The Immunizer

Herbal Tea by DAVIDsTEA

Boost it
This mild, minty tea is all about boosting your immune system. It’s got echinacea and ginger, two traditional cold preventers. It also has astralagus, the Asian immuno-darling. And lemongrass, cinnamon and mullein leaf. Plus invigorating spearmint and rosemary, antiviral elderberry, and Vitamin-C-filled rosehip and orange peel. Will it really make you invincible? We hope so. Caffeine-free.

Bleeeeehhhhhh this is disgusting! Even with a cold it’s really gross-tasting. I figured I may as well try it now though… perhaps it can help!?

Pretty much all I can taste is mint. And I got gross sediment in my sip because I didn’t use a Finum infuser (sooooo glad five(?) more will be in my possession as of his weekend).

Ewwwwww this is so gross. So so so so gross. I hate peppermint.

I am currently forcing myself to drink this vile concoction simply in the hopes that it will mysteriously help me feel better… or something…. I’ll be hard-pressed to re-steep this one though.

Ugh. Finished. Gag.

Anyhow, sipdown! and thanks to Raritea for this one! (And don’t worry, I took some knowing full well I’d hate it. But I was just so darn curious anyways!)

Thank you Raritea for this one. Again, not sure that my taste buds are back to normal but today, this is a decent cup of tea :)I’ve had a few steeps of this this afternoon and so far it seems to be doing the trick. The mint is nice :)

Thanks to Raritea for sampling some out!!
This is nice and light. I didn’t steep long, and didn’t get much mint. It was more of a citrus herbal drink. Definitely lemongrass in there! I could have sworn there was some licorice or perhaps anise, not too much though.
Overall, I quite enjoyed my cup. Something I’d consider picking up more of.

So, this isn’t something I’d just reach for but it’s pretty inoffensive for an herbal remedy tea. I appreciate DT keeping the cold teas somewhat more interesting than most. I was in store today and should have grabbed some Cold 911, because the boyfriend woke up sick today and now tonight, in the middle of a paper due tomorrow, I’m feeling it! Oh no. I’m glad I have this on hand. With some added chunks of fresh ginger and steeped for eight minutes, it’s a pretty noxious brew but in a way that feels healthy and not unpleasant. It helps me feel a little less fuzzy and out-of-focus. Mostly mint and lemongrass flavours.

I’ve got to get myself off Steepster when I have impending schoolwork doom. I tell myself I’m not allowed on Facebook but just wind up checking Steepster non-stop!

mmmm warm and smooth. I only steeped it for about 5 minutes though, I didn’t read the directions on the bag. Next time I’ll leave it in for longer but this is smooth and minty and makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside <3

Tried this tea this morning, loved the minty dry smell, I love mint teas. However the smell was a lot more potent than the actual tea. To me, this tea tastes almost exactly like the one by Celestial Seasonings, Echinacea Complete Care. Must be an overlap in the ingredients…anyways, mint comes out strongly, with the rest of the herbs nice and mellow. Would feel excellent on a sore throat, and def will force this one on my bf when he is sick! As for me, caffeine doesn’t sit well most of the time, so I will probably take this to class a few days a week due to its caffeine-free ness.

Overall, a nice tea, but rather disappointed that it tasted so similar to a different tea I had had previously.

UPDATE: Now that is is cooled off, I am more impressed, as it is not going bitter (like the other one I tried did) and it almost is becoming more complex, it seems a few more flavors are coming out. Can’t really identify them, but I like it!

I’ve had a steadily building headache all day, and saw the migraine thread in the discussion. So I decided to bust out my most minty tea..which is this one. I haven’t had this since January when the boyfriend and I were ridiculously sick haha. This is not a bad tea, minty with a sweet edge to it as well, but it still is a tea I will keep reserved for when sick. However, if it helps my headache, it might be used for that too! Also, this reminds me that I need to pick up some straight peppermint tea or spearmint at some point. See previous notes on this tea!

Me and the bf got either food poisoning or the stomach flu, so I’m making a cup of this after being unable to move all morning/sick all night :( hope it gives me a bit of energy and helps my tummy

So everyone in the house is getting the stomach flu… So this tea was required today. Hoping I don’t get it, it’s a darn nasty one. I steeped it for me and mom to try to protect us both, steeped for quite a while probably 8 or 9 mins. Max mint! See previous notes on this tea.

Drinking this again, I am finding this a nice mellow minty tea that is working for me in the morning, refreshing but not overpowering. Also enjoy that it makes me feel like I won’t get sick haha. See previous notes

Man oh man, tonight I am craving caffeine SOO BAD. A nice white tea would suffice..however, my stomach is still meh to caffeine lately, so I refrained…barely…and am drinking this tonight. It’s crazy windy and getting cold out, so might as well take some preventative measures!!

Still nice and minty and overall a decent cuppa :)

Put this in my timolino today, hoping to ward off any cold bugs! A member in my group project was coughing and sick yesterday, so time to be proactive! Also, I find minty teas do ok in my travel mug. See previous notes on this tea.

Getting primarily the minty spearmint flavour. The taste of the spices trail at the end of the sip. I feel that this tisane should be less complex. I am, once again, getting confirmation that I am sensitive to the after-taste of the lemon grass. I am not detecting any floral or citrus flavours in this blend.

