Goji Pop

Fruit Herbal Blend by DAVIDsTEA

Spring eternal
Legend has it that Li Ching-Yun was born in China in 1677 and died 256 years later in New York. His secret? Goji berries. Your secret? This hot pink tea filled with sweet, sweet goji berries, vitamin-C-rich rosehip, citrusy lemon oil, apple, melon, marigold and hibiscus. It’s probably the most delicious longevity formula ever. Which is key, since you’ll be popping it for the next two centuries. Caffeine-free.

This is so yummy! This is also excellent iced. Great in the summer.
I don’t add any sweetener to it.
Works excellentlly as a cold brew especially, and it is also just so pretty to watch everytime I open the fridge and see it steeping in there!
I really like the fruity taste.

When I first tried this tea, the girl at DT said that it wasn’t her favourite and it reminded her of a pink Starburst…and she was totally right! I think it’s delicious though, and can’t wait to try it iced as well.

It is so so so hard to rate this herbal, because it is in essence two teas:

The first is super bitter and too much and not at all pleasant. Rating = 10

The second is amazing and light and fruity and delicious! Rating = 85

What makes the difference? It is the equivalent drinking cheap perfume when it’s hot. Ice it, however, and you fall in love. It is like some supreme juice made of only the plumpest and juiciest and freshest of fruits. It is summer is a tall glass with slices of lemon. It is the basis of any good pitcher of sangria. And this coming from the gal who previously hated iced teas with a passion. Yum!

Only problem? This can become surprisingly expensive due to the large amount needed to make a good iced tea and how heavy this tea is. 60g of it allowed me to make 1 hot tea, one picher of sangria, and one pitcher of iced tea. Ouch.

This is the first tea i bought and i loved it.

It’s a Wonderful iced tea and it’s very good too as a hot tea. It’s a fruity tea with a little sour taste (sour but damn good). This tea is my new “juice”. I’m a big Pepsi drinker but since i discovered aromatised teas, i’m not drinking much colas.

The only negative point i can say (and i’m not sure if it’s in my head or what) is that i think that when you have that tea for a long time in your cup, it tasted weird and the “texture” is different. (Note: with my Contigo Cup, AKA the best cup i never had, my tea can stay hot for at least 4 hours).

The smell that wafts out of the bag is definitely pink lemonade—erm goji berry lemonade?

Hot: I am not really a fan of this tea. It reminds me too much of the sick-days as a kid, when my dad would make me a hot lemonade to soothe my throat. The only difference is that I could make one of those for pennies (hot water + lemon wedge + honey = my dad’s hot lemonade) as opposed to this which is a bit pricier.

Cold: For obvious reasons (it smelled like pink lemonade) I have been brewing this double-strength in the refrigerator, and what a difference it makes! Add a splash of lemon and agave and it’s almost identical to that quintessential summer beverage, only better for you (I would assume, being lower in sugar and calories). Not sure I will re-stock once it’s gone though, seems like something I would only drink in the summertime.

Made this into a batch of teapop. Mmmmmm delicious.

Goji Pop (fridge brewed, triple strength) + ice cold gingerale + TALL glass = amazeballs punch.

No. Lies.

This hot raspberry coloured tea is great iced, though I think it would have gotten a better response if I had asked for “a hit of agave” because the first sip reminded me of Cherry Koolaid with no sugar! Bleck! but once the ice started melting and the tea became less concentrated, my opinion of this “take away” tea slowly changed.

I think it will be worth buying a 100g and savouring over ice this summer… and maybe if I steep it myself I might have an improved opinion.

All in all: Not bad, worth a second chance.

EEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!

There was a snail floating in my tea as it steeping this morning! I am officially turned off! and I was going to make a lemonade based iced tea with this too! BLECK!

I am slowly running out of luscious watermelon, and when I pulled this off the shelf I thought watermelon, goji, watermelon, goji, WATERMELON and GOJI!! So I happily put one perfect scoop of luscious watermelon and one perfect scoop of goji pop into my basket, and my oh my!

