Through the Grapevine

White Tea by DAVIDsTEA

Hot gossip

People can’t stop talking about this sensational white-grape tea. Like real grapes, it’s naturally sweet with a touch of tartness. It mingles scandalously decadent white Bai Mu Dan and Cui Min teas with a rich bouquet of mallow blossoms, cornflowers and rose petals. And it’s bursting with juicy tidbits of rosehip and black currant. So salaciously grapey, you’ll just about lose your mind for it.

I’m really loving the smell of this tea. It definitely has that white grape juice scent! The taste of this tea, however, is much lighter than expected! The smell has me craving a blast of juicy, sweet and tart grape. This is a really light and gorgeous cup of tea, I only want more GRAPE flavor. Thank you ladykittykat for this tea!

I wish there was a way to tag/flag teas that have more than one entry. This one has 3 different entries!! I’ve noticed that it’s very common for the teas I’ve had from David’s. (I’ve chosen to log under this one, since it’s the only entry that has another note).

Anyway, the dry leaf smells like grape sweet-tart candies, or really concentrated grape juice. Very, very strong on the grape flavoring. I’ve brewed it to almost-recommended instructions (I did 2 tsp instead of 3 tsp for 16 oz).

As I sip, I can detect the grape flavoring…it’s semi-strong, but I’m also tasting something that’s rather grape-leaf flavored. This blend is very grassy/leafy/vegetal tasting to me. There’s just a hint of flowers at the end of the sip and in the aftertaste.

I think I’ll hold off on rating this until I’ve had it at a lower temp/steep time.

Welch’s grape juice?! WHERE?!

So I figured after taking a wiff of this it would be overpowering with grape. However, perhaps I used a smidge less leaves than suggested, but I found this white tea light and refreshing. This tea’s natural sweetness with the white grape flavor and the flowery tart after-taste is really beginning to grow on me. I’m going to miss this tea once I’ve drank through the 25g sample I bought.

If anyone has any of this they are willing to send me I will love them forever. I almost cried when it didn’t win the Back from the Dead contest. This is my all time favourite flavoured tea to have iced. All I taste with every sip is this amazing tea that is a dupe for Welch’s White Grape juice, but without all the calories or the crazy costs. If it wasn’t for the fact that it loses a bit of the amazingness when I drink it hot, I’d be giving this one a perfect score. Most hoarded tea in my collection, for sure.

Okay, so this week has absolutely sucked for me. As a bit of a soul soothing consolation prize I made this one cold steeped when I got out-patiented from emerg on Friday, and have been nursing the pitcher ever since. This is definitely one of my all time favourite teas from David’s and was exactly the tea I needed to get even a small smile on my face.

Hey look! I found some more of this! I thought i ran out long ago..

This was one of my first Davidsteas, I remember being sold on the smell of it (which is I guess, how they make most of their business). I’m actually pretty happy about this one; it smells wonderful, looks and tastes almost like white wine. It’s also on the expensive side, which i really wonder how i coughed up $20 for a 100g bag/tin.. Kinda sucks that they don’t make this one anymore, I would say that this was one of the better ones I’ve tried.

This tea smells like Welch’s grape jelly!

This tea promises delicious grapey-ness, and I can definitely taste it. It has a nice grape aftertaste too it as well. The white tea’s flavours are so light that, of course, they’re a bit overpowered by the grapes and other ingredients, but not so much that you loose the tea taste entirely.

I love looking at white teas in the tin. I don’t know why, but something about the texture of the leaves is something that makes me happy.

(Random fact: While writing this, a Welch’s juice commercial came on A&E! I think it’s a sign?)

I love grape juice, or actually grape drink, reminds me of being a kid and my dad would take me to harvey’s and get that grape “juice” they used to have. that and the onion rings were the only reason i would go there…ok getting off topic lol.

The dry leaves smell kind of like that grape juice tasted.

When steeping you really smell the grape but you also get a distinct floral smell too.

The taste is not what i expected, not as grapey as i thought it would be but still very nice, i would definitely do this tea again when i’m in the mood for something sweet.

Note: when spooning this out make sure to try and get a little from each componant, I’ve noticed that the tea tastes a little different each time depending on how much of each ingredient ends up in your cup.

this has been sitting at the back of my cupboard for the longest time and i dont know why, i really like it!

