Fruit Green Blend by DAVIDsTEA

A new tradition

This popcorn tea is better than the real thing. First of all, it has no calories. Second of all, it’s sweetened with maple and apple. Third of all, it has green tea, which studies (well, ok, experience) say is the ideal brew for keeping you quietly alert throughout a late-night flick. Great for thrillers, dramas, westerns or comedies. Drink it at home or smuggle it into the theatre.

I love popcorn. I love tea. I love popcorn flavored Jelly Beans. Yet, somehow, popcorn flavored tea is a no go for me. I should have figured this out after trying 52teas popcorn tea. But, reading reviews made me want to try it. Oh how stubborn am I…

The dry tea smells strangely fruity and has a suspiciously large amount of apple and tiny amount of green tea leaves. It also has a few large “popcorns” in the mix. I have to admit that the lingering smell does somehow remind me of candied popcorn.

Brewed, it is a beautiful pale yellow… that smell just like popcorn. I kid you not. Popcorn all the way. I am still at awe at how apples, scarce tea leaves, and a piece of popcorn produce this popcorn brew. The taste is exactly like caramel popcorn. Sadly, I didn’t like it. I couldn’t even bring myself to go past a few sips. Popcorn should not be in tea form. That is my conclusion. Though, some people seem to really enjoy this concoction. Good for you liquid popcorn enjoyers!!

I honestly wish I enjoyed this, the flavor is really well obtained. I am not going to rate it because it is well made, I will acknowledge this, but I did not like it all…

Needless to say, I have a nearly full 50g pouch if anyone is interested in swapping. : )

Thanks TheTeaFairy for this big sample!

I must be the LAST person on Steepster to taste and review Movie Night!
EVERYONE has written reviews except moi! (and Miss Piggy)

I’m celebrating the occasion of being able to open my window tonight to let in FRESH AIR!
There’s no smoke from the forest fire down low this evening and having this little pleasure is such a treat after being cooped up indoors for the past 3 days.

Movie Night it is (I told myself)! Popcorn and fresh air!

Instead of watching movies, I watch the next Food Network Star and that sort of thing that I save on my DVR.

The scent of the tea steeping was hard to resist. I wanted to stop and drink the tea before it was ready…that’s just how good it smelled. Like walking past a hot caramel corn stand. Irresistible!
I suppose you COULD drink this without sweetening. Why, I have no idea? Adding a little bit of sweet to the slightly salty tea created the best caramely, salty sweet popcorn flavor… full of childhood memories and guilt free. Free I say…free…free…free! What a beautiful word!
One of the greatest gifts that tea has given me is a way to satisfy my sweet tooth cravings without packing on calories.
I knew this wasn’t exactly caramel popcorn flavored. But being a tea…to get this much flavor this close to that movie memory in a blend …well…I think it was tasting pretty cool.

I’ll share a little secret with you…
My first date in my whole life was to the movies in Los Gatos,CA.
I was a Freshman in High School and went with a Senior (big deal) to see Goldfinger with Sean Connery. We held hands. That’s all! (thankful about that too). Love the movies!

Wow, this smells exactly like buttery, caramel corn! Yum! I really want to make some popcorn right now. But I’ll settle for having this tea instead. Or at least I’ll try this first and then see if the craving is still around. ;)

The ratio of green tea leaves to apple and popcorn pieces is about 1:20, so I’m interested to see how tea-like this is. I also probably could have gotten two cups out of this sample, but I just dumped the whole thing in my strainer without measuring. :P

The brewed tea aroma is also caramel corn with an added component of green tea. I’m not sure the combination is all that appealing. The other popcorn/caramel corn teas I’ve tried have had black tea bases. The taste will be the deciding factor though.

Wow, this flavor was completely unexpected from that aroma! It doesn’t taste like caramel corn at all. It also doesn’t taste anything like buttery popcorn. Instead, it tastes exactly like caramel apples! I guess that’s what DAVIDsTEA gets for putting tart apple in here and trying to pass that off as popcorn. Surprise! Apple tastes like apple!

This is actually pretty incredible. I’ve never had an apple tea that really tastes like genuine apple. And the addition of the caramel takes it from nice apple tea to awesome treat tea! For all you people out there combining Red Leaf Tea’s green apple matcha with caramel matcha in hopes of making a caramel apple tea, try this instead!!! It’s not what it promises (because it tastes nothing like popcorn), but that doesn’t mean it’s not a fantastic tea! It just needs to be renamed. :)

Thank you Ninavampi for sharing this delightful surprise!!!

