From DAVIDsTEA

It’s all about the leaf

Looking for a taste of Canada? Try this red rooibos tea. It’s sweetened with (what else?) maple syrup and sprinkled with delicious maple leaf candies. Plus it’s 100% diplomatic (well, caffeine-free) and tastes great in both our official languages. With green rooibos, honeybush, caramel and toffee bits to shake things up. A truly authentic Canadian experience.

Ingredients: South African green and red rooibos, honeybush, caramel bits, toffee bits, candy leaves, artificial and natural flavouring*.

Allergens: Soy, dairy and tree nuts

I love the smell of this tea (and so does everyone in my office, haha), but the taste is hit and miss for me, depending on how much I steep it. I guess I haven’t found the perfect length yet!

So this time I used a davids perfect tea cup and added a bit of rock sugar and it tasted so much better then last time. I could actually make out the maple.

Smells more like maple syrup than it tastes, thankfully. I taste the caramel and toffee bits the most, not a bad blend overall.

Delicious! Added a bit of milk and sugar and suddenly I’m feeling very patriotic. :D I don’t think I would get this again, since it tastes a lot like a few other teas in my cupboard, but it was delicious and a nice treat.

Love this tea, maple flavor without being too sweet and has a light taste. No caffeine, so great for the evenings

So I see that some tasters have noticed variations in quality between batches of this, which would explain my experience with this tea. I was looking forward to drinking this. Between the strong maple syrup smell, apt name, cute maple leaf candies, I was ready to love this tea. It just wasn’t meant to be.

I was hugely disappointed with what turned out to be a very weak rooibos with a hint of maple – a tiny hint. At 5 minutes it was weak but drinkable, at 7 minutes it gained an unpleasant aftertaste and was a bit chemical. Adding actual maple syrup to sweeten it only seemed to emphasize the weird off-ness of the drink. I’m really hoping that I can try this again and have a better experience.

Sadly my 100g of this tea have very few sprinkles and even less chunks of caramel bits. The maple flavor was ok, but much better when I added maple sugar. I’m Canadian and I love maple so this tea works well for me.

This tea is PHENOMINAL. It tastes like candy/dessert tea but yet it comes across so smooth. I highly recommend this because my cup of tea couldn’t last long enough. GOBBLED it up in a matter of minutes. Add a touch of honey and you have yourself a sweet yet flavourful tea. This one has my recommendation.. Enjoy!

I find this one needs to steep for a good long time before the maple is readily apparent, but, in that it’s a rooibos, there’s no reason to worry about that. It’s sweet, but I don’t feel like I’ve got diabetes after I finish a cup (yeah, I’m lookin’ at you, Red Velvet), so that’s ideal.

I wanted to try the Oh Canada tea today because I love maple and I’m hoping this tea tastes great so I have one more reason to be a proud Canadian!

Hot tea: It was simply delicious from first to last drop! I found it to be a much subtler sweetness than the orange blossom tea. And I love maple so much :) I might try it with some sugar and milk next time to bring out the maple flavour even more, I don’t think it would be too sweet.
