Another one where I wonder why I don’t have more of it!

Thank you, Kittenna!

My mom has decided she’s going to make the tea I’ve given her so many times ..for the fifth or so time since I gave her the glass of iced tea the other night. I REALLY want her to try this one but I only have enough for 2 more cups and I don’t want to share!

This is one of those rare teas with almond in it where it actually works for my tastes, and doesn’t just come off as almond. I actually kind of get chocolate banana, with some raspberry.

And I love the maté and chicory together. It almost makes it feel like coffee but far more delicious.

Next time I order from DT, I am getting at least 50g.

I was in love with this when I first tried it. This time around, not so much. I wish it was more chocolate raspberry than it is, it’s more like just chocolate mate instead.

I just really needed some mate because I was falling asleep. We made a split second decision to check out a nature center near the river, which was fun. Lots of owls! And I’m disappointed that I never realized beavers live this far south and down into Florida too. They had one beaver, and two bald eagles! All the animals are rehab animals who can’t be released back in the wild.

I think maybe if I used a bit more leaf I might like it better. It’s good for being chocolatey, but I really miss that raspberry I tasted before. I just can’t decide if I want this to have around as a go-to mate since the one I currently like a lot, I will never purchase again sadly for my tastebuds (and not sadly for my ethos).

Yay Traveling Tea Box many thanks to Amanda for coordinating and to Sare for including this one. This initially found itself in the pass pile on two accounts I haven’t had the best experience with chocolate blends and I thought it was a rooibos (silly its dark brown not orange). However I found myself starting with a chocolate mint tea so that opened myself up for this, try all the tea!

So this is actually a mate! That makes so much more sense and explains why I am filled with rocket fuel and the nice smokeyness I noticed from the very first sip. This is a very interesting blend and I actually kinda like it. The only teas I didn’t try at Teavana were a couple of mates: My Morning, MateVana and JavaVana except when my co-workers included them in blends that they wanted everyone else to try and they were drowned in rock sugar. But this does taste a bit like how some of them smell.

I think I shall try one more tiny cup and kick up the temp and time, I am caffeine sensitive but it is very tastey and this is for science, or erm something! Maybe it will make me want to do that laundry and then I can reward myself with more tea! Don’t like this second infusion quite as much but its not bad actually its getting better as it cools and it leaves a wonderful campfire feeling in my mouth. If I was into mate this would be a winner, but if anything I am most amused at how aptly named this blend is! Thanks Sare

Well… my morning had started out well…. until I found out that the freeze-dryer was again broken at work. This suuuuuucks…. but at least I’m out of bed, and it’s not 9am yet!

Anyways, I have tried this one before as part of last year’s Advent Calendar, but apparently that was pre-Steepster for me, so now I get to review it for real! (I should have actually tried to find the Advent Calendar sample… this was from a new bag I purchased not too long ago, whereas the other stuff was from 10-11 months ago… Oh well.)

The aroma is practically identical to the chocolate raspberry Lip Smackers I used to have (and may still have, somewhere). It was never my favourite, but somehow it’s one of the few I remember the aroma of most vividly. Hopefully the tea actually tastes like the aroma, instead of the lip gloss.

Thankfully, no lip gloss flavour here. However, also not as flavourful as I was hoping. I can taste the banana-y roasted mate, and definitely chocolate, but the raspberry is kind of eluding me. Or at least, it’s not tasting like real raspberry, and more like an artificial version of it, if anything. It’s also a bit thin-tasting. I’m pretty sure I used enough tea (probably nearly 2tsp for my mug, which I think is maybe 10oz?

Not bad, but… not super tasty, either. Oh well! I feel like a comparison between this one and Butiki’s Raspberry Truffle is required. Different tea bases, of course, but similar flavouring intentions. I think Butiki’s tastes better…

ETA: Second infusion waayyyy too much later is actually surprisingly tasty. Somewhat chocolatey, but not really much raspberry flavour. Well worth it IMO, though.

Sipdown!!

FInished off my packet of this by taking it to work today. It’s pretty good for a flavoured mate, nicely chocolatey with a round fruitiness, but there are other teas I’d rather drink.

