I wasn’t sure what to do with this tea at first. I got it in a massive order and it smelled wonderful but I was so apprehensive about it. But I was going to town and wanted a drink while I did so I brewed this up.

At first it tasted like… fish. Then I let it sit a while and when I tasted it again, it went down smooth and the aftertaste was like a Terry’s Chocolate Orange! It delighted me to no end! I am so happy I bought the tin of this!

Wow. That was all I could say for a little bit after trying this. This tea is just wonderful. Thanks so much to Bonnie for sending me a sample. Also, this is my first experience with pu-erh, so if it sounds like I have no clue what I’m talking about, that’s because it’s true.

The smell of this tea dry is exactly like a chocolate orange. I exercised great self restraint by not eating the chocolate bits out. After steeping, the sweet smells calm down some, and what I can only assume is the pu-erh smell makes an appearance. The tea looks dark and murky, but that means the chocolate melted! It definitely tastes like a chocolate orange as well, with a taste at the end that is most likely the pu-erh. I’m not sure exactly how to describe that taste. This is definitely going to the top of my “BUY NOW” list. Now if only I could find some of that Santa’s Secret.

Had this tonight to keep me going through lab and studying for my stats test. Go me! I still absolutely love this tea. I tried it with milk this time. It’s wonderful both ways and doesn’t need anything to sweeten it. I really love that this can do multiple steeps well, as well.

It seems that cold brewing this one kept the chocolate from dissolving as much and enhanced the other flavors while making the chocolate more of an accent to the other flavors. Interesting.

Made this yesterday for my mom. I’m trying to introduce her to loose leaf tea and I knew she would love this one. I bought a gallon of water so we could taste it without the saltiness of their water getting in the way. I think she has been won over!

I love it! And I’m not ashamed to say it!

This was the first pu-erh I was brave enough to try, and it’s opened me up to a whole world of curiosity!

The first whiff of the dry leaves, while yummy, doesn’t necessarily have that musty earthiness. It’s all chocolate and orange and yum. But on deeper sniff, there’s something darker there. Something nifty.

It brews into a very dark tea, with a seriously rich scent. The first sips are again mostly orangey with a chocolate background. Like a delicious Terry’s orange. But as I let it cool, I start to notice what must surely be the pu-erh. Earthy is the right word. And it’s so perfect with the added flavours – each element plays in the cup by itself, but also blend together like… I don’t know. Words aren’t the point.

The point is, I like it. I love it! I will drink it all year round – Christmas tea or not!
And pu-erh – here I come!

So my day at work today wasn’t anywhere near as cold as yesterday (I got to spend my day in a little booth with a heater that somewhat works…), but I decided I really wanted to try my girls out on a tea latte – and what better way than with a tea that smells like a Terry’s X-mas orange?

I made the tea latte the same way I did last night with the Chocolate Chili Chai – which was how I watched the girl at David’s in Guildford Mall make one – adding some agave syrup to the steeping tea.

So here goes…

I love the smell of the tea once brewed, and in the Latte? Delish! This is one amazing latte! I’m sitting here waiting for my girls to try/drink theirs; cause if they don’t drink them I sure will!

This tea is a definite keeper for me – I will be picking up some more very soon (sorry wallet)…

I’m now wondering how to make the other Terry’s Chocolate orange flavours with my teas…. any suggestions of some combos to make with the Oh Christmas Treat tea?

So today I went in to my local David’sTea and picked up 50g of this wonder tea :D

Decided I’d make a mixed tea Latte by adding some Caramel Spice. I had tried the Caramel Spice before finding this wonderful community, so I havent rated my opinion of it here yet (just leave it for now as not really a favorite, but i digress).

Now if you are from a family like mine, Terry’s Chocolate Oranges are a christmas tradition… Last year Santa left me a Toffee Crunch orange… Where am I going with this? I was trying to replicate that taste in a tea latte!

Not sure I got my combo down well – definitely got the caramel spice taste in the latte, but still also get the Oh christmas treat taste too so?

We’ll leave this one unrated for now – and leave with a side note of I NEED TO GET MORE O.C.T.!!!!!

1.5 tsp for 250mL water @98C. Steeped 4 minutes. Drunk bare.

Pu-erh and I have never gotten along. Pu-erh often left me with an upset stomach. Guess what? I was doing it wrong, steeping wayyy too much.

I got Chocolate Orange in a gift pack. The scent is lovely: sharp orange, dark chocolate. Liquor is almsot coffee-dark. The pu-erh itself is quite mild (I’d tasted from horrible fishy ones). A harmonious blend, with no one dominant note. A pleasant surprise.

