Thank you to Emilie for a generous sample of this tea! I am not one to shy away from pu-erh in any form so I figured I might like this.

The dry leaf smells very chocolate-y and orange! I wasn’t sure how long to steep this for, but after looking over the other tasting notes and DT’s website, I decided to go for 5 minutes steeped in regular infuser mug method.

I did give this tea a quick rinse in boiling water so I don’t know how much that impacts the flavor. After steeping, my cup smells very citrusy and earthy. I’m not sure where this pu-erh comes from but in my opinion it is lacking somewhat in flavor; after steeping it for so long I’d imagine it would pack more of a wallop. I do drink a ton of pu-erh, and I drink it almost every day, so I can fairly well discern the base of this tea is nothing too special (I apologize if that sounds snobby, no offense intended).

The orange in this blend is fairly strong and I am getting a little bit of chocolate in the aftertaste. The ingredients seem to go together well but I’m a little underwhelmed by this one, probably would not purchase it for myself though it makes for a nice after lunch treat. :)

Calling David Duckler… let’s see a Verdant version of this. :)

This is from the Traveling Tea Box. Wheeee!

I was excited about this one because I really like puerh tea! I have had very little DavidsTea and that has been samples and mostly long ago.

I followed their directions for steeping. The aroma is nice puerh and chocolate with a hint of orange. One thing I wasn’t wild about is that there is an oil slick on top of my cup. It isn’t a deal breaker but I really don’t remember seeing this with other teas I drink. The sip is a bit disappointing at first. There is so much chocolate scent and the puerh base comes through so well, but the actual taste is tea with orange. There is only a hint of the chocolate. The puerh is more muted than I thought it would be. Perhaps I should stir it up or add seem of my own chocolate so that the taste matches the aroma.

One plus is that the second steep is much like the first without a noticeable diminishing of flavor, though I feel like the taste has morphed a bit.

This isn’t bad, I will enjoy it and I will share it with friends, but it doesn’t make me want to put in an order with DavidsTea. Once you have tried Lupicia’s Chocolate Strawberry Puerh, it is hard to love another flavored puerh.

Thank you Amanda for a bit of this tea!!! YAY!

I’ll admit it…I’m overly critical when it comes to orange chocolate ANYTHING.

But I DO really like this. It’s not overly orange-chocolate flavored but the flavor it does have works really well in the Pu-erh base! VERY well, actually. It doesn’t really stop my chocolate craving at the moment but it’s a really tasty cuppa! One I could see having on hand at any time ready to pull off the shelf and sip! :)

This tea scares me… Flavored pu-erh? Sounds risky to me… Pu-erh is an adventure as is! But, I bought it so I must try it!

The scent of the tea leaves is orange chocolate all the way. I did get a little earthiness, but nothing that screamed pu-erh. I must admit that so far it seems pretty tasty.

Once brewed, it is super surprisingly dark. It is so dark that it could easily be confused for a cup of coffee. Here is where it got odd. I definitely smelled the pu-erh, earthy, musty and even a tiny bit fishy. The orange chocolate was still. There, but that peculiar pu-erh smell was there with it.

Now worried, I poured my self a cup…. And wow… The earthiness works amazingly with the chocolate and the orange! It is tasty and relaxing. The pu-erh really works in this blend! It isn’t something that I will need to have in my cupboard permanently, but I am really happy that I have decided to try it! Good way to start my day!

Can I put this in both my cupboard and on my shopping list? It is way more awesome than I even imaged, holy.

I kept mouthing “OMG” while drinking it at work. mm!
Okay so, chocolate orange in a cup. I’ll just agree with that, because it is. 100%.

I won’t say the puerh is totally missing from the picture, I can taste a bit of gritty earthiness but it is quickly overwhelmed in both smell and taste by a strong delicious dark and creamy chocolate and perfect orange flavour. loooove.

I was sold in the Regina store with my favorite dude gave me a sample of this as a latte. Please do it. SO GOOD.

p.s. finally caved and bought the Advent Calendar! There are 15 teas on it that I haven’t tried, so I think it’s totally worth it for me ^^

Will Work For Tea

I don’t have a lot of experience with puerh, so I’m always looking for opportunities to expand my knowledge of it. Thanks goes out to Bonnie for this nice sample!

I didn’t know what to expect from this tea. Chocolate and orange go pretty well together, but it’s not usually a combination I seek out. Brewed up 8 oz of tea with 1 1/2 tsp of tea. Put in a bit of rock sugar and waited until it cooled a little.

The cup produced a fragrant earthy cup. I smell the puerh and maybe a bit of chocolate. No citrus yet.

Upon the first taste, I got a nice bright chocolate taste – there’s the orange! The earthiness isn’t so apparent in the taste, but I can smell it when I go in for a sip. It’s pretty good. Nothing too fancy, mostly a chocolate taste with the orange to brighten it up.

Thank you Bonnie for sharing a sample of this with me!

If you look at some of my past tasting notes, you’ll see I’ve been underwhelmed by what many tea blenders have done with chocolate. This is an exception!

When you open the pouch, you get a blast of orange-chocolate fragrance with just a hint of the dusty earthiness of the pu-erh. The tea contains HUGE chocolate shavings; an indication that this is going to be better than most “flavored” teas.

When you prepare this tea, make sure you use a method that allows the water to envelop and wash the tea so the chocolate fully dissolves. In other words, no “tea balls” or steeping baskets on this one; get it right in the water.

This brews to a red-gold and is full of chocolate and orange flavor. Unlike many flavored pu-erh’s, the tea holds up well in this blend and adds body and richness.

This one goes on the (very) short list of teas containing chocolate that I’d drink again.

Tasty! I didn’t expect to like this too much since previous orange flavor things from David’s has been too candy like in the past. Fortunately, this one is more natural with a rich creamy chocolate flavor. The puerh base is also pretty notable. I was a bit surprised by it at first but really started to like the earthy flavor as I continued to sip. The flavors blend so nicely! Very sweet. This might be a good base for hot chocolate or as a latte. Or hot chocolate latte? Holy cow! I’m brilliant. I know what I’m having tomorrow!

Gosh its been such a crazy day! A horse got out by my house and we had to try and get it off the highway! So now im sitting drinking this.

Its good but I don’t really get too much orange. I was hoping for more. But its still a nice rich cup.

It’s been soooo long since I’ve put up a review! Gaahh

So, I’m drinking a Christmas tea in July… yes my bag is still one that says “Oh Christmas Treat” on it… and it is messing with my head. I want to be wearing a big sweater and watching the snow out my window! Early winter/late fall is the best time of year, I think. But I feel like whatever time of year it is, I’m often wishing for something else.
So, I guess summer really isn’t that bad. Lots of produce is in season and the summer thunderstorms are awesome. And I love iced tea, even though I go through so much more tea so quickly. I’m sure there were times in the winter when I said “I wish it was summer!” so I should appreciate it while I can.

UM ANYWAY… this tea is still awesome. It’s like a grown-up chocolate orange. It came out a little bit weak/watery this time though, but still enjoyable.

I had purchased the Stainless Steel Bodum travel mug two weeks ago. There was a lot I didn’t like about it, namely that the lid kept popping off. So, thanks to there fantastic return policy I took it back and got another perfect mug, glitter and gold and this one. I did not realize that it was just Oh Christmas Treat renamed. I spent last holiday season living off this tea while opening a VERY busy retail store.
I have a terrible cold right now and my sense may be playing tricks on me. This smelled horrible, but tastes great! I’d like to add a tin to my collection, but I’ve run out of room on the wall rack I use. Which means I need to re-examine my location.
This tea makes an amazing latte btw!