Will Work For Tea

This was another nearly-full 50 gram bag from Ninavampi!

The dry leaf smells soooooooooooooooo good! I already don’t care if I don’t like this brewed, because I love what it smells like in the bag! It smells very sweet, like caramel and maple. I’m also getting some chemicalish smell, but honestly that doesn’t bother me.

Brewed up 2.25 tsp in 6 oz of slightly cooler water for the maximum 7 minutes. The tea liquor is a slightly murky yellowish color. I immediately put some rock sugar in to maximize the sweetness. This tastes more like a candied apple to me. I get the mapley caramel in the beginning of the sip, but it ends on a slightly tart apple note.

I really like this one! It’s definitely different from other teas I have in my cupboard. I’m interested in trying this one cold.

SIPDOWN! Thanks to courtney for this sample in our swap. Probably not a tea that i would ever choose to pick up on my own. In dry form this smells like candied, caramel popcorn. I steeped this for a long time, as i accidentally got distracted with someone else. The good thing being that this is one of those 5-7 min steeps, so it’ll take a bit of a beating i think.

In liquid form, this smells like caramel popcorn but only the initial taste carries that popcorney kinda of taste. The end of the sip is more like candied apple. While i’m not overly a fan of this, it’s a decent blend and i’m glad to have tried it. Thank you for this one courtney!

25/12/2012 gonna go see 3 movies today!

popcorn balls. it smells like popcorn balls. and the scent is strong, because i had the teabag ready and just sitting here for most of the morning and even though i was drinking two other delicious teas THIS in the scent i most noticed over and over again.
once brewed, most of this tea is in the nose. over and over i smell the tea more than i taste it. though as it cools it tends to get an interesting buttery kind of flare or texture?
i don’t know about you but this tea has very little actual tea leaves in it. it’s mostly a fruit tea with a sprinkling of green tea added. which is nice when you wanna mellow out a bit. so i will try to keep that in mind. this tea is not just for the movies!
salty maple and buttery apple. nom nom nom. i should think of it more like a baked desert tea. i guess i’ve started to realize how much i like apple teas. cuz i seem to have a lot of them. and also i eat the real thing everyday.

KeenTeaThyme

I had really hoped to like this tea but there is something off about it. I normally love popcorn, and maple, plus apples…just maybe not all at once. There were too many competing flavors for this to be enjoyable. I tried a sample from a previous order, but did so AFTER I purchased two bags. As a result, I have one unopened bag for sale:
http://keenteathyme.teatra.de/store/products/

And the rest of the other bag is off to my tea sister Sare – if she wants it. :)

I did my first tea smuggle into the movies! Getting to drink non-concession stand tea was awesome (plus I like the mini adrenaline rush from sneaking in “outside food and beverages”). I love buttery popcorn but I always regret it afterwards when I get that am-I-hungry-or-full? feeling.

So the first flavor I tasted was coconut, which was completely unexpected. Then the tart apple flavor came through, followed by a hint of popcorn. As it cooled the coconut faded and popcorn got a bit stronger. I think I would like it more if there was more popcorney flavor and less tart apple, but I did enjoy it. Thank you whatshesaid for letting me try this!

Second cup of the day on this busy day. I would’ve liked to have saved this one for an at-home movie night, but it smells too good to wait for that. And I think I will have just enough left to have another cup. :) The dry leaves smell exactly like caramel popcorn, yummy! I was a little surprised to find out that there are apples in this one, and there sure are a lot of them. This tea actually tastes mostly like the apples to me when it’s hot. There is a sweet maple finish, and a really quick aftertaste of popcorn. As it cools the buttery popcorn flavor comes out more. In fact, I like this tea much better after it has cooled. It does taste like caramel popcorn! Thank you whatshesaid for this sample! :)

-Dry blend has pieces of dried apple, popcorn and long thin green tea leaves.
-Dry blend smells like caramel popcorn. Tea liquor aroma is of apples with a caramel maple scent.
-Tea liquor is a clear dark yellow color.
-Tart apple flavor with a sweet maple finish. Short buttery popcorn aftertaste.
-Best with sweetener.
-Very good tea. Flavor is reminiscent of caramel popcorn when cooled.

Goodness gracious great BALLS OF POPCORN! This smells like the movie theatre, both dry and liquor. It tastes like popcorn balls and apples and heaven. I had no idea apples went so well with popcorn. It’s like kettle corn with a hint of sweet apple flavoring. I added a touch of german rock sugar and a pinch of salt. I am literally gulping this down. I need to order this pronto. Thanks Jenn!

*I steeped the recommended 2 tsp per 8 ounces for 7 minutes at 200 degrees.

I lost track of time while reading and accidentally steeped this for 16 minutes. To my surprise it’s not bad, the extra time just gave it a bolder apple flavor. Almost tastes like I steeped buttered popcorn in apple juice.

So yummy.

Disclaimer: I don’t like green tea or caramel popcorn >.>

That all said, I enjoyed this tea. Not enough to restock, I think, but I’m glad I tried it. It is tasty, if not a little weak. In my experience re:steeping times, less is more, so I only steeped this for four minutes instead of the recommended 5-7, which might be why it’s weak, but most people think this is kind of weak, so who knows. I’m really enjoying the maple, I love maple. I managed not to screw up the green in this cup, yay!

Overall, a tasty tea, but not worth keeping on hand for me.

Another one bites the dust…yay!

Edit: The more of this I drank, the less I liked it. It just is not my cup of tea.

Thanks whatshesaid!

I’m happy I got a chance to taste this one as it sounded interesting. When I smell it, it reminds me of nuts, but when I taste it I get a little bit of caramel corn, followed by apples.

Even as a fruity/nutty green it is very enjoyable, and seeing as it’s about 95% add-ins, I imagine it barely has any caffeine in it either!

Yes! This is a winner. I want more of it when I run out. 20g would do…

Oh, also I totally broke my tea buying hiatus. :O I was having a rough day, and I thought if I went into a Davids to buy a matcha spoon (so I could try my matcha samples easier) then I’d be happier! But then I grabbed Ceylon Spring and Kokomo Green.

Ummm… I technically didn’t order anything though, right? Riiiiight? /0\

I’m going to finish drinking this and go to bed. I didn’t see more than a few little green leaves in the mix so I doubt this would keep me up. I’m re-reading the Dark Tower series. It’s both awful and wonderful at the same time. Books are confusing.

Mmm this one smells like caramel apple or oatmeal cookies (so says the fiance).

This one is actually quite good, which I wasn’t expecting. I don’t know why it’s called Movie Night since it no way does it remind me of movies or popcorn. It’s like an unsweetened apple caramel sweet.

Thanks jessiwrites for yet another awesome one!

yummm buttery! I’m drinking the sample of this that elizabeth229 sent me (along with bunches of Pumpkin Chai and a sample of Oh Canada). My first sip is a freshness and a buttery feeling and flavor. I taste the green tea, it’s a grassy tea which I really like. I think it’s too hot to taste the apple and maple right now so I will update this in a little bit :)

update—> ok so I still don’t get any apple flavor but I get a LITTLE LITTLE bit of maple. I love the smell of this tea, but the taste is just kind of whatever to me. I think I’d reach for it more if I wasn’t in the mood for a flavored tea (which is like, never). It’s not one I will re purchase but I will enjoy what I have of it.

I went to David’s Tea specifically for this tea today, and it happend to be the Tea of the Day. The smell of caramel popcorn overpowered even the Kernels popcorn shop literally around the corner from David’s.
I’ve got to admit that I would probably have walked away with this one regardless of what I’d been looking for.
I’m steeping it a little heavy and at the top end of the suggested steep time because the sample I tried in store was a touch on the weak side. I’ve also added maple syrup instead of sugar. Which may prove to be a mistake, because I don’t know how much to use. We’ll see. It smells like the popcorn balls my uncle Tom made for me when we were very little and he was using the cabin at Clear Lake at the same time we were. One rainy night, he made up some popcorn and forbade us from eating it. Then he busted out the marshmallows, butter and microwave and we watched in awe as the marshmallows expanded to envelop the popcorn. Then he buttered his hands, formed the popcorn mixture into balls and handed one each to my brother and I. To say that my brother and I thought we were eating little bits of heaven doesn’t even say enough about it.
He never made them again and my parents never even tried to.

