From DAVIDsTEA

A spicy adventure

If you’re into spice-based chais, this one is for you. It’s got a smooth base of caffeine-free rooibos, and a satisfying kick of cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and piquant red peppercorns. Plus there’s a strong hint of coconut, for a slightly exotic twist. Try it straight up or infused in hot milk for a truly fabulous chai latte. It’s the kind of thing you get addicted to.

Ingredients: Fair Trade Certified Rooibos, coconut, cinnamon, ginger root, cardamom, cloves, pink peppercorns. With artificial and natural flavouring*.

Major back log from last week. I got this in a HUGE swap from Janelle and I’m sad to say….this is a taste of why I do not enjoy rooibos tea. I was on a roll with a few yummy ones I stumbled upon. I can not tell you why I did not enjoy this one. I wish I could. I love coconut and could taste it right away but I got a really funky after taste. I really loved the dry leaf smell. I am sooooo sad I did not enjoy this one:( I will have to try this again in a sipdown.

I think all of the spices with the rooibos just didn’t work for me. This tasted like medicine to me, and I think the only time I’d ever want to drink it is if I was sick. But maybe even not then, as I have a number of other teas that I would much prefer.

I really just think that rooibos teas are not for me. Not rating this one because I think for a rooibos chai, it’s probably good… just not for me. I had this last night with a couple of friends, and I still have enough left in the sample for one more cup. I might try it again another day.

Have you tried cinnamon rooibos chai? I just picked some up, but haven’t tried it yet.

Courtney picked up a little sample for me and is going to send it my way, so I can try it out. I think, if any DavidsTea rooibos is for me, it will probably be that one. And Oh Canada, I didn’t mind it.

Tealizzy

The teas that made me like rooibos were actually by Lupicia. Let me know if you want a sample of piccolo or Jardin sauvage. If so, send me a message…also, since I’m new, let me know how people usually share stuff long distance. :)

Okay, here’s the thing. I don’t really like any of Davids Tea chais. I don’t know, the flavor just seems fake? Anyway, I got 2 ounces of this, which is a lot, as a present. I find it rather uninspiring. Not bad, just… meh.

If they still have it in your local store try the Chocolate Chili Chai blend, so far it’s been the Chai blend I have enjoyed the most from DT!

Isaila

Thanks, I’ll try it!

Uniquity

I think it’s their yucky cinnamon. At least that’s my theory on why I don’t like their chais. :)

Isaila

Yeah I know! It is the cinnamon. Their plain Chai ( Pure Chai or something?) is just off. It doesn’t really taste like cinnamon at all…

Wow I really like this one. Has just enough coconut, not overwhelming, you can taste it. And lots of spicyness. It’s just what a chai should be. Also it’s caffeine free so I can drink it whenever I want and not worry about it keeping me up all night.

I like it with milk, honey if I want it sweeter.

This is my favorite tea, without a question.

When I steep it, I fill my infuser with half boiling water, and half heated milk that I’ve warmed either on the stove or in the microwave, and I let it all steep together. No other tea latte, chai or otherwise, comes close to the deliciousness of this blend. I’m not surprised at all that this is one of DavidsTea’s best sellers.

Add a touch of honey or agave and if you like tea on the sweet side, but it doesn’t need it.

If you’re already a fan of this tea and are looking for similar blends, I would recommend DavidsTea’s Cocoa Paradiso, Mint Chocolate Rooibos or Pure Chai

This one is VERY tasty. I should order some but need to put myself on lockdown for a bit with tea buying.

I know what you mean! I finally decided that I had every single one of David’s Teas that I wanted…and when I was in their last night they told me they’re releasing a few more in a couple weeks. I was both delighted and chagrined.

Hi Beckara, I live in Montreal, I bought a tin of this tea but don’t Love it. Would you be interested in a trade? If not i’m willing to just give this to you, it’s one tablespoon short of 100g. please let me know, I just started drinking tea this year after receiving a promotional tea bottle from a Party company and i’m still discovering what I like and Don’t like, I would hate to see this go to waste.

I had a small sample of this that I took to my tea and chinese food date with my best friend. We both enjoyed the heck out of it. It was smooth and sweet without being too chocolaty. Definitely considering buying some once I make room in my stash.

I think this is what I’m drinking. With my huge haul of tea today, I decided I should probably hold off on all of the caffeinated Mariage Freres goodness and dive into all of the smaller size decaf blends from DAVID’s that I grabbed today. This was the first one that grabbed me, because I really need some extra spice right now to continue slaying the chest cold in record time.

Dry, the smell surprised me. Coconut spice chai? Intriguing. For some reason I thought the coco in this was cocoa instead of coconut.

Steeped, it smells the same, if a bit of an odd coconut smell. The flavor seems a bit off too, a bit chemical-y perhaps, or the cardamom is reacting somehow with the coconut. It’s nice, buttery, spicy and pleasant, I’m just.. loving other stuff more. Have @ 1.5tsp left, so this may go into the swap or gift box.

It has been a long time since I’ve had chai. And the last chai I had was one of those bagged ones that you really have to have with milk to make it drinkable. So it was with some skepticism that I approached this one, given that I’m not a milk fan, nor, based on previous experience, much of a chai person.

This is much better than I expected. For some reason I expected more of a chocolate flavor, I think I had it mixed up with the chocolate chili chai tea that I have a sample of. Anyway, the peppercorns give it a bit of a bite, while the other spices are all in harmony. None of them are overwhelming the others. I get a bit of coconut, but mostly in the aroma of the brewed tea. And cinnamon! I definitely get the cinnamon. I think part of the bite that I get from this tea also comes from the ginger. A nicely done blend, this would be perfect for cold nights, curled up with a blanket and a book or my knitting. Unfortunately, we don’t get many cold evenings, so I’ll have to suffer through warm evenings with this tea to make me imagine it is cold. Definitely going on my to-buy list!
