Yesterday was the best tea-mail day ever. I received several samples of Thank You tea from DaisyChubb (mostly David’s…yum!), a more than generous parcel of Thank You tea from our own resident Ambassador of Tea Good Will QuiltGuppy, and my order of Cinnamon Roll Honeybush. I am awed by the generosity and friendship (as well as awesome tea!) of this community. Really, it is all of us who make it such a worthwhile place. (Jason has a hand in it, too, of course!) Thank you! This is the kind of community that restores your faith in humanity.

On to the tea. This is hands down the best mate blend I have ever tasted. It is smooth, it starts with chocolate, and the raspberry note comes in at the end, but you almost have to squint your eyes to catch it. It is a seemless transition, and oh, so good. Man, I am seeing an order to David’s in the near future. Thanks to DaisyChubb for this particular sample, and thank you to my other Canadian tea swappers for enabling me to try before dropping $50 on a few guesses.

Jumbo Mug (16 oz), 2 tsp mate blend, freshly boiled water, 4 1/2 minutes. Lightly sweetened.

Breakfast tea with a little Keemun added…..

Breakfast today was Oat Bran with dried cranberries, golden raisins, a tbs of half & half and packet of sweetener. It so reminds me of the Cream of Wheat I loved as a kid. For something that is healthy, it was very good. (yes, I could do better by doing skim milk…)

Yep…a good start to the day.

Edit to add Folks….this is the 80,000th tasting note on Steepster! (about 6:40 am EDT, September 19, 2011…at least I think it was. I checked the number of tasting notes right after posting this and it said 80000….)

Tea of the early morning…..

I added some organic Keemun again. I guess I need a little more of a full flavor and the Keemun seems to make it perfect. Lucky for me, I have at least 5 versions of Keemun from several price points in my cupboard (some are samples). I think it might be time for Keemun Class…..just to see what changes with the pricetag! I love a little experiment!

Anyway, I love this one…the raspberry, the chocolate, the mate, and the chicory all rounded out with a little Keemun in my pot. Plus, the Keemun allows me to use a little less Chocolate Rocket, which means I can hold off for longer on making an order. (I really have got to stop adding so much to my cupboard……. and relax…….. and drink some tea!)

24 oz teapot, 4 tsp Chocolate Rocket (this has lots of bits with the mate), 1 1/2 tsp organic Keemun, freshly boiled water, 5 minutes. Lightly sweetened.

Tea of the morning…..

Yayyyy! I got my first David’s order yesterday. I was amazed at how fast it actually got here. And those of you in the US who have ordered, do you always have to sign with the courrier? I was surprised, but luckily home. It only took a few days to get from Montreal to NE Ohio.

Mmmmmm. Chocolate Rocket is very good. Chocolate and the end note of raspberry all wrapped up in a bundle of energy package. Thank you to DaisyChubb for sending me the sample that pushed me to order! I think I am hooked and welcome David’s into the top places I love to order.

Usual steeping paramters, except for the time of 5 minutes.

Luncheon tea….or maybe more like Elevensies?

Mama has suff to do today. She cannot afford to be sick. Time to load up the rocket! Actually, I am feeling better. I finally found a decongestant that is helping. I can’t remember the last time all I had was a cold….. Why is it that you generally suffer the longest with one as opposed to other ailments that requre antibiotics? I have to be Roadie today for Jazz Band tryouts…that means hauling an electric bass, an electric guitar, and an amp. Wish me luck!

24 oz teapot, 3 perfect tsp Chocolate Rocket, 1 perfect tsp Organic Keemun from the local Asian market, freshly boiled water, 5 minutes. Lightly sweetened.

Tea of the morning…..

I added one scoop of organic Keemun to this and it was very good! It made it taste a little more like coffee.

24 oz teapot, 4 1/2 actual tsp Chocolate Rocket, 1 tsp organic Keemun (mine is from the local Asian market), freshly boiled water, 5 minutes. Lightly sweetened.

Thanks to jessiwrites for this one too!

I can smell the raspberries and chocolate as it’s steeping. I despise fruit and chocolate together but this one has quite a high rating so I had to give it a shot.

The chocolate seems to be overtaking the scent now that’s it’s steeped and I’m waiting for it to cool.

Well I can see why most people would enjoy this tea, and it’s certainly smooth, but it’s not for me.

I love this tea… The smell from the bag, I couldn’t really detect much from this smell… Brewed, it smells so much better, I get a nutty chocolate mate.. I loved it… even better,, the taste..

Tasting it.. It was a perfect strong chocolate taste… not a sweet chocolate, more of a bitter chocolate which I loved. It was rich, not as smooth as I had hoped but seriously.. steeping this tea for a little longer than usual really REALLY makes the difference..

