaded at all am I?!)
I’ve noticed that the quality of leaf and flavouring they use has declined of late, and so my gut feeling says that whatever they do to this tea, it will never be the same :(
Talk about a bittersweet moment!

Ok so drinking tea while I have the flu is just not as fun. I should know this by now… having commented on it in each post since Thursday, ugh!!!
Whatever. This is still a good tea (see my earlier review) but it’s simply less flavourful, darn those dampened flavour receptors.
Oh well, the next time it will rock my world :)

This is great Iced. Nice light fruity tea that is perfect for summer – or a day pretending it is summer.
