Buttered Rum (organic)

Black Tea by DAVIDsTEA

Yo ho ho-conut

Hot buttered rum is so delicious we want it all day long. Unfortunately, most employers frown on workplace drunkenness, so we came up with this rich and creamy alternative. Toasted coconut and vanilla beans mingle with black tea in a caramelized caress of flavours. Decadent hot or iced, it also blends perfectly with dark rum, brown sugar and a dash of milk – so go ahead and indulge your inner pirate, off the clock.

Ingredients: Black tea, coconut flakes, vanilla beans, cornflower petals. With organic and natural flavouring.

Allergens: Coconut

I did enjoy this tea, as it was a black tea, it was quite smooth.
The loose leaf had a great smell, just as it is titled “Buttered rum”
I did find I had to put a little more than 1.5 tbs, just to get a more darker and defined flavour, or else I found it was rather watered down.
The taste none the less was balanced, smooth, and relatively sweet.
It is definitely not my favourite, but it was good.

This is possibly the sexiest smelling tea I’ve ever smelled.
Can’t help but keep smelling the pouch with it’s impossibly rich notes of buttery rum and coconut.
This tea is very rich and may not be an everyday tea but on a really cold, unappealing day it is the perfect cure for drowning those winter blues without developing a drinking habit.

I received this tea as a gift and have been quite pleased with it ever since. When I first smelled it in the bag, I was met with a warm tropical coconut/vanilla smell, and on second sniff it smelled almost like pineapples! This tea is delicious on its own or with the typical black tea accompaniment of sugar and milk. It has a coconutty/caramelly taste that goes down smoothly, and I will be sure to buy a 100g tin after my supply runs out.

This tea is a true pleasant surprise! It has a rich buttery aroma when it is dry and if it is steeped just right you can mimic this flavor in your cup. I really do enjoy this tea on its own but if you have a sweet tooth add some sweetness and some milk for a creamy treat. This will become a stable in my cupboard for sure!

I was really skeptical to try this tea, as I’m not a fan of coconut. But it was truly very good! The coconut really takes a backseat and the vanilla steps in to make it very smooth. I don’t know what buttered rum is supposed to taste like, but it’s a nice warming dessert tea.

With the cold weather months approaching and the days getting shorter and shorter, I wanted a black tea that would be a good pick-me-up in the morning, but also something comforting and warmth-inducing. Buttered Rum seemed like just the thing.

First of all, the smell is intoxicating. Lots of warm vanilla and some powerful rich coconut. Such a pretty tea too, with the pretty blue cornflowers.

Once steeped, the tea is a lovely golden brown, definitely reminiscent of a nice dark rum. The smell contains much more coconut than vanilla at this point, which disappoints me a little. The first sip, however, is great. Really nice vanilla flavour, the black tea comes out nicely, and just enough coconut on the finish. Piping hot, it warms you right to the tips of your toes. The perfect thing for an early morning commute. :)

Unfortunately, as the tea cools down, the vanilla and black tea flavours seem to diminish, and a slightly soapy coconut taste begins to predominate, evoking cheap coconut rum, rather than a richer dark variety. This is definitely a brew that is meant to be drunk hot.

Overall though, a really nice tea, great for the colder months :)

No regrets with this tea. Buttery and smooth, great with milk and brown sugar. I desperately need to try this with rum…

Down to the last two cups! I’m definitely going to miss this when I run out (soon!) I’m tempted to stock up, but I have about 10 to 15 samples from Adagio in the mail, so perhaps I’ll wait to swim in 100g of Buttered Rum.

So creamy!

This is an interesting tea to be sure. The buttery part is a little to predominant for my liking here, and I don’t really taste the “rum” but I think I will try it without milk next time. Given that I like my black tea with milk, I doubt I will be purchasing this one again. It tasted a bit more tart than I would have liked as well which I found odd as that is usually a rooibos characteristic. Oh and the coconut? I could hardly taste that either. I wonder if I had tea from the bottom of a tin and got all the butter?? I’ll have to ask next time I go to David’s.
So, as it stands now, this is just an ok tea. I have so many other favourites that I have a feeling the last of this batch will go to waste- unless I add some rum. Ohhhh now there is an idea. The score for this one may be bumped once I try that!!!

I tried this with a splash of rum today. We had no sugar so I had to add some honey instead… which cut into the buttery-ness. Not that I mind, I find something off-putting about butter in my tea… However the rum (purchased in Haiti, local stuff, should have been premium grade) was stronger than I expected, and oh so very bitter!!
Overall, not the best experience.
When the honey wasn’t sweetening it up, I tried some milk as well, and it helped some… but certainly not enough to warrant replacing the sample I got from DT.
Everyone else loves this tea… why am I the only one that doesn’t seem to enjoy it???

So I’d never had buttered rum before. But last night… my neighbour made us buttered rum cake! and it was amaaaaaazing. Not at ALL like this tea. In fact, know that I know what it’s supposed to taste like, I need to lower the rating here.

This was a nice surprise!

I bought this because the description sounded interesting. I’m not much of a rum fan, but the smell of this tea was so nice that I figured I could become one. Plus, most of the times, flavoured teas don’t taste like what they’re supposed to anyway, so I really didn’t see the danger in it.