Thanks to ladykittykat for the sample (I forgot to log it in when I had it), said sample “forced” me to add some to my recent order from DAVIDsTEA….I can’t help it if the teas just “fall” into my cart and I “happen” to hit checkout. It also doesn’t hurt to have a husband who would rather see me drink tea instead of coffee.

This tea smells super chocolaty as it sits here steeping at work. I’ve already had some comments on the smell in a good way. But I refuse to share with the work people. Also smelling a hint of banana. The taste? The taste is OUT OF THIS WORLD. There is a serious taste explosion going on with each and every sip. Will have to get a larger package when I am out of this. KeenTeaThyme (KiTT) some of this is headed your way!

Last cup, and another one down!

I completely love this one though, and will eventually pick up more of this. It is way better a mate than the mate chai I had in my cupboard previously. I’m not always the biggest fan of the chocolate-and-raspberry combination, but these flavours just work together perfectly. I think it is the almond balancing everything out.

I like to match this one up with DT’s raspberry-flavoured agave. You need to be careful not to overdo it on the agave, though – I have discovered that the flavouring is quite strong, and if you go hard on the agave, you end up with tea that tastes like raspberry flavouring and, uhhh… Raspberry flavouring. So yeah. Not too much agave.

I was FINALLY able to try this one! It’s been on my list for a while…Special Thanks to the lovely DaisyChubb!!!! Thanks!

This could just be the best flavored Yerba Mate or at the very least one of the best flavored Yerba mate I have ever tried! The chocolate flavors are great and that little bit of berry is pretty awesome, too!The Chicory is just-right!

Wonderful flavor in this!~

I’m still stickly and I’m tired of feeling listless. I need a tea that will give a boost so that I may feel purposeful again. And then it hit me… Chocolate Rocket! Big hugs to Taryn for sending me such a generous sample of this maté that I’m convinced will turn my day around.

Bam! Pow! Whap! Chocolate Rocket has given my sickly listlessness a run for it’s money. I still feel unwell, but I’ll at least feel unwell getting things done. Oh, and did I mention Chocolate Rocket is also super delicious? Chocolatey, nutty, energy packed goodness in a cuppa. Take that stupid July flu!

Chocolate rocket. CHOCOLATE rocket! CHOCOLATE ROCKET!!

Imagine me running around the house with my arms extended like airplane wings chanting CHOCOLATE ROCKET! The dogs look puzzled and a little put off that I have awakened them from their afternoon slumber with tea madness, but they don’t really get me anyway.

Shift switch! So I had to be at the station by 5am so what do I reach for on these days? Definitely a mate and I was given a chance to try this one from brandy3392 So I’ve been quite impressed so far with what I have tried from DAVIDs and this is not dissapointing me either. Especially with Mates I think that sometimes companies try to cover the flavor of the mate. I have also noticed that raspberry teas I have tried don’t seem to cut it either. However the chocolate flavor and the raspberry flavors don’t taste synthetic. The accompany the roasted mate nicely. It’s really smooth and reminds me of a good chocolate raspberry coffee blend that a coffee shop I worked for served. The hint of the almond flavor is nice too. It’s seriously like drinking a chocolate raspberry truffle. It stands up to a second steeping. The empty cup aroma on this one is flippin fantastic. I will probably order this when my swap runs out. This would be a great valentine tea.

I’m amazed. It was David’s first birthday at the location near me today so I stopped in to celebrate, re-fill our Jungle JuJu and Honeybee. I decided to grab a cup of this to go, as I am trying a number of mate teas lately and find I am really enjoying them. Caffeine has no noticable effect on me, so they are really just another yummy field of tea for me.

As many know, I don’t really like chocolate in tea but have had such positive experiences today that I figured I’d try for it. And man, am I glad that I did!! This was delicious. At first, it was totally just chocolate and raspberry which isn’t a taste I liked but it totally worked. As it cooled, the chickory, chocolate and mate dominated with the raspberry fading out. I think I am going to go by 100 grams of this tomorrow, as it’s nice to have another delicious substitute for hot chocolate. Honestly, I’m so wowed. Well done David’s! Also, I think I might really like mate…woo!

This is another example of my past tea indulgences. I tried one cuppa in store about 6 months ago and then bought 100 grams of it. Of course, since then I have made approximately 0 cups and have bought probably 50 more teas. I’m glad I have finally learned to buy in moderation, but I wish that lesson had been imparted earlier.

