From DAVIDsTEA

A citrus burst

This blend of high-grown oolong is truly rejuvenating. It’s scented with lemon myrtle, jasmine and natural citrus essences, and the result is light, fresh and uplifting. Hot, it’s soothing and citrusy. Iced, it’s an unbelievable thirst quencher. And infused into vodka, it makes the world’s best martinis. (MK Kosher)

Ingredients: Oolong tea, jasmine flowers, lemon myrtle, natural orange flavouring*.

Hot brewed this is way too overpoweringly citrusy. Very little oolong comes through. It’s mostly in-your-face acrid citrus peel and nothing else. Cold brewed it is best sweetened, but still maintains an off putting overly citrus zest/peel flavour (as opposed to the juice/essence of the fruit, it tastes like the peel or rind).

When looking at the tea, the majority of the volume of the loose leaf is made up of jasmine flowers. This initially confused and I’m not going to lie, worried me, due to the distinctly lemon smell of the tea. I wasn’t sure if lemon and jasmine would play nice together. Luckily, they seem to complement each other nicely. The oolong notes are minimal, with lemon myrtle being the predominant flavour. The jasmine adds a nice floral element to the tea without overpowering it whatsoever. I thoroughly enjoyed my cup of this, but I likely won’t be drinking it on a regular basis due to the largely one-dimensional nature of this tea.

So it’s been a while since I wrote a tasting note…

There’s a reason for that though! My laptop’s motherboard short circuited and the laptop is completely toast now. So, RIP laptop. I have a new one now that I fucking HATE but for a little less than a week I was completely without a laptop/internet connection. In a way, it was a nice technology “detox” but admittedly I’m internet dependent so here I am. I’ve got lots of tasting notes to catch up on because I took advantage of the extra time to drink more tea – there may be some typing errors though, I have to learn to type on a new and much smaller laptop keyboard. Also, I have four+ years of muscle memory on my previous keyboard to unlearn…

Anyway, this was my commute tea today. I can definitely tell it’s getting to be more spring time because I find myself craving greener oolongs and floral blends this week, my ‘go to’ Spring staples. This was both of those! Really smooth though arguably more orange tasting than lemon.

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts regarding the teas, and not the company’s.

A nice, light lemony flavor. It was pleasant, but I’m sure it would be better iced.

Having this again tonight. It’s late and I wanted something warm to drink. This is nice cause it is smooth, clean tasting, slightly sweet and citrus-y. I’m really glad I got this oolong tea.

This tea is nice. Not one of the best jasmine teas I have been still good. I love jasmine so I could not say no to trying this.

This is the tea I want to gift to someone who doesn’t know tea and who needs a pick me up. With it’s pretty floating jasmine flowers, and it’s bright lemony taste, this tea is for someone special to who you want to share a bit of beauty to the world or if you just want to brighten up your own day because you deserve it.

Books recommended for this tea are: The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Pearl, and Sir Orfeo by Unknown, J.R.R. Tolkien (Translator), Christopher Tolkien (Editor), The Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood
