Green Seduction

Green Tea by DAVIDsTEA

Ah, the pomegranate. In Greek mythology, Hades, god of the underworld, used pomegranate seeds to seduce Persephone, goddess of fertility. In Biblical circles, many think that Eve was actually tempted by a pomegranate, not an apple. What a fruit. We’ve used it to create a green tea that’s just as powerful. Sweetly tart, and full of antioxidants. Seductive on every level.

Using a free sample obtained from David’s Tea during their recent birthdy party. Intriguingly, this sample has no fruit pieces in it, which I remember featuring in the blend. This was one of my first DT favourites, one of the few I have refilled my tin of. However, apparently I haven’t had it in almost a year. A year later, I wonder what I think of it. I’m starting to think that perhaps knowing too much about tea ruins my enjoyment of it…I used to just try anything and give it a go, but now I have certain prejudices against ingredients, base teas, and additives. So when I noticed green rooibos in this (which I surely wouldn’t have when I first tried it) I was uneasy. Also, there is green AND black tea in this. Now I think that’s weird. I’ve steeped this as a green, to be safe.

Smells…like green and black tea. Kinda hard to explain, but they are both present in aroma with a fruity something sticking around afterward. Tastewise, I am disappointed. I might have over-steeped it for a black, or steeped it too hot for a green but this is a little bitter. The fruitiness is very vague, and I mostly get a sense of slightly burnt black tea, not of exceptional quality, either. I think a hint of sweetness would save this cup, but I’m not much for that. I am pretty certain it is the black tea that is throwing this off… Will try again under better circumstance another time. I really do remember enjoying it!

Gave another sample of this a try. I have a tin somewhere at home, but am trying to clear out samples. This one was composed more like what I am used to, with visible pieces of fruit. There was something that loooked like a strawberry in my cup, enticing me. While this is better than my last tasting (I decreased water temperature a bit in deference to the green tea) it still takes on a bitter edge toward the end. I truly wish there were no black tea in this blend, I think I would enjoy it more without that addition. At first I get a sweet green tea taste, not overly vegetal but clearly green with a hint of fruit and then the bolder black tea steps up the plate to dominate the finish. It’s rare that I want a green tea, but I think they are starting to grow on me…

Cold brewed this for my drive up…of course I got way too involved in driving (or yelling at people too, there are pull overs for a damn reason people) and now after getting here, just saying hi to five people seemingly at once has worn me out.

So I’m back drinking this up and hoping to get in a short nap. This tea isn’t too remarkable, it’s a pomegranate flavored green. Nothing much else to report. It’s not ridiculously juicy like Pom Power, so that’s good, but it’s just kind of underwhelming. I can’t pinpoint what, but I’d just sort of expect more from the blend of teas going on here.

What it seems to need too is just a little bit of sweetener to make that pomegranate pop. But sadly I do not have any unless I go get like whatever is in the lobby, and it’s already like the lobby is 10 miles away so this will have to do. It’s drinkable though, but I think it could be a bit more.

Thanks, Kittenna!

Ok last time I had this, I cold brewed it. This time around, I had it hot. Either way, I don’t get pomegranate. I get something tart that I guess is supposed to be pomegranate. It was a lot better hot though once it finally cooled enough in my travel mug that I could drink it.

I honestly thought the base for this was ridiculous but it wasn’t so bad and held up pretty well for being trapped in a travel mug.

I’ll need to review this again (it has completely cooled and sat for a fair while), but figured I should write a quick note.

The dominant flavour is definitely jasmine(?!), but I’m getting pomegranate flavours as well. I can taste the green tea, but not the black tea or green rooibos. It definitely makes me think of a typical jasmine plus some fruitiness, although the jasmine isn’t too fruity.

Pretty good, but not special enough for me to likely keep around. We’ll see though.

ETA: Second infusion predictably a weaker version of the same. Worth it.

Interesting. I first tried this tea 8 months ago, apparently, and wrote that I thought that jasmine was the dominant flavour. Odd! I’m really not picking up on that now, I’m getting a light fruitiness (I can be convinced that it’s pomegranate) on a nice green base, that unfortunately is kind of astringent. I wonder if I thought jasmine because the green base does taste like the jasmine green from a Chinese restaurant? Hrm.