Bought 26 grams of this last weekend. Finally gave it a go this morning as the beau and I both woke up stuffy and have been fighting half-colds for a few weeks. I was taken in by the dry smell…I am a mint nut, so this seemed right up my alley. Steeped, it’s less exciting smelling. I don’t really like lemon and mint combined, so I don’t know what I was thinking when I got this.

The flavour was, to me, largely lemongrass with a hint of mint. I couldn’t distinguish any other ingredients. I like all the things that are in this, but together they don’t make anything impressive. I will use what I have, but I have no motivation to get more. I find DT lately has had a lot of less than impressive teas for me. I don’t know if I am trying things that aren’t really my “cuppa tea” or if there have just been less than stellar selections. Anyway, this is decent enough, but no superstar. Much like Some Velvet Morning…

Sick again so having some of this. I had the beau add extra mint – all I can taste is berry with a mint background. None of the lemongrass I had last time. Hopefully it helps!

I have to be honest, I made a pot of this simply because I wanted to keep playing with my new teapot. Loooove my new teapot. Loooooooove.

I got up to make tea, and as the water was boiling I decided to unload and reload the dishwasher, so I just let it steep until it was done.

Ahem. Anyway, my stomach was in a bit of weird place, so this really hit the spot. It also helped banish some of my allergies and for that, I will always be grateful.

This is one I tend to reach for when I’m just craving something light and refreshing. I love this one….we need to restock! It always makes me feel better.

Another favorite for when I’m sick…although all of the sick-remedy teas seem to have the same ingredients, just a few new twists. But it keeps me from getting bored of tea when sick, so shrug

Anyway, this is one my wife and I both enjoy, and it certainly does soothe my throat, which is very good in my book. I had this yesterday and might have to make another pot today!

Tried this in store today. Usually I’m a little wary of cinnamon in my tea, but it worked well with the other flavours. More peppy than a cold remedy usually is (maybe because I unintentionally steeped it for almost twenty minutes, oops?), very enjoyable and gave me a boost for the rest of the day. Want to try another cup of it before I decide whether or not to add it to the roster.

The immunizer and I share a love-hate relationship and I am torn over whether I’m sad or happy to see it go. I am down to half a tin and 3/4 of the tiny tin that I keep at work. I suppose I could try and stock up on what’s left in the ‘Last Chance’ section of David’s Tea, but at the same time, perhaps there comes a time when one must let go. It has been step two of my cold regiment for a while now, and I drink it because I believe in it. Though, it will soon be no more.

The dry tisane is nothing to look at. It resembles an Italian seasoning mixture that I once had in my cupboard, or something I’ve seen on the ground during a walk through the woods on a dry day. The scent is reminiscent of the musty aroma of fall. Though, there is a subtle life that is saved by the hint of spearmint and a wafting air of lemongrass and orange peel, and maybe a hint of ginger if I’m not imagining it. Mostly, I just smell Echinacea.

When the tea is first steeped, I smell mostly spearmint. That’s okay, because I like spearmint, but as the steeping goes on, the scent of Echinacea becomes dominant and I think of hard liquor. I can’t say which liquor though, mostly because I’m not a hard liquor drinker. I’m just sure I’ve smelled it somewhere before. The second scent is lemongrass. Though, I strain to detect it. As time goes on, the orange peel comes into play and I think there’s a hint of ginger screaming for attention from somewhere far in the distance.

The liquor is frightening to look at. It looks mean and swampy—not to be mistaken with muddy. It is a clear brown liquid with a hint of green that reminds me of mildew or algae. At this point, all I can smell is Echinacea. I strain to find other scents and imagine that there’s a small hint of ginger and orange peel as the scent travels further into the depths of my senses, but I’m not sure if it’s only wishful thinking.

The first sip tastes mildly of ginger and mullein leaf, masked by Echinacea and followed with a splash of spearmint and the subtle notes of lemongrass. I do not believe these flavours were meant to coexist. They have a purpose though, so I tolerate it as best as I can. As the tea cools, the antiseptic flavour of Echinacea dominates, resulting in less enjoyment and faster, more frequent sips to finish it while it’s still warm.

Okay, so Echinacea is not my favourite scent or flavour and this is not my favourite tea. I only drink it for remedial purposes and that’s where the rating is saved. It is for this reason that I am sad to see it go. As far as the taste and the smell, I’m sure I can live without it. I’m a little disheartened though. I can only hope that David will find a way to re-create this concoction without Echinacea. Most of the ingredients in this tisane are proven immune boosters and some are equal to or even better than Echinacea. I would like to find something similar to replace it with, preferably a loose-leaf tea.

It also wouldn’t hurt to make it taste a little better.

I drink this tea a lot I find it very soothing. I bought it for the immune boosting potential but find I drink it just because.

I tried this yesterday at home, i am not sure i like it, it is a very light tea with a little hint of spearmint, you really have to steep this on for a long time to get the full benefits on the bag it says between 5 and 8 minitues, I would suggest to leave it for the full 8 other wise is it pretty mellow, I will be sure to try it again but i prefer cold 911

Tastes mostly like a blend of spearmint and lemongrass. Has a very mild flavour. I usually don’t enjoy lemongrass as much, but it blends nicely with the spearmint for a generally soothing experience. I think it will be a nice tea for a sore throat day, but I usually prefer something more flavourful for an every day type of tea.
