Blueberry Jam (organic)

Black Fruit Blend by DAVIDsTEA

We’re jammin’

Blueberries might just be the greatest fruit around – after all, they’re the star ingredient of North America’s favourite muffin. And hundreds of years before moms were making them into jams, jellies and cakes, blueberries were called “star berries” and revered for their healing powers. Another little known fact about blueberries is that they make for one great cup of tea – when you blend them with black tea, elderberries, cornflowers and stevia, it’s the perfect companion to your morning toast.

Ingredients: Organic: black tea from Sri Lanka, blueberries, elderberries, pink cornflower petals, stevia. With organic and natural flavouring.

Wow this is blueberry!
Out of all the teas I picked up today, this one smells the strongest and most true to it’s flavour. Opening the bag filled the room with delicious sweet blueberry!
I made it iced in our new children’s leakproof togo cup… what? My boyfriend spills a lot. haha! It’s super cute though. Sadly they were out of the stickers :(

Oops got off track. Okay this tea was pretty good iced (awesome sweet blueberry flavour, no crazy stevia aftertaste. Honestly when blended right I consider stevia the same as any other additive like chamomile or mint leaves, and this is blended perfectly) BUT – it is just screaming at me to be an iced latte.

I’m a sucker for milk with a black base. So next time – latte it is :)

Edit: Oh yeah – the reason we went on a mini Davids shopping spree?
I got the job. :D
I am now secretary to the Education dept! Not the highest of jobs, but I should be promoted within the year so… yay!

Fare thee well $1 promo! I hardly knew ye…

This is what I chose for my iced tea of the day! I ought to pick up more because it’s the best blueberry tea I’ve ever had – it’s so SO flavourful and truly unmatched to anything else I’ve tried!

Best iced with a bit of agave, but also makes a kick butt latte!

love, Ash

A big Thank YOU to Kittenna for this sample!
Well I am a self proclaimed Not a DT fan but this is just darn fine!
I did add a little german rock sugar from Butiki to my tea.
Its perfectly sweet, tastes like blueberry jam and not one little bit tart which is one thing I do love about this tea! Sometimes blueberry can be a tad too tart for me.
I got a nice sample with tons of blueberries in it! Either Kit was very generous or this tea is riddled with lovely little blueberries!
Seemed to be an equal ratio of blueberries to tea!
As good as the blueberry is a nice simply black base comes through.
Not very complex of a tea but really does take care of the sweet tooth craving!
LOVE IT!
Thank you Kit and I do hope one day to place a DT order. Its funny that I have managed not to as of yet.

Full review here http://sororiteasisters.com/ on the 20th but here are the snippits:

So I wanted something super dessert like, something really sweet, something fruity, something that would replace the fact I am not eating many “goodies” these days. This was my selection.

I could not resist all those blueberries, the sweet yummy smell of fruity goodness. This is the best next thing to having jam on my toast which I crave every morning but am not allowing myself to have right now. Lately I have been having juicy plump blueberries either in my matcha (they take the place of boba) or just on their own.

Also I love that this is made with organic ingredients! Oh and did you know how good blueberries are for you? If I could only have one berry in my life I would have to select blueberries as they just have such wonderful health properties and they are so very good!

Hum, I am impressed! for the first time in ages, I am truly marveling at a David’s creation.
With just an added drop or two of agave (as opposed to my usual three haha) it really tasted like preserves!!! nummy. Perhaps it’s the organic factor that makes it so tasty.
A little fake for my liking, and I would have loooooved to see this in a strawberry version instead. Then again, I’ve always found blueberry dessert things to taste fake. (Especially yogurt, for some reason)

Sipdown sadness! I shall miss this one. Esp since I discovered this morning that our fridge filter has finally given out. Meaning that all my tea tastes funny. Gah, I so wanted to go out with a bang on the last of my blueberry jam tea. The sub-par aqua made it sortof flat and really highlighted whatever stevia is in there. Blech. Ah well.
No more tea for me today :/
(I made three other cuppas before determining the issue!)

Oh jeez.

I made this iced since it’s like 101 and I really really really have been wanting to try it. It smelled like I was making jam! (That will be happening later, actually, but with peaches.)