Picked up a 26g sampler of this today.

This smells EXACTLY like a Terry’s Chocolate Orange.

When measuring it out the chocolate curls are obvious, charming and completely enticing.
The Lemon rinds to my utter joy are also prolific and zesty.

Once steeped it’s a rich darker caramel color and smells about the same if a bit subdued.

Tastes earthy and rich but it’s not overpowering but it is the first impression I get.

The smoky texture immediately changes into the aftertaste of a Chocolate Orange on my tongue.

Overall it’s a pleasant tea but it is the taste shadow of the chocolate orange and not the full flavor I tend to hope for in my gimmick teas.

However there are so many glowing reviews on here so I will try it again and fuss with my preparation.
Hints are VERY much welcomed!

Very nice. I think the orange and chocolate both come through really nicely in this (and it smells incredible!). Very smooth, creamy, and rich. What I didn’t really taste was pu’erh! Not much characteristic pu’erh taste, though it tastes like a robust and smooth Chinese black. It made an excellent nighttime tea.

I feel like I’ve been in an endless reading/research/writing cycle over the past few weeks, and I was feeling something similar with my tea drinking (I’ve been avoiding making any new purchases until I clear out some of my stash). I remembered that I still had several samples Azzrian sent me, so I decided to break my usual tea cycle and try out a new flavour.

I’ve never had a flavoured pu-erh before, so I’m excited to try this.

The dry leaf smells quite citrusy, but I can’t really smell anything chocolatey. When steeped, the tea smells like an earthy citrus, with a hint of chocolate. It tastes like that, too. The pu-erh base isn’t very prominent, but it’s there to provide the earthy background, while the citrus flavour takes the spotlight and the chocolate comes out in the aftertaste. I’m not a huge fan of chocolate orange flavoured things, but this was surprisingly pleasant to drink.

All in all, an interesting and refreshing tea. Thanks for the sample, Azzrian!

Who am I kidding….I was hooked on this tea just reading its description online. Chocolate. Yum. I am a self-professed chocolate addict, the darker the better; and delicately laced with any sort of fruit, nut and/or sea salt, even better.

So I headed to DT today and asked to smell this canister of lusciousness – a deep, wonderful, earthy aroma hit my senses, just as I had imagined it to be. Visually, I was excited to see healthy swirls of dark chocolate curls and bits of dried orange. I think my heart skipped a beat. It had me at chocolate.

I had the staff brew me a cup in my tumbler. The tea-barista asked if I wanted it straight or in a tea-bag – I chose tea-bag, despite the thought that those sumptuous chocolate bits dissolving into the hot brew would have been divine. I just didn’t want to deal with the bits of pur’eh and undissolved orange in my mouth.

I let this tea brew longer than usual before sipping, and left the tea bag in my tumbler as I always do. Since it had those wonderful chocolate bits in it, I swirled my tumbler every once in a while to allow the dissolved chocolate to escape from the bag and into the deep, swampy chocolate brew that had filled my tumbler.

This tea was far from disappointing. Dry or brewed, this pur’eh is very similar in scent – there is no deception here, what you smell is what you get. And what you smell is absolute enrapture – more so if you LOVE chocolate.

It smells distinctly (but not overpoweringly so) like Terry’s Orange Chocolate. You know, the chocolate that is shaped like an orange wrapped in foil and you whack on a table so it splits into perfect oranges “slices”. Yeah, that one. (I really need to stop comparing teas to sugary confections, lest I end up with a reputation akin to Mrs. Willy Wonka.)

As a green and white tea drinker, and relatively new to pur’eh teas, I have to say that I really do enjoy the warm, earthy texture of this tea type. And that warm, earthy texture comes through nicely in this tea concoction. It complements the dark chocolate and orange well. There isn’t a competition of flavours; everyone mingles quite nicely in the tumbler; you can almost hear the harps strumming.

I drank most of this straight, no agave. On its own, it is quite satisfying (that subtle taste of Terry’s Orange Chocolate). Once you add a dollop of agave (you really don’t need a lot due to the chocolate), it just heightens all those wonderful flavours and it’s as if you are in fact eating a slice of Terry’s Orange Chocolate.

As I sipped on this delectable tea, the thought crossed my mind that this would probably be a great tea as a latte. That is a big statement for me, since I don’t like my teas with milk at all; as a non-black tea drinker, that seems quite foreign to me.

This is a great dessert tea – in lieu of actual dessert, or as a complement to a light orange or fruit based dessert. Or just when you are looking for a little piece of heaven on earth.

