From DAVIDsTEA

Soothing and smoothing

People have been buzzing about mulberry leaves for all sorts of reasons lately, but we just can’t stop talking about how good they taste. Combined with macadamia nuts, they make for a tea that is sweet, complex, and slightly earthy. Do they really have tons of other benefits, as the health freaks claim? We’re too happy to care. Caffeine-free. (MK Kosher)

Ingredients: Mulberry leaf, organic macadamia nuts, natural flavouring*.

After a long break from buying any tea, I finally walked into David’s today, looking for something yummy to drink tonight while I write an end of term paper. So I saw this tea featured and bought some. I didn’t even smell it before I got home, I was in such a hurry. But it was not a mistake. Once I put the water to boil and I opened a bag of this, and took a nice big whiff of it, I knew I was going to like it.
And like it I did. And very much so. I’ve never had anything with mulberry in it but I’ve had many teas with macadamia nuts. In fact, some of my favorite Lupicia teas are those with macadamia in them. This tea is reminiscent of Forever Nuts but not as nutty, much more sweet (which I like). Unfortunately, I think 5.30 minutes is a touch too long for me as it tasted bitter toward the end of the cup. I’ll try for 4.45 next time.

I always end up trying teas I secretly hope I’d like, but never end up liking…

This is another one of those.
This smells fantastic as I love me some macadamias. I could tell immediately that it would have a sweet note to it, with our without sweetener.

Made a hot mug of it. Couldn’t drink it all. The sweetness was a bit grassy. And it could be because I didn’t like Forever Nuts that I didn’t like this. I can’t tell. Come to think of it, it reminds me a bit of Matcha, but the sweetness is a more of a nutty one than a piney one. It also doesn’t have much of a “tea” taste. There’s very little “roast” taste to it, if at all. Not very strong in any sense.

Not my cup of tea for sure.

I think my verdict is, if you like Goji Pop, you’ll like this tea as well. Seeing I didnt’ like the former, I can’t say this result is surprising.

I’ll admit, I had really high expectations for this tea and, luckily, it did not disappoint! It has all the “green” (I have no other word to describe it) flavour I have come to expect from mulberry leaves and they marry beautifully with the dry sweetness of the macadamia nuts. This is another sturdy tea, I set it to steep with no sweetener and then pretty much just forget about it for a while. It just gets better and better as it brews! I think this is very similar to Pistachio Cream, but you can definitely taste that this is macadamia based. (Which is certainly not a bad thing when you love macadamias the way I do.) I think this is going to be a really nice option to add to my nut based teas and I am so glad I gave it a try!

A surprisingly nutty herbal tea. The leaves are all curled and then expand hugely in hot water. This made a vaguely sweet, macadamia flavor underlain with a hint of fruit. I think I would pick up more of this, as it’s such a change from my “normal” herbal blends or rooibos that I drink at night.

I also like the nut flavor here a lot better than in Forever Nuts or Sleigh Ride, which is interesting. Maybe it’s the absence of apple?

Finishing off the last little bit of my 1oz sample. Dry leaf is flat flakes of mulberry leaves with 1/8" pieces of macadamia spread throughout. Nose is full of white chocolate, vanilla, and brown sugar. When brewed, a grassy note also comes out. The first sip is a milky coating of the tongue with a pronounced sweetness. The macadamia is right in front followed by skim milk, sugar, and almost a light peppermint/ veggie quality. Overall a nice tisane to branch away from caffeine.

Hmm. The smell wasn’t as strong for me as some other people described. It smells sweet and complex, and is a nice light tea. I wish it were a bit more nutty… anyhow, the health benefits are so great and it is pretty yummy, so it will have a place in my cupboard. Second steep is way weaker and I think a third would be hot water. Also, the vegetal after taste is not off-putting at all.

I liked this tea…which really surprised me. The smell is nothing unique and the colour is not the most appealing (kinda murkey grey-green) but the taste is really different…I believe that the taste (and the price) comes mostly from the macadamia nuts. I would drink again but I’m not sure that after my 10g bag is done I will want any more.

Wow. I was so pleasantly surprised with this one. From the smell upon opening the sample package I was a bit discouraged. It had a very strong nut/mulberry/something I can’t exactly pinpoint smell to it. I brewed it, not having very high hopes for it. I then got distracted and forgot it was brewing, making the brew time much longer than I would have liked. I thought I’d ruined it (luckily it’s a tisane), as I thought it would be way to powerful in the first place, judging from the smell.
SUPRISE! I actually really enjoyed this one, despite my over brewing. The flavors melded together quite nicely, and the nuttiness of the tea was delightful. I was very happy I gave this one a shot, and will be buying some for future enjoyment. Hopefully I can expand on this tasting in the future when I have it right in front of me, rather than doing the tasting note a day after.

The macadamia nuts add a nice buttery richness to this tea flavor.

This is my absolute favourite tea. When I first got it, I really liked it and then for some reason stopped drinking it for a while. Had it the other day and was literally sitting there thinking, “Why did I ever stop drinking this? It’s soooo good.” It’s vegetal and earthy with the right amount of nutty. It’s kind of naturally sweet but in the perfect way. It’s a nice tea for anytime.

They say that mulberry leaves are supposed to curb your cravings and I don’t know if it’s because I usually consume a large quantity or what but I do find that after a cup, I’m not really craving for sweets/snacks.

I would definitely recommend it. It’s truly magic :)
