Birthday Cake

Rooibos Tea by DAVIDsTEA

Party like it’s your birthday

What’s the best thing about birthdays? It could be the presents, or spending time with loved ones, but let’s be honest. It’s all about the cake. With vanilla icing, and lots of sprinkles. And this sweet and festive rooibos blend brings the taste of birthday cake to your cup any day of the year – sprinkles and all. Best of all, not only is it low in calories, it also has all the goodness of rooibos. Talk about having your cake and eating it too.

Ingredients: Red and green rooibos, honeybush, sprinkles, ice cream bits, natural and artificial flavoring.

Allergens: Dairy, eggs and soy

Love! My favorite David’s Rooibos! It’s sweet and super cake-y when brewed in Almond Breeze. And the red rooibos flavor isn’t overwhelming at all. Who needs baked goods when you have this little number!

Well unfortunately I’m not a fan of birthday cake tea. I’m not sure why but I really didn’t taste birthday cake or icing or anything remotely cakey. It was just sweet. Mind you, it was NOWHERE as sweet as ice cream cake tea yet it was still too sweet for my liking. Of the three cake teas, I do like chocolate cake. It’s very odd how one can appeal to me but not the other two. Not wanting to waste my 100g tin of it, I gave it to somebody who was more than happy to take it off my hands. It makes me happy to know it went to a loving home. :-) So sadly I must say no, I would not buy this tea again.

Delicious!!
I finally tried this one even though I bought this a while ago. I ordered 100g of this on the good faith that I would love it, like I love cake.
I was not disappointed. The rooibos is the perfect match for this tea. It is a sweet and almost creamy tea. It has a pretty strong vanilla flavour, or almost like a maple flavour. I can see this being a vanilla cake/icing mix. It definitely would curb any cravings that I have. I think I will have to keep a little of this one on hand for those days that all I want is a sweet treat.

So I tried this for the first time today, and I have mixed feelings about it. I think mostly they’re due to the service I got from David’s, so I don’t want to give the tea itself a bad rating due to bad service because it IS a really nice snack tea, but hopefully the next time I try some it’ll be better because I’m always a rooibos fan.

I went to the DT by my campus after class and picked up a specialty tin of The Skinny and a cup of Birthday Cake to go. I had a bit of a wait before I got my tea (and the employees kept leaving while I was getting everything and paying), but after I got my cup to go and had waited a bit for it to cool down I tried a sip and there was loose rooibos everywhere. So I opened the lid and sure enough, the tea bag had either ripped or not been sealed properly and it was everywhere. I decided to wait to try it until I got home and pour it into one of my mugs with a filter, since it was only a short subway ride, but I was really disappointed with the service.

The tea itself, as I said, makes for an excellent snack tea. It’s very sugary sweet (I had mine with a little bit of agave as well) and the flavouring in the tea comes out more than the rooibos/honeybush. I’m tending to side eye the prevelance of artificial flavours that David’s is relying on for their newer blenders these days, so I don’t think this’ll be something I’ll have too often, but it tastes like it sounds and is definitely a cake tea.

I love this one. The first steep was quite good. I could not get over the smell. Because I drank birthday cake on my birthday, I’m trying to remember. What I do remember is that it was good. The first steep was more rooibos then I would like. The second steep had more of a vanilla taste to it, giving it a more birthday cake taste. I haven’t been able to taste buttercream yet, but more actual cake. Like it’s coming right out of the oven. I am in love and so glad my sister got me this for my birthday.

One of my most favourite teas. It suits me perfectly every time. I love rooibos and the taste is perfect. I love how it tastes like a vanilla cupcake without the frosting (or the calories). I cannot give a better review. Warms my heart a little.

Here’s a secret that I try to hide from other tea lovers: I don’t really like rooibos teas, sometimes their smells will trick me into buying them (see: calming wellness tea from Teaopia that I ended up giving to my mother, and Orange Truffle from Teaopia, which I do enjoy drinking, but only when I’m sick) but at the end of the day they just aren’t my thing.
When I went to DT today (making a Happy Easter even happier) I had a list of their spiring teas I planned to stock up on, and this was not on my list. Actually it was on my “don’t accidentally purchase it because it says cake” list, and yes that was a category on my list. But then I smelled it. And saw the colourful sprinkles. And heard the girls in the shop talk about how amazing it is. And caved.
Which I am so glad I did. To me it smells like a coffee cake (never a bad thing), and tastes like those cakes that used to be at every birthday party you’d go to in elementary school (Never Ever a bad thing). I have celiac so not only is this a great tea in its own right but it also lets me enjoy the old tastes of my childhood.

  • as an important side note to other celiacs, If you are really strict about your diet I don’t know if the sprinkles Davids uses are gluten free, I took the chance because I know a lot made in North America are now, and I’m not as strict as I should be, but you may want to look into it.

I’m not a huge roobios fan, but i figured since its tea that smelled exactly like a cake I had to try it. Surprisingly it’s not overpoweringly sweet and it’s amazing. I think I should reconsider roobios teas because of this one. I’ll definitely pick up 100g of it when I run out.

Mmmmm this was delicious! It smells like the graham cracker crust that my mom used to make – and tastes like it too! I tried it without anything added and wasn’t too impressed, but when I added milk and sugar it was wonderful. Will definitely get again!

Very delicious. Not so good as a latte though.

This tea is so amazing! It tastes like a vanilla cake! Vanilla cake has never been my favourite but this tea is just so splendid!

If I were to use one word to describe this tea, it’d be: nauseating.

I was excited to try a sweet new dessert tea, and to be fair that is exactly what I got, except the sweetness was cranked up to the max. The pure sugary taste was actually very enjoyable at the first sip or two, but by the fourth and fifth sip I knew there was no way I could finish this cup.

Trying not to waste the 50g bag I bought, I tried mixing this with a scoop of orange pekoe. While that made it much more palatable, I can’t imagine finishing the entire bag.

Just poured myself a cup of this great smelling tea. The dried leaves are so pretty with lots of colorful sprinkles. First sip: I can taste maple syrup.. I can also get some caramel flavor. I am happy that this tea does not taste dirty and woodsy as the rooibos. I was really put off rooibos from the Mint Chocolate from David’s Tea. As I keep sipping I can really only taste the maple syrup, which I don’t even know if it even has it as I don’t see this listed in the ingredients. I like it, the sweetness may help me fight my nighttime dessert cravings.

Veeeeeeery sweet. It has sprinkles in it! And ice cream! Reminds me vaguely of buttercream. There’s a definite cake-like accord here. A fun tea, for sure, but not the sort of thing I’d want to drink every day.

This was my very first tea from DAVIDs and I bought it on my birthday to boot. I was very surprised by it as I had it with my ice cream cake and it was just delightful in every way! It was a wonderful hot counterbalance to my cold cake and I honestly am reluctant to have it again unless there is cake beside me since I cannot imagine not pairing them together!

I will definitely be adding this to my cupboard… but only on my birthday ;)

I really wanted to like this one. Really, really. This tastes I guess more like a watered down Oh Canada. It really doesn’t have a stand out flavor. It’s not horrible, just not anything special

I love this tea! I always buy this tea again and again! The tea smells delicious and tastes delicious as well. Just think of a vanilla birthday cake with sprinkles, that’s how it is!

This tea was too mapley for me. It basically tasted like Oh Canada!, I was not impressed.

This is currently my favourite tea. I really enjoy sweet teas, and this one is warm, comforting, sweet & comfy. My go-to when I don’t know what else I’m in the mood to drink.
