Mother's Little Helper (organic)

Herbal Tea by DAVIDsTEA

The great escape

Need a little relaxation? Try running for the shelter of this mother’s little helper. It’s got organic valerian (aka “nature’s Valium”) to take the edge off your 24/7 reality. Plus there’s chamomile, peppermint and lemongrass for an added dose of tranquility. And pretty blue cornflowers just to make you happy. One sip and you’ll feel like you’ve spent the day at a spa.

Ingredients: Organic: peppermint, lemongrass, hibiscus, rosehips, chamomile, Valerian root, cornflowers, natural peppermint flavouring.

This will be short and because I may fall asleep while I write. This tea is a bit minty with a soothing herbal flavor. It’s naturally sweet and the perfect before bed cuppa. The valerian root is a really nice calming touch.

I made a cup of this tea for my hubby because he had a rough day. He loved it and he’s yawning away now. I didn’t tell him about valerian in it because he gets fussy about certain herbs… that’s not wrong, right? It’s not the same as mashing up Prozac in his pudding, or is it? Well, ethical dilemma aside, my sweetie will get a good night’s sleep :)

4:10 am. Can’t sleep!
Would nearly kill for some of this.

Sooo for some reason I don’t have a rating on this tea when I know I have reviewed it a few times. Welp! Here’s my rating! haha

I used 1 tsp instead of my usual 2 tsps. It tastes soo much better when I’m light on the leaf – I just hope it works just as well!

The Lush hiring party went super swell, so here’s my story: I worked from 8:30-5, stayed at the mall until the hiring party at 6, took the bus home and got home at 7:30 – reached in my purse to find the keys to be.. well.. not there. So! I sat in tim horton’s for 3 hours, sipping an extra large steeped tea, thinking about how awesome my interview was and when Mike finally got home I was so wired!

Took a bath with my free Lush bubble bar, and now I’m sippin this magical tea, waiting for it to kick in because I am still so wired and happy. Come on tea, I work at 8:30 again tomorrow, help me out here!

I love this tea.

The end!

And the readings have begun. Oh studying. Thought I’d see if this minty blend would keep me awake long enough to finish this chapter.

Mm I’m tasting mint and lemon and something else I’m not familiar with. This one’s pretty yummy but I’d have to be in the mood for minty to have it.

It’s so pretty! The leaves smell deliciously herbal (descriptive, I know). There are floral elements, fruity elements, something that is almost sweet, something else that is kind of licorice like… lots of different scents but nothing that clashed.
I meant to only steep it for around 6 minutes but I think it might have been closer to 8.
I tasted it and I love it!
The hibiscus is the first undertone, then some of the minty flavors, then the floral notes. It unfolds so beautifully. I really like this tea. It is complex in the most wonderful way and it is “medicinal” without being off putting. It just smells like it is good for you, but tastes like something that my grandmother would bring out as a special treat – old world, slightly surprising, and thoroughly wonderful.
I will definitely be ordering more of this!

ETA I tried resteeping this (boiling water for 15 minutes) and got only a pale imitation of the original. It wasn’t bad, but it was a ghost. Note to self – don’t bother resteeping this!

Okay, so I didn’t expect this tea to make me sleepy. I thought it would be a chamomile, relaxing-type tea (it is), but those don’t do much for me and I don’t typically see any effects from herbs/teas/remedies I try so didn’t expect it to do much.

But, this makes me dopey! It’s amazing! I’ve tried it the past two nights when I needed to get to sleep and it pushed me over the line between lazy and drowsy, which is always my problem. The first night I thought I might just be getting tired on my own or that it was my imagination, but it helped last night too. I don’t think it would knock me out if I were well-rested, but it really seems to help put me to sleep when I would rather just stay up browsing Steepster all night. I suppose it could just be a placebo effect but it really felt like I had been sedated, which is weirdly exciting.

The taste is better than I expected. I’m not a fan of chamomile, and this is pretty chamomile, but it’s definitely manageable. I like the lemongrass, and while I’m not typically into mint, the peppermint in the background blends nicely. It’s really just an herbally concoction but if it helps put me to sleep I would drink a lot worse.

Mmmm this is one of my favourite teas! It’s so relaxing and makes me nice and sleepy. Steeped it smells tonight of lemongrass, mint and a bit of rose hips, each cup varies so much. Tastes amazing! First tastes of lemongrass and rose hips, then peppermint and chamomile. Aaahh already feeling sleepy.

DAVIDsTEA

Dry Leaf Nose: Minty with a citrus and fruity note.

Liquor: Golden yellow to light red.

Flavour: Minty and fruity with a slightly tart taste. Prominent rosehip and hibiscus notes that are balanced by the lemongrass that adds a citrusy background. Valerian root is buried in the complex character of the blend (which is good because it can have an acrid taste).

