Spearmint (organic)

Herbal Tea by DAVIDsTEA

Mojito Magic

The deep green leaves of this fresh-tasting herb grow in pointy spearhead formations. Perhaps this is what makes spearmint such a tried-and-true weapon against adversaries like headaches, tension, nausea and stomachaches. It might also explain why it’s such a sharp base for tea mojitos. Just add a tablespoon of lime, a shot of rum and a little sugar or agave to your cup. Serve hot or chilled.

Ingredients: Organic spearmint leaves from Oregon and Washington State, USA.

The hubby and I went to Costco when we were hungry – big mistake! We rarely eat junk food but today we ended up coming home with a bbq chicken pizza, and a bag of frozen French fries the size of a toddler. I had originally selected a salad, but hubby found the fries on sale, and we just can’t pass up a deal. So when we got home I baked the pizza and a good portion of the fries and we ate too much while watching a less than mediocre movie. So surprise, surprise, my tummy is fighting back.

Grabbing my spearmint tea was instinctual, in fact I wonder if I subconsciously intended to sabotage myself into needing to try this tea, I mean, I bought it less than a week ago, and it’s the last herbal tea remaining in my untried stash…coincidence?…hmmmm…

This tea is minty and refreshing with an enjoyable natural sweetness. When I drink this tea it feels like a light shower for my insides, no, wait…that sounds creepy. How about, my intestines are smiling? …nope still creepy… Well whatever, just take my word that it’s a welcome feeling after eating too much junk food. The tea tasted lovely hot, and now that it’s cooled I’m still loving it. ahhh…feeling better already!

I rarely drink alcohol, but my Dad made Irish Cream, so I had to try some last night. I asked for a teeny tiny taste and he obliged by putting a bit in the smallest glass he had. The cup was probably only big enough to contain a few mouthfuls. Apparently it was still too much for me. By time I reached the bottom of the glass, I was tipsy. My hubby got me home with minimal incident other than me laughing non-stop at nothing in particular. When I got home I grabbed this tea to help ease the inevitable stomach ickiness I get from alcohol. Unfortunately I didn’t escape without any discomfort, but thankfully it didn’t last too long. I’m not sure if this tea actually did anything to help the situation, but I’m sure it didn’t make things any worse. It’s minty and soothing with a natural sweetness and unlike my Dad’s delicious Irish Cream, it doesn’t make me tipsy.

I am not feeling well tonight. While heading home from school/work, I decided to pick up some thai food for supper, which was great; I got home and watched an episode of New Girl while eating my delicious food. However, when I went onto Steepster right after, I was having trouble reading/focussing on the words, and noticed my vision had weird wavy lines in it. They lasted long enough (~25min) to freak me out a tad, and make me somewhat dizzy, but thankfully they did go away (but not before I panicked about having a stroke/brain tumour – I should mention that I was diagnosed with a blood clot in my leg in January, which I initially thought was a charlie horse, so am now hyper-alert about medical issues). Anyways, I am left feeling tired, a little headachy, and a lot pouty. And I have work to do for tomorrow, but no motivation or energy to do it.

SO. In addition to a few re-steeps, I thought spearmint would be a good choice.

The dry tea smells like potent spearmint. Gum, candies, anything. Delicious. Steeped, still spearminty, but more dilute.

Taste-wise it is definitely spearminty (not pepperminty), and it’s good. A bit chloriney though, which is the problem I have with peppermint. I do wish it was a touch stronger; I will add more leaf next time. I think this would be lovely as a latte, or added to a matcha latte. Spearmint matcha latte? Vanilla spearmint matcha latte?

My one irritation is all the leaf bits floating in my cup though. Wish the tea was less crumbly.

After a weekend of camping, eating junk food, and not drinking any good teas, I look forward to drinking good tea again! I thought mint would be a good choice to settle my junk food stomach.

This tea dry really reminds me of mouthwash. Steeped, it isn’t as much as toothpaste or mouthwash, but still a little bit. Otherwise, it is sweet, minty goodness. I really like mint as a flavour, so for me, this is a great bedtime tea.

Maybe try mixing with peppermint.

A couple of years ago, I ordered a mint tea in a Thai restaurant. To my enchantment, the waiter brought a glass full of fresh spearmint and poured hot water directly on the leaves.

The leaves being still attached to the stem, you don’t have to remove them, you just drink and watch those big vibrant green leaves twirl in the water. But the most amazing thing is the taste. Never had I tasted a mint tea so sweet in my life. That summer, I started growing my own spearmint. Iced or hot, that’s the only way I now drink my mint tea in the summer.

