Gail’s Cold Remedy (organic)

Green Herbal Blend by DAVIDsTEA

Relief is on the way

This tea packs a serious punch. It contains organic green tea, known to be both immune-boosting and antibacterial. Then there’s lemongrass and lemon myrtle, both of which have traditionally been used to fight colds and flu. We’ve also added ginger, which Chinese medicine has used for thousands of years to soothe runny noses and sore throats. Try adding fresh garlic if you’re really desperate.

I suppose this could be called a sipdown… I stole the last of my roommate’s pouch as… I’m sick again! Wooo. Less than two weeks after nursing a sore throat for 4 days, I have one again. Sigh. At least I don’t feel overall terrible, but sore throats are seriously the worst.

Anyways, this tea. Didn’t smell too bad (I was expecting it to be much worse), and surprisingly didn’t taste terrible (and the licorice was pretty mild, not sure I even could taste it), but there was something off about the flavour that I couldn’t place, and didn’t like. It wasn’t objectionable enough that I couldn’t finish the cup, and if I noticed that it helped I would certainly drink it again, but would never choose this as a cup of tea to enjoy. I don’t honestly know if it helped my throat a great deal; I followed it up with other sick-tea mixtures, so it’s tough to tell. I might pick up some Cold 911 (if that’s still around) to try if this thing doesn’t let up…

Backlog:
This is a delicate tea, but still potent. I definitely recommend HOT (iced was quite nasty), and when you need a lift. I’m still battling a cold and this helps, as well as eased some of my migraine last night.

It’s good when you can barely taste anything…but is that really a good thing? IDK – and I don’t know about this one. It’s decent, but I’m not sure if I would buy it again. I definitely prefer Above the Weather.

1.5 tsp for 250mL water, 82 degree water, 4-minute steep.

It helps. Any steaming hot beverage will, of course, but I did find the lemon and ginger very soothing. I could not taste the licoreice, which is fine. as I don’t care much for licorice. The tea itself started to get bitter at the 4-minute mark.

It’s hard to rate this one fairly, as I am too congested to taste properly, and as my throat’s got that fire-on-sandpaper thing going. But it did give me a little boost — I just feel a bit happier after drinking it — and who couldn’t use a little extra green tea and ginger in their diet?

Definitely worth a try when miserable, but I’d have gone for the dicontinued Electric Ginger (is that was it was called? a lemon and ginger tea from DavidsTea back in the winter) instead, if I could.

Rating: 75.

So…here it is. I ran out of Dayquil today and I was miserable. I made a cup of this and I really am feeling better…I can breathe and my throat isn’t hurting as much and I feel less like death.

That all being said, I had to treat this like medicine, I could not stand the taste. My tastebuds could be off or it could be the fact that I’ve got chicken soup, bravissimo, and this in front of me and I’m switching between the three, but I found very little pleasure in the taste.

But hey, if it makes me feel better, who cares? It just won’t be one I drink when I’m not sick. The rating is based solely on how it made me feel so much better, and has nothing to do with taste.

I bought a full tin of this tea before DAVIDsTEA came out with Cold 911 and while I never used to mind the taste, over time this one became far less appealing. While it seemed to help stave off a cold that I had coming on, drinking it multiple times a day for almost a week is not a course of action I would recommend with this tea.

It seems that the lemongrass becomes more potent with age, to the point where a friend of mine informed me that the smell alone made it seem like I was drinking Lemon Pledge instead of tea. It’s a shame that the flavour of this one isn’t one that I wish to keep coming back to since, as a cold remedy, it seems to work quite nicely.

If you’re looking for a good cold remedy and darn the taste, then by all means I recommend this one. For people less inclined to drink something that smells like Pledge I would suggest possibly giving this one a pass.

I drank this one tonight despite not being under the weather. Maybe it makes a difference, but all I got from this was lemongrass. Not that that’s a bad thing, but I’d rather just have straight lemongrass if that’s what I’m craving. I definitely prefer Cold 911, Exotica, and a few others that are in this family at David’s.