MMMMMM… It’s cold out. This helps me forget that.
Just did some obedience training with Miss Rally Rims. She’s a brat, but it was fun. I was trying to teach her to hold a treat on her nose and then catch it… she kept toss it behind her. Before long Mr. Octane showed up and started catching them when she tossed them. It was a good laughed.
Then my tea cooled. I’m loving flavoured puerh lately. I need more.

After my first pu-erh, I decided to try a somewhat different aspect of the tea.

This is the second sample I’ve tried out of the ones sent to me by Bonnie. The dry leaf smells somewhat earthy with a nice pop of sweetness.

I took a few sips and decided to add a little bit of stevia to sweeten it up a bit. Very good! I can taste more orange and the chocolate adds sort of a creaminess that makes the tea nice and rich! The earthiness of the pu-erh adds a nice contrast to the sweetness.

Very good, thank you again Bonnie! I heard that this tea was being added to the permanent collection but I can’t find it anywhere…. If anyone has any info, please tell me, because I would LOVE to have this tea in my cupboard!

Shmiracles

bum bum bum …. the last cup of Chocolate Orange until my recently placed order arrives.
for the time being, this tea is in my top 10. easy.
i made a cup for My Boyfriend the Animator too. and previously he declared that he doesn’t like chocolate teas. but tonight he declared that he likes this one.
win!
i went to the gym tonight. i’ve run maybe 2 times over the past 5 weeks. no wonder i’m so depressed. hopefully tonight’s run will be the start of a solid and steady effort for the next 3 months.

So with my buds being absent has an upside… I can tolerate pu’erhs now! yay :)
This was amaaaazing when hot, not so much as it cools. The chocolate and orange work really well though. Next time I’ll try it with a splash of milk!
It smelled and tasted a tad fishy, which made me a little sad. It could have been so perfect!
and it was why I didn’t bother with a resteep. So… big points for the flavour when hot… but less so when cooled down. Ah well! I’d definitely have this again. In fact I may buy a small sample once I get through the other newbie teas

Thank you, Bonnie, for yet another interesting sample. I would not normally choose a flavoured tea when there are so many flavours of unflavoured tea, but Bonnie sent me a sample and it would be rude not to try it! ;-)

Opening the bag, I am met with a strong chocolate and orange smell. Interesting. So, the liquor is a beautiful orangey-red colour, becoming close to a dark chocolatey brown as it fills up the cup. It smells of chocolate. The orange is almost an undertone. Tasting it, the chocolate dominates once more, but this time the orange and the earthy notes of the puerh are more dominant too. There is even a slight hint of chilli spice. I like this. It is like drinking a Terry’s Chocolate Orange with added puerh. Yes, I don’t think I would want to drink this every day but I could definitely see getting some of this in for an occasional treat.

I’m going to be one of the very few people to say this, but I don’t care for this tea at all. I find it to be… strange. The first steep, I didn’t know that you were suppose to rinse the leaves. I almost never drink pu’erhs and I didn’t see the rinsing thing anywhere on the packaging or on the website. But now that I’ve looked around a bit online, I see that, and I gotta say… that’s kinda weird.. haha
Anyway, so I tossed my first steep after I saw that, and resteeped it for a few minutes. The second steep is definitely better, but I still don’t really care for it at all. I think the earthy-ness is too much for me, and I definitely get the fishiness that someone else was talking about. I get that smell pretty good.

This came in a sample pack that I got as a gift, so I only have a little. I don’t think I’ll be keeping what little I have left. It’s too bad, ‘cause so many people rave about it. I think it’s just my personal tastes. I’m not for the more earthy smelling/tasting teas…
Sorry Oh Christmas Treat… I just can’t do it… :(

Another special THANKS to Steepster Bonnie for sending me this sample! The title of this tea had my name written all over it. Chocolate Orange Pu’erh! Well, that’s not really my name…though…Stoo C. O. Pu’erh…hhmm…it does have a bit of class!

Anyhow, this tea sounded like it had all of the ingredients that I love, in tea, or anything! Chocolate and orange are a great combination. I was extremely psyched to brew this baby.

