This was ordered along with the Fall Collection. I’d been meaning to order it since i had a sample of it months ago, but for some reason I just didn’t get around to ordering it until now. This weekend is a busy one for our family. My little sister is getting married tomorrow. So there’s the rehearsal and dinner thing tonight (I’m in the wedding). Then sleeping over at my parents house (hubs is coming along or he might turn up late for the wedding tomorrow). Hair to get done tomorrow and wedding! Whew!

So I wanted something really nice to kick my day off with. The dry leaf is indeed a nice woodsy flavor. I wish David’s had a candle version of the dry leaf I could light in my kitchen…wouldn’t that be something!? The tea itself does have a bit of an astringent taste to it. But it isn’t bad or super bitter. Plus I will admit to adding a little sweetener and half and half to my tea. But not enough to change the color of the liquid. This is really great and I see my cup is empty so time for a refill!

Lately I’ve been drinking either new teas, or try to get rid of teas. Time for an “older” tea that I actually enjoy.

Yep! Still smooth and tasty like I remember! I’ll have to try it next to my DavidsTea Darjeeling second flush just to see which will end up on my permanent shelf.

I’ve been cleaning out my cupboard lately, too. Couldn’t fit all the new stuff in there so I got rid of a bunch of things I hated or that were probably stale. :D

That’s a pretty good idea! I may see that some of my bagged stuff gets misplaced in the garbage, but I just feel bad throwing stuff out.

Were you happy with your Murchie’s order? I like my Prince Charles blend, and the Library Blend, but DNW the Ceylon Best, Darjeeling or Earl Grey. They range from drinkable to OK but with so much AWESOME out there, it’s almost like why bother?

I reorganized all my stuff into tins!!! Red is black tea, the green/white one is herbal/rooibos/honeybush and the little Dr. Seuss box is green/oolong/white tea! I have some in a cupboard but those are the ones I want to just disappear.

Heee!! I like it! Know what you mean about throwing stuff out but I’m pretty sure some of my bagged teas in flavours I hate, ie “cleanse” and anything with chamomile, etc have been around for YEARS and no one drinks them. So yeah. That or stick em in a bath, maybe?

I do like my Murchies teas – I got the Christmas one plus fruit-blacks, they’re all teas that I could make a pot of and just mainline through while making art or something, like excellent every day teas, I guess? I still haven’t tried the mango one yet, though.

Good to hear you like your Murchie’s teas. Must be that I just don’t like their straight blacks as much – they just taste so bitter to me and it doesn’t matter if I steep it for 3 minutes or 1. Maybe I got a bad batch, or it’s just not my thing. IDK. I’d re-order the other two, and snag the Christmas blend so I’m not against the entire company or anything.

Oooh Xmas blend!!! Maybe I’ll stuff some of the Murchie’s ones in my envelope to you so you can see what you think. :P (Also, less for me to drink – bwa ahahahah). They are ok with milk and sugar – I just like drinking my blacks plain now so I can taste the actual tea!

Not especially surprised that this one’s been discontinued.

It’s okay, brews a pretty gold color, but it’s a bit flat when it comes to flavor.

That is sad … not that it’s been discontinued, really, but that it is flat. Darjeeling should never taste flat!

Thank you Jason for this BIG Sample!

My granddaughters (18,17,15) are sitting and watching Gladiator on my big screen TV as I write.

I served them some (Tangerine Creamsicle) tea already and had some myself but now I wanted more. (I’ve also seen Gladiator a zillion times!)

What could be better than blood, swords and tea?!

Jason kindly sent a nice hefty sample of this Darjeeling which I was ready to try.
The scent of the liquor was such a heady floral mix of orange blossom, jasmine and wet bamboo steaming and curling up into my face. I took a cup around for each of the girls to smell. Ummmmm. Smelled good to them. Approval!
I took a sip and noticed how light and brisk the flavor was at first. There was no astringency and the flavor was naturally sweet with a light bergamot taste.
As the cup cooled it became creamy and thickened. I added sweetening and swooned. Oh the exotic Indian winds blew through me…a monsoon of delightful floral tea.

