Some Velvet Morning

Green Tea by DAVIDsTEA

For the morning after
We’ve got the detox remedy for your wild night out. This green tea blend contains schizandra berries, which are reputed to protect and heal the liver while boosting energy levels. It also features dandelion root, another traditional remedy for liver damage. Plus there’s a kick of tangerine, lemongrass and orange peel to freshen you up and make the medicine go down easy.

Too much tripel…there is such a thing.

Stomach hurts. Head’s ok. STOMACH HURTS (but that’s also thanks to other monthly events thanks so much body! u rule) and I am so thankful for Reasoned_Melody sending me some of this.

It is pretty bitter but a cup of this and a great big nap later, all I’ve got is a giant headache and I know that’s just from being dehydrated. YAY.

I’d like to try Detox now too I think, sounds more up my alley.

On the plus side I bet the bitter orange peel taste goes away if you sweeten it a little but I just wanted to stop being nauseous so badly. And it’s not like some other ~medicinal types where it tastes like a spice cabinet.

1.5 tsp for 400mL water @ 82C, steeped two minues.

This blend smelled so seductive.

And it’s not fair that I am trying this one after a really good gyokuro.

I want to like this one. It sounds so damn healthy.

But sweet adorable citrus pith, this is BITTER. Bitter, bitter, pill-dissolved-in-your-mouth bitter. And unpredicatably so: some sips are just slightly bitter, others make me scowl. I rarely sweeten teas or tisanes, but I’m gonna have to here.

I am guessing the dandelion root and orange peel are riding roughshod.

Can’t rate this fairly til I try it sweetened.

So, who had lots of fun at their NYE party last night? You guessed it. And now I have a mild hangover as a result. Nothing too terrible, mostly a bit of stomach blah, but definitely not something I wanted my normal morning black tea on. I was casting about, trying to decide what to have, and I remembered that Some Velvet Morning was somewhat of an after-party sort of tea. So here were are, together again. It actually is perfect for this morning, unassuming and gentle. I taste the citrus, and don’t have any idea what shizandra berries are supposed to taste like, so I don’t know if I’m tasting them or not. My stomach is thanking me for not subjecting it to Captain Assam. I’m glad David’s sent me this by mistake, I don’t think I’d have tried it otherwise.

This one, my friend, can be classed as a disappointment. The beau and I were interested in it for a long time, but always seemed to get something else instead. Last weekend I took the plunge and got some…For some reason, I remember having a chat with a sales clerk nearly a year ago, and they said it was similar to detox. Well, I love DT’s detox, so I was excited.

Unfortunately, that was a lie! This tea is very mild and meek, with only an orange peel flavour being discernible for me. It reminds me of Kyoto Cosmo, but with less powerful flavours. There is also another David’s Tea I’ve had that reminds me of Kyoto Cosmo, but I can’t remember which anymore. Anyway, David’s Tea, step up your game!

Yeah, it’s bitter. Medicine is bitter though, right? I’m certainly not drinking this for pleasure, as I got it more for the detox properties, thus it is a medicinal tea for me. Not sure what I think on this one yet, but I only got 10g, so no big investment. We’ll see…

This tea is smoky to start, and it slowly develops into the bitterness of the dandelion root with some citrus in the background. Maybe that does not sound like a delicious description, but I put it into the “healthy” category of teas. For me there are foods that I eat because they are scrumptious like rice crispy squares and foods that I eat because they are healthy, like carrot juice. Carrot juice is delicious to me, but in the healthy way, and it makes me feel really energized to drink it.

This tea is more like carrot juice. It is not rich, sweet and and “I am in love!” like a rice crispy square, but it feels healthy and energizing to drink. It feels good when I have had a bit too much salt, or my body feels “blah”. I drink this, then mulberry-leaf tea some afternoons and I just feel so full of well-being that it is ridiculous!

I don’t usually buy flavoured tea. I don’t know why this one caught my fancy – the dry leaves smell like chewable vitamin C tablets. Fortunately it doesn’t taste that way! I think it’s a little too herbal for me – I prefer my tea to taste like tea. Still, pleasant.

Gah, without realizing it, my kettle heated the water too much, so my first cup of this was definitely burnt. Greens, why you so delicate?

Determined since I liked what was under the burnt taste, I tried again. And this time I definitely got the brew right. It’s an interesting tea, and I loved the smell of it as I pulled the infuser and the first sips.

I’m halfway through the glass now, though, and I’m starting to get that feeling in my mouth from chewable vitamins, and that horrid fake orange taste. The tea itself is still nice, but my mouth seems to be rebelling against it. I’m going to rate it based on the tea flavour, but those unsure, beware if you don’t like a dryer mouth!