Well, apparently a) it does taste like buttered rum and b)I love it!

It has a very strong, but not overpowering coconut smell, and buttery notes that give the tea a nice creamy texture. In addition, it has a slight rummy taste to it as advertised, but of course, without the alcohol.

The tea is really pretty to look at as well, with the variations of colours and ingredients.
It is divine mixed with milk and sugar, and lovely mixed with other teas as well. I like it with some Assam or a nice Earl Grey to create a nice coconuty mix of goodness, but it is the best on its own.

I just had my last mug full yesterday, and will be needing to restock cause this is a tea that I do crave from time to time. It works nicely as a dessert tea as well.

Beautiful.

This tea sounded interesting, and there’s so many raving reviews about it that I had to give it a go.
When it’s dry I really get the vanilla more so than coconut, as well as the rum. What I like is that it’s more of the typical rum flavouring, without any bite from the alcohol.
After the water is added it gets even more smooth, with hints of butterscotch. The first time I made it, I used a bit less than 1.25 tsp with like 1 1/4 cup of water and I wanted the flavour stronger. So I made it with almost 2 tsps of tea the next time and it was perfect!
I don’t feel too bad using more tea than I usually would, because 100 grams of this fills your tin AND there’s a few cups left over in the bag.

This is definitely one of my favourite teas now! I find that the less I add to it, the better it is. Just a pinch of brown sugar and few drops of milk makes it JUST right and brings out that creamy, butteryness that others have mentioned here – simply delish.

Here we have it. The buttery rum dessert! I mean desert because the black tea is in the background with the coconut taste. Do the balance is okay? No. It’s not just okay, it’s really great!

A desert tea need to be round in the mouth and it need to smooth away the flavors more than the tea itself. It taste like a strong tisane (at the beginning), but the after taste let all the body of the black tea fly in ya mouth with a little exotic coconut flavor.

A really rich and enjoyable tea at a low price! :)

P.S. -With the milk (a little), it’s even more tasty!

I could drank this tea again and again!

This time, i’ve tried something more special, more tasty. I’ve made the regular tea, then, i’ve added some (a little) pure maple syrup. The taste was really good. After that, i’ve added a little of Haagen Dazs “Dulce de Leche”. I found the taste really awesome! But, i’ve needed something even more awesome and finally i’ve added some… Rum. GOD DAMN! What a taste! Perfectly perfect!

So, i’ve already finished my tin of this one and I need to raise my rating.

This is the first tea I offer to all my “non-tea-friends” and it impress all of them. Try it, and share the joy :)

I got this tea as a sample when I first went into the store, so whenever I think of DavidsTea I get an image of Buttered Rum.
When it’s done steeping, it’s got this medium brown colour that’s reminiscent of spiced rum. The taste doesn’t really live up to RUM; it’s more like vanilla extract in relation to vanilla bean. It’s got the same type of flavour, but it’s more like a long lost son in flavour than a duplicate. And that’s how it should be, since this is non-alcoholic… and a tea.

Taking a break from it right now but for a month straight, that’s what I drank most of the mornings… with a bit of syrup, the occasional milk, it’s a morning treat during the winter morning commute.

“where’s all the rum gone?” Asks Cap’n Jack Sparrow.

Well I can answer you that… ’tis in the DavidsTea Buttered Rum tea!

Whenever I’m not in the mood to drink actual alohol, I’ll go straight to this tea. After steeping, when you take the lid/cover off, the entire room [if not house] smells like delicious warm RUM. mmm Rummy goodness, need I say more?

And for those days I want a double dose, without actually double dosing? Ice this baby and add some delicious dark rum to it. An absolute match made in heaven!

Not only does it smell delicious but it tastes pretty darn good too. I’m not certain how to describe it, but I quite enjoy it.

This tea is an experiment for me. I’m not a big fan of coconut (I’m indifferent, really), but a HUGE fan of vanilla. Before steeping, the tea smells strongly of coconut, so I’ve been hesitant to buy it until not. But the woman at the store assured me that the coconut mellows after it’s been steeped, and that this tea is delicious is some hot milk and brown sugar.

Steeped, you can still smell the coconut, but the vanilla’s there too. It’s a sweet smell, which makes me happy. Not crazy about it plain, but a heaping spoonful of brown sugar and some milk make it quite pleasant. (Then again, brown sugar and milk will make most black teas quite pleasant.) I’d buy this again.

I tried this tonight with the “spiced butter” on the DavidsTea newsletter — two parts brown sugar, one part butter, and some cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Also a little milk. Oh, baby, this might be the tastiest drink I’ve put into my mouth in a long, long time. Perfect for a cold winter night. It tastes like what Harry Potter might drink at Honeydukes. Oh, baby. Oh, baby.

I highly recommend this tea. I tried it alone, with no milk or sugar and it was simply exquisite. The buttery after taste warms you to the core. A perfect tea for a cold wintry day.
Now I know why the store is always sold out.

It was okay. By no means did it taste bad but I like sweet teas.

Black tea mingled with coconut, vanilla, and cornflower petals. Wonderfully smooth and light.