It tastes like blueberries for sure! Not so much jam, since it’s not too sweet. I actually might add some sweetener to it. Though it is good like this, blueberry, and a nice slightly astringent base.

I just picked up some agave to give it a shot, at $3.69 it was worth trying. Now this is jam! This is summer in Georgia in a cup. I’m sure they don’t intend that as a Canadian company haha, but blueberry season here is soooo long that it totally is Georgia.

I am going to get more of this. And then I’m probably still going to get more of it. I want this fooooooorever!

Thanks for sending me this one in a swap, Will Work For Tea!

Yum, I still need to try this hot. I made a cup iced and let my mom have a sip and she asked me if I had anymore. Thankfully I still had enough to make one more cup iced for her with me.

It’s so blueberry flavored, and I love how there are so many little berries in it. And it definitely has all the flavor of jam without the super sweetness.
I accidentally steeped mine for only 3 minutes but it still turned out great. I prefer a long steep though.

This is note #800, wow. It’s not even in chronological order because I had it this morning! I just wasn’t feeling up to writing a note on it until now.

My boyfriend is in Chicago right now and I of course sent him to DavidsTea up there and probably ruined a surprise in anger. I apologized but seriously pretending something I want is out of stock when I just discovered I spent 70 minutes getting downtown and standing around waiting for class to start to only have class for 12 minutes was not good for my poor angry mind! So now I have to pretend I never knew.

I feel bad I ruined the surprise but I am still raging over how dumb it was to make me come all the way down for turning things in. I could have done that last Wednesday if she let us know about the feedback form for the class before then. Now I have to use the official school feedback form to complain again. Actually I just want to complain about this entire semester, because today was the last day of class. A Monday! What on earth is that?! Get over the loss of Labor Day, jeez.

This one just doesn’t taste as amazing as it used to. My bag is so full of blueberries so I assume it’s more of a lack of actual tea that’s causing that. This is one of the few black base DavidsTeas that I can steep according to the directions and not have a horrible, bitter mess. Then again, I’m steeping it at the low end of the recommendation.

However, I didn’t finish the cup before I left for my useless excursion downtown. So I came home really thirsty because I had to trek to the leasing office to get my Verdant package, and it’s SO warm out there today, so it really hit the spot. I think I actually like it better cold. Now that I think about it, it just feels like blueberry is a better flavor cold to me.

Before I close out this note, I have a request if anyone can help. Sebastian has been a very chirpy bird today, but he has specific music tastes. He really likes Jason Mraz and John Mayer. I, on the other hand, really don’t. He especially likes Jason Mraz’s song “I Won’t Give Up” so if anyone knows of similar songs I want to make him a Spotify playlist of similar songs. I’m guessing it’s the acoustic guitar that gets him. He also liked the sound of trumpets in a Doctor Who episode I was watching earlier, but when I’ve played him jazz, he doesn’t chirp.

He also apparently likes commercials for ham.

Finally getting off my lazy butt to review this. There are only a few more days left before starting my new grad program, so better do this now just in case!

The first couple times I had this, I steeped it for five minutes. The blueberry was there. Very jammy indeed, and the base wasn’t astringent, but the slightest bit of soy milk killed all the other flavours. And without any additives, the blueberry wasn’t as prevalent, especially considering how many blueberries you get. So today I tried six minutes and adding a bit of soy again. The first few sips are bursts of blueberry, truly like blueberry jam.

But after a few more sips, the dreaded stevia shows up. This is the first time trying anything with stevia, I think, but the sensation I’m now getting must be from it because it’s a lot like an aspartame attack. Maybe not as annoying as aspartame, but this is getting too much in the way of the blueberries!

Better than most blueberry blacks I’ve had (whose base is always so astringent, or the blueberry is very artificial, etc). Not my favourite blueberry tea though!

I’ve had this one a couple times now but I seem to forget to log it! For me, it comes out a bit more bitter than I would like so I tend to add honey to it to balance that out. I don’t like adding sweetener to my tea but the honey really rounds it out and adds enough sweetness that I think JAM. The blueberry is really strong in this one, reminds me of tart boiled blueberry sauce and with the honey it really does become jam for me. I won’t be re-stocking but I won’t suffer to finish it. Pretty good!