I was intrigued by this tea from the get-go. A tea that cures hangovers, thus bridging the gap of evening and morning? Sounded like a match made in heaven. The guy at davids told me that this is a wonderful remedy, being that most of the ingredients are said to have a calming effect. I wish I had discovered this long ago, as I don’t find myself in need of such a miracle as of late.

That being said, I decided to try this as I hopefully kick the last of this cold I’ve had this past week. I have to admit, it’s true to it’s name. Though the flavor palette is mostly citrus and green tea it has hues of deeper flavors. Most importantly, it’s mild and appeasing, and nothing that would rock the boat if your system was in recovery mode. Being that I usually start my mornings with flavored black teas, this is a welcome change-up. I could see it doing wonders in a more fragile state. I can’t wait to test it out next time after I go out.

The description of this tea seemed like it would be one I would love… well how wrong was I. This tea.. tastes terrible. So disappointed. Tangerines I believed should taste like oranges right? Well it is supposed to taste of tangerines, orange peel, and lemongrass like which is all citrus. I doesn’t taste anything like it, something more of lemon, but herbal and bitter? and gingery? I can’t describe it, but it tastes like medicine. I think those berries inside taste really funky too. Anyways I’m pretty sure this isn’t the best hangover cure, I certainly wouldn’t use it as such! (Drink water and eat some vitamins I would advise, works best I find)

I read the description of this and thought “hmm…” and then I went to the store to smell it and went “huh.” After all the humming and haahing, I decided to try it.

It smells very different from how it tastes. I actually love the taste of it. It has a slight bitterness to it, but somehow, it works! The tea is a bit herbally, like a tisane. It does taste “healthy”, but I feel like this is the healthy tea that’s everything The Skinny should have been. And I also feel like you either like one or the other (between this and The Skinny).

Let’s just say, I didn’t like the Skinny, so I found this to be delightful.

yesss this one makes up for ‘detox’, it tastes way less medicinal, much better.
this will be my go-to detox tea for now i think!
it’s pretty light, with some nice clean flavours.

It was a fairly nice tea to detox with, especially since I can’t find any stinkin’ Detox.

Had it iced with a little agave. Not my favourite of the greens, but not unpleasant.

I love this tea. It’s one of my favourites from DavidsTea that I’ve tried so far :)

Love the green tea flavour, light, not overbearing. The finish is a little bitter, but in a pleasant way, if that makes any sense, probably from the dandelion in it. I also love the orange and the tangerine. It balances out the bitterness and gives the tea a really refreshing “feel”.

I steep the tea in water that is probably a little too hot for a green, but it doesn’t seem to negatively impact the final product in any obvious way. At least, not in any way my relatively-new-to-tea palate can detect :p

Overall, a really nice tea. A great tea for starting off your day. :)

The first DavidsTea I ever bought. Smells wonderful. The aroma is pungent, like oranges and trees. Must be the schizandra berries and tangerine/citrus. Tastes pretty good too, but I like this one for inhaling while drinking. This one will always have a special place in my heart. One of my favourites.

Tastes like sweet tangerine green tea! I steeped it for 2 minutes (after letting the water cool from boiling for 5 minutes to obtain 80 degrees – which is what green tea should be brewed at!)then added a little milk (1%). YUMMY!

I like how it tastes :S dont understand all the aweful reviews! I’m just gunna go ahead and assume they poured boiling water over the leaves and burnt it. Hence the gross taste. :) Know the correct temperature people!!

If you like green tea I suggest you should give this one a go!

Green tea with tangerine, schizandra berries, orange, dandelion. The taste is fairly nondescript, but omg, is this ever good when you’re feeling, um, unwell after a bit of overindulgence. Maybe it’s just the power of suggestion, but hey, whatever works.

Green tea fave from David’s Tea. Soo comforting. Supposed to be a “hangover” tea but I drink it all the time… or maybe I’m just hungover all the time.

First, let me share something with you – I LOVE wine. As much as I love tea, to be precise. So hubby and I decided to make our own “on premise” wine. It turned out ah-may-zing!!! No more trips to the LCBO for us to buy wine. It’s way less expensive to make your own, its fun and you come out with a bottle comparable to a $15-$20 dollar bottle at the LCBO.

So now I sip on some of Davids Tea Some Velvet Morning. My liver will thank me I’m sure. I find this one bitter. So I have to add a sweetener to make it right. I’m going to blame the orange peel for that. But it is my go to “detox” the morning after. I have heard good things about dandelion root for liver cleanses. This tea settles my stomach, gives me energy and hydrates. I’m sure there are better teas out there for this kind of thing, but for now I will stick to this one.

Funny – we did not wake up with massive hangovers this morning :) Yet another reason to stick to the homemade wine!

Needed this one this morning :) This time I added some agave syrup and that seemed to improve the taste for me.
