Sweet Strawberry

White Tea by DAVIDsTEA

A sweet offering
There are hundreds of reasons to love strawberries, but our favourite comes from Bavaria. Every spring, they tie small baskets of strawberries to the horns of their cattle to attract berry-loving elves. Legend has it, with the elves on your side you’re sure to have an abundant year. So when you enjoy a pot of this sweet, berry-laced tea, try leaving a cup on your doorstep. You never know what your neighbourhood elves will leave in return.

Ingredients: Bai Mu dan white tea from China, strawberries, rosehips, white Silver Needles from China, hibiscus, stevia.

I want my old strawberry white tea from DT back! pouts
This wasn’t terrible. When hot, it was great. like fresh berries, all tart and sweet at once. However… as it cooled, the tea got super thick and weird. It became more syrupy, and lost the intense berry note. Certainly not worth keeping in my cupboard.
I guess if I can gulp it down before the tea gets to cold… it’d get an 88 but that won’t happen so boo! bah. I still miss the old version. Oh well. Sweet memories… one of my many gateway teas!

Unsurprisingly, this is much like Strawberry White. Definitely sweeter and more jam-like though, and along with the tasty white tea flavour I’m almost getting an odd smokiness. Not unpleasant, but quite unexpected! Not really sure where it’s coming from. This is good, though. I’m not sure whether I like the old or new version better; may have to give it a try later today, after I’ve slept…

I cold brewed this for 5-6 hours. I thought this was really good, maybe a little bit tart, but that was ok.

Nice and light strawberry taste with a delicate white background. The strawberry was maybe a little too light. I can see how this might become overly tart from the hibiscus if not brewed properly.

Not sure if I would buy this again, just because I have so many other whites that I enjoy so much better.

In comparison with the Strawberry White of old, I find this one very similar (of course), but with more Bai Mu Dan-taste and a bit more strawberry in the taste! Actually, more than a bit more – quite a bit more.

It’s still not the prominent taste of the tea – but that’s what I did like about Strawberry White – it was a delicate white tea with a hint of strawberry. This one fits the bill a bit more in terms of tastiness, but it is definitely similar to it’s mother-tea.

Enjoying it over ice with a squirt of sweetener.

I shared this with my coworker today and she loved it! yay! Then she told me she doesn’t hate any tea, except pumpkin flavoured. I can work with that. Let the tea tasting begin!

We both enjoyed it with no additions, and it was very smooth, subtly sweet and tasted exactly like fresh wild strawberries. The hibiscus turned the liquor the perfect shade of pink and added an extremely mild tartness. Gentle and soothing.

I just had a very very specific craving for an iced fruit tea latte.
Then I found this at the back of my tea cupboard! Threw the whole bag in the steeper, about 3 tbsp probably.
Sadly forgot that almond milk curdles with hot bevs, but then I made a second cup with regular milk!

Trial over: my beverage? A delicious creamy and sweet strawberry milkshake flavour! YUM!

Dry Leaf Nose: Sweet strawberry.

Liquor: Pink

Flavour: Strong strawberry flavour with a naturally sweet finish. The white teas give the cup an excellent mouthfeel and a lively, fruit-like quality.

Birthday TOTD!

I had this yesterday in my promo mug. I was really excited for this one — I looove strawberries and it was promising a strawberry punch. How perfect that it was one of the TOTDs on my birthday :D

I had never tried the Strawberry White, so I can’t compare the two. Thinking back, I’m not sure why I never got around to it, considering the aforementioned strawberry love. I guess it just sounded a little boring? Looks like I’m a sucker for a good name.

I found this a little bitter (as I often do with white teas) and it didn’t have the burst of strawberry flavour I was expecting. I enjoyed my cup, it wasn’t horrible, it was just overwhelmingly ‘meh’. White tea flavour in the background, a hint of berry sweetness, and some tart/sour notes from the rosehips and hibiscus. I’d probably have it again as a TOTD but I won’t be buying any for my stash.

I received this in a swamp from tigress_al & finally got around to trying it this morning.
The dry notes smell lightly of strawberry. It steeps to a nice red/orange colour. And tastes yummy, like a very ripe strawberry, with a touch of white tea base. I love strawberry & love this tea. I had it iced of course.

I have a confession to make… I went a little bit bonkers in my DAVIDsTEA today and bought the Steeper, leak-proof kids cup (for my accident-prone self), and four of the new teas. FOUR! It’s a problem.

This tea was first on my list to try ever since learning that my beloved Strawberry White was no longer going to be carried in-stores. I know, I know, why not just order some online? Well, I’d have to use my man’s credit card since mine is expired and that means he’d get to dictate what I’d spend. Psh… no thanks! I’ll just go into the store and buy a little bit here and there. >_<

On to the tea! When I asked the sales-girl if this was the reblended Strawberry White she told me it was indeed because they wanted a stronger strawberry flavour. It looks nothing like it’s precursor and yet smells basically the same, maybe the tiniest bit more strawberry-ish. I erred on the side of caution when brewing this, ever since discovering that white teas taste so much better when brewed short + not-boiling. Taste-wise, it tastes slightly sweeter than Strawberry White, probably due to the stevia, but I’m also noticing that I now feel dizzy and I’m only a couple sips into the cup. Great. Is stevia the culprit in my not tolerating certain teas (Love Elixir for Her I’m lookin’ at you!)?