I bought this only to see if it would help me fall asleep. Friday nights I work until 10 and I have to be back at 6 on Saturday morning, so I am always looking for something to start winding down my system. Usually the only thing that works for me is beer. shrugs

In terms of taste, the valerian root makes this brew bitter when it’s lukewarm. Drink it hot and fast if you can. It’s quite minty and sour from the hibiscus as well. Truly, I won’t buy this again after I finish the 50g bag, but I can appreciate it’s calming effects. After 2 cups I start yawning a bit more (this does manage to re-steep once if you keep the first steep to ~4 mins).

Glad to have tried it. It seems to work better for some and less so for others.

(low rating is for taste)

YES! I’m finally going to write a review for this tea as I’ve bought some for me and am not mooching it from my mom :P. This tea is blissful!

Dry: the thing I love about this tea is how it always seems to change. One day it will smell really minty, the next cup more chamomile, others more floral. It’s always lovely, whatever one it smells like! Tonight it’s mostly chamomile with the mint residing in the background.

Wet smell: Again, this seems to vary depending on what’s in the leaves this time! Tonight there’s a lot of lemongrass and some hibiscus, along with that mint. Mmm, delicious!

The taste: Perfection. A lovely blend of florals with mint and a slight hint of chamomile. Getting quite a bit of hibiscuz tonight, maybe also a touch of the lemon. It’s a wee bit tart, but still delicious. I LOVE this tea!

Overall, this tea is the ultimate for before bed! I can’t wait to get an amazing sleep tonight! Been craving this since I had it at my mom’s a few weeks ago!! Finally have a massive tin of this to enjoy. I highly recommend this tea, as long as you are ok with florals and mint. Anyways, off to relax and sleep for me! :)

So, haha, if it actually is the end of the world tomorrow, at 4 am in the morning, this will be the last cup of tea I drink before it ends! Lol, a disclaimer, I don’t believe that nonsense. But anyways, this tea is smelling as delicious as always, it’s still too hot to drink at the moment, but it will be excellent :)

Talk to you steepsters another day! And if not, enjoy your last teas! Lol

So even though today was the last day of classes for this term, I still have an extensive business plan assignment due on Friday. Sigh. So since I had 2 matchas and green tea earlier, I am still full of too much alertness. So out comes this tea, so I can actually maybe sleep tonight. See previous notes on this tea :)

MLH night right now, have a terrible headache. Curse you pressure change! See previous notes.

Having trouble sleeping tonight, too much on my mind and probably too much caffeine earlier. So I am waiting for this to cool then going to hopefully crash, I need to sleep so I’m not tired for class tomorrow! So hopefully good night steepster! Oh, and see previous notes on this tea!

Early happy new year! :) i had a cup of this in the morning, not sure if I’ll have anymore tea tonight, so I might as well say happy new year to all you steepsterites now! Hope that 2013 brings excellent times and teas for you all! :)

Needed this tonight so I can actually sleep, I had a 2 hr nap this afternoon so I’m not tired at all! So excited, placed my Black Friday tea orders with Verdant and Della Terras. Eeeee now just have to wait for my teas ugh I hate waiting but it will be so worth it!

Winding down my busy day with this tea. Happy I can enjoy it tonight without having to worry about everything to do tomorrow. See previous notes :)

Ah, having this again as my before bed tea. Making me nice and sleepy :) please refer to previous notes for detailed description of this one!

Enjoyed a cup of this last evening to “unwind” after putting the girls to bed…. still recovery from surgery (thank goodness my husband took off this week to be my nurse) At first I was a little concerned, (ok VERY concerned) because the cup smelled like black licorice after steeping. I hate black licorice! But when I took my first sip it was a nice mix of mint and camomile. Very enjoyable to taste, just had to get past the smell of licorice!

What a day! Having some of this right now! Needed something soothing for my stomach, since my husband and I decided to celebrate Valentine’s day by going out for a brownie sundae and fries. Used to be okay with the random, spontaneous " ice cream for dinner," but feeling pretty gross right now. We’ve been eating pretty healthy for awhile now…seems like the junk food was a shock to my system. Blah! Thank goodness for this tea! Something about the peppermint makes me feel better, even though I’m not a fan of minty teas. Added a little honey to offset the bitter valerian root and its perfect!

In other news, I made it to both Lupicia and DavidsTea today, and I bought a ton of different teas to try! I’m so excited to steep them all, so you’ll be hearing more from me. Just not until tomorrow.

My stomach seems to be on the fritz lately, and especially last night, so I had some of this to make me feel better. Works every time. I don’t understand what’s going on with my tummy… Last night I thought maybe I was getting the flu, but I haven’t had the flu in so long, I don’t even know what the first symptoms are! Anyway, I’m still surprised I like this tea, since I’ve never been a fan of peppermint. It’s like a lifesaver!