Okay so tonight I am pretty much indulging in tea (had four cups of Matcha Matsu) and am now trying my Chocolate Orange. I dont know why but when I saw this on the website I like screamed, usually I hate chocolate with fruit but maybe the fact that this is a pu’erh changed the story. So I went into my local DT today and asked if I could smell this one. I asked her for 50g but as she was filling the pouch and taking some out cuz I guess it was over 50g I said “WAIT! I’LL TAKE 100g!” …as if I have anymore room on my shelf dedicated for DAVIDsTEA lol.
Okay so if you think the dry tea leaves smell orgasmic wait till you smell it as it is steeping… I seriously think I am going to cry because it smells so beautiful (tea geek much…?). And the taste is definately as good as the smell! David, you’ve done it again

I almost wish my friend hadn’t introduced me to this tea because:

a) I’m addicted
b) IT’S ONLY A CHRISTMAS TEA!!!!!!!!!!!

Totally drank my 50g bag of it in a week (or maybe less, I can’t remember…) and when I went back to the store to buy a tin to stock up for the year they were all sold out, with no chance of new stock coming in because the tea was THAT good that all the stores had high demand. I emailed customer service, tweeted them, called the stores, etc, nothing. Believe me this Christmas I may or may not be the person rumours will be going around about that I bought the entire container from the store….!

Davids needs to find out how to rebrand this as a year-round tea. I neeeeeeeed more!

Oh Happy Day!!! DAVIDsTEA listens when you cry! They have rebranded it as a not-just-for-Christmas tea so now I can have my fix every day. Hooray for no more painful withdrawals and bipolarness because my cravings were left to their own devices until next Christmas. Just kidding. I picked up a fresh tin of it yesterday. Ohh, the chocolate shavings are huge. The smell is intoxicating. I think I’m gonna go make a latte…

My first time trying a Pu’erh Tea. I don’t really know what I’m supposed to taste, but I do taste a light chocolate and a very little bit of citrus. It’s somewhat pleasant, but there is again a little chemical taste to it, which I can’t place. It tastes a little like a bad chocolate orange candy.

What better way to end a work day than with a tea that tastes like chocolate orange? I’d gotten this one in store before I left since we still have some in my store here and mmmmm. Definitely delicious as always. I’m still surprised I like this one as much as I do since I’m not a fan of those Terry’s oranges OR of pu’erh. And yet I love this tea.

Day 25 of my 101 days of DAVIDsTEA challenge. Had to do this one today because it met the requirements of being a) not in the calendar, and b) being a Christmas-themed tea.

IT SMELLS SO MUCH LIKE A CHOCOLATE ORANGE, IT’S REDICULOUS. And delicious. And wonderful.

Around 2 [tablware] teaspoons in my 2-cupper teapot. I honestly wish it tasted more like it smells — I remember brewing it before and enjoying the taste better. Still pleasant, but not quite as good as the last time. Thinking it might be better if brewed for an individual cup, but we’ll have to see about that another day.

It does get bitter if steeped too long, but not overly unpleasantly so — it brings out the taste of the orange. Still better fresh, unless you add milk to cut the bitterness (the good ol’fashioned British way).

Putting this down as 81 for now, may raise the rating later if I’m correct and it tastes a lot better brewed in-cup.

Effing awesome. More concise review when I’m not overdue for going to bed. ;P

Oh I am soooo glad to have more of this! I put it on hold for the summer as I feel it is more of a fall and winter tea with how rich and warm and comforting it is. I got a small amount from my local shop along with a few of the $1 straight teas (though not the ones I really wanted to try…they aren’t getting them apparently, BOO!). Having some now and soooo cozy now. I feel like it is wrapping me up in a cozy blanket and I just want to dive into a good book(!).

Unlike my experience with the Strawberry Slim Pu erh tea from Teavana, I can taste both the earthy flavour of the pu erh which mingles magnificently with the chocolate, but also a bit of the orange too. I added milk ad sugar to enhance the creamy chocolate orange taste…it is just like a chocolate orange candy bar. It is soooo yummy!!

My mug is looking sad and almost empty, so I think I might just have to make another cuppa.

Duuuuuuuuuuude….try this with dark chocolate milk instead of regular milk (if you use milk at all), and your mind…it shall be blown. :)

I just adore this tea, and it is hitting the spot in a nice day turned windy and rainy afternoon. I had to run out and get DH some Dayquill, and it was cold and wet and windy, so when I came inside, this is what I made to warm me up and make me feel all cozy. It’s a sipdown, but now when I replace it, it will be the new name.

Personally, I think a tea as indulgent as this deserves to be drunk with milk and sugar….creamy and sweet!