I could smell the sweetness of the watermelon complimenting the sharp vitamin c of the goji and could not wait to “taste the rainbow” – taste the rainbow I did. I sometimes fine Goji Pop to taste like freshy before the sweetener is added and yet with the luscious watermelon there was enough sweet to not need any agave.

Mmmm, and no prizes in my steeped fruit this time…. ;o)

Oh how I will be sad when this goes.

I know that I mentioned I had added what was left of my Lucious Watermelon tea to this batch, and it looks as though I have maybe three cups worth of tea left… Hmmm, payday is coming maybe I need to focus on this tea and go get me a full 100g.

I know I have said this over and over again, but “this totally brings me back to my childhood, of ice cold Freshy on Summer days while running screaming through a sprinkler”

I LOVE THIS TEA!

So, I know that I mentioned the last of the Watermelon tea was mixed with this one… as a result, and because the Luscious Watermelon was a donated tea to my Summer Camp site, I brought the Goji Pop/Luscious Watermelon mix with me to work.

Again we used the Rubbermaid pitchers, and again we used 3 T-sacs per pitcher (this nearly drained me of Goji Pop and I will have to make sure I head into a DAVIDs soon for more.

The children preferred the “pucker power” of the Goji berries, and some of the children who have been drinking herbal teas with me all year, noticed: “HEY! Hey Erin! You can taste the watermelon on the (varying parts of the mouth)”

And quite a few of the children left begging their parents to take them to DAVIDs again, for some more yummy teas!

So I decided to try this tea today after my workout…iced… It smells like a strawberry lemonade with a hint of something else… not sure what that is but it smells really good.

After brewing it was a pale pinkish color really pretty! The smell was still strawberry lemonade to me… The first taste was a bit tart and tasted to me just like it smelled. But there is still that something else I would guess it is the Goji berry because I have never had it. This tea is good I don’t know if I would buy another bag but it is good and fruity! It will hit the spot on a hot day.

The balance of all the ingredients is just perfect. The first thing that comes to mind when tasting is melon, but surrounded by a rich taste of…. hmmm… other tasty stuff! It’s a little tart, which is a big plus for me. There is also a natural sweetness to it, maybe because of the apple chunks, though the sweetness is also perfectly balanced. The best about it might be the aftertaste. After swallowing a sip, the flavour left in my mouth seems to change every minute, revealing a new dimension of its yumminness. Then, if I wait too long before the next sip, I can feel my taste buds screaming “More! More! More!”. I don’t know how many cups of this I could drink in a row, but probably many. Many many.

I hope DAVIDsTEA plans on keeping this one in stores for the summer, because it will be absolutely perfect for iced tea!

I used my flash chill iced tea pitcher to make a batch of this a couple of days ago, and I’m just finishing up the last of it now.

I didn’t particularly enjoy the smell of the dry mixture, but I’m glad that I gave it a chance anyway. It’s really good iced. It’s fruity, sweet, and a little bit tart. It reminds me of some frozen fruit drink that I used to like as a kid, though I can’t put my finger on what exactly that drink was. I just know that it was also pinkish in color and delicious.

When I drink this, it’s the melon that I pick up on the most. I was a bit worried that the hibiscus (blech) might make it too tart if over-steeped, but 6 minutes seemed to be just fine.

All in all, a really delicious summer tea.

Delightful! This is my favorite Herbal from DT. I drink it hot, it’s nice and citrusy :) but iced is so so good! It’s my go to sumer tea!

Very tart and not that fruity. Even when I use a lot of tea I can’t get it to taste very strong.

For honeydew melon lovers. To me, this tea tastes lemon and it’s sour side at the start, then something I’m not sure about, then honeydew melon at the end. I like honeydew, so I like this tea. I never ate goji berries, so maybe the taste I’m not sure about is actually the goji?! It’s the first time I drink this tea today, so I can only tell about its taste when it’s hot. I should – and absolutely will – try it cold.

