Get lucky

One sip of #7 and you’ll find yourself head over heels. Mysteriously changed. Magically happy. Walking on air. How does it work? Frankly, we don’t know. Our blender came up with it and then just ran off with the girl of his dreams. Maybe it’s the chocolate bits that lower your inhibitions. Or the seductive strawberries. Or the romantic rose petals. Either way, this black tea is seriously lucky.

Ingredients: Chinese black tea, dark chocolate (sugar, chocolate liquor, cocoa butter, soy lecithin and vanilla), freeze-dried strawberry, red rose petals, natural and artificial flavouring*.

Allergens: Dairy and soy
Price per 50g: $7.98

This was one of the first teas I tried, and one of the first teas I really, really did not like. I picked some up again because, as I grow to better understand brewing and how to make a good cup of tea, I am retrying some of my early misses to see if I can coax something better out of the teas. In this case, I have always loved the smell of the dry leaves, but I could not get past the bitterness of the base tea.

Tonight I brewed it very carefully, paying close attention to both the water temperature and the brew time. By keeping the temperature a bit lower and the brew time a bit shorter and I got a lovely strawberry heavy, chocolate tea. The base tea is strong, but not unpleasant and I managed to keep it from being astringent. I am really glad I gave this tea another chance. I want to try it a few more times but, if it continues to turn out this pleasantly, I am going to have to bump up my rating!

I probably over steeped this? I dunno, it’s a nice black tea but not the knockout Read My Lips is. I’m not getting too much chocolate or strawberry “liquor” that others have mentioned. As a mildly fragrant, pleasant black, it will do.

Sipdown: achieved!

I must say…I think I’ve fallen out of love with this tea a bit. I now don’t find it as awesomely amazing as I used to, and don’t even actually feel the need to refill the tin. I know by the time the winter rolls around I might feel differently (for some reason this tea screams “winter” to me), but for now? I think Cherry Snowcone is going to find its way into my tin.

And if my kettle would ACTUALLY BOIL WATER, I might be able to drink this last cup. This $10 water-boiler has served its purpose for the last 2.5 years…but I think it’s time it was replaced. Sorry, kettle. It’s been nice knowing you.

Verdict: not refilling for now, but likely will in the winter months. It’s not a bad tea, but downgrading my rating for now (still a pretty high rating, though!)

I found myself head over heels. Love Tea #7 by DavidsTea is warm and comforting. Though it is more of a fall/winter tea, it is still fabulous. I’m not a fan of floral but the way it’s added just gives it the right tone and harmony with chocolate~ It smells amazing! Taste amazing! Love Tea is permanently in my cupboard. It just fits right in.

Had a friend share a sample of this with me and it is just NOT my cup of tea sadly :( I keep wanting to like chocolate based teas but I can’t bring myself to enjoy them. I will maybe try this one again in a Latte if the chance shows up but till then this is not for me.

This was not bad!

Again, enjoy my tea with sugar and milk (latte!) and it was delicious and juicy!

I also tried this out in some blueberry muffins (infused it in milk, on a stove, simmered for about 10 minutes) and oh my! Made the muffins so delicious!

My hubby, who also normally doesn’t eat blueberry things, enjoyed them so much! He asked what the secret ingredient was, and I just told him, “an aphrodisiac”. ;) Yup, just as the package says!

The dark chocolate won me over. I’m a sucker for it. It smelled warm and yummy pre-brew and tasted the same once steeped. Liked it very much