Ok I’m upping my rating on this as I’ve been drinking more and more of this lately and i really really like it! not sure if this is love yet but definitely a crush!

sweet, grape and a touch of bite this tea is great!

I’m still lovin’ this tea, the taste is a little different everytime so it keeps things interesting!

Yeah, I’ve noticed most of the DavidsTeas teas have about 3 listings. One had four!

I got this tea to go once, and it was quite strong and grapey. Grape isn’t really my thing, but I kind of like this. I don’t think I’d buy it, but I got a sample in my last order. The tea looks awesome and smells crazy, like a grape juicebox or something.

I used only half the sample, probably about 1g, for a mug of it. It’s much lighter-tasting than when I got it in store. It’s not as memorable this way, but the grape was a little overpowering for me the first time.

I don’t know. It’s good, probably great if you like grape, but not my favourite.

there is a reason this tea is rated higher than forever nuts…

it is the best davidstea blend. it’s sad they didn’t keep it around (especially considering the lacklustre amount of white teas they have). it has a beautifully delicate flavour (grapey — but not overly! with a floral/berry twist) that lingers on your palate. pure heaven!

i keep hoping that one day they bring this one back. i would buy a kilo. sigh

Day 57 of my 101 days of DAVIDsTEA challenge.

I have to say, this tea was too weak for me. I followed the directions on how much to put in and how long to steep, but… I just found it to brew very weakly. There was a hint of a fruity flavour, but nowhere near strong enough for me to properly enjoy it.

I resteeped it and left it overnight to see how it would react to uberoversteeping. It didn’t bitter (THANK YOU WHITE TEA!), and the flavour was more intense, but still mild.

I still have a little left of this 2010 winter tea… I suppose I will have to put it to good use, letting it brew for a LONG time before I sip it.

I tried this in the store today… and I had been told by so many that this tea was amazing, so I think it had been built up in my head. Maybe it’s the fact that I’ve never enjoyed grapes all that much and only have the juice once in awhile…
The grape part really sings through, and I do like the taste, but it was sort of like a regular juice for me, a grape cider if you will. The white tea was hardly there at all, with no balance between the two whatsoever. Overall, enjoyable, but just ok.
Gah! the strawberry white really set the bar high for me. I have a feeling that I will forever be comparing my fruit teas to that now *sighs

Smell: Dry leaves remind me of grape flavored bubblegum, which makes my mouth water. Brewed, it smells like flowers and grape juice.

Flavor: For me, the scent of the dry leaves builds up an unrealistic expectation. Its a strong scent, and then when I drink it, its very light in flavor. I’ve done this at a low temp and a high temp, either way I have not really enjoyed the flavor.

Reminds me of: Liquor reminds me of DavidsTea’s Champagne (also a white tea)

Steeps: 1

Would I buy this again?: No, this tea just isn’t doing it for me.

Other notes: The package says to do 94 C. at 4-5 min. I’ve always thought the liquor came out too strong & dark. Turning down the heat made it taste better, but with a loss of strong flavors. In my opinion the taste is not a good value at $11.75 for 50g. If you are really curious about trying this, I recommend getting a small size in store (25g)

Smells amazing…I’ve wanted this since it came out but couldn’t bring myself to cough up the price. Today I gave in. And I didn’t regret it, at all!! We let this steep for a long time, though the beau poured a cup at about five minutes and it was delicious, but a really mild fruit flavour. At a ten minute steep, the tea really hits you right off. It sort of is milky, though deliciousn and sweet, though not too sweet!!

Having a delicious pot of Through the Grapevine. Hopefully will enjoy another pot of the spent leaves when I get home. It’ll be a nice reward for running errands. Lovely white tea taste, strong grape smell and relatively strong flavour. Such a nice tea..

Holy Hannah, I love this tea. Brewed some up this afternoon while watching Scott Pilgrim Vs the World again with the beau. Unfortunately when we got this they were almost out at David’s Tea and the tea lady was forced to give us the bottom. Accordingly, there are lots of littles broken bits in my tea : (

I strained it through some paper towel to keep the small bits out of my mug and am enjoying it. Still really grapey, I feel confident in saying that I can taste the delicate white underneath it. I’ve had a couple different white teas now and I think I can finally identify the taste of the itself. It’s really interesting, and almost like a fleeting flavour at the end/underneath the sip.