I am a fan of this tea! It is fruity and refreshing without being too artificial flavored. It is like Pink Flamingo’s valedictorian cousin. This one is picky boyfriend approved too. I don’t really worry about oversteeping this one. It seems the longer I steep it the more the goji berry comes out.

I expected more from this tea as I have heard alot about it. The smell and the taste both left alot to be desired. I’m glad I only had a cup to go because I will not be buying any more.

I got this with a sampler set I lovingly purchased from DAVIDsTEA and I brewed it up to rejuvenate myself and ended up soured by the cup. This is not the tea for me.

A lot of people recommend this iced – and I can see how it would be wonderful – but I rarely ice my teas and prefer them hot and warming to myself during the cold weather days I experience too often. So this one equalled disappointment hot. It had a tartness to it that did not sit well with my tongue. I like sour tastes but it has to go down smooth and this one just seemed to slap my face and trickle down my throat.

Still, I have to give it to the tea… The pink shade was bright and cute. But it does not reach my rebuy list at all.

I like this one more than most herbal blends. Despite its tartness, I did enjoy the flavor of the goji berries. It smells like a creamy candy after it’s steeped, but that doesn’t translate in flavor. I will probably reserve this for iced tea days!

Sweet and tart all at the same time. You definitely get the lemon flavor, it reminds me of a berry lemonade. I had it warm with a touch of added sugar. I bet it would be fantastic iced in the summer, seems like it would be really refreshing on a warm day.

There’s something to be said about fruity teas and dessert teas — the teas that remind you of decadence and dessert while having few to no calories. To date, the top caloric count I’ve seen on a tea is around 10 per cup (and I was surprised to find one that high!), and even that’s the approximate equivalent of around a minute or two of physical exertion. So, it really is a guilt-free way to enjoy something sweet, decadent, and delicious. Unless, of course, you decide to have your cake and drink it too. But even then, you’re only getting the large count from one, not the other.

Now, I’m not a total calorie-counting, healthy foods only person. I have my weaknesses and enjoy my share of sweets. But still, it’s nice to have some good teas around for when I’m in the mood for something, but aren’t quite in the mood for a full something big. Or, as I happen to have a strong preference over the temperature range at which I like my tea, when I’m in the mood for something hot.

Steeped: 2 tsp in a tea bag, brewed in-cup. Brewed with freshly boiled water.

First cup: Steeped 5.5 minutes. Clear.
There’s a bit of an odd scent to this tea. Definitely berry-ish, but not something I can easily place. It could either be the mix of the flavours, or the fact that I’m… less than familiar with goji berries on whole. The tea has a nice sweet-and-sour taste to it. A fruity sweet and a berry sour, I think — it reminds me a bit of a mixed fruit pie, but in tea form. There’s a nice richness and fullness to the flavour too. It’s strong, and lasts beyond an initial burst like some of the herbal teas do. It does leave a bit of a sour aftertaste, however.

Second cup: Resteep. Steeped 10 minutes. Clear.
It’s about half as colourful, and half as full in flavour. The flavour that is there is still fairly strong, however, just not as rich as before. The berry’s tartness still comes through, though the aftertaste seems sweeter, bringing more with it from the apple and melon perhaps.

Overall impression: I’m glad I still have enough of this to make another brew or two, because I think I may need the bit of further time to make a full impression of this tea. I like it — like I said, it’s kind of like a mixed berry pie, and I do enjoy my mixed berry pies. However, it’s not… quite something that I’d go out of my way to buy either. Probably on the level of tea I’d request if someone offered it to me, but not something I’d keep in plentiful stock on my own. We’ll see if this changes after another brew or two. ;)
I also slightly regret not having this tea loose, but I didn’t really have the time or the want for as many cups as normal today. Next time, provided I have enough, I’ll have it loose and see what I think of it then.

My rating: 79. B+. Again, not quite there at the yay level, but very close. A solid effort from a solid tea.

I’m afraid this tea isn’t for me. I find it to be a bit tart (not as much as Kanpe tea though-yuck!) and I don’t think I’m a fan of too many juice teas-at least not ones with a super strong flavour like this.
