Gold Rush (organic)

White Tea by DAVIDsTEA

Hit the jackpot
Mulberries are a pretty precious fruit, so you don’t find them in tea very often. After all, mulberry trees are usually reserved for silk making, as they’re the only thing silkworms will eat. No wonder – they’re naturally sweet and rich, with an almost caramel-like flavour. In a word, decadent. Here we pair golden mulberries with creamy coconut and delicate white tea, for a tea that is guaranteed to give you gold fever. Eureeka!

Ingredients: White Bai Mu Dan tea, golden mulberries, and coconut. With natural and organic flavouring.

Was intrigued by the description of this one when I read it here, I’ve never had mulberries before. So glad this was a surprise inclusion – had my first cup this afternoon. So tasty! I like caramel, and this is such a nice flavour! I like the coconut in it too, gives the caramel from the mulberries a nice twist. I have to agree that the white tea component isn’t overly strong or noticeable, but I still really enjoy the other flavours in this one. Now I just have to figure out how to hide it from the boyfriend…

Had another one of these recently. Not much to add, except it tastes even better in glass.

Oh! Forgot to add – going with a longer steeping time does bring out the flavours more (thanks to everyone who recommended that!) And I does two infusions quite well.

I really enjoyed this tea. It’s very mild with a nice hint of creamy sweetness. I could definitely taste hints of coconut and the delicate flavour of the white tea complimented the mulberries perfectly. I bought 100g and I think it’ll be depleted very soon!

On a side note, a few people (including the girl helping me at DAVIDs TEA) mentioned eating the mulberries after steeping the tea. I tried this and found the mulberries to be extremely sweet and not all that enjoyable.

My taste buds are singing but my wallet is crying. I bought 50g of this and I already want a tin. Brewed it this morning for 6 minutes and the smell alone made me drool. I drank it unsweet and it was so naturally sweet and caramelly… such a happy start to the morning! I picked the mulberries out of the strainer afterwards and they were equally as sweet and delicious. This is right up there with Milk Oolong, and I think it might even take the cake as my new favorite tea.

Excited to try it iced (although I have a feeling this is going to be a strictly hot tea) and as a latte.

I am conflicted with this tea.

Is it delicious? Yes! It is such a lovely creamy caramel flavour that stands very well all on its own. The tea is composed almost entirely of berries with hardly any white tea leaves in it, and definitely no delicate white tea flavour (the coconut and mulberries make sure to obliterate any chance the few white tea leaves had.) 25g netted me just enough tea to make two pots. TWO POTS, for $6! It is such a spendy tea, I feel like a sweet dessert tea fix would be better served with a caramel flavoured rooibos at a fraction of the price.

Strangely, the sample I tried today tasted oddly pepperminty. Wondering what the other TOTD was, or if the cup was dirty… I bought a small sample though, so will try this on my own later! No rating until then.

Decided to throw some of this in a travel mug today, and it was kind of a nice change to drink as the mulberries made it quite sweet, whereas most teas I bring along are not overtly sweet. Tasty. Gave the second infusion a very long infusion and it’s pretty good as well. I don’t think I’ll restock this tea though. Too expensive for what it is.

So……. this is definitely just as amazing as everyone seems to be saying. Smells and tastes like liquid caramel. I probably used more tea than the 1.5 tsp it calls for (I usually do), and it’s been steeping for ages now… so definitely a ‘one-cup wonder’, but still. Mmmmm. I clearly did not get the right tea in my sample the other day – it definitely had icky peppermint in it.

The only thing that annoys me is how this is yet another white tea where I can’t taste any tea, so I’m paying a higher price for…. heavy mulberries. So definitely can’t make this a daily tea, but I’m still probably going to get a 100g tin of it…

ETA: I maybe take back my one-cup-wonder comment… the mulberries were deliciously sweet and full of flavour even after probably nearly 30 min of steeping. Enough to make me think that I could get an additional cup out of them. Probably wouldn’t bother, as they were so tasty, but… yes. Excellent tea :D

Alas, my third and final cup (from a 14g bag). Yes, I use more tea than is perhaps required, but those mulberries are heavy too! Will have to go shopping for this and a select few others soon!

Just steeped it directly in the mug, since I know it doesn’t oversteep and I’m too lazy to try for more than one steep tonight. And I want to eat those mulberries!! :D

Delicious.

Hmm where are the white silver needles? Anyways I have brewed a cup as is a few days ago, and although the tea wasn’t bad; it was fruity, caramelly-honey, coconutty mix of flavours, I wanted more white tea! So today I added a bit of silver needles white tea I happened to have on hand from a tiny Chinese tea shop here in Vancouver called Aroma tea house. This tea is a good fruity sweet tea probably because of the mulberries. I liked the addition of more tea leaves better than when I had it straight. Although I like the tea…due to cost (for how much I like it), I will probably not add this to my regular stash of teas.

I still have some of this left, so I brewed a pot of it today with the addition of more silver needle white tea. I drank it after it cooled down and mostly tasted the sweetness of the mulberries and then the added base tea, with an interesting creaminess at the end. Nice and refreshing for a warm day!

I was waiting at the mall for my dad and decided to pick up a cuppa. After much smelling and sampling, I decided to go with the Tea of the Day – Gold Rush! I mixed a little agave and some milk in it and left the teabag in the entire time i was drinking it. It. Was. Awesome. Sweet and light with a creaminess that wears the milk well. Definite new favourite, totally worth the $23!

This smells odd to me. I expect to smell coconut, but I’m not really. This “tea” is all coconut and mulberries – very little white tea here.

As it cools a bit, I can smell and taste the caramel that some of the other reviewers have mentioned. It’s pretty good (better than the dry smell), but I just had DTs Secret Weapon, and although they have totally different components (I’m not counting the white tea), they remind me of each other and I think I prefer that one. I’m kind of glad, as this is a heavy tea, and I can’t see myself paying the white tea price for mulberries and coconut.

I really enjoyed a cup of this yesterday, and attempted to do a second infusion of it, which I them put in my thermos and took to work. A few hours later I went to drink it, and a thick, syrupy liquid poured out instead of a nice, light tea. I guess the mulberries were breaking down a bit too much during the 2nd steep.

The first cup tastes great, but additional steeps not so good.

I must say that I was expecting more of this tea. It smells great but it does not taste as strong.
It is very expensive because it is Organic I guess and also a heavy tea. I spend close to 7 dollars for a super small amount.
If you are in love with coconut then I would suggest the Coco Chai Roibos instead.

I had wanted to try a white tea for a while but found this one way too bland for my liking.

This one left me disappointed. I tried it in store once and it was great. I bought a tin but it never tasted as good or rich after. Maybe I just prefer more bold flavours as I felt this one was really subtle.

I did like eating the mulberries after steeping. :)

Desperately wanted to enjoy this but couldn’t. All I could taste was overly sweetened, almost synthetic coconut. I tried a mulberry out of the bag, to see if they were any good on their own, and no dice there, either. Quite a disappointment. Will not buy again.