Having tried most of DavidsTeas already, and making a noble effort to try a new one everyday, AND feeling a bit under the weather, this was today’s new tea to try. I hate the smell of the leaves, and considered it utterly un-drinkable for months. But I’m proud to say that I’ve finally taken the leap and tried this tea. And I quite like it. I can’t taste anything but the ginger, but its sharp bite is great. It feels a little bit scratchy on my throat, but it is probably just because I generally don’t drink such ginger-y beverages on a normal basis. I truly can’t taste the green tea, and I can’t taste any lemon or licorice. But, I’ve been steeping it for about an hour and a half now (which might be my problem), and it still isn’t bitter, which I’ve never seen in a green tea. It’s not my favourite and I wouldn’t drink it everyday, but it’s definitely a great go-to when you’re not feeling your best.

I love lemon and ginger teas. I also love green tea. Keeping this in mind, and knowing that cold season is definitely upon us, one of the employees of DavidsTea recommended this tea to me. One whiff and I was sold. So much lemon-y goodness, between the lemongrass and lemon myrtle. The ginger smelled wonderful, and I knew it would be soothing for those scratchy-throat days. :)

Brought the little 25 g bag home and smelled it again. Just as enticing. However, I was a little apprehensive when I learned that there is licorice root in the tea. I am DEFINITELY not a licorice fan. Even fennel and sambuca are off the table for me, and they’re not even real licorice! But, since I couldn’t smell the licorice in the tea, I hoped I wouldn’t taste it once it was brewed.

Turned out that I couldn’t, which was great! (+1 for uneducated palate!) What I could taste was ginger, lovely mild green tea, and so much lemon-y awesomeness from the lemongrass and myrtle. Loved it. Felt great for my throat and left me feeling relaxed and refreshed.

Definitely repeats for me :)

To start off, I am completely biased when it comes to tasting this tea, as I am a firm Electric Lemon user when the cold season comes around.

I got it as a ‘to-go’ tea one day when I was sick and wasn’t able to get my Electric Lemon (or medicine, as I call it) at home. The tea was ok. I mean, I was completely stuffed up so couldn’t taste much, but EL still packs a punch in the most dire situations. This tea was too faint to taste. It was soothing and warm, and I could catch a faint whiff of lemon scent, but it didn’t do more than any other tea to clear me up or fight the cold blues. Other than Electric Lemon, of course.

One day I will try this again as an actually tea instead of a cold fighter!

Backlogging…

I was in Québec City over the holidays, and had completely forgot to bring any of my teas with me on the trip! (Imagine being tired enough to forget tea, that’s the state I was in…) Luckily enough, there’s a DT that I was able to go to the first day. I was really craving some Electric Lemon, so I asked the worker what lemon-ginger mixes they have Since they only have two options, I ended up taking a cup of this to go.

Weak. Mild. Inoffensive. Boring. I really do not like this tea.

I was feeling a bit stuffy and all around me, people have been getting sick— and not the ‘I don’t want to go to work’ sick, REAL sick! So, I thought I would give this tea a shot to nip any cold I may be getting in the bud.

As the cleverly written description suggested I do if desperate, I added a clove of chopped fresh garlic, so keep that in mind as you read my review.

First, I can say that it did make me feel better! I had it yesterday evening and I woke up bright-eyed and tail bushy!

As for the taste, it was definitely different, and was almost somewhere between a tea and a broth. That said, I really enjoyed it! The Lemongrass/Ginger combo was lovely and not at all overpowered by the added Ginger.

If you are super not feeling well, I would recommend this for sure! Or maybe a combination of this and some DavidsTea Detox as well.

Not a bad tea, but very much meant for drinking only when you have a cold. I tried it without one and it was lemony and rather bland. Probably nice and effective when under the weather, but definitely not an anytime tea for me.

I really dislike this tea, but I suppose it does help throat and tummy problems… if you can force yourself to swallow…

I was hit with one of those awful mutant cold viruses just as the new year approached. It got to the point where my throat was on fire, I could barely breathe and had no energy. So I mustered up all the energy I could and went with my cousin to David’s Tea to see what stuff they had for sickness. The Cold Remedy tea was recommended and my god is it delicious. I love love love ginger tea and the combination with lemon was very soothing. After drinking about 2 cups a day for 3 days, I began to feel significantly better!