Now that the tea is cold I tried to have a sip, shockingly.. I like this tea cold rather than hot.. only because I can taste it more, the sweetness comes more like this,

I don’t know if I’d buy this again… I’d definitely drink it again but I wouldn’t stock up bags of this…

Amazing tea to wake up to!! I was looking forward to drinking this for the first time. Steeped it once in the morning, and it gave me so much energy from its chocolaty, coffee tasting goodness, that I infused a second time and it was just as good.

Will be drinking this almost every morning.

Holy yum. I’d heard good things about this one, and even though I try to stay away from caffeine (I don’t want to become dependent on it like so many other people I know) I had to try it. Come on, just a little bit! Peer pressure! The first 50 grams are free…

(No, actually they weren’t. Just extending the metaphor.)

Anyway, 50g of this flew to me in a box with some other fall delights yesterday. I opened the bag with some fanfare and breathed in the luxuriant aroma of what to me smells like chocolate-covered raspberries (leaning heavily toward the raspberries). I couldn’t wait to try it, but it was night, you see, and I didn’t want to mess with that.

Morning came with its rosy fingers, and I was ready to try some—and as soon as the water hit the leaf, I was intoxicated. I felt like at that point, all the scent notes separated out, putting space between the chocolate, raspberry, phantom banana (I’m glad I’m not the only one), and the roasty mate. This was going to be good, I can feel it.

And oh, was it. Smooth, seamless intertwining of chocolate and raspberry, with phantom banana swirling in. This is truly one of the most fabulous teas I’ve ever tasted, and it’ll be hard to limit myself to 1 cup a day. (Speaking of which, I was intrigued to see how it would affect me. And I could notice a bit of a peppiness difference, but not anything astronomical. Good to know.)

Yum. Yum. Yum.

w00t I could always use a tasty maté. Maybe my senses are really messed up right now, but I swear this smells more like chocolate banana than chocolate raspberry, and it even tastes like that too. I can also taste warm toasty almonds.

After this has cooled down quite a bit, I can definitely both smell and taste the chicory. Not my favourite flavour, but it works really well with the chocolate and maté.

Glad I bought this one, but it won’t be a staple in my household.

Oh man, I am SO SO SO behind with life here. One more paper and I’ll be done for the term. Just sipped this down the other day. Luckily, I finally started getting raspberry out of this in maybe the last three cups or so. Would I buy again? Nah, roasted maté is a tricky one for yours truly.

Day 2: Advent calendar. Honestly I woke up yesterday with a wish for something chocolate. Out of habit I went to my tea shelf to see what I had from David’s to fit the bill. That is until I remembered the Advent calendar I had set in the living room by the Christmas tree. I opened day two and almost gasped in surprise at what was behind the door. My wish answered in the shape of “Chocolate Rocket”.

The first thing that escaped my lips was "Hmm…I have never tried this one before. What luck! After clapping my hands together in a pleased manner off I went to the kitchen to brew this. (And this is before I read the ingredients) I waited the recommended time, poured the elixir into my Glass perfect mug and took a sip.

Ahh.. Chocolate. The sweet aromatic quality of chocolate and almond. But.. what do I taste in the back warming up the works? Raspberry. It was like enjoying a Lindt Chocolate Raspberry truffle. All mellow and rich. After the wonderful euphoria, it was then that I took the time to read over the ingredients. It was like a pleasant surprise all over again.

For a first time trial of this tea it was so worth it. I hope everyone is enjoying their Advent calendars as well and are also experiencing the magic of the unexpected sample charms.

What else can be said? It’s chocolatey and nutty and amazing! Thanks so much to DaisyChubb for the sample!

I don’t drink much mate. I always enjoy it though :)

1 TB for 450mL water, bare.

About twenty-odd years ago, when I started university (in a different province, far from home), Second Cup was making a raspberry chocolate flavoured coffee. I drank a lot of that and felt like I could do anything.

Guess what the scent of DavidsTea Chocolate Rocket reminds me of?

So yeah, on scent alone, I’m smilin.

Then I sipped.

BAM! Very much as described in the ad copy. I geneally don’t care for roasted mate, but I am loving this blend. It’s quite intense brewed as a tisane and almost as dark as coffee. I’m not sure I could handle the flavours if I brewed this in a gourd, but it would be worth a try.

Refreshing. Lives up to the hype. Not a delicate drink. I’ll report later on any mate buzz.

1.25 tsp for 250mL water @ 98 C. Loooooong steep; I left the bag in while drinking. Mate can do that. Drunk bare.