If you steep this less time it really improves it. The stevia doesn’t have a chance to get so powerful and the base doesn’t have time to get bitter. Smells and tastes like big juicy blueberries. Improved over time…Mmm!!

Although I did purchase a 12g sample of this one today, I only tried it in store as the Tea of the Day. And, it was pretty darn good! I tried it iced, and where I usually find the in-store iced teas to be on the weak side, this one wasn’t. And it did taste much like blueberry jam. I’m interested to compare it to 52teas Blueberry Cream Cheese Danish, because although one’s mimicking a condiment and another a baked good, I’m not likely to stock two blueberry blacks. Wasn’t in the mood to try this comparison tonight though.

The only possibly negative thing I did notice (other than the stevia, which people are bound to complain about but doesn’t bother me) was a touch of astringency, but given that I wasn’t the one who brewed the tea, I won’t judge it based on this for now.

Nom nom nom. Finally a second cup of this one. It’s not quite as blueberry-y as I remember, but I think a) there was more black tea in this cup and b) I may have raised my expectations for it. Nonetheless, it is still very deliciously blueberry, and I can taste the base tea this time. Definitely one of the better teas DT has released lately.

Ok, I’m being bad and really should be at work right now, but had a dentist appt this morning and didn’t eat before, then had to wait the 30 min for the fluoride before eating after, and then I got sidetracked making tea… Bad!!

So, my first attempt at brewing this one myself. I have high hopes, of course! The tea is chock full of dried berries – enough so that I used 2 tsp of tea to ensure I got lots of flavour :)

The aroma is that of a tart-sweet blueberry pie. Delicious. (It just occurred to me that I should have brewed up some White Tiger too! Drat!) The flavour is very much like the aroma, although with perhaps a bit less tartness. Blueberry Jam is a perfect descriptor, because it’s not tart enough to taste like fresh blueberries, but has more of a hot, cooked, sweetened blueberry flavour. I’m not getting too much of the base tea here, but it might just be hiding – part of the reason I was regretting not having brewed up White Tiger was because it would be interesting to compare the combination of blueberry flavour with different tea bases, because that might help me to pick out the subtleties of each base that I can’t normally distinguish from the tea as a whole. I think this would be an especially effective experiment with these two because I feel like the blueberry flavour here is quite similar to that in White Tiger (which is great because I loved it!).

Oh, and that astringency I noted from the first time I drank this, as the tea of the day? Completely non-existent. I did go with only a four minute infusion though.

ETA: Second infusion was kind of weak. I tried some of the berries out of the infuser though, and BOY were they delicious! So I think it just needed a longer infusion. I would like to try this mixed 3:1 with Bear Trap, and see if it doesn’t make a fabulous iced tea (although it probably would alone too, a bit of bite would be great!)

Bleeeccchhh. Had some of this again last night, and I’m convinced that my first sample was amazing, and my second had some serious off-flavours. Possibly from the stevia. Either way, this was quite disappointing, and I have to dump the rest of my mug out. It had a kind of soapiness to it… very gross. :(

Backlog from Saturday. Brewed this up in the office, in a travel mug. It really suffered because of it. Of course, it also didn’t cool until I left for the night (er, morning), so I drank it the next day. It was very mediocre. I’m going to have to try this again at home… but I’m pretty sure the at-work-brewing and travel-mug-brewing caused some problems. Sigh.

Oooh, I’m so excited for this one! I’ve been looking forward to it for a long time because of all the great reviews here on Steepster.

Starting with the dry leaf aroma, it smells like blueberries and something weird. Maybe it’s the Stevia? Stevia was also in the Ice Cream Cake tea I had yesterday, so maybe that’s the weird aroma here too. But it’s strange because I have some Stevia (Truvia) and when I open the package and smell it, it just smells like cotton candy and caramelized sugar. Either way, the aroma of Ice Cream Cake was waaaay funkier than this Blueberry Jam. So, I think this will be okay.

The brewed tea aroma is a little calmer in the weird department. Now it just smells like blueberries and something super sweet. I guess it really could be the Stevia that’s contributing to that weirdness. The aroma is filling up the room, and I’m definitely getting a warm blueberry jam smell now. Awesome!