Other than that… to me it tastes the same, but I’ll hold off rating until I know for sure whether it’s the stevia making my head spin…

It seems I have some catching up to do since I haven’t even tasted this tea again since my last review.

Had a cuppa with my breakfast of buckwheat waffles and mom’s plum jelly, quite a nice combination if you ask me. Now that my tastes are settling I could see me drinking up the rest of this in no time!

Why, DT, why?

You want to make a white, sweet strawberry tea?

THEN DON’T PUT HIBISCUS IN IT FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!

WHY DO YOU PUT HIBISCUS IN EVERYTHING?!?!?!?!

gasp

This blend is an insult to the former Strawberry White. And the quality of silver needles isn’t that bad. What’s bad is picking out little bits of hibiscus in the dry leaf and having it still be super sour and NOT TASTY.

Sipped down. Forever.

End rant.

It smells so good but it didn’t taste as good as it smelled. It was neither sweet nor strawberry tasting. I couldn’t get any berry flavour. I had it iced as a tea to go, so I might have been the prep. I prefer Teaopia’s white strawberry offering better.

This one smelled pretty good dry, but steeped it smells more like fake strawberry. I despise fake fruit tastes.

Hmm it’s not too bad for the first sip. The smell is certainly worse than the taste – thank goodness.

Eh. I could take it or leave it. Not bad, not all that great. The white tea is lovely but the strawberries not so much. At least the hibiscus doesn’t attack you.

Update: Certainly getting better as it cools, though still not good enough to keep it around.

Strawberries are one of my favorite fruits, and I was happy to see large pieces of dried strawberries in this dry mix. However, I didn’t care much for the smell of this tea initially. It smells like overly-ripe, on the brink of going bad strawberries. My first hot cup also tasted faintly of this too-ripe flavor. It’s slowly growing on me with my subsequent cups. I’ll enjoy finishing off my little sample, but I don’t think this is one I’ll be putting on my shopping list any time soon.

I had this tea on my list to try, so when we went into David’s today I decided to get a cup to go. It smells amazing – lots of strawberries! However, it’s not as full as strawberry flavour as I had hoped. The white tea base went a little bitter, which is something I can’t stand. After sitting in my (new!) mug for a few more minutes, I think the stevia helped the strawberry flavour come out more, but it just isn’t what I had hoped for.

I did add a little honey to the tea to see if it helped, but it didn’t really. The result is that this is a tea that I’ve taken off my shopping list, but if I received some as a gift I would probably drink it.

The strawberries taste like strawberries!

This was the other white tea that I picked up from DT the other day (the other being Gold Rush) and I must say, I have had this tea before I purchased some so I already knew what I was getting into but I really enjoyed it so I knew it had to be added to my stash and I certainly wasn’t wrong.

Dry this is a very white tea with little pieces of freeze dried strawberries and the odd piece of hibiscus providing contrasting colors. It has a very sweet strawberry aroma to it that will make you mouth water immediately. Steeping the tea produces the same lovely strawberry aroma and will have you watching your tea timer waiting for it to hit zero.

The final brew color really depends on the amount of hibiscus and strawberry you get when you make your cup. I made one yesterday night when I got home that was quite golden due to the lack of strawberries and hibiscus but another cup today was nice and pink because I made sure to get extra pieces. This brew has stevia in it so sweetening really isn’t required but it wont hurt it if you want some, when I had it iced it would have been a little sweeter. This tea took cookie dough and slapped it into next year taking my top spot for white tea’s from DT.

The strawberry flavour of this tea fades away in the background. Overall, the taste is very thin. I am not able to detect a full white tea taste. There seemed to be a kind of saltiness upon each sip throughout until the finish where the strawberry tastes blooms slightly.
I know that I am sensitive to the taste of stevia, so this may be what is making my tea experience less than desirable in this case.

Excellent fruity tea. It’s sweet and the strawberry flavour is very nice, it goes well with the white tea

This one has a nice and light strawberry taste. It’s pretty simple, but not boring. I don’t know if this one will make it onto my tea wall…

I picked up some samples of David’s new berry teas yesterday. The girl at the shop said this was her favorite of the bunch. This was the first one I’ve tried and I’m less than impressed. I can taste the white tea, which is nice, but the flavor of strawberries so prominent in the dry scent just fade into the background when brewed. The aftertaste is definitely strawberry, which makes it passable.

I tried this tea as a latte as well. Not bad.

I had this one as a cup to-go today with just a touch of agave. This was my first time trying this one and they did a great job naming it…it sure is sweet! I find that it tastes almost artificially sweet, kind-of like those strawberry candies. With that said, I would drink it again but I dont like it enough to buy any (especially for the price of white teas).

This seems to be my night for over steeping tea. Forgot this one for 15 min. Blech. Down the drain. That’s the 2nd tea gone tonight.

The 2nd infusion was for 4 min, and is at least drinkable. It smells mildly of strawberries, but the taste isn’t doing much for me. I’m going to put the rest of the cup in the fridge and see how it tastes cold tomorrow.

Holding off on rating until I can try this again.

I tried it cold today. The berry taste comes through a bit more than while it was hot. Apparently I’m not a big fan of fruity teas, because this isn’t doing much for me.
