From DAVIDsTEA

Floating on air
As far as we’re concerned, the root beer float is king of the soda shop. The crackle and fizz of root beer, the cool richness of vanilla ice cream – what could be better? Well, what if we brought the malt shop right to your tea shelf? With black tea, vanilla, cinnamon and white chocolate, this sweet, lightly creamy black tea blend tastes just like the classic treat. For the full experience, try it as an iced latte with lots of foam.

Ingredients: Organic: black tea from Sri Lanka, vanilla, cinnamon, white chocolate, safflower.

I didn’t really care for this tea hot, but then who likes warm root beer? *bleurgh * Served cold and sweetened with agave nectar is a different story. The flavour is pretty close to actual root beer, though I notice a slight herbal undertone from the sarsaparilla root. The smooth vanilla flavours fill in the ‘float’ part of the tea nicely and it makes for a nice refreshing drink.

Sort of a musty off-gassing smell as it cools, very aromatic leaves. Nervous as the base appears to have honeybush/rooibos, though none is listed in the ingredients. Smells true to flavor. Cloudy in color. A very strange tea. Soapy, sarsaparilla-forward, and a little spicy, but mild and somewhat meek despite a laundry list of ingredients.

SIPDOWN! I just had one cup left after yesterday’s cup of this one. No new changes in taste. A bit sad to see this one go given that it was a seasonal but there’s always other teas to be drunk!

Root beer is definitely one of my favorite pops, so when this came out as part of their summer collection last year, I was excited to try it. Upon first smelling it, it reminded me of those Sodalicious gummy candies I had as a kid. Either way, I couldn’t believe how close this blend is to the real deal. The great thing about it is that you can control the amount of sugar you put in it, plus you can create it as a tea “pop”, and it’ll still be a more healthy alternative to the sugary drink. I definitely recommend it if you love root beer (:

’Here’s Hoping’ Teabox Round #4 – Tea #3

Oh my gosh why does this one only get a 68 rating on Steepster!!?? It is so delicious! The most root beeriest of teas. Maybe others are brewing it as an iced tea and not liking it? Or brewing it hot and not liking it? I used quite lot of the blend, steeped for a few minutes right after boiling. The description here doesn’t seem like it includes everything… there is a ton of cinnamon pieces.. more than the black tea leaves. There is a ton of sarsaparilla flavor! I’m not sure what the sarsaparilla should like as an ingredient. I think there should be mallow root instead of the white chocolate chips, which I don’t see anyway. I’m surprised there isn’t more cinnamon flavor. The color of the brew is light brown so the black tea itself isn’t very strong. But whoa it just somehow tastes so much like root beer. I would drink this instead of root beer! I also added some rock sugar. The second cup was just as tasty but slightly more cinnamon. I might keep the last couple of teaspoons of this one if it is so underappreciated. :D
Steep #1 // 2-3 tsps. // just boiled // few minute steep
Steep #2 // just boiled // few min steep

I can’t believe the average rating is that low too!

I really love it but found out about it too late to stock up, and now I’m worried they won’t bring it back this summmer :(

Roswell Strange

I THINK that the rating is so low because when this first came out it was right alongside that ghastly Cherry Cola blend that EVERYONE hated – and so this one got a bit of a bad rep by association? And, the reblend (while super similar) was also better IMO, and I think many of the reviews for this one are older?

Ah, could be. Thanks!

Such an odd tea flavour. But this seriously tastes like root beer, and it’s actually pretty good iced.

So I’ve had the worst head cold the past few days so I havent really been feeling up to drinking anything hot other than, well, Neocitran. I found this in my cupboard the other day so I decided to make an iced tea today – there aren’t many I like iced so this was a pleasant surprise.
So this is really nice cold – the root beer flavour is really present, even the bite you get from the soda which is what I really like. Since a root beer float is root beer and ice cream… I decided to either make this great or gross: I added a tablespoon of coffee creamer and it was surprisingly delicious! And soothing on my sore throat. Just wish I had more of this.. only a couple cups worth left :(

Definitely my all-time favorite tea! It was the first DAVIDsTEA that I have ever drank, and it was love at first sip. I re-steep it, and I’ve already drank over two POUNDS of this one!

I can’t stand this one. It smells really good but I can’t choke it down for some reason. I tried it hot, I tried it cold… no luck! I gave the rest of it too a friend.

cough syrup. this stuff tastes like cough syrup. i was lied to and bought way too much and it tastes like cough syrup. no amount of honey or german rock sugar or mixing it with anything can save this. it doesn’t discriminate – hot, cold, it still tastes like cough syrup. i hate myself