Having a lot of trouble sleeping lately, and now that it’s getting cooler in the evenings we’re trying tea to help. I agree with what others say – this really knocks you right out.

We’ve been drinking this blended with the now-discontinued Vata Ayurvedic, but we picked some more up to try just straight, and it’s a much more mellow blend than we anticipated. The flavour isn’t overwhelming, but it’s perfect for a nighttime tea. There’s also a sweet lemony flavour that gets lost in the bold spices of the ayurvedic when they’re blended. On its own, it wasn’t nearly as medicinal as I was expecting, though towards the bottom of the pot it was a bit more tart and acrid.

After the mishap with the prep of the other tea I needed something to unwind with and get ready for bed. First off I noted this smelled very minty as it steeped. So I was wondering how this was going to calm me down and get into sleep mode. Usually minty type teas help me kick start in the morning. However, with each sip (yawn), I’m finding I’m getting a little more relaxed. I am really liking the taste of the lemongrass. It blends really well with the other ingredients and making me wish I was writing this review from the comforts of my bed.

I had decided not to buy any more tea until my three orders from abroad that I’m i̶m̶p̶a̶t̶i̶e̶n̶t̶l̶y̶ excitedly waiting for arrive. But I was having some major trouble sleeping for the last couple of weeks, and after trying various things, I decided to pick up a little bit of this tea as it’s locally available, and not buy any others while I was there (that didn’t work out). The girl in the store advised steeping this one for a long time for best results, so I did.

The first part of the sip starts off tasting like your typical chamomile lemon tea, so immediately I thought, ah, I know your game. You’re just like the others, only better looking. But then it threw me for a loop; the juiciness kind of dried out and the sip ended with a slight aftertaste of spice that replaced the tartness of the lemon, which was tasty and cleared my palate before the next sip. As far as its effectiveness, for me it gives more of a body relaxation and makes my limbs feel very loose and gumby-like. It doesn’t particularly make me sleepy, but it does help me relax and unwind after a long day. It kind of feels like having a guilt-free glass of wine. I’m definitely going to go pick up more of this (and nothing else). Maybe I should stop making promises I can’t keep.

This tea is great for before bed.
Having just starting school things tend to get a bit stressful- so, I whipped up a cup of this tea.

Smell: Peppermint, lemongrass
Taste: ^
Color: Pink
I really do enjoy this tea occasionally because of the nice peppermint falvour, however, I cant see myself re-purchasing this tea, just because the taste is not very memorable IMO.
Goodnight.

EDIT- this tea is also a bit to sour for me i originally gave it a 74 but now i am reconsidering my rating….

This tea definitely makes me sleepy. Between that, and the Bikram yoga class I took a few hours ago, I am ready to crash!!
However, I am not all that impressed with the taste. It’s ALL mint and not much else… and ginger? is that the valerian? bah, I’m willing to give it another try, if I can manage to take out some of the mint… but if that doesn’t work, well I already have a peppermint tea, why do I need another just like it??
So, points for usefulness, but none for taste.

so after my vacation filled with deeeelicious but terrible (for my health!) food, I’ve been in need of some restorative teas the last few days!!! and this, well for the purposes of fixing my tummy woes, well it really did the trick.
The first time I tried it, I was evaluating for usefulness as a sleepy time tea. and now, well I think it’s more of a soother for the ill!!
The lovely girl in the shop recommended it, and we got into a conversation about the teas many uses… which then sold me on buying a cuppa and I am really glad I did.
Anyhow, my rating here is based on how effective it was in fixing me. and that when I needed it, it tasted like gold. Somehow, when I’m fiddle fit, it tastes ok but I guess that’s just cause the magic hasn’t been activated by need ;)

This is the first “real” tea I actually brought with me on a trip outta town because I couldn’t live without it for the first few days after trying it.

There is something about this tea that makes me feel like everything is going to be okay.

This would be one of the teas I would want on my person in the event of a Zombie apocalypse just for reassurance and to help me stay calm, cool and collected.

That’s how much I really love this soothing, calming, tasty and relaxing tea.

Nuff said.

So I bought this tea for my dad because he asked for “chamomile elixir” and I only later found out he meant some sort of chamomile concoction… Anyway it appears that I chose well, he quite enjoyed it and found it very relaxing!
Personally, I found it to be nothing special and didn’t really feel the effects but it was only 7pm and I typically don’t go to bed until midnight or so…
I definitely tasted the peppermint which was pleasant, and the chamomile, which I am not a huge fan of. I’ll boost this ranking based on my dad’s professed love though! I am slowly converting the family… got my sis to like North African Mint!

This does a great job at making me sleep when I have to be up early. It is so effective it is scary.
