I was actually pretty excited about this tea. My bff, katgolik, bought 50g on our last order because it was a citrussy fruit tea – which she adores; then wound up pretty much hating it. I tried Bear Trap, which makes me die a little with it’s sheer amazingness, so I traded her for PF, thinking I’d love it after my BT experience. Hmph. Not so much. Again, I might have used too much, or steeped too long (2 heaping DT perfect spoons/7m), but the hibiscus overwhelmed… I like some hibiscus, but this seemed all hibiscus. Unlike BT, where I can taste absolutely every flavour in different mouthfuls, I only tasted the one flavour in this tea – hibiscus! I was soooooo excited about the grapefruit – and the shiny pink lemonade color in the first few minutes of the steep – but unfortunately I got nothing but dark red overpowering deep flower hibiscus :-( I will try again as I have 50 g of it – iced, less time, less tea… I so hope I can find a way to love this!

This is my absolute favourite tea ever. Traditionally, I have kept to blacks and greens but this is the tea that reintroduced me to the fact that herbals can be just as delicious. Pink Flamingo has an extremely bold citrus taste that’s not for everyone, but it is balanced quite well with the hibiscus, beetroot and eucalyptus. It’s like candy to me! So sad that it is not carried anymore.

This is like drinking a cup of sunshine! It is an instant reminder of the springtime and flowers and heat to come. The deep flamingo-pink colour of the tea is just as refreshing and energizing as the citrusy grapefruit smell. I can’t believe there is no grapefruit in here – how could there not be??

I brought this tea to work with me on an overnight shift and it gave me a nice caffeine-free energizing boost at 5am. I didn’t find the taste to be too tart at all – I thought it was perfect just the way it was with no sugar needed. I was a little bit hesitant about drinking it hot because it only seems to make sense to drink it iced, but I was very pleasantly surprised. I also improvised a small glass of iced-tea by adding a packet of sugar and some ice cubes (which was all I could find at work) and it was even more delicious! I can only imagine what it would taste like iced when prepared properly!

The onnnly downside is that this tea does not last long due to the fact that 2tsp are needed for one cup, so you don’t get as much bang for your buck. But it is delicious :)

I am a citrus junkie so this tea was right up my alley. The scent in the package is mouth-watering and as soon as I spotted the big chunks of orange I knew I was in for a treat. I was delighted to see it turn not just pink but HOT pink – so cute!! On it’s own it was a little bitter but nothing that a tiny, little pinch of honey couldn’t fix. Delish warm, and although it’s not something I would consider an “evening tea” it went well with my lunch. Can’t wait to try it iced!

I remember enjoying DT’s flamingo fresca a few years ago, so I quickly ordered this other tea with flamingo in the name, not knowing if there was anything in common between them. It tastes and smells super strongly of grapefruit. Sometimes, it’s too bitter and tart, though that is representative of grapefruit. When it’s steeped for just the right amount of time with the right amount of sweetener, it’s pretty good! The flavor is authentic and tart, and I only drink it cold. Just make sure it has a short steep!

Cold brew sipdown! (237/400)

I only drank this hot once, when I first got it, and don’t remember much if anything about it. I was hesitant to try a cold brew because it would use up the rest of my sample and I wouldn’t be able to give a note of the tea hot, which is usually the first way I like to review a tea, but I am so glad I went for it because this makes a fantastic cold brew! I actually think because of the tart citrus and cool menthol it wouldn’t be that great hot, and I think I’ve made the right choice. It smells like sherbet (the fizzy sweet kind, not the American kind), and it’s a glorious pink shade befitting the name. This makes me think that hibiscus is present in a level which would have ruined this as a hot brew. Iced, it’s tart but it has some natural sweetness to it too, which makes it refreshing and gulpable at the same time. A medley of citrus notes are most prominent, leading into a slightly herbaceous, cooling eucalyptus note at the end of the sip which lingers at the back of the throat. I’d love to try making this into a cocktail. Maybe something with gin, or Cointreau. I wonder how it would add a twist to a Blue Lagoon, or perhaps a Singapore Sling… It’s a shame it’s a sipdown. While it wouldn’t make a list of my favourite teas of all time, there’s just something about it which excites me and is making me want to try it a million different ways, half of which involve alcohol. This tea is awakening the mixologist in me!

Iced 2 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

I had to look up this fizzy sweet sherbet. It sounds delicious, reminds me of a Fun Dip. What a treat! You’ll share any cocktail creations, I hope? :)

Nattie

I had to look up Fun Dip haha, but yeah it looks quite similar! Sherbet is more sour and fizzy than the sugar in a Fun Dip though, by the look of it. We have something called a Sherbet Dip Dab, or a Double Dip, which is essentially the same thing with sherbet (: I absolutely will share any cocktails I make! I have received bottle after bottle of alcohol today for my birthday so I might be celebrating with a cocktail or two later! (:

Oh happy birthday!!!

Sipdown no. 6 of September 2019 (no. 97 of 2019 total, no. 585 grand total).

As a cold tea it was a little more tart than I was hoping. I did enjoy the last couple of spoons hot. See original note for hot experience description.

I have to say that a lot of these David’s fruit blends seem similar to me. I think that’s because I drink them infrequently and not back to back, so I’m just remembering generalities from past tastings while I’m drinking.

This tastes like hot grapefruit juice to me. It’s not a very complex taste, although the eucalyptus adds a faint menthol edge. It’s a very odd taste overall, yet I rather like it. It’s comforting when I have an allergy-related sore throat.
