From DAVIDsTEA

Get busy

This honey-flavoured, honeybush tea is just about the sweetest energy-enhancer around. It has all the zest of real lemon and lemon myrtle, and all the smooth flavour of rooibos and green rooibos. But the real secret ingredient? Green maté. It provides a beautiful burst of energy for both mind and body. Strewn with calendula petals and cornflowers, this is the nectar of choice for busy bees.

Ingredients: Red and green rooibos, honeybush, green yerba maté, lemon peel, lemon myrtle, cornflower petals, marigold petals, natural flavouring.

Hmm. This was one of the first teas from Davids that I ever tried, and I remember being kind of disappointed because it didn’t taste as much like honey as I thought it would, and I didn’t get an energy boost from it. But for what it is, I don’t think it’s that bad. I get more honeybush than honey taste but it’s sweet and pleasant. Hopefully this time the energy boost will work because I’m super exhausted today and I don’t even know why! Ughhhhhh

delictable sweet notes, this is not a strong sweet tea but just nice enough to enjoy inthe morning to avoid the cinnamon rolls and enjoy some green nectar goodness for your health and soul. a suttle pick me up when the emotional tank is depleted. kinda like the feeling when you watch someone put the sprinkles and chocolate syrup onyour sundae :) But don’t take my word for it, have a cup yourself!!!

I grew up in farm country eating fresh honey, so I was really hopeful for this one. Honey flavoured tea? Without adding any sweetener? That would be nectar from the gods!

Sadly the flavour I got from it wasn’t honey. It is sweet, and I didn’t add anything to the tea, but what I got was almost a fake sweet flavour. Like those cheap dollarstore candies that attempt to taste like honey or caramel but instead are slightly off in an undefinable way and leave a weird powdered dry feeling in your mouth. The tea tasted, and acted, just like that for me. Even my cat when she tried to steal a sip of it didn’t like this one. My search for a honey tea continues.

This is my second time trying out this tea. The first was hot this time it’s a cold tea drink.

I started out with hot Honeybee. From what I remember, I didn’t really like it. It was weird round, sickly honey to it. People told me to try it out iced.

I am trying this tea again, but iced. To me it really didn’t make a huge difference, it tastes the same as the hot version, but stronger. I get a sickly honey taste with some weird herb. I really can’t describe it, but it’s not for me!

Oh god is this sweet. This is hyper mega sweet. Spoonful-of-sugar-directly-into-your-mouth sweet.

The more I sip, the more I don’t like this. Oh, it’s definitely honey. But it’s just so god damn SWEET.

Kinda makes me wish for some Choconut Oolong.

This tea is a favourite already, and I’ve only just had my first cup.

This week has been the week from hell. I couldn’t say what exactly is bothering me so much – could be having to fight my own demons and those of a good friend of mine at the same time, could be feeling stuck, could be dealing with morons I want to strangle. Whatever the reason, I’m constantly exhausted and incredibly irritable. But I went for coffee with my dad today, and he brought me the package from David’s I got in the mail.

David’s Tea, you are clearly sent by God to keep me from going on a rampage.

Today was another slow day at work and by around one, I started to get sluggish. ‘Only four more hours’ to go, I chanted. But it didn’t feel like four. It felt like a thousand. I was feeling hopeless when I realized this little package of honey bee came in my box today.

Just opening it was a joy. The smell is both sweet and a bit tart, and definitely gets your attention. I steeped myself a quick cup and already, I feel slightly less likely to punt a puppy. It has an almost vanilla-esque smell. It’s sweet without being sickly sweet. I definitely get strong honeybush, but it isn’t overpowering. Just a nice, invigorating mate. Perfect.

Day 4 of the Easter Advent calendar

So far, all but 1 of these teas I already have in my cupboard (that will change soon, I think). This is perfectly fine by me, since I’ve also rated all of these 90+ :) I lurves me some yerba mate.

Every time I have this tea I tell myself it doesn’t actually contain any honey and my mind is constantly blown. It tastes so “true to taste” that this seems impossible. I guess flavour combinations can do a lot to the brain and make you think there are flavours present that actually aren’t. It’s like…magic.

Verdict: have 100g of this in my desk drawer already.

This one is strange for me. I love the tea, once its steeped and I am drinking it, but the scent of the dry leaf is off-putting. I find the dry leaf smells like a package of honey lemon fisherman’s friends cough drops which made me think it would be a little mentholish like a cough drop. To my suprise it wasn’t. It tastes just like honey to me, without that sickly sweet thickness. It gives me a nice pick me up in the afternoon, and its nice and light as opposed to some of the other mate’s I have tried (chocolate rocket-to be exact.. that tea drinks like a meal!). I purchased some Jack Daniel’s Tenesse honey whiskey and used iced honeybee as a mix, and it was fabulous!

Well, this is one of the first teas I made a note on that I did not enjoy. I was very excited at the prospect of this since I have a love affair with honey but the entire thing I found way overpowering.

I assume it was the blue cornflowers that might have agitated my sinuses but it could have been the overall. The tea was way too overpowering with its sweetness and the aroma bothered me too much since it was, well, very overpowering. I do love the concept and ingredients for this though and I’m hoping that with what I have left I can maybe pair it with a dish… but for now it will sit on my shelf unused and unfortunately not be attempted to have more purchased.

If it bothers your sinuses it may not be worth trying again, but I’d recommend giving it a go with a much shorter steep if you’re up for it. Maybe 2 or 3 minutes and see how you feel. Sorry it’s not for you! :(

Vanilla Beans

I’d be willing to give it another go with a shorter steep since I have a few cups left but if that doesn’t take then I think I’ll ‘retire’ it.

This really does taste like honey.
Maybe a little too much though….I really have to be in the mood for a really sweet high energy drink.
Not something that I would drink everyday.
But for those days that I do feel like something really sweet, it is really good!