I commented to the girls that this would be a proper tea to take on a Yurt trip (people of all ages go stay in Yurts Colorado. Youth groups, even the Senior Center has Yurt trips!) This and an Assam would do well.

DAVIDsTea has successfully created a blended darjeeling to take the guesswork away for people who just want to drink tea and not study first flush, second flush…and flushes that don’t make sense to many people.

Very enjoyable!

Bonnie how are things there in your parts? The fire isn’t closer is it? Heard something on the news about them letting SOME people BACK in and some still are having to move out and that the fire could go until AUTUMN!!

I live at the edge of Fort Collins by the hills. There are 1200 people fighting the fire and last count was 50,000 acres burned. Today the smoke is high. When it descends I get sick. They let people further South go back home. The fear now is North and by me, not letting the fire come to populated areas. More lightning due. Our big rains come in July. Hoping for the best! Thanks. I keep taking pictures with my lousy camera! Look at previous review for more photos of fire by my house (mostly smoke).

I saw them! Scary stuff! LOL its times like these I bet you wished you had a good camera! We had one but returned it – so much easier to use a cell phone!

Hmmm. Again I am impressed by a tea, only to try it again and find it lacking! I was most unimpressed… I’m not quite sure why :(

My first foray into darjeeling tea, I was quite pleased with this. I’ve read that Darjeelings can be a little confusing with first flush, etc etc. and I’ll admit that that’s part of what has kept me from trying them myself. This has been noted as a good beginner’s darjeeling and I think I quite agree!

The aroma that greeted me as this tea steeped was woodsy, slightly roasted and made me think of warm grains. The flavor was astringent but not overpoweringly so, with notes of spinach and light grains. It was crisp and made me think of walking through the woods in autumn and feeling the leaves crunch beneath your feet. At the end I get gentle notes of wine like flavor (unsure of an adjective to describe it other than that as I am not all that knowledgeable in wines).

Over all a very enjoyable tea that makes me want venture out to try more Darjeeling varieties!

This is probably a blend of FF, SF, & maybe Autumnal Darjeeling crops. Darjeeling teas are some of my Favorite teas-especially First Flush. :))

Last sample that I got with my DAVIDsTEA order.

First off, let me say that I’m not a huge fan of Darjeelings. I do really enjoy some, but a lot are really gross to me.

I won’t say this is gross, but it certainly isn’t one I enjoy. It has a very stereotypical Darjeeling taste and aroma. Very musty and woody. The word that this tea invokes in my mind is “damp.” That’s really all I can think of when I taste it…. I have a bad habit of adding milk and sugar (or Truvia/Stevia) to my unflavored black teas when I have them in the morning, and I did that here. If anything, I think the milk and stevia makes me like it even less. Right now, it’s like a liquid form of must and that is really unappealing to me.

Bottom line, I don’t think I’ll ever try this one again.

This one is really rich of flavor. Mild-spicy mild-earthy with a fruity after-taste.

First of all, I can feel the fresh breath from all the Indian leaves.
The flavors became more clear as you drink it, at first impression it seems like a nice black tea. As you sip and the temperature drop, you feel the lovable muscat flavor.

This have a fresh earthy taste perfectly balanced with the spice.
The aftertaste is fruity, it’s really subtile.

I NEED MORE OF IT.

I enjoyed this one. I liked the blend of the teas, and did find it astringent, which I’m discovering I really like in my blacks for my morning pick-me-up. As the cup cooled it changed flavour slightly and gave me similar hints to what I enjoy in Red Rose. The Kenyan from Davids will still be my black looseleaf, but I can see me grabbing some of this as well for times when I want to play with blends. Am curious what it will do if I add some milk, now, as well.
