From DAVIDsTEA

Strange but true

We’ve all heard stories about magic and romance happening under a banana tree. But did you know bananas don’t even grow on trees? They are actually the world’s largest herb. And we’ve got plenty more banana trivia where that came from. For example, we bet you didn’t know that banana and oolong tea are best friends. It’s true. The combination of green Oolong and ripe banana is the perfect balance of fresh and sweet. It’ll make you look at bananas in a totally new way. (MK Kosher)

Ingredients: Organic: Oolong, banana, stevia leaf. With natural flavouring*.

Price: $11.00 per 50g

this one was ‘the gamble’ from my last DAVIDsTEA sample spree – i love bananas but hate artificial banana flavour, and i had no idea which way this would go.
the oolong is a really nice, delicate, milky base for the light banana flavour that does come through. it reminds me of the taste of frozen bananas, how they lose some of that classic banana flavouring and gain a frosty, sweeter, more candy-like taste. now i want frozen bananas dipped in chocolate!
overall, a really nice tea. i quite enjoy it!

Sweet banana heaven!

Kay, this is now my new favourite oolong from DT. It’s just so…ugggghh, amazing. Why the “ugh”? Because I only bought 50g of this, not nearly enough for a lifetime supply, and I can’t really afford stuff I don’t need (damn my prioritizing ways!). Srsly tho guise, this stuff is really good! I agree with everyone else here in that the banana and oolong really compliment each other in the best possible way. I already like banana everything, but this tea has brought banana to me in a whole new way. I lurve it c:

So so so sweet and creamy. The liqueur is thick, just what I prefer when it comes to oolongs. I’m in buttery oolong heaven when I sip this :D I love that I can squeeze four great infusions out of this bad boy too! Ahhhh….and the scent! If you’ve ever had that wonderful Japanese dessert where it’s tempura banana with coconut ice cream…it’s just like that.

Out of the four new oolongs that DT introduced I say this is the best one.

Tea to go-initially it smelled great, tasted great, but the longer I went, the less banana I could detect. This could be because I left the bag in the cup, but it might have changed as the tea cooled. But I did detect a nice buttery oolong. It was pretty smooth. It was enjoyable, and I think I did ok with it, despite the stevia in it. I’m leaving it unrated for now, til I try it again, perhaps my own brew.

I got this from tattooed_tea, thank you!

I think that this is a nice oolong (though I’m not well versed with oolongs) and the banana is VERY faint. At first sip I was disappointed by that but the more I drank it the more I enjoyed really tasting the tea and just having a hint of banana. It was refreshing, and that hint of banana didn’t taste artificial.

I love that I have a couple cups left of this, but it’s not something I’ll likely be ordering from DAVIDs.

Day 62 of my 101 days of DAVIDsTEA challenge. Catching up on the backlog!

Bought a cuppa of this in-store.

I found this to be a really nice tea. It was a little mild, but that matches well with the flavour profiles it’s portraying — it would be odd to have them too strong.

I’d love to have more of this soon, it’s tea-licious. (Yes, I am that lame.)

Oh boy do I ever like this!

I don’t really love banana flavoured things – candy, chocolate, ice cream, etc. But I do love actual bananas, and this tea tastes like actual bananas.

As another reviewer has already mentioned, the smell is very strong, and a bit artificiall-banana-off-putting. Maybe it’s because the dried bananas have a more concentrated scent. Or something sciencey like that. Either way, I don’t particularly care for the smell.

But when it’s brewed, it’s just so lovely. The gold liquor tastes of tea! Not tea masked by layers of flavour, but actual tea! And delicious buttery oolong tea to boot! And the banana adds complexity and sweetness, complimenting it, not overpowering it. It’s so good!

Thanks, David, for bringing out these exciting new oolongs. I’m a fan.

I think the second steep is the best, by the way.

Tried this one in store as a tea of the day a while back. I definitely tasted the banana, and for once it wasn’t a gross fake banana flavour, which I really appreciated. It was also the best of the banana teas that David’s brought out in 2011, which is saying a lot since there were, well, a LOT of them! Maybe it was just the sample I got, but I found the tea itself to be missing, though. There was very little if anything other than banana flavoured water to me. For that reason I don’t think I’ll be adding it to my collection, but I’ll try it in store again one day and see if it can convince me otherwise.

I made this in to a soy latte and mmmm it’s like drinking a banana milkshake. This one of my favourite Oolong teas from Davaidsteas and I’m sad they sold out because i wanted to order more now that my jar is running low.

I am a new tea drinker – and this is my first oolong tea. I decided to go with the oolong-banana combo since a number of people on Steepster seem to enjoy it, plus it has a great aroma (if you like bananas). The aroma of the dry tea reminds me a little of those old school banana marshmallow candies (which I love). After brewing the tea, the banana aroma fades and the aroma of the tea takes over. On first tasting, I can’t say that I can really taste any banana at all (which is a little disappointing) though it maybe lends a little sweetness to the tea. I enjoy the tea – which is to say that I will be ordering a few more oolongs to see how this one compares! I will also try a second steep to see if I get more of a banana hit :)

This tea was thoroughly delicious. My first steep tasted of sweet sumptuous banana bread. My second steeping was less successful, but I’m fairly sure I’m to blame – I left the leaves in for 7 minutes and the result was a tasty cup that somehow affected my tongue so as to make everything seem to lose its flavor (as tends to happen when I eat too much candy). I’m fairly sure that’s due to the oversteeping of the stevia leaf in particular, and I’m not holding it against this tea since the first cup was exceptional.
