Jessie's Tea

Rooibos Tea by DAVIDsTEA

Worth singing about
We’ll never forget the day Jessie Farrell came into our store looking for lavender tea. The red-headed country star was on a quest. She wanted something comforting, energizing and antioxidant-filled that she could drink all day long. Together, we came up with this pretty blend of lavender, rooibos, coconut and cornflowers. Try it. You’ll understand why she wrote a song about it.

Confused. I could neither taste nor smell the lavender, though I did see it. A very minty and woody rooibos. Not for me,

1 TB for 450mL water, bare.

Received as a sample in a recent order …

Just not for me. Dang, I really want to like this one. But: NO discernible lavender scent or taste, and really minty rooibos. Overall, this tisane tastes to me like toothpaste that’s been rubbed up against old damp wood.

And I can’t get the scent out of my silicone travel-mug cover. I understand toothpaste may help …

If you like that odd minty quality some red roobios has, you’ll liely enjoy this blend. I wish I did, because rooibos and lavender is a potent and insanely healthy combo.

Predominant notes of lavender, sweet honey, and a hint of coconut. I was surprised to find myself nodding off after drinking a mug of this tea.

Just received a sample of this tea. After 1 cup I am now convinced I need unlimited amounts of this at all times. Absolutely delicious and creamy! 1.5 tsp lasted two big mugs, with lavender being more prominent in the second cup. I’m sure it could have gone for a third if I had the time.

This is an interestingly oddball tea. (Not odd in a bad way;))

I just read a few reviews of this tea while drinking it and thinking out what I wanted to say.

It’s interesting how many people mentioned the minty taste to this tea despite there being no mint. I guess it could be the lavender, but I’ve never come across lavender that tastes minty. Maybe it’s the combination of flavors? It is really faint, like a slight coolness at the end of the sip. Kind of like if some mint wound up by accident in your cup.

Would I get this tea again? Hmm. Not opposed to it. It’s not a wowzer of a tea, subtle. But it has surprising depths. The directions said 208, but my kettle has only 6 buttons, the 2 closest were 200 and 212. Next time I would like to try it at 212, just to see if anything jumps out.

Today’s tea of the day at my local Davids was Rooibos de Provence. And in sampling that tea, I was like this is Jessie’s tea, but not as good!

So here we are, Sunday night, Once Upon a Time is on TV, and I am obviously going to dip into my Jessie’s Tea bag for my after dinner cup. I love the coconut and lavender together, it has just the right blend of sweetness and I want to say mintyness to be delicious.

I tried this tea as the sample (tea of the day) in the store. It was really good- and I wanted more, so I bought 100 grams of it.
I then made a cup of it iced when I got home and it tasted the same- but for some odd reason I didn’t like it. I guess it was just in that moment that I liked it.
So, it is not a bad tea- I would be okay having maybe a 15gram bag, but I really don’t want a 100g tin. I will be returning this- maybe just for a gift card, or whatever the store policy is.
This is an okay tea- and I would suggest it if you like lavender- but for me that is really all you taste and it is a bit overpowering. So, in conclusion, it is a good tea, but not good enought to own 100g of. But if course that is just my opinion.
Thanks, Mac :)

I picked this one up to compare it to some other rooibos (Alpine Punch, Rooibos de Provence, Creme Caramel Rooibos) before making a decision about what to purchase – Rooibos de Provence enchanted me with its lavender, so naturally a lavender-coconut blend might be something I like, right?

The dry tea smells quite sweet and the lavender is there, but perhaps not the most prominent smell of the bunch. Reminds me of what I thought Creme Caramel would be like (while instead it smells absolutely sickeningly sweet).

While I didn’t smell a ton of lavender from the dry tea, once steeped… that’s ALL I can smell! I’m not sure how I feel about this – this was one of my concerns with trying lavender in tea, that I wasn’t sure I wanted to drink a flavour I more commonly associate with bath products. Here’s hoping it’s just the smell, and not the taste too.

Ok, first sip… tastes like lavender. And minty – maybe that’s a bit of the lavender too? I actually am not minding this flavour in my mouth like I was worried I would. Along with the lavender, I’m definitely tasting creaminess (coconut), and a bit of a caramelly sweetness, both of which show up late-sip. Interesting combination. I’m feeling a bit of scratchiness as it goes down my throat – not sure what causes this, but I get it from many teas, particularly if they’re steeped to be on the strong side (extra leaf), or oversteeped. It’s somewhat annoying and detracts from my enjoyment of the tea, but I usually just deal with it.

Aside from the scratchiness, I’m finding this to be a nice, relaxing tea. Nothing super special, but I think it would be a good drink to accompany bedtime reading. I don’t think it will be one I keep stocked, but I’m glad to have tried it! And now I know for certain that lavender does not, in fact, taste like soap in a beverage!

ETA: Second steep is pretty good. Seems that rooibos tend to have at least two flavourful steeps in them, which is excellent.