For the rest of the year, as a mint lover, I do enjoy pretty much any dry tea with mint in it.
However, I could never find that sweet fresh spearmint taste in any of the dry teas I have tried. But his one from DT is by far the closest! What a treat, I tell you, all mint lovers, you MUST get some-o-that!

And must I say, its angel breath benefits make it the perfect Valentine’s tea!

Love, love, love

Well my stomach is not a happy camper tonight. So I opted for some spearmint tea. This is a lovely variation to peppermint. Much gentler on the nose with an inherent sweetness not found in peppermint.

Hopefully this will work some magic and I can go back asleep.

Well apparently my Guayusa and The Killer’s Vanilla mix didn’t do the trick. I was feeling better for a short time, but evidently I just angered it because the stomach pain is back with a vengeance. All I want to do is finish up this assignment and go to bed. Gah. My stomach is not making that an easy task.

This tea is always my go-to for stomach issues. I cannot drink minty teas any other time. Even the scent is giving me hope that I will feel better once I get that first sip. I haven’t tried David’s Peppermint Amour because the scent alone of that one dry nearly took me out. This one has a lovely inherent sweetness.

Update: The second steep of this was also lovely this morning. Not nearly as powerful in the scent, but still lots of flavour in the taste.

I had a miserable tummy ache last night at my mom’s show, so I took a little teabag full of this (with a tiny bit of peppermint tossed in). I had three cups, and it was delicious.

I don’t know if it made me feel any better, but it certainly tasted good, and made my painful evening much more enjoyable.

This is a perfect after lunch tea.
Super refreshing, I LOVE spearmint! Especially compared to other mints. The natural sweetness just makes my tastebuds sing.

Just the thing I needed at work after my sick day yesterday.

Found myself sick to the stomach this afternoon and curled up with a big cup of this. Nausea is gone and now I have a new love: this tea. I can’t even begin to describe how yummy it is, how it managed to almost be creamy….mmm. My wife (De) is clearly delusional in her dislike of this tea, but that’s okay…it means more for me!

Sick. Again. Arg, winter, go away. I have my favorite teapot (my elephant!) filled with my favorite tea (Spearmint!) and I’m good to go. Nothing lifts my spirits like this simple tea.

Blegh. I made a pot of this last night and let it chill overnight. I poured myself a big glass after running around crazily all day and it is not as satisfying as I want it to be. I’ve found that after a few hours, spearmint gets kinda weird tasting…does anyone else notice this?

Still my one true love hot, though!

After today’s awful tea experiments, I needed something I knew I loved, and this is what I reached for. Pure, simple, and amazing.

This is my second time trying to resteep it and the second time it hasn’t worked. Sad. Am I missing something? Has anyone else successfully resteeped this? I love this tea so much, I want to make it last forever.

A perennial favourite, I’ve just enough time to finish this mug of deliicous spearmint tea before work is over. The name says it all – There are no other ingredients and there is no confusing the taste. I’ve finally come to understand that non-mint nuts are afraid of mint teas tasting like toothpaste – no danger of that here. Just a delicious warm, fragrant mint tea. Makes me nostalgiac for the field of mint that grew beside the driveway of my ‘childhood home’.

It’s been a crazy week at work, with everyone dropping like flies. 2 people essential to our flow are out sick today…and I, as always, am in sick! :)

Covering for switchboard for the second afternoon n the row (I like overtime, but I really just want to go home ON TIME!). So, big mug o’ mint to get me through the afternoon. Good for my throat, too!

I’ve got a headache from the small troubles of life (and too little sleep, thank to my neighbours’ decision to play very loud music with a great deal of bass, not thinking or caring that their living room shares a wall with my bedroom. So far it’s a one off, but if it happens tonight…)

SO! I’m drinking a big mug of hot chocolate, with a T-Sac of Spearmint thrown in. Delish.

Yum. Having this tea in one of my favourite treats – a nice big mug of hot chocolate, with the mint tea kicking it up a notch.

Had a big mug of this during the afternoon. Lovely and refreshing. Always delicious.

Enjoying my spearmint lava lamp, paired with a mint aero bar. Parfait!

dancing around with tea in hand

Filled up the travel mug with a big spoon of this. I love watching mint teas steep, the little pieces floating up and down like a trippy tea lava lamp. My only complaint is that the water at my work is never hot enough. Can’t wait to switch positions and locations, then be able to BOIL WATER!! YAY!