Anyhow, this is rather tasty, but clearly a bit finicky as well, as I thought I was pretty careful with the infusion time. Perhaps 2.5 minutes would give a better result (and also perhaps using a thermometer for water temp, but I was lazy and my thermometer was still packed from my holiday).

Not seduced. It was bitter. I did get a slightly floral juicy note, but that was it. Happy it was free with my Timolino for Earth Day yesterday.

So, I am on this. After a few days of taking Reactine (Zyrtec for my US friends) as well as a Chlortrimeton/Sudafed mix and still sneezing to the point of pain when I step outside, I am looking for more natural ways to beat my allergies. Of course, tons of vitamin C, but also green tea is supposed to help. My mom brought up local honey, which seems so obvious when you think about it. Local honey is made from local pollens, so it helps your system build an immunity to them. Oh darn, I have to eat some honey every day. My life is so hard. XD.

So, when I thought of green tea and vitamin C, I immediately thought of this tea. I’d been avoiding it because, well, greens are too much trouble for my tastes and even when I do manage to brew them properly, I’m not overly fond of them anyway. So it’s a lot of work for not much payoff. But this one has surprised me, especially since I had it as a to-go cup and we all know that the to-go teas from DT usually don’t turn out so great. But I’m drinking this one iced and I’m really enjoying it. It’s light and it’s super refreshing, just what I was looking for. And if it means I get to breathe, all the better.

I can taste the earthiness of the green, but it’s a good thing, it’s not overwhelming, and the fruitiness is what takes to a better place for me. I am truly enjoying this tea and look forward to more of it!

(For those hoping to fight allergies naturally, any of the cold remedy teas also have a lot of ingredients designed to help the symptoms, if not the cause.)

Sample sip down!

ARGGGHHHGG! I got the hiccups and they are bothering me! GO away! /hiccuphiccup! I got a sample this with my last DavidsTea online order. I cold steeped this tea for like 7 hours.

Ehhh, it’s okay. The pomegranate is really light as an aftertaste with a snippet of tart. The main flavor is the strong green mixed with a bit of black tea richness in it. I’m oddly picking up some floral, like jasmine. My roommate thought this was a jasmine tea as well.

Drinking this makes me miss Pom Power – now that’s a pomegranate tea!

I can’t believe I haven’t logged this one yet. This is my third or fourth drinking of this tea. I am loving it. It seems to be my go to tea for the “I am feeling crappy and need a pick my up” nights. It is a great green that I haven’t managed to turn bitter by oversteeping yet. The pomegranite gives this a sweet but also tart flavour to it. Definately a rebuy.

I sampled a cup of this this morning (afternoon technically lol) and it didn’t do a whole lot for me. I get an almost dark chocolate smell and taste in the cup, but the black tea definitely added a bitter note that I didn’t really enjoy. At the start of the sip, the pomegranate is nice and fruity, but after swallowing the bitterness creeps up. I think there’s a bit too much going on in this tea as well, if it was just a green/green rooibos blend I think I would enjoy it a bit more.

I added a spoonful of sugar halfway through and this did cut the bitterness quite a lot, and it tasted more dark cocoa to me, but still not quite good enough for me to purchase. I steeped for 3 and a half mins at 175 degrees, maybe it was too long of a steep time? Just not quite my cup of tea :(

this is a plain fruity tea… oversteeped unfortunately. I’d like to try a second infusion of this one day. It was a to go order so had to throw the bag out- boo!
I can tell that it’s a quality brew though, relatively smooth for being oversteeped and light in flavour. I’m tasting some of the tartness as well, could that be the pomegranate?
Meh. I don’t plan on buying a tin of this but it’s satisfying enough I suppose. It just doens’t stand out in any way for me other than having a decent quality base.

Eh. Another letdown today. This one isn’t as offensive as Midsummer Night’s Dream or Strawberry Rhubarb Parfait but also not something I’ll keep around. Perhaps my fiance will enjoy this one. I bought it with him in mind anyway :)

DAVIDsTEA

Dry Leaf Nose: Pomegranates.

