From DAVIDsTEA

Yo ho ho-conut

Hot buttered rum is so delicious we want it all day long. Unfortunately, most employers frown on workplace drunkenness, so we came up with this rich and creamy alternative. Toasted coconut and vanilla beans mingle with black tea in a caramelized caress of flavours. Decadent hot or iced, it also blends perfectly with dark rum, brown sugar and a dash of milk – so go ahead and indulge your inner pirate, off the clock. (MK Kosher)

Ingredients: Organic: Fair Trade Certified Black tea, coconut flakes, vanilla beans, cornflower petals. With organic and natural flavouring*.

My first rating on steepster! I’ve been lurking for a while now but I want to join this awesome community so I thought I better start reviewing!

Okay so this is one of my first teas from DAVIDsTEA and WOW. Its really really good. I’m not sure what the temperature of the water was since I only have a cheap electric kettle but I let it boil and then opened it for like 30 seconds to cool it a bit. Anyways I didn’t taste any bitterness from the black tea, very smooth, a tad buttery and a lot of coconut. I’m not an alcohol drinker so I guess I don’t know what real rum tastes like but this reminds me of what “Butter Beer” from Harry Potter would taste like. I agree with another reviewer who said it would be perfect for a snowy cold day. I had the first cup plain, but I will have to try sugar/milk to make it creamier.

Love this tea! It has wonderful buttered rum aroma and the taste is equally delicious. The black tea taste comes through nicely and it well complimented by the extra flavor.

This tea smells FANTASTIC. But I was very underwhelmed by the flavour. All I could taste was coconut, that’s it. I’d imagine this would taste good with liquor and maybe a splash of milk, but I unfortunately did not get to try that at the store. I’m not very fond of coconut so much, so I think I won’t be purchasing this anytime soon.

This is one of my favourite flavoured teas; the flavouring ingredients don’t overpower the natural taste of the black tea itself, but add to the flavour in a fantastic way. The mouth feel is also amazingly smooth, and there is no aftertaste as with some teas.

Wow, I like this so much more as a tea latte. The flavor is mellowed out a bit by the milk and it tastes nice and smooth.

I had high hopes for this tea. At the first sip, I didn’t take the vanilla, only the butter. Probably because it was too hot. the next sips were a lot better. I expected this tea to be a lot better, but it is really good anyway!

So what can I say about this one?

It is very tasty as a latte (95/100) but mediocre as a regular tea (70/100). None of the flavors stand out or wow me. With some steamed milk (1/3 cup), however, the coconut is prominent and some vanilla as well! An odd complaint that I have is that the freshness of the tea went away really quickly, so I’m not sure of the quality of the ingredients. Might have to buy this in a tin next time.

I’ll also add that maybe I just suck at steeping tea because it tastes better when I have it in store (I’m talking about this tea). Weird!

Quite sweet, but extremely tasty! It really does taste basically like a buttered rum candy, but in tea!

Though not strong in the black tea, this is pretty decent. I added some coconut milk and a little brown sugar. I might buy a small pack (this one is a single-serving taster which I didn’t remove after brewing) of this sometime. Would brew it with more loose tea, and perhaps another bag of plain black tea.