Evening caffeine-free tea. Nothing super special; not getting the creaminess today that I did previously. Oh well, won’t be a re-buy but that’s ok. Too bad I just got a sample of it in my DT order! :(

The first time I went to David’s Tea in Vieux-Québec, my friend Sophie and me taked a Jessie’s tea latté. It was SO delicious! I didn’t have the opportunity to return there, but it is for sure that I will go back and taste again this magical tea latté! Miam!

I am super curious why this one is mostly referred to as a lavender tea, when to me it is completely coconut. Since I’m not a coconut fan, I was dearly hoping for it to be more of a lavender and honeybush blend.

Out of fairness for the tea I’m not going to rate it. I’m sure it’s a lovely cup, just . . . I couldn’t do more than three sips.

“I want something relaxing, and I love florals” is what I said and this is what I got.

RIGHT ON. I am head over heels for this blend, rooibos is always a winner for me, the coconut makes it even smoother but the lavender gives it a little bit of dry-ness and some pep.

Lavender, Coconut and slightly minty is what I taste with this one. Again I’m on some weird ICED HERBAL tea rampage so this one was also iced with a tiny squeeze of agave.

I actually like it and may even add this to my cupboard!

edit: I added a tin to my cupboard, too good to pass!

This tea has become my “go to” before bed tea. I am a big fan of lavender, and personally think that you can pick it up. I would have never thought to combine coconut into the mix, but was surprised at how well it worked and how smooth this tea is. I could see how someone who is not a fan of coconut would be turned off by this tea, but it gets my vote for a great brew!

Not a fan of this, I can only say… I am not sure what effect lavender has on the tea, cos the coconut flavour and aroma overpowers everything! I don’t hate coconut but I don’t enjoy its dominance. Besides, though I do see coconut flakes in the dry leaves, the strong flavour tastes synthetic. I don’t think I will be able to finish the cup…

This is my absolute favourite tea! An odd combination that I never would have picked for myself, but a David’s employee highly recommended it so I gave it a shot. It was absolutely love at first taste. So rich and satisfying, and the smell is very relaxing. This tea is the perfect end to a stressful day!

I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts diddly diddly dee There they are standing in a row bum bum bum Big ones, small ones, all shredded in my tea! If you like creamy coconutty goodness and rooibos then you should like this tea, and the coconut is not like tanning oil either. This is the best rooibos I’ve ever had and I’ve been having quite a bit lately…yum!

This is one of my top two rooibos. I’m not a fan of rooibos unless it’s flavored and I really love this one. The sweet, creamy coconut blends so well with the red rooibos with a bit of lavender. it does seem like there is a slight hint of mint in there as others have noted. Excellent rooibos!

Day 66 of my 101 days of DAVIDsTEA challenge. Catching up on the backlog!
Eyeballed the amount – I just-under half-filled a set of tea-pincers for brewing in-cup.
Perhaps I didn’t have quite enough tea, but it honestly tasted pretty “meh” to me. It wasn’t bad by any means, but I couldn’t find anything particularly interesting about it, either.
This is something I’d like to give a second chance to at some point, but at the moment, it’s not something I’d particularly go out of my way for.

The main things in this tea are the coconut and the lavender. I love coconut in anything but not so much with lavender. In fact when it comes to flowers in general I would rather smell them than taste them. But when this is hot the coconut really comes through and there’s just a bit of lavender in the background and it’s very sweet and nice! It’s when the tea starts to cool that the lavender kind of replaces the coconut in the foreground. Unfortunately I was drinking this while playing video games with my roommate so I only got a few sips in before it cooled. Ah well, still very nice.

I was really surprised with this one. Lately all the teas that seemed to smell really good ended up not tasting that great. I can really taste the coconut in this tea and I LOVE coconut, so this tea works for me. I’m fine with the lavender…I was told that it is not a favourite amongst some and I would have to try it to see how I feel about it.

I don’t know what lavender or cornflower tastes like, but it’s not terrible in my books!

Wow, I really like this. But I’m a lavender person. I litterally make ‘’lavender lattés’’ at work. Although some have mentioned the very faint minty-ness of this lavender, I can honestly say I can taste it. It is there. Very smooth lavender and very sweet coconut. I am so buying a jar of this :D!

I usually dont like red rooibos, I don’t know if i’m getting use to the taste of red rooibos but I really liked this tea. All the flavors are well mixed together and I like the ’’creamy’’ taste of this tea. I only receive a small sample with an order i Just did on the david’s tea web site so I’ll probably order a 50g bag with my next order.

I finally decided to get a full bag of this tea! Thank god!!!

I was really surprise to like the little sample I got a while back but was always forgetting about this one when I was ordering tea. Now I don’t know what I would do without it… It’s now my comfort tea. Every time I need a tea to relax but without feeling to sleepy I reach for this one and I’m never disapointed.

I love the coconut in this tea it’s giving it a lot of creaminess which i really enjoy and the lavender mix really well with kind of balancing it and adding to the relaxing feeling.

The rooibos doesn’t taste too strong (I know I said it a couple of time but I’m really not a fan of red rooibos) and the fact that there’s a lot of anti-oxydant in it make me feel good about drinking this tea ;)

And as always I forgot my tea strainer in it for almost 15 minutes and it’s still tasting amazing!
