Jessie's Tea

Rooibos Tea by DAVIDsTEA

Worth singing about
We’ll never forget the day Jessie Farrell came into our store looking for lavender tea. The red-headed country star was on a quest. She wanted something comforting, energizing and antioxidant-filled that she could drink all day long. Together, we came up with this pretty blend of lavender, rooibos, coconut and cornflowers. Try it. You’ll understand why she wrote a song about it.

I am madly in love with this tea!!
I picked it up today from David’s Tea, and I had been looking for something with a good coconut flavour. This definitely did the trick!
I think this will be one I start drinking daily… fantastic!

Smooth and sweet. For my husband and I, this is our favorite rooibos. We love to drink this sort of tea at night, because its soothing and does not have caffeine.

This is my favorite David’s Tea staple. I come back to it again and again. Even iced, the flavor is soothing and delicious. I’m very happy with sipping on this all day. Coconut is a favorite and I’m obsessed with all things lavender. love love love.

This tea was one of my favorites from last year’s summer of $1 iced teas. I finally got around to buying the tea to try out myself.

I steeped this tea for the maximum recommended time – 7 minutes. Eep! The result was a suprisingly dark colored tea! Like, oversteeped black tea dark. The first sniff and sip of the steeped tea gave a rush of peppermint for some reason, then strong rooibos taste and then a nice creamy aftertaste from the coconut. Not bad, but not the multi-layered taste that I remember. I’m not getting much of the unique lavender flavour that I was looking for. I will have to try again and not let the tea steep so long next time – maybe the other flavours are overpowering it.

I poured the left-over tea I had in the pot over ice with a little sugar. Iced tea should be a little strong anyway – right? I definitely enjoy this tea iced! I find it refreshing and creamy and suprisingly rich.

This one is STRONG! I’m not sure if I like it that much but it is tolerable. I find that in this one, all of the flavours are competing with each other. Firstly theres the lavender which is really bold and that is paired with a rooibos base which, it itself can be strong and woody.

I bought a 50g of this on the website and I didn’t really know what to expect. Actually, I found in it a pretty comforting soft coconut taste that made me smile. Maybe it could have been a little more present, but the overall is good enough.

Like advertised, this was just what you would expect if you were going to the spa! It’s like sweet lavender! Super calming and smooth. I actually got this because of a recommendation from someone who worked at the DavidsTea store. He recommended it when I said I loved Rooibos de Provence. Great customer service, I might add! I think his name was Aaron. I mean, isn’t that what salespeople should always do? Listen to the customers favorites and recommend something new based on that information? I sometimes find they don’t really take the time to listen, but start right off throwing recommendations at you. I guess I should probably put a Tea Place rating in. Anyway, on this tea, I liked it a lot. Not sure if it outranks Rooibos de Provence, which has more complexity to it, though. I should probably try these two back-to-back.

Had this for the second time, and it’s really good. The smell is just amazing! Guess I like DavidsTea’s lavender rooibos blends!

Another TassieTeaGirl sample, thank you!

This one ended up having a bit of a soapy memory for me. It’s disappointing but I suppose it must be the lavender (I thought I’d come to terms with lavender in recent times). It was quite delicate, and I managed to override the soapy notes with just a touch of honey, which made it a much more pleasant drink for me.

I started brewing this and noticed that it smelled like what I suppose a warm bath outdoors on a breezy spring day smells like. That said, the first sip I found awful. The second and subsequent sips grew on me and now I’m comfortably sitting here enjoying something I thought I never would as lavender irritates my senses.

It’s not overpowering and there is a distinct coconut aftertaste but I’m not adverse to it at all. If I ever need a light, quiet drink I will definitely bring this out. Not enough to warrant a Tin Buy, but enough for me to keep in a small bag on my shelf for those Spring days.

Wasn’t sure what to expect, since I’m not familiar with actually drinking lavender. This is quite interesting! I’ve gotten a bit tired with my usual evening teas and this is a nice change. I don’t mind the coconut as much as I thought, and that other taste is presumably the lavender. It’s almost slightly peppery, which I usually get with the lavender scented dish soap I use.

I’ll probably keep a bit of this in my stash for when mint choc rooibos/spearmint/sweet dreams gets tiresome.

I drank it iced at Davidstea store. It was the tea of the day. Iced, I didn’t taste the lavender, only the coconut.
I liked it really much and wanted to buy 25g. The dry leaves smell lavender a lot, and a lot more than steeped.
I really love the mix of coconut and lavender. I like this tea. But I don’t know the singer Jessie. I don’t know if I miss anything or not?

Well, this one is a conundrum; reading everyone else’s reviews makes me feel like I’m not insane, at least – I cannot taste the lavender.

I got this tea as a Christmas gift from a tea friend who knows I love lavender, but I’ve put off trying to make a pot because, well, I just can’t smell it. You look at it and you can see it’s in there, but the soft (not heavy for once!) scent of coconut is there instead.

Eventually my partner ended up making a pot randomly one day, though, and I asked for a sip to try. I had a really sore throat and usually sweet teas make it worse, but I had no idea what to expect. Well, it was like a soothing touch to my sore throat – lightly sweet, but not overpoweringly so. The lavender has a soothing, calming effect, I believe, but it’s not the reason to buy this tea on its own, I believe. I don’t think I’d have bought this for myself to begin with, but now I’m eyeing it as the levels in my can slowly decline and I wonder, “Oh man, how soon will I have to replace this?!”

Definitely one for me that will probably serve me VERY well come the winter months and cold/flu season hits. It’s soothing, sweet, but light and still hold an element of fruitiness with its coconut touches!