Liquor: Light golden brown, with a pomegranate aroma.

Flavour: A generally fruity flavour with a lovely tea base – mostly green, but some black tea as well. Pomegranate is the prominent flavour.

LOL. And here I thought I reviewed this one!

At the moment, I cannot think of any green teas that I love. A few that I mildly like, but none that I would feel the urge to keep in my cabinet for as long as it lasts. Including this one. It’s not bad, it’s just not inspiring either. Cannot say that I would buy a 50 g bag of this. I am not giving up on green teas though, just need to keep plugging at it.

Last bit of this one. I miss it already. :P

I am disappointed with this tea. I could barely taste the pomegranates or any fruitiness at all. And it seems to me that this tea taste like green tea and black tea. Overall not my favourite and I found it quite bitter.

When I first smelled this at DAVIDsTEA I wasn’t sure about buying this or not, just because I didn’t like the scent (green tea + fruit makes me think of flavoured medicine)
Well I needed some more green tea for the house so I bought it anyways. Of course this also has black tea and green rooibos in it, but it’s in the green tea section of the store so it must have a larger amount of green tea.

There are so many ingredients in this one that I can’t even really pin point what I like most about it. But it works together really well, and it tastes great. I also think it has a wonderful cost to price ratio. It’s also a good resteeper; during a party with friends, I resteeped it four times and no one seemed to notice a drop in flavour.

I’ve tasted better blends, but this tea exceeded my expectations so I’m happy with it.

I got this a couple months ago in my starter kit from Davids, and I actually don’t know if I’ve ever tried it! It smells very, very fruity and when I was starting out I didn’t think I liked flavoured, especially fruity green teas.

This is much more subtle than the smell leads you to believe. It’s nice and smooth and light, but complex enough to keep me interested. Yum!

I cold-brewed this overnight.

It’s quite nice iced. I think I prefer it this way. However, it ended up a tiny bit bitter which is strange. I like this tea but don’t love it. I also can’t decide if I actually taste pomegranate in it. It’s very fruity but I would probably guess it to be more of a berry flavour.

I don’t give this tea enough credit; it’s still left over from my very first sample set from DavidsTea! It’s really nice. I tend to sniff my teas when trying to decide which to consume, and this one always makes me think it’s going to be too sweet or too strongly flavoured. But it’s not. It’s subtly sweet and very well-balanced.

This was my first memorable cup of DavidsTea. It was the absolute most best cup of tea I had ever had (at that point)! DavidsTea is new to my city, so I’ve been on a tasting spree and haven’t gone back to revisit this one for awhile. I bought a tin of this last weekend, so decided I’d brew up a cup at home.

I did brew 2 cups at work recently and they were duds. Not sure if there’s something wrong with the lot or I screwed something up, but I actually paid attention to steep times, even let my second cup brew a bit longer.

This cup at home was pretty decent. My first two sips were kind of weak, so I tossed the steeper in a bit longer. Ended up forgetting about it so it may have steeped for 8-ish minutes all total. The bitterness was my fault, so I’m not holding it against this tea. The sweetness from the pomegranate was there, which is what I like most about this. Sometimes I want a slightly sweeter, not so vegetal green tea, and this hits the spot! People seem weirded out by the black & rooibos. I can tell there’s a bit of black tea in there, but had no idea there was rooibos in it until I read the ingredients. I think the black just gives it a bit more solid base. Or something.

Not the most forgiving green tea, I find. I can’t seem to replicate that first amazing cup. Well, I have about 94 grams left to get it right.. (I still love it, though!)

YUM!
The last few times I’ve had this, it’s been a bust. Either completely flavourless or too strong. This one is pretty darn good! I could have let it steep just a smidge longer maybe..

I love pomegranate, but this wasn’t for me. I’m not sure what I don’t like about it, just that I hated it. Oh well I can just go try something else now :D

This tea has a really unique and pleasant flavor to it. When you first open the package you definitely pick up on the sweet raspberry and pomegranate fragrance. When you steep it, it transforms into a light refreshing green tea with a mild sweetness from the fruits, finishing with a rather agreeable tartness. I like to enjoy this tea in a smaller mug at any time of day.