I steeped it at 212 degrees for six minutes. The instructions said 98 degrees celsius (208.4 degrees fahrenheit) but my one-touch tea maker isn’t quite that versatile. No matter, what’s 3.6 degrees between friends?

The aroma that emerged from the steeping brew was interesting. I could detect the somewhat fishy aroma of the pu’erh mixed in with a sweet orange attribute.

The color of the steeped blend was light brown with orange hues. This is what I would expect if I put orange juice and pu’erh tea in a blender.

At first taste, the pu’erh flavor comes roaring through like a freight train. Then, the orange caboose begins to bring up the rear. As I guzzled more and more, I could discern the orange/pu’erh hybrid qualities of the flavor. The taste is smooth, sweet, and fruity, with the pu’erh presence complementing it perfectly. Bitterness is completely absent.

This is a fantastic tea. I’ve already enjoyed pu’erh with coconut. I now know that orange also is a great mate for it. I am looking forward to trying more pu’erh combinations in the future!

These two flavors are actually a great match. Besides tea, this would be a great selection in a box of chocolates. Are there any mad scientist chocolatiers out there? :-)

Our landlords are useless. Mice in the walls? Nothing is done, so we have to buy traps and catch them. Stove blows up? Still waiting on that one. Front & back walkways need to be shoveled? They leave shovels here for us to do it. The worst part? They’re my best friends parents, which means that even if we find another place I will still probably see them around.

So, for the past 20 minutes I have been outside, shoveling the walkway to the apartment that I am paying to live in when they should be paying me to do their job. I came inside and decided to reward myself by brewing up a cup of this tea. Yeah, I deserve it.

I’m not familiar with pu’erhs, having never tried one before, so I’m not sure how this one rates on that scale. On my scale, this tea is pretty freakin’ amazing! I’m not really a fan of those chocolate oranges, but I’m a fan of this tea! One thing though, I tried this in-store and the chocolate came through much more, but now that I have it at home I find it’s more orange-y. Not a horrible thing, just wish I tasted more chocolate.

FINALLY finished off the last of this… and ended up having the entire tea latte guzzled by my 2-year-old when I wasn’t looking! Looks like I have a fellow tea-lover in my midst, one that’s barely 3 feet tall. It’s a good thing we finished this tea too since I could definitely taste some staleness happening…

Not sure what is going on with this tea today, but it’s tasting super orange-y and earthy. Not getting a lot of chocolate this time around… so sad.

It’s after me! really it is! coconut!!!!

This tea is orange and puerh not coconut. So what’s the big idea?? It smells chocolatey and earthy. The first taste is a cheery orange. And then. . . it happens. The mysterious coconut goblin finds me and messes with my tea (or my taste buds). It’s that same most awful coconuty aftertaste that is supposed to follow after a sip of coconut flavored tea. Hear that coconut goblin??? You’re hanging out with the wrong tea!

I really don’t know where it’s coming from, maybe it’s hiding in the artificial flavors somewhere. Ugh.

Thanks again Shmiracles for sending me one of your favorites. So sorry that it wasn’t a match for me.

Holy baloney this stuff is the bees knees! Dark, deep, rich cup of heaven.
Dry: mmm chocolate pieces, orange pieces and pu-erh oh my! It smells like the taste of terry chocolate oranges. I want one now.
Liquor: Dark brown. Coffee dark almost. Small oil droplets from the chocolate I suspect. Smells like a chocolate orange. Steaming hot: I can taste a bit of the pu-erh, but it is nice. Orange is present. So it chocolate. Warm: It has a whole mouth feeling to it if that makes sense. It’s thick. and very chocolately orange. Delicious. I like it better warm then hot as more of the thickness and chocolate comes out. So so good.

Overall – permanent collection. Amazing tea for satisfying a craving, or whenever you want to drink the equivalent of unicorn tears. I suggest you buy it.