Sipdown, and some air got into the packet, so this blend is neither as fresh-tasting nor as fragrnt as it was .. but manohmanohman, is ever potent. Lots of roasted mate notes but very little chocolate or raspberry when this gets stale. However, I feel like I am ready to take off — without the edgy jitters that can come from coffee. Remembering now why I liked mate so much; gonna get me some Jumpy Monkey later today. Vroom vroom.

1.5t tsp for 300mL water, bare.

Seriously velvety yum. The chocholate, raspberry and oasted mate are all intense, but they are also well-balanced. Refreshing. Still haven;t gotten up the nerve to try this in a gourd.

Currently drinking the second steep of this one, and it was delicious. First steep was considerably better, but the second steep still has some of that wonderful roasty raspberry almond flavor. I generally don’t drink a whole lot of caffeine, but I would consider ordering this for days when I need a bit of a boost.

Yum, Chocolate Rocket… you are pretty dang tasty. I really despised the second steep, though, but I’m not blaming that on the tea. I made it at work, and I had to use a shitty microwave and awful tap water. I was hoping it would be alright, but I was disappointed.

Not your fault, Chocolate Rocket. I still love you.

Chocolate Rocket is my first tea of the day, and it is fantastic, as always. In fact, I am going to have another cup right now.

Just tried this in the complementary tea for one DT sent us to make up for a mildly bad experience at one of their stores. Did I mention that they also included 60g each of Black Walnut and Chocolate Rocket as well? Wonderful customer service, guys, they’ve really set themselves apart from other companies with this.

The tea is fantastic, just chocolaty enough, and the chicory and light raspberry works very well. I do need to get a teaball/strainer of sorts, as my cup had quite a few floaters (I just put the tea loose into the pot because, well, I’m lazy).

My first maté… but since this is quite heavily flavoured, I don’t think I can really tell what maté itself tastes like :P. I believe most chocolate lovers will like the rich chocolate flavour and nuttiness in this tea. For me, I LOVE chocolate but I am not such a big fan of nuts… in fact, I am often bothered by the intense nuttiness or coconuttiness in blends by DAVIDsTEA.

I was shocked to know that this tea contains raspberry, cos I could taste nothing like that in my tea! :( Perhaps the small sample in 24 Days of Tea didn’t contain enough raspberry… there’s still some tea leaves left in the small tea tin and I hope I will be able to taste raspberry next time.

Mate and I are friends, and chocolate and I are best friends, and I can’t say I have any complaints about raspberries either. This was destined to be good.
Even though its 30 degrees out, I made some of this and enjoyed every sip. Tastes exactly like you’d expect- chocolate raspberry. Chocolate is the initial flavour, with raspberry following towards the end of the sip. Mate adds some roastiness.
This tea screams to be drank in the afternoon. It’s tasty and fruity and will get you through that point in the afternoon where you seem to lose steam.

Took my big new Bodum travel press to work the other day filled with this. It was a late closing shift and I needed all the energy I could get.

I was unsure how this would do in the travel press, since the leaves stay in the press until you’re finished the beverage. This seemed like a recipe for oversteeping to me. Luckily it actually melded the flavours together better than a regular steeping. By the time I went to drink this several hours after steeping it, the temperature was perfect and there was SO much berry flavour and the roastiness of the mate really came through.

As a snack with this tea, I ate a cranberry almond granola bar. It was a perfect complement to the tea.

As for the “rocket” part of this blend, I did feel more awake for the rest of the evening (even once I got home and wanted to go to bed, haha)

I had a cup this morning, and even though I had a few mishaps it was still tasty. First of all I brewed it a little stronger than I had meant to, and then I realized I didn’t have any milk. It was too strong to drink straight, and I didn’t want to dump it, so I ended up adding a little caramel toffee vanilla coffee creamer that I had in the fridge. It was very rich, a little strange, but not too bad and still drinkable. An odd combination, but not altogether terrible :P

What?? How did I not review my favorite tea?
I just came on Steepster to just add how much I love this tea, even though I reviewed it already.. but apparently I didn’t review it.

I first came across this tea and got a measly 30g and loved it. I saved it for long crappy days I’d have at work. I saved the last scoop and drank it in the airport after dealing with stress with immigration and moving into a new country.

In my recent DT’s order I got 100g of this tea. I missed it so much.

DRY: I don’t want to go down and fetch my tin to see how it smells because I’m just going to brew more. I don’t need more, I want to savor this cup. It smells good though. Trust me.

STEEPED: smells chocolately, roastedly smell with a hint of sweet. A brown amber colour brew.