That super sweetness is in the beginning of the sip, and then it dissipates and the blueberry takes center stage. This is yummy! The aftertaste is heavenly and pure blueberry jam! That’s definitely the best part, the aftertaste. I’m going to add some skim milk now. Mmm, creamy smooth! Adding milk is interesting because it usually turns the tea an almond brown color. This tea is purple! Hahaha!

The blueberry in this is very strong and kind of overpowers the black tea base. But it’s still delicious! I don’t love it as much as BOO-berry from 52teas, but I also can’t buy any more of that. I agree with others that this would probably be better without the Stevia. It’s just contributing a funky kind of sweetness instead of a pure sweetness. I’m not sure why this is weird because I pretty much use Truvia exclusively and that doesn’t bother me at all. Perhaps it’s that the Stevia has sat with the tea leaves for a long period of time? I don’t know.

Second steep for 8 minutes. The weirdness is gone from the aroma! Hooray! It’s just pure, buttery, blueberry jam now! Yum! I added milk and a tiny bit of sweetener right away before trying it. Ohhhh yeaaah!!! This is the stuff!!!!! That funk is gone, and now it’s perfect!!! Sooo delicious!!! Perseverance pays off!

I had to edit this note because this tea has easily become my absolute favorite tea ever. It is filled to the brim with blueberry flavor. Although I have only had this one iced so far, now that the weather is cooling down, I am eager to try this hot. If you like blueberries, you will love this tea :)

Wowza! This was great to wake up to, the aroma is very blueberry, fresh and sweet. This tastes just as good as it smells. I love blueberries so I really liked this tea. Sweet, fresh blueberries!
I didn’t find the stevia bitter at all. I am actually liking stevia more and more. I didn’t find that it was too sweet.
I had this hot, but I am sure it would be wonderful cold brewed. I will try that next week!

Yummy!

So so delicious.
I’m having a cuppa this at Starbucks while I work on my big research presentation. My school was canceled today due to strike action, and so I had a free day for homework.. Which turned into a free day for doing nothing until 4 pm. Sometimes you need some relaxation ya know?

Well this tea is the ultimate comfort tea for me. Delicious and sweet blueberry preserves in a cup. Anyone who knows me knows I have a large addiction to jam. Any jam. Just give me jam!
I can taste lovely malty black tea under the really nice blueberry. The blueberry aspect just keeps reminding me of a blueberry topping that would be on top of a danish…. Definitely one of my favourites from DT.

Walking home yesterday my umbrella busted in a windgust, and so I used it as an excuse to justify popping into the mall to pick up this tea. Blueberries are a favourite of mine and I tend to love them in tea, so I was super excited about it. It was my first cup this morning and mmmm what a nice way to wake up. This is a true blueberry flavour, and it is a strong one. There is still a hint of tea flavour to it, as well. The girls in the store were drinking it today as a latte. Ugly as sin colour, but it tasted delicious! This by far surpasses any other blueberry black I’ve tried. Thank you, Davids, for finally bringing us good teas again. I was getting worried!

I’ve been trying to sip down the teas that I am not in love with, or have little of, in the hopes of getting down to a core collection of fifty teas or so. This has meant a lull in drinking teas I adore, as well as being inspired to log any that I drink. I’ve managed to finish about 30 teas or so, and am rewarding myself with a week of sipping only my favourites, which this is one. I adore all things blueberry, and this tea is packed full of them and their flavour. I love it black, but when you add a dash of sweetener, you actually do get the jam flavour of its name. I still love this tea like mad and am glad its in the permanent collection.

In other news, I’m thinking of starting up a travelling tea box. Would anyone in these parts be interested in playing along?

Okay, I had this one iced and wow, what a difference. Bumping it up much higher now since iced it tastes just like jam. Om. Nom. Nom.

Wow. This seems fairly strong AND sweet. So many berries! Most of them, blueberries! The tea itself just sorta faded into the background, but I can see why it’s named after jam.

I think I would try this again sometime if I want to satisfy a sweet craving.

Thanks ozli!