So, for my second sup of this – this is pretty good. I’m not as fond of it as I was the first time (but then, I never am). I find the first few sips to be very bold with a hint of smoke from the chickory and the roasted mate. The flavour improves as it cools a bit, and I get more of a sweeter dark chocolate with an aftertaste of raspberry. It smells and tastes like decadent chocolate treats. There is a very bold flavour that remains on the end of the sip – this, I like. Powerful. I’ve lowered the rating slightly, but this is still a very nice tea. One of the DT successes, in my books!

A side note about mate: I’ve learned that I really prefer the roasted stuff to the green. If you’re wary of mate due to ‘grassiness’ give the roasted stuff a try!

Thanks to SimplyJenW for a sample of this one!

Chocolate teas have not always been my favorite because usually I find them lacking in something. This is a pretty unique blend of chocolate, mate, raspberry and almond. I steeped mine for 5 minutes and found the ingredients to be flavorful and fairly well balanced but I also probably used a bit more leaf than I typically would. This is definitely a fun way to start the day! I hope the mate gives me a boost, I need one this morning. :)

Hello, my love! Where have you been all my life?

I’ve always been somewhat wary about chocolate teas, but this one is surprisingly delicious!
When first opening this package, I caught a definite chocolate banana smell (which is strange when there’s no banana in the tea). However, when steeped this tea transforms into a wonderful balance of fruit, and chocolate. First I tasted a smooth chocolate flavor, quickly followed by fresh raspberry, finally the two flavors intertwine at the end for a delicious finish. The almonds aren’t exactly a noticeable flavor in this tea; however they do add a nice depth that would otherwise be missing.

This light tea is still full of flavor, but it wont weigh down your taste buds like I’ve found a lot of chocolate teas tend to do.

Thank you, Sare, for this sample!

This one smelled really good right off the bat. Maybe I didn’t steep it enough, but all I got out of it was chocolate flavored water with a carob aftertaste. I have more, and I’ll try steeping it longer because of all the great reviews, but I don’t have high hopes.

Mmmmm. It smells like carob!
Brewed up, the scent is mellower – really dark and rich and creamy.
The flavor is a little strange. The tea is much thinner than I was expecting. There is a light fruity note on top, from the raspberries.
I like the way the dark somewhat bitter chocolate and the berry flavors play together.
Not bad. Let’s see how much energy this gives me…

Thanks to Jenn for sending me a bit of this tea to try. I’ve been hearing so many wonderful things about it that I was really eager to taste it for myself.

And I’m really glad to be trying it because it’s really fantastic. Chocolate-y with a delicious raspberry note. The mate provides a solid background of rich flavor that is earthy but not overwhelmingly so.

It’s awesome.

24 Days of Tea Day #2!
Another one I had never tried, I always go for jumpy monkey. I started drinking this cup, sipping away and got completely distracted online shopping and now that it’s 3/4 gone here I am!
I expected it to be too sweet. I find mate to be naturally sweet, almost to a fault. But when I tasted it, it was slightly bland. I added a bit of milk and sugar and now we’re back in business.
I know it raspberry, but everything combined almost tastes more banana-y to me. It’s good, but I wont stock it.

Thin tasting on the sip. Raspberry sweetness present in the aftertaste. I’m not detecting any real chocolate flavour in this one. Definitely some roasted notes. Very smooth.

As this tisane cools, I am noticing a very full and quite delightful aftertaste.

This tisane may benefit from a longer infusion time.

This is the first time that the scent of a tisane or tea has triggered a memory. For some reason, the scent transported me back to the fourth year of my undergrad while I was studying for final exams in December. Specifically, I remembered how on one really strange day the weather would alternate between looking like a fresh spring day and a very violent snow storm every 10 minutes or so. Really neat! I have no idea why that connection was made in my subconscious- just thought it would be interesting to share!

1.5 tablespoons used for 375 ml

Sweetness throughout. Raspberry taste close to the end of the sip which mingles with the chocolate.

I have a sample of this thanks to DaisyChubb! I have returned from Las Vegas and even after sleeping a ton yesterday, I’m still exhausted, so I thought maybe this would be a good pick me up. I have a roasted maté with chocolate and almonds from Argo Tea that I haven’t had in a long time, but the aroma of this steeped really reminds me of it. Chocolately, almondy, roasty. There’s also another note in there that must be the raspberry, because it’s a bit berryish, but only faintly. It doesn’t stick out, really.

