Buttered Rum (organic)

Black Tea by DAVIDsTEA

Yo ho ho-conut

Hot buttered rum is so delicious we want it all day long. Unfortunately, most employers frown on workplace drunkenness, so we came up with this rich and creamy alternative. Toasted coconut and vanilla beans mingle with black tea in a caramelized caress of flavours. Decadent hot or iced, it also blends perfectly with dark rum, brown sugar and a dash of milk – so go ahead and indulge your inner pirate, off the clock.

Ingredients: Black tea, coconut flakes, vanilla beans, cornflower petals. With organic and natural flavouring.

Allergens: Coconut

This was the first loose leaf tea I tried and I was instantly hooked. Reminds me of the butter rum life savers. Mmmmmm!

I absolutely love this tea. I am an avid Rum fan, and I find this tea very delicious. It is by far my favorite tea by DAVIDsTEA.

This is one of those flavored teas where I can actually taste the tea base in addition to the flavorings. (Like most teas, I drink it black/no sugar)

I can’t describe exactly what this one tastes like (coconut, something sweet & tropical, and almost butterscotch-like?), and not having had buttered rum in many years I cannot attest to the similarities… but wow, is it amazing. So very, very good.

So, I had just enough Buttered Rum left for 1 last cup. Of course I just had to try it with a splash of actual rum. This is a big deal for me, as I normally NEVER drink rum, but all in the name of science, right? Er, I mean in the name of tea :-)
It was good, but I think I prefer it without the rum. The taste of the alcohol overpowered the tea too much for my taste. But it was definitely a fun way to accomplish a sipdown!

I had a cup of this last night and it was just divine! The taste just makes you feel so cozy and warm, and the taste isn’t too sweet or too bland, nor does it taste watered down or too strong. I was able to make a second steep out of this and left it for an extra five minutes than what it calls for, it still tasted amazing! It’s such a nice tea if you want to kick-back and feel comfy. In my case, I had this cup of warm deliciousness while writing my physics lab, the tea really hit the spot and made me feel much more relaxed. Now to continue on my physics lab! ;(

Smells heavenly, but the flavor doesn’t do it for me — salty, buttery, and not much else. I never did get the “rum” undercurrent that others did. Disappointing, since I was excited to try this.

Also tried it in the David’s tea advent calendar. Love it. Want to buy some.

I’m not usually into coconut, but this sounded interesting, so I’m giving it a try.
I’m detecting the following:
pre-steep scent – coconut
Steeped scent – vanilla, coconut
Taste – coconut, vanilla, and also something that reminds me of butterscotch. Very flavorful tea.

Steeping this tea for too long takes away from the flavour. I would consider this tea a dessert tea.

Stacey: The taste isn’t as strong as the smell; I think the coconut gets lost in the black tea mix. The flavour they were going for, the buttered rum, is strongest after your sip- it sits on your tongue and sticks to your mouth. It’s a smooth tea, which is probably the vanilla coming through. It’s not a drink I would have every day but it’s a good specialty tea to sip after a brisk evening walk. 6/10.

Brooke: Agreed, what a treat! Overall, this tea has a heavy base with smooth savoury flavour. Though I don’t taste the coconut, the ingredients mixed well together to create a soft blend that reminded me of chocolate without the cocoa. It’s a very sweet tea; no sugar needed. Maybe add a drop of milk but we both drank it black. I usually like my teas a little lighter but overall it was a lovely brew. 7/10

Wow, I like this so much more as a tea latte. The flavor is mellowed out a bit by the milk and it tastes nice and smooth.

This was day one of my 24daysoftea and boy did it start off right. Such a wonderful smelling tea. I loved how rich and creamy it tasted. I had it with milk and it was perfect for the cold winter morning and is something that I will consider buying more of. I can’t wait to try it iced and as a latte.

24 Days of Tea (day 1)

I love tea…. I love Rum…. Tea… Rum…. Tea.. Rum.. Tea. Rum. I think I see a wonderful combination here… The smell was wonderful, and the taste? Very enjoyable! Not sure if I could detect the rum in the tea, but it was definitely a great cup of tea ;)

This is one that I can see trying again

I was excited to try this tea as soon as I opened it up, great smell. This tea is creamy with a buttery flavor. So good with milk and honey. Next time I’ll have to try it spiked with some rum :)

I think this tea is really true to the idea of “buttered rum,” and I appreciate it for that reason. It’s not crazy flavorful, but it’s comforting and tasty with just the right amounts of coconut and vanilla. I’ll have to try it with some brown sugar and maybe some milk for added creaminess, but it’s perfectly delicious plain and hot as well!

My first rating on steepster! I’ve been lurking for a while now but I want to join this awesome community so I thought I better start reviewing!

Okay so this is one of my first teas from DAVIDsTEA and WOW. Its really really good. I’m not sure what the temperature of the water was since I only have a cheap electric kettle but I let it boil and then opened it for like 30 seconds to cool it a bit. Anyways I didn’t taste any bitterness from the black tea, very smooth, a tad buttery and a lot of coconut. I’m not an alcohol drinker so I guess I don’t know what real rum tastes like but this reminds me of what “Butter Beer” from Harry Potter would taste like. I agree with another reviewer who said it would be perfect for a snowy cold day. I had the first cup plain, but I will have to try sugar/milk to make it creamier.