And I’m cheering this sipdown because I am now (accidentally) over 110 teas, and I have more on the way from Yssah and my Ovation order.

DAVIDsTEA

Dry Leaf Nose: Black tea with dried blueberries and elderberry pieces. Red cornflowers accentuate the blend, as does the small amount of stevia.

Liquor: Brown, with a blue tinge.

Flavour: Blueberry jam.

This is my 4th new to me tea in my order (I think I’ve tried all the new ones now).
It’s definetly blueberry smelling, but more to the artificial blueberry side. And there are a ton of blueberries in there.

Alright so I’ve said before I come from the home of THE best blueberries. I don’t care what anyone says. This is now the 4th blueberry tea I try and although it’s good, I think it’s the inferior blueberry tea. It tastes NOTHING like Northern Ontario blueberries. :(
It’s too artifical blueberry like to compare. Although the next time I am going to make this on the stove with a touch of rock sugar & milk. Maybe I am just spoiled to delicious blueberries.

So I think I have to do a Teavivre order and get some of their Blueberry Fruit tea, because so far it has come the closest.

Courtney

Oh yum I can smell this one steeping from across the room. Ah blueberries. I love blueberries but usually I find blueberry flavoured things much too strong. We will see in a moment!

There’s blueberries alright but the taste is nothing compared to the smell. I was hoping the taste wasn’t as intense as the smell (since that would be like drinking actual blueberry jam) but it just seemed to be the bare minimum taste-wise. I’ll finish this sample but probably won’t purchase again.

Update: Well I cold brewed this one as well (I’m thinking a wee bit too long – since yesterday morning before work). I’m liking it more than when it was hot for sure but I’m not quite sold. There’s certainly more of a blueberry taste with a nice sweetness at the end of the sip but it seems not quite “true blueberry” enough for me. Hmm.

Update: By the end of the cup it’s grown a little more on me but still not enough for the permanent collection.

I’m drinking the teas in my cupboard that have been neglected. This on is one that my whole family likes and you can always smell it when someone makes it. It is very fruity without being overly sweet. The blueberry is definitely prominent over the black tea though.

Another thanks to Will Work For Tea for sending me this sample. I have wanted to try this tea for a while but for some reason or another have always cut it out when editing my DavidsTea orders. No longer!

This tea is one of the most aromatic teas I have had the pleasure of tasting. As soon as it meets the hot water the room smells like it is filled with fresh blueberry muffins right out of the oven. The blend of ingredients is absolute perfection. Blueberry bliss with just a hint of perfect sweetness.

So glad that I was able to try this out, and I will for certain be adding this to my next tea order.

Happy autumnal equinox everyone! Whoo, it has been long since the last note. With seminar classes resuming in several subjects and new dance choreography to master it’s been a rather full September this year to say the least. But it’s been all good. To make the most of this last free friday night I decided on this antioxidant-rich tea. It definitely lives up to its name in both fragrance and flavor. Opening the tin the sweet blueberry notes greet you with its comfortable aroma.

When brewed that is when the real blueberry jam experience comes to life. The sweet jammy flavor tantalizes the taste buds and just perks the senses. A perfect breakfast tea to have with some fresh hot buttery scones. For evenings like this it was really refreshing and a nice partner to my late night readings. Tonight in particular…was Jude Deveraux’s “Knight in Shining Armor.” A favorite of mine that is worth quite a few re-reads. Just like how this tea deserves an encore each time a cup is savored. Cheers, and happy tea drinking!

This tea smells heavenly! It’s like I’m holding a fresh pint of blueberries. I drank this without milk. The black tea base really comes through and isn’t over powered by the blueberries. Unfortunately, I’m not getting much of a blueberry taste though. I can smell the berries, but not taste them. I only steeped for about five minutes. I’ll try a longer infusion next time and make it into a latte to give it another chance.

Final thoughts: Blueberry Jam smells wonderful, and although the taste was pleasant, I found it a bit lacking. At this point I’m not sure if I would re stock this tea, it seems more like something I’ll enjoy on occassion but not frequently.

Update!: I just tried this as a chocolate milk latte and it was to die for! As soon as I added milk the blueberries really popped. I guess all I needed to fall in love with this tea was a good amount of milk:)