First I tasted chocolate and nutty almondy flavor (not almond extract/marzipan flavor, but more acutal nut flavor), but there was a note I couldn’t really identify at first that threw me off. I think it is the raspberry, but it didn’t really taste like raspberry. Then I read some reviews on here and now am definitely noticing a distinct banana flavor. It’s pretty tasty and I’m enjoying the cup, but there’s something about the fruit combo in there that’s throwing me off. I feel like I might prefer my roasted maté sans fruit. Also things that taste like bananas (that aren’t bananas) aren’t really my scene. But I’m glad I got to try this one, and I do feel a bit more awake now!

Finally a mate I can handle! This tea smells so good when you open it up… I smell chocolate oh heavenly chocolate and then the raspberries yummmm! You can also smell the mate a bit which to me smells like coffee which I don’t really care for…After I brewed it I still smell the raspberries and the a hint of chocolate.

The first taste I get chocolate, mate, then a hint of raspberry at the end, wow this is really good and I can’t wait for the energy to kick in! It is creamy and so good! As it cools I still smell the raspberry but taste banana oh interesting but I love this tea! I could still have more chocolate in it because there is never enough chocolate but oh well! I think next time I might not steep as long.

I’m not a fan of chocolate teas, but this is delicious! There’s just enough chocolate to make it velvety, but enough other things to balance it out. I’m very happy to like this one, as I was looking for another mate to add to the collection. Give this one a try, you might be surprised!

Gah, this morning. So my wife and I couldn’t fall asleep until 2:30 am or so after we were stood up at Waffle House last night. I woke up this morning and glanced at the digital clock, which read 9:49, and leapt out of bed in a panic. I had a phone interview with DavidsTea at 10…yikes! So I raced to my Dad’s office and set up, pulling up my resume, finding a phone, etc. And then I glanced at my computer’s clock. 6:43. groan I tried to stay up, but around 7:30 I tumbled back into bed to get another hour of sleep. When I woke again, I made a cup of this to soothe my nerves and wake me up, and it worked beautifully. I love the flavor of this tea, the chocolate and the almonds make it wonderfully creamy, and while I don’t get raspberry, I do get banana like so many others. Which is just fine by me, seeing as how I love raspberries, but cannot stand chocolate with them.

I don’t want to jinx anything, but I feel like the interview went really, really well. I’ll know by Friday…cross your fingers, toes, and eyes for me, Steepsterites!

Were it not for this tea, I’m fairly certain I would have fallen asleep at work today. True facts. However, due to having a co-admin to deal with two doctors in office instead of the usual one doctor and one admin (myself), I was able to finish my whole 1-L thermos today. Yay!

This one is very good, but we’re running low and I’m not sure if I want to restock or not. Hmmmm.

Edited to add: You know, I don’t think I will restock. All day, I sipped this, but I can’t really remember the taste, and while several times I said “Mmmm caffeine,” I never once went “Mmmmm, this is such a tasty tea.” Life is too short to waste on so-so tea ;)

Yay for Day 4! And I finally tasted the raspberry! I greatly enjoyed my cup of this this morning :D

I started off my day with this after a night of very little sleep. I desperately needed a pick me up as today was the Pride parade. It wouldn’t do for me to be utterly exhausted! It was just what I needed, I iced it with my new plastic ice cubes and enjoyed it on the ride into town.

Finished off my third mug of this with a Lindt truffle egg…life is good!

So this isn’t my favourite tea by any means, but it’s not bad. Drinking the last of it won’t be a chore, even though it was hidden for nearly two years! Doesn’t seem to have lost much flavour because it was sealed fairly tightly. I get chocolate notes and raspberry, but for some reason I always associate this tea with coffee. And some days, I’d rather just have the coffee. Most days I’d rather just have an Assam.

Ok maybe I wasn’t being fair to this tea, or I’m just having second thoughts as I sipdown this cup… It’s pretty good if I’m looking for a strong kick my butt sorta tea, and sometimes that’s what I need. So I’ll bump this up a bit, although I doubt it’ll return to my cupboard anytime soon.
