From DAVIDsTEA

Get lucky

One sip of #7 and you’ll find yourself head over heels. Mysteriously changed. Magically happy. Walking on air. How does it work? Frankly, we don’t know. Our blender came up with it and then just ran off with the girl of his dreams. Maybe it’s the chocolate bits that lower your inhibitions. Or the seductive strawberries. Or the romantic rose petals. Either way, this black tea is seriously lucky.

Ingredients: Chinese black tea, dark chocolate (sugar, chocolate liquor, cocoa butter, soy lecithin and vanilla), freeze-dried strawberry, red rose petals, natural and artificial flavouring*.

Allergens: Dairy and soy
Price per 50g: $7.98

I love the idea of this tea. It’s chocolatey, it’s got some fruity-goodness in it… it smells like heaven, but I found myself not as happy with it as I thought I would.

I like the chocolate part, but the chocolate in Read My Lips seems a bit nicer.
I found that the rose petals didn’t work for me personally. It’s definitely not my thing.
I can appreciate this tea for what it is, but it’s not for me. I didn’t like it as much as I had hoped I would.

Well hello there. This might just be the best smelling tea in the world. Smells exactly like you’d think it would – loads of natural strawberry with hints of roses and chocolate. I spy a couple of chocolate chips and rose petals in the mix, but it looks like a pretty standard black tea at first glance.

Steeped, this tea smells the way the ideal Valentine’s day should smell: heavy on chocolate and roses. A lighter scent than the dry tea, but still spectacular. I’m considering hanging tea bags full of this stuff in my room, seriously. But I digress, my first sip is earthy and a little bitter (maybe I oversteeped?). The aftertaste is subtly sweet and chocolaty. I’ve become a sucker for milk in my blacks, so let’s try that out… I think this is the first time milk didn’t do too well in a black – I don’t suggest it with this one. Once I added the milk, the tea seemed to lose its sweetness and I was just left with a woody taste. But a bit of sugar seems to bring the strawberry back to the forefront, so not all is lost.

This tea smells incredible. Like I mentioned, maybe the best smelling tea I’ve ever tried. It tastes pretty lovely straight, but seems to lose its appeal with milk. It’s a little sweet naturally so I’d suggest you be careful when adding sweetener to it! Overall, a pretty good tea. Just maybe don’t steep it for the full five minutes.

Well I didn’t get lucky after consuming that tea does that qualify as false advertising?! What I did get though was a nice cup of floral chocolatey tea.

Dry you have you typical black tea leaves, contrasting the darkness of the tea leaves are rose petals and dried strawberry pieces. It has a fragrant rose and chocolate aroma that is quite pleasing. Steeping the tea gives off the same chocolatey floral aroma.

The final brew is a dark rose amber color, it has the distinct smell of roses with a subtle hint of chocolate. One sip and the flavor explodes on your tongue first is a sweet chocolate taste, the following after tasting is a slightly tart floral taste that lingers for a while.

I wasn’t sure about this tea at first, not only the name but having rose petals in the tea was something I have not had before. I am glad I went out on a whim with this one because frankly its delicious. It has both the perfect combination of sweet and tart to keep you wanting more, they did a great job on this tea.

this tea tastes like incredibly juicy chocolate covered strawberries. There is a delicious black tea taste underneath though that makes this amazing all the way down. I generally can’t handle rose petals in tea but this one I don’t even taste them. I suspect they might come out more when it’s iced. A great late morning, early afternoon pick me up!

This is one of my favourite teas of all time! So much so I finished up the 50g, and bought a 100g tin! I’m a huge fan of roses and floral teas, as well as chocolate teas and this was NOT a disappointment at all! It tastes great, hot on it’s own, and I don’t need any additives to pick it up (like milk or sweetening). You can subtly taste the strawberries, too! But I felt like the chocolate and roses were the most dominant flavours of this tea.

For something a bit richer, I drink this hot with some sweetener and milk. It tastes so rich and like a dessert! I love it. Also, it’s great cold (and it then it tastes more like strawberries and roses, I find) with some milk and sweetening as well. Either way, it’s a great blend and it’s one of my favourites from DavidsTea. 100 rating for me, I hope they never stop making love tea #7!

I used 2 and 1/2 scoops of dry leaf for 473 ml.

Noticeably bitter, but the bitterness is balanced out with the chocolate flavour; it makes the tea have a dark-chocolate feel . The strawberry flavour peeks out a little bit and mixes well with the chocolate. This tea is not overly floral- the rose taste just barely makes its way through and blends nicely with the chocolate and strawberry taste

I’ve been having trouble getting a perfect cup out of my orders from DavidsTea (I’m a loose leaf newbie), so I decided to experiment with one of the samples that came along with my purchase. At first sip, I thought I’d steeped it for way too long — it seemed really bitter — but after adding a little soy milk and sugar, the flavor really mellowed and became quite delicious. I can’t say I taste the rose at all (maybe that’s just my tiny batch, though). The key flavors are the strawberry and dark chocolate, which really meld together very nicely. On second steep, the flavor is much less intense but still pretty tasty. If I buy from DavidsTea again, this will definitely be on my purchase list.

One note: unlike a lot of their teas, this one recommends 1.5 tbs of tea as opposed to 1.5 tsp, so you’re not going to get as much bang for your buck with Love Tea #7. I think it’s worth it, though.

I don’t care for this tea, to be honest. I didn’t expect to, but I wanted to give it a go, since I didn’t expect to enjoy Read My Lips either. I’m just not a big fan of chocolate in teas.

Also, something in this tea gives me an intense headache…I think. I’ve had it twice now and twice I haven’t finished it due to headache, but I’m going to give it one more try before I say for certain.

I really like this one. Initially, I was reluctant because I though it would be similar to read my lips, which I do enjoy, but am not over the moon about. Having said that however, I really do love this tea! I like it when I’m in the mood for a good full-bodied black tea but don’t want to fall back on the usual Earl Grey or orange pekoe. I really enjoy the blending of chocolate and strawberry and the general balance of flavors that really stand out rather than becoming a muddles mess. I drink this one with 2% and a teensy bit of agave if my sweet tooth is wanting attention. I will be getting this again :)

This tea is so thick with its chocolate and strawberry flavours it’s almost syrupy. An intense aroma issues from the bag as soon as you open it. I can smell it steeping from across the room! Don’t steep this one too long or else it gets a little intense!

Uniquity

My tea cupboard smells pretty strongly of this guy….It’s powerful, that’s for sure!