Unrelated, but I think I will try 52Teas Cantaloupe Bai Mu Dan once again soon and see if my burgeoning appreciation for white teas allows me to more fully enjoy that one. I hope so! I also want a mug of their apple vanilla white chai. I think I’m going to end up with a tea queue if I’m not careful!

This was purchased for a friend, but through some mix up it ended up in my bag. It certainly smells lovely, but I was hesitant to try it as it seemed to me to be a “weak” tea.

But I brewed a cup and it was actually quite lovely. Its definitely an afternoon tea, as its not heavy like you’d expect for a morning or evening tea.

Its quite sweet like the grapes on which it is based, but it is not a fruity tea. The rose and black currents in it persuade it not to be a fruit tea.

I have a rather large bag of it and I may purchase it once I’m finished as its a nice tea to have on hand as I see it being a pleasing tea for guests.

DAVIDsTEA has a lot of fruity teas and some can be a little similar-tasting. However, this one really stands out, I loved the white tea and grapes combination… since white tea is a very delicate taste, I feared the grape might overwhelm it, but both tastes come together and there’s really nothing to complain about. The flavours come out even richer when it has cooled down a bit, but it’s fully enjoyable hot too. I’m definitely going to buy more of this one before the winter collection goes away!

I’m so glad I bought tons of this one last winter! Every time, before I brew it, I think it probably won’t be as good as in my memory, and expect to be slightly disappointed. Especially since the dry smell screams GRAPE! and nothing else, almost to the point where it’s too much. But once again, it failed to disappoint! I brought some in class in a thermos, and when I opened it, everyone’s head instantly turned in my direction from the smell, and I definitely could see some envy! (of course, I did share some with my neighbours!).

Anyways, the best thing about that tea is its taste. If you brew it right, you will taste the grape, but it won’t overpower the white tea at all. Since I’m a big white tea fan, to me, that part is the best. The delicious, flavourful taste of white tea, paired with a delicate yet authentic taste of grapes in the background. How can this not be permanent? I think none of DT’s recent white tea blends have hit the note as well as this one (though I did love some of them – hello Cherry Potion!).

Love this tea, it has the perfect amount of tartness hot, and iced and sweetened it’s even better. Definitely one of my favourite winter teas.

Received this tea as a present, and thoroughly enjoyed every last cup of it!
It’s a light, delicate and fruity tea that goes great with long afternoons on cold days when you’re looking for something a little more mellow and flavourful.
Also? I secretly hum a little Marvin Gaye every time I prepare it…

The tea itself looks very, very fancy. The scoop that I’m using tonight had this delicate little spear of purple flower. I don’t know what it is, but it makes me feel kind of like I’m drinking a princess tea.
The smell dry made me smile, so that’s why I chose this one for tonight’s shenannigans (read: working, as per usual.) Hot, it has a smell that brings to mind those little plastic fruit-shaped powder-filled candies of my youth. You’d buy the purple plastic bunch of grapes, take off the little green plastic friction-fit lid and tilt your head back to have your mouth filled with a Lick-M-Ade style flavoured tangy powder. I loved those. It’s making me think that my decision to drink this tea naked was the right call. I’m thinking sugar might have made it diabetes-sweet.
It brewed darker than I anticapted. Almost a honey colour. I’m under the impression that it’s a white. I could be wrong, but I’m honestly far too lazy to actually check.
Taste: DISAPPOINTING! It tastes like hot water with a lovely smell! I’m going to let it cool down and then try a bigger mouthful. This can’t be the taste of this tea. Okay, it’s got a slight sweetness, and a great kicky aftertaste of white grape. It’s more like a fruity wine taste than a juice taste, though. Not like a wine you’d bring out during a dinner party; more like a wine you’d keep beside the sofa during a pyjama-wearing popcorn-munch Sleepaway Camp (horror trilogy, not a place you’d actually camp) marathon.
All in all, I’m not super impressed, which is disappointing because this is several nights in a row that I’ve been left with a tea that I haven’t really enjoyed.
Oh well. C’est la vie.