I received a sample of Jessie’s Tea with my first ever online order from Davids Tea. In some ways, I wish I never began ordering tea online as it can be troublesome for the wallet.
With the arrival of the new teas, I was too excited to try the samples, and so I am just getting around to it now.

I was weary of trying Jessie’s Tea as I am not a huge fan of lavender as a food/drink item (I think simply because I have been exposed to way too much artificial lavender bath salts from my parents, and therefore the smell instantly reminds me of artificial lavender).
But.. due to the presence of the coconut, I decided to give it a shot!

Dry: smells like lavender. Maybe, just maybe a touch of coconut. I wish there was more coconut..
Liquor: Classic lavender taste (I find it almost slightly minty, in a flowery mint way..?). I cannot really taste the presence of coconut, except maybe a linger on the tongue. When smelling the cup after, it smells like a sweet musky/baked coconut. Pleasant.

I am on my first batch of steeps, though I am not sure this will last a second steep (or if I want it to..)

EDIT: I boosted the rating I gave as I had a cup left in my tea pot from last night from a second steep (held up well!) and decided to try some of it this morning and HOLY was it good. Very coconutty and refreshing. The lavender is in the background for sure when this is cold. Also – I noticed that the aftertaste of this tea is sweet and addictive. (I am now worried I may have found an amazing iced tea to buy in the summer..)

This was the tea that hooked me on David’s Tea. It was recommended on one of my first lunch trips when I was super stressed out at work and quickly became my go to comfort tea. It was also my first tin purchase. My boyfriend actually turned me on to drinking this with a teaspoon of honey. Really brings out the flavouring of the coconut.

The second steep definitely brings out more of the lavender and loses some of the coconut. If I’m making this for me and someone else I usually do a 30 second steep in each cup to get the flavouring and colour and then let each steep afterwards for a few more minutes.

I used 3 scoops for my tea tumbler.

Taste is mostly floral (lavender) with the presence of coconut.

The lingering after taste reminds me of marshmallows.

On the third infusion the coconut flavour really comes out.

Very nice blend cold brewed (11 hours). The coconut is at the forefront of the flavour with the lavender solidly coming out near the end of the sip. The after-taste is slightly sour, tasting of raw coconut.

I was really excited about this tea when I opened the sample packet due to the strong coconut scent. However, after pouring boiling water on the tea I could really smell the lavender and was since I hate lavender I was starting to worry how it might taste.

Sure enough, once the tea had brewed for 4 minutes I could definitely taste the lavender and the coconut seemed like a subtle backdrop. Hoping to give the coconut more of a chance to shine through I decided to let it brew for another 4 minutes and that additional brewing time definitely helped out the coconut. I still got a strong whiff of lavender when inhaling too deeply near the tea, but the creamy coconut flavor is almost enough to overlook that.

All in all, I think this is a nice relaxing tea. There is a perfect balance between the coconut and lavender in that neither one overpowers the other if the tea is given sufficient brewing time. If I could tolerate lavender I know I would love this tea due to its creamy coconut qualities. Since I have such a strong lavender bias I’ll leave my rating blank out of fairness to this tea.

I received this tea as a sample in my recent DAVIDsTea order. I never jumped on it at the store, as after smelling it, it wasn’t "wow"ing me and I voted to get more interesting teas on those shopping trips.

This is my first time drinking lavender.. I’ve had it in cookies and my oil diffuser, but not in my tea. This cup I can really taste the lavender (flavour wise… not the minty sharp like a lavender oil) and the coconut smooths it out. I’d say it is a mellow, relaxing, smooth tea. The rooibos isn’t noticed much (which I don’t mind).

In the end… it was nice to get a sample. It’s not bad, but I don’t think it’s my kind of tea, nor did it “wow” me. It’s different, but I won’t go and buy more of it.

I really loved the smell of this one but I think it is the lavender in here that I don’t like. Not sure though, maybe it is just a weird combination for me.
I will have to give it one more chance in the advent calendar sample before I make my final decision.

Mmmm. I ordered a David’s Tea 24 Days of Tea advent calendar, and when it arrived I found a little bag of three free single servings of tea! This was one of them. I was very intrigued, because the name is vague, but what was in the tin sure looked pretty! I brewed up a cup tonight, and am thoroughly impressed. I drank the mug before coming on here to find out what it actually is… but I guessed rooibos right, I guessed lavender right, and I almost guessed the coconut right! I was going to say it tastes kind of “nutty”, but now that I know it’s coconut, I can definitely taste it. I would also like to note… that I’m not always a huge fan of lavender. I’m really picky about artificial lavender scents vs. natural lavender, and even then… I am still difficult to please. But it’s subtle in this tea, and I really enjoy just the hint of lavender!

It’s warming, but not heavy. Rich but not over-powering. I had mine with a touch of agave and a bit of soymilk. I love it. I’ll definitely buy some more of it the next time I’m in the store!

This was one of the first teas I tried from Davids Tea, and looking back, I don’t even know why I bought it. I have never been a fan of lavender, and when they first took the canister down for me to smell it I thought it just smelled…weird.

When I actually tried some, it was better than it smelled, but I still wasn’t hooked. Somehow, the flavour really grew on be because this is now my number 1 tea! I always make sure I have some onhand, and when I’m having a bad day the first thing I do is brew a cup.

I don’t find the lavender taste or smell to be overwhelming, everything mixes together really well, and it is just amazing. The only negative thing I could possibly say is that some of the pieces are so small that they don’t always strain well – but that really isn’t a big deal, and it depends what I am using to make my tea.

I think I might make some now!