Love love love. Since I had my giant travel mug with me, I figured I’d pop some spearmint in there and save myself a T-Sac. Now I’ve got a big mug of steamy love to wile away the afternoon with.

Wanted a nice warm (but cooling!) mint tea this morning after arriving at work. My breakfast tea (apple) didn’t come out as nice as I’d hoped so I went for ol’ faithful. As always, this tea didn’t disappoint. I wish the water had been hotter but when you sit at reception they don’t let you toddle off to boil water, so I make do with what’s available.

Delish!

Had a nice amount of this in a travel mug of hot chocolate this afternoon. I love the minty kick, especially when Schnapps isn’t an option. Yum!

It was last May at West Edmonton Mall when I first tried this tea. I had eaten something rather spicy at one of the restaurants on Bourbon Street. My stomach wasn’t exactly happy to say the least after that but after arriving to David’s I ordered one cup of this Spearmint tea it more than helped. The cooling effects of the mint as well as the medicinal notes settled the aches and I was able to go on with the rest of the day. Refreshed and re-energized.

Day 65 of my 101 days of DAVIDsTEA challenge. More backlog catchup!!

I found that this had a… rounder, sweeter flavour than the mint did. In something like chewing gum, I might prefer it. However, in tea, I much prefer the straightforwardness of the regular mint.

I oversteeped it the first time, which brought this out more. However, I still got it a second time around (new leaves) with a much shorter steep, though to a lesser extent. Short steeps help, but I still prefer the peppermint amour.

My mom loves mojito and mint teas, and she likes both of these as well. I’m slowly beginning to understand her tea preferences, even if my own seem much broader! (My tea selection has long-surpassed hers to the point that I’m storing most of it in my room to not clog the kitchen. …eep?)

I bought this tea as it smelled so good in the container at the store. It smelled just like Wrigley’s spearmint gum, like when you used to be able to get an actual stick of gum!
However, I was disappointed as it does not taste as good as it smells. The tea does not retain the strong, distinct, spearmint flavour after it is brewed. It is still a good tea but I find it to be very weak and becomes bitter if steeped for too long.
On a side note, it tastes delicious when blendind with formosa gunpowder green tea.
I will use up my supply but not purchase this tea again.

I decided to make this one as a cold brew. I brewed if for about 12 hours. It tasted really good. With a moderate spearmint taste but not too strong. I decided it needed just a bit of sugar. I am not sure what happened but there is way too much sugar in it now. It tastes just like Wrigleys spearmint gum. Which is delicious for about the first sip but then a bit too much for a whole glass. And I have 64 oz of it. I would hate to dump it. Will try to add more water but I am disappointed in my performance on this one.

This has a great smell and a nice, crisp taste of mint. I prefer DT’s Peppermint, but the Spearmint is still a great tea. I think I’ll try combining the two.

I used it in a mojito, so I have not had it straight up. Will edit my rating when I try it alone

I love mint, but haven’t tried any mint teas other than the generic tetley brand, but this one is fantastic! The dry tea smells like spearmint gum, which I love, then steeped it definitely tastes spearminty but not overwhelming or bitter. I’ve heard people say it’s good iced too, but when I tried it I wasn’t a fan, but I think I steeped it too long and too strong haha, definitely a good tea though, excellent for when you’re not feeling well, as everyone knows, mint is good for stomach aches! :P

Finally, a David’s Tea that I like. But then, I am a hardcore mint fan. They’d really have to screw up a mint tea for me not to like it (like add lemongrass & lemon verbana ahem Tazo Zen ahem). Not as amazing as my own home-grown mint, but still, quite drinkable.

I love this tea. I think I actually prefer this tea to peppermint, which is surprising for me ‘cause I LOVE peppermint.
I find this tea to be smoother in taste, where as peppermint is a bit more of a punch of flavour. I think I’ll always keep this in the house. It’s great too if you just want something to relax with and to calm ya down after a long day at work. I could see it working really well if ya have a sore throat too, or not feeling well.

Whenever I get an upset stomach drinking this tea is minty without being overpowering and provides the minty powers of settling an upset stomach! It really works and is an enjoyable way of making yourself feel better instead of popping pills!

Accidentally made myself sick by drinking too much green tea in rapid succession, and all my peppermint is at work, so I made a cup of the spearmint. Not really a fan. If it helps my stomach I’ll finish the cup, but not going for a resteep.