Now on to the tea.
The smell is overwhelming, even from my little 8oz mug.
It’s quite clear, with just a tint of honey in there, which I don’t care for. I like my tea to look like something.
Holy MACKINAW!! I just dipped my finger in to see if it was cool enough for me to sip, and my FINGER tasted like caramel corn. More, I think, like double hit butter corn from Kernels, actually. Wow, it’s tasty. I may be in for a treat. (Alternately, I may have steeped/sweetened it too aggresively.) We’ll see.
Mmm, mmm, mmm, wow.
No, it’s good.
It has more body than I expected it to. It’s like drinking a thin pudding (which sounds way grosser than it actually is.) And the body totally matches the smell in intensity. Next time I may actually back off a little bit.
Wow, Movie Night. You’re really making this day (dreary enough that it seems like evening all day and only 7 degrees outside. Come on, stupid weather, seriously??) seem a lot less sucky.
Yum, yum, yum.

I had to try this. It just sounded so wacky. And I’m incredibly embarrassed to say that I absolutely love it! It really does taste like a salty caramel popcorn. I could not drink it fast enough. I made my husband and 13 year old smell it and they thought I was certifiably nuts, but I don’t care. I’m buying this in large quantity to have when craving snacks.

I was at a Japanese grocery store last week and in their tea section they sell large bags of the toasted rice used in genmaicha. First off, it’s so tasty just to snack on. Second, sizzling rice soup is one of my favorites soups ever but making the rice is a pain, this stuff is perfect! Finally, I’m having so much fun adding this to all varieties of tea. I added the rice to my movie night tonight and it was amazing. First steep was much more popcorn like than apple, which normally dominates, and the popcorn flavor tasted like it was from a movie popper, just a tad burnt, in a good way! The second steep tasted like a toasted apple tea, also very enjoyable. Tomorrow I’m going to add it to my morning tea just for giggles and see what happens! So far it’s made everything better!

I made this a few nights ago while we were watching a movie. Then I put the spent leaves in a jar in the fridge and cold brewed it. This is actually one of my favorite cold brews for a hot day. It’s kind of like a refreshing toasted apple juice. Enjoying it right now.

The first time I tried this tea I was radically unimpressed. However, I am so happy I finally came back to it. I can not stop drinking this. I steep it strong with honey and it’s a perfect end of the workday snack. Delicious.
I think I am off to buy a tin of it tomorrow because I literally can not stop wanting it.

2 perfect spoons of dry leaf, 5-6 minutes (took me a while to get to my cup after my timer went off, 1 tbsp organic unpasteurized honey and a tiny pinch of salt. i have got threw 1/2 a tin (133gr) in a day.

Backlogging this. Thank you Amanda for sending me some of this in a swap, I have been wanting to try it for awhile. This tastes like apple with abit of maple mainly. I wanted to try this mainly for the fun factor. And this smells really good. I added some sugar and while I could taste this I didn’t think it was strong enough for me and was hoping for more of a maple taste. Mabe I need to steep longer. This is pretty good though.

Very maple-y! I tasted more apple than popcorn, but that’s ok. It was like a caramel apple tea. Like others said, the flavor is light but pleasant. I did taste the green tea, but it was only in a slight metallic vegetal flavor. It added dimension to the apple.

I loved the look of the dry tea. I felt like I should be tossing it into my mouth by the handful. Very snack-y appearance.

It wasn’t really my favorite though. I think I needs something to balance the sweetness. The apple isn’t really cutting it. Maybe some citrus. But that would be a different tea entirely… Perhaps more toasty flavor! If I ever get more of this tea, I’ll try mixing in some genmaicha. That should help the popcorn flavor at any rate. :)

Thanks for letting me try this DaisyChubb!

This tea is the tastiest most awesome thing ever.
The smell is awesome like caramel popcorn or caramel apples. The apple taste isn’t too strong, and the maple taste is just right!

It steeped for a while, maybe too long? I don’t know but it was delicious either way. EDIT: Whatever you do, do NOT understeep this tea. You will be cheating yourself of the real flavour.

I LOVE a tea you don’t have to put sweetener in but still tastes a bit sweet, and this tea is perfect for that. It tastes just like it smells!

Pretty much out of this out, farewell good friend!
The smell of this one was one of my first DavidsTea experiences, and for that alone I can say this tea is so unique and awesome.

Long steep time, less than boiling water, and a drizzle of maple syrup. Movie time.

Upping the rating because this tea is out of this world.

My amazing boyfriend bought me this tea and a David’sTea Bodum Travel Press in my favorite colour so of course I made a cup right away! Well, a few cups, it resteeps really well for me. Again I stress – although it’s a green tea, don’t understeep! I didn’t get any bitterness with my 7 minute steep, just lots of yummy caramel/apple popcorn flavours, yo.