TASTE: mild chocolate – very different than the earthy thick chocolate you get in black tea blends. After that, there is a wonderful balanced mix of a roasted taste (not spicy).. the almond or the mate? Then as it goes down, it tastes sweet with a hint of raspberry.
The tea is overall light and easy to drink, but also full of flavour. There is no bitterness.

RECOMMENDATIONS: If you want something different. You want a morning/afternoon tea to get you through the day – this tea will keep you up at night from the mate. It’s not your typical chocolate black tea. It is only mildly fruity, so some fruit tea peeps might not be 100% into it. Tea lovers who dislike bitterness of black and greens would love Chocolate Rocket. If you’ve tried mate and didn’t like it, give this one a sampling.

COMMENTS: Love this tea. I felt crappy that I ran out of this tea and complained to my husband that I want to order more. This is the best mate tea I’ve had.

This tea I’ve added to my permanent collection – please keep selling it DT, as I will be buying more when I run out!

I had an insomnia night, which happens rarely. I was up 5am commenting on discussion boards and studying my korean – at least it was productive! Now I’m sleepy and had to bust out this tea. Not that I’m complaining, love this stuff! The raspberry flavor is yum!

Overall this tea is pretty good. I think the flavours of chocolate and rasberry goes really well in this mate. I’m not sure how energizing it is for me, I dont feel it, but as I had said before, caffeane does not have an effect on me. If this tea ends up having an affect on me maybe I will make it my moning tea, but if not than idk. This tea is okay but it doesnt really speak to me. Its just meh. I might repurchase if im in the mood for it, it does have a nice blendy flavour to it.

Wow. After drinking this tea I updated my little profile to reflect it as a new top 10 tea for me. I’ve had many chocolate flavored mate’s from different places, but this one is my new favorite. The chocolate is smooth with rich almond undertones, and there is a hint of that raspberry sweetness enmeshed within its rich taste. This tea will surely keep my spirits up as I tackle 7 hours of class today. Onward ho!

Wow! This is up there now with my most favorite teas!
I’m so so glad I went with my instinct and bought 20g to try today. I couldn’t keep my eyes open, and even after a few sips I am wide awake and energized.

First of all, it is the best Mate I have ever had. The flavours compliment the woodiness perfectly. I do taste the raspberry, but not seperate from the chocolate. It tastes like those raspberry- chocolate oranges at christmas. Terrys!

Okay, now that it has cooled a bit, I get that banana bread taste others are talking about. It only came out after cooling a bit though, interesting! This has a most lovely aftertaste, wow I can’t wait for my next cup. I guess I should finish this one first haha.

I did break my rule and bought tea before my birthday, but it was just a little wee bit so it can’t hurt right? n_n;

Bumping up the rating a little because this tea has a permanent place in my cupboard.
Drinking my giant travel mug full of this is slightly helping cut through the gloom and doom of this foggy, muggy GREY day. I was home sick all day yesterday (one of those whatamIdoingwithmylife days _) and now it’s supposed to be GREY all week. Normally I’m happy to have a huge glass doors so I can see outside, but there is nothing I want to be seeing right now.

I am going to need some tea to try to put a smile on my face!!!
So today, I’m getting a hint of raspberry and a nice dose of chocolate chicory.

Wake me up tea! In all senses of the phrase.

I love this tea and drink it every morning, but I always wondered what it wouldbe like with a dash of cream!
Heaven? Creamy and milk chocolatey?

No, my friends, no. It is sour and the flavour is ruined. So do yourself a favour and learn from my mistakes – keep your Chocolate Rocket clean.

The more you know…

I should learn not to putt ratings in my reviews, because when people go back and read my reviews and see that it’s not the rating I said previously… THE MADNESS!

I was happy to revisit this tea, but I’m sending the rest off in a swap to maison ^^ I will repurchase at a later date, as this tea is amazing (even if it does taste like banana bread without meaning to)

So I’m not sure why I can’t rate this a full 100, but I just can’t!
Anyways, it’s high enough haha.

On my third steep this morning. The second cup (4 min 1st and 2nd steep) was just as flavourful (more almond/raspberry), and the third cup (5 min) is getting a bit weaker. Not just tasting like hot water weak though, still pleasant!

I would try one more steep if my bladder could take it. maybe this afternoon :)

Edit: Didn’t quite hold up to a 4th steep! Pretty watery, so I threw in some chocolate rooibos to give it some body and it’s lovely :) Might keep that in mind as a way to use up the rest of my rooibos – save it for my 4th steeps! haha

My morning cup!

Paired with Dad’s Goodie Rings for Breakfast.

My healthy choice :)