Ok, so, I have been thinking about this tea ever since I smelled it a week ago AFTER I got my Chocolate Chili Chai to go. :( Well, not :( so much, because I really like the Chocolate Chili Chai, but I had had that before, and not Oh Christmas Treat. So that is what I mean.

So I finally got it as a tea to go on Friday after work, on the way to my Friday Night Dinner Group. It’s been very cold here in Victoria the last few days (and yes, -2C is effing cold to us here…we’re wusses, sorry) and I thought this would be perfect to keep me warm while I wait for the bus, and also to give me a little pick up for the rest of the evening, since I was very tired at that point.

I got this made with some agave and milk. It was a bit too hot for a bit, but I kept sniffing it (constantly, I couldn’t stop!), and I kept taking little sips, cuz I was so antsy to try it. Ha ha ha! I think I probably got some looks as I kept smelling it. :P

OMG, it totally is like those chocolate oranges that you whack that are so popular for Christmas (though why should I only have them at Christmas? They’re awesome and deserve to be consumed ALL YEAR!). I get more of that with the smell than the taste, and it more orange than chocolate in the smell, but more chocolatey and malty when consumed orally. The taste is more muted then when smelled, but the flavours even out a bit better this way. I think the pu-erh was a perfect choice for a base.

I really like this tea. So far, my winter/holiday winners are this and Alpine Punch. Ok, well Chocolate Chili Chai is pretty awesome too. I haven’t tried all of the new releases yet due to budget issues (DH took a trip in late Oct to early Nov, and is leaving again for another one in a few days).

Oh, how I love you so!

Wow! I’m not a lover of fruit and chocolate (unless it is fruit dipped in chocolate) so I was VERY surprised that I liked this one. I think I might have to pick up an actual chocolate orange to see if my feelings for them have also changed. I think I will have to rotate my Pu’erh tin between coffee and chocolate orange now.

Ok, so this tea smells amazing, exactly like a Terry’s chocolate orange. That is undeniable. However, the taste doesn’t quite live up. The scent of the steeped tea is still delicious, but I’m not getting enough sweetness or orangey flavour. Perhaps this would be remedied by me adding sweetener myself, but I reaaaally don’t want to slide down that slippery slope. (But I have about 85g of this tea to drink, so may have to). There is a nice chocolate flavour, though – although it’s critical to use water hot enough and steep long enough to melt the chocolate! I don’t like this one enough to buy it again, though.

As other people have also commented – I have also previously noticed a distinctly fishy odour (not taste) to the steeped tea, which is a real turn-off. I am beginning to wonder whether it is a batch problem, though – I ended up with (at least) three bags of this at Christmas, each from different places. Currently drinking from the BC bag, and experiencing absolutely no fishiness whatsoever, which makes me much happier than the previous cups I’ve had (none of which were from this bag). I will have to experiment a bit more, but if this is the case (and it’s not a steeping issue), I’m hoping DT will be willing to exchange my fishy bags for either a different tea, or at least a non-fishy incarnation of this one.

Awesome, the first cup I remember having of this that is totally delicious, chocolatey, orangey, goodness with no fishiness! Absolutely delicious! I think I shall change my rating… the tea isn’t supposed to be fishy, and I’m willing to bet the cup I rated it on was.

Only downside is that my throat feels a touch scratchy while drinking it. Odd/annoying but oh well! Hit the spot today for sure :D

Yep… this 52g bag that I was given from a store in BC last year is definitely a gooder. I have been basking in delicious chocolate orange aroma for the last couple hours, and the flavour is pretty darn amazing. The tea in this bag doesn’t even smell fishy, whereas the other batch I have (or had, I may have given some away) definitely did.

Either way, this is pretty darn good. Still getting that scritchy scratchy throat thing with this tea… not sure what that’s all about, but it seems to happen with flavoured rooibos sometimes too. Unfortunately, the knowledge that I have 1.5 Terry’s chocolate oranges sitting at home waiting to be eaten means that this tea is definitely NOT satisfying my cravings today… but it works decently the rest of the year!

Wow, amazing chocolate taste! This is also amazing as a latte!! David’s Tea really hit the nail on the head with this pairing of dark chocolate and orange.
I will definitely be drinking this all winter!

I was rationing this tea because I only have 100grams and wanted to make it last. But now they are making it permanent, so I can enjoy more often!!

1st steep: 3.5 min, 96degrees, amazing dark chocolate earthy flavour, with hints of orange that are not overpowering. With a little splash of milk…WOW

2nd steep: 5 min, boiling, added a little steamed milk. The flavour is still going strong. Amazing with that extra creaminess from the milk

3rd steep: 10 min, boiling, still great flavour!

Yum! I will have to refill my tin soon!
