Bamboozled

Fruit Herbal Blend by DAVIDsTEA

Panda-monium

Lately bamboo seems to be popping up everywhere, from the runways to the kitchen. No wonder – it’s sustainable and fast-growing. Plus pandas love it. But that’s not all. According to Ayurvedic belief, bamboo has cooling properties, and drinking a bamboo infusion can release heat from the body. What could be better on a hot summer day? Especially when it’s topped up with the juicy flavours of pineapple and peach. Add it all up and you’ve got a summer drink any panda would love.

Pineapple cubes, bamboo leaves, peaches, freeze-dried apple, peony petals, rosebuds, peach crunchy.

This tisane is delicious and refreshing! Great pineapple and peach flavour – it’s super juicy – I looove bamboo and want more tisanes with it as a base!

Of people mentioning a strange aftertaste – I get it when I ice it, but not when it’s hot. I prefer this tea hot! I also think the aftertaste isn’t from the bamboo (in my opinion) because I drink a lot of Blazing Strawberries and that doesn’t have the same taste – I’m thinking maybe the peach crunchy thingies?

Anyways, I think this blend is hilarious – it’s so pretty and bold that I feel like a kid. huge bright yellow flower buds and deep red petals! Giant chunks of pineapple! feels like I’m playing with megablocks instead of lego.

Anyways, I probably won’t stock up, but this was a nice summery treat and a great choice for tea of the month!

I don’t drink this one too often, but I’m going to miss it when it’s gone!

I actually preferred it hot, although it also makes an amazing iced tea. I have my second steep cold brewing in the fridge – I’ll probably leave it in there for a few days to get the most flavour that I can.

Yummy and peachy with a hint of pineapple! Just like juice, but needs NO sugar. Love it!

Amanda Thanks for a bit of this!

I can taste the pineapple and peach right off the bat and it’s YUMMY. The bamboo is also distinct and serves its purpose well! I can taste the apple popping in and out while I sip…kinda neat! The Rose/Peony Combo is VERY muted but I’m thinking it’s there just to pull back those fruit flavors a bit so it’s not too overpowering.

LOVING the JUICY in this!

Picked up the latest DT offerings today, of which one was this lovely tea!

The aroma is very fruity-peachy. I can believe there’s pineapple in there too, but it doesn’t have the tanginess I associate with fresh pineapple, so my brain is thinking peach instead, I guess. The flavour is super fruity, with a bit of a cooling aftertaste. Mostly peachy/pineappley. Very tasty!

I think I was expecting something a little more subdued, where you can taste the bamboo (like Blazing Strawberries), but this one is very much in-you-face fruit flavour. I’m cold-brewing a bit right now too, and we’ll see how that turns out! This is great as a juicy fruit drink :) I just wish that there was a bit more complexity. I wonder how mixing this with a vegetal green would work out? I might try that.

ETA: Second infusion a weaker but still good version of the first. Fruit still has flavour, so I imagine I could have gone for a third. Word of warning though, the “peach crunchy” looks like rotten fruit and disintegrates as such. Yuck! Good thing I remembered it was in there before I got too grossed out :)

So apparently I had already reviewed this as a hot beverage. Thought I had only cold-brewed it! Either way, pretty much the exact same opinion as last time, that it’s a very fruity tea with a hint of cooling from the bamboo, and as Azzrian pointed out, it does very much taste like the tea entitled “Mango ’N Friends”, available from various tea companies. I’m getting more tanginess this time than last, as well. Although this is a great “juice tea”, that’s all it is, and I seem to be moving away from straight fruity blends and more into blends that actually have tea in them with a discernible tea flavour. Good for what it is though!

Cold-brewed in the fridge overnight. Pretty similar flavour, like peach juice. Therefore quite tasty but lacking complexity, as with the hot brew.

This tastes almost exactly like Mango and Friends from The London Tea Room!
LOVE IT!
Sorry short note tonight – not enough time in the day.
VERY fruity – like fruit juice you drank as a kid. Not really tea though. Still I love it!

I have one more tea left to try from Davids in my little gift pack. I hope it’s better than the others because this was… well it was just ok. Yet again, a David’s tea that I find biting on the tongue. Could that be the artificial part?
It was almost like a carbonated drink, in that way. I can see how some people would enjoy that. The peachy aspect was nice, I only wish that it wasn’t accompanied by that harshness I find so jarring.

So I changed my avatar to my wolf face painting in celebration of Halloween. I hope y’all don’t find it too creepy?

Aaahhh yes! October ~ the happy haunting month~ how I love the way you make it more socially acceptable for me to smear makeup all over my face, decorate my house in creepy fun, and eat way too much chocolate – lol! Wouldn’t it be great if there was an adult version of trick-or-treating, but instead of candy, people would hand out tea? We can call it trick-or-teaing!: Crazy thought of the day…hmmm…does that imply that I only have one crazy thought per day? Hmmm..yeeeah…that might be a misnomer…

Anyhooo…So I made this tea much stronger than I have in the past, and it turns out that I like it better this way – yay! It’s lightly fruity and refreshing, a nice tea to drink either hot or cold, but I think I like it a little bit better cold. So I think I will put off repurchasing this one until next Spring, and opt for drinking the Fall and Winter teas right now.

The name Bamboozled reminds me of an episode of Friends where Joey is practicing to audition for a game show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhnpTPTp_1A That show still cracks me up even though I’ve seen it too many times to count. I think I subconsciously like this tea more because it reminds me of that episode. I drink it and smile to myself. People who see me wonder what I’m up to…it’s great!

Whenever I hear the word “Bamboozled” I think of the episode of Friends when Joey is auditioning for the game show of the same name. The dry leaf here is all about peach and pineapple, especially peach. There is also a strange underlying damp sort of vegetal scent, I’m guessing from the bamboo? It just doesn’t seem right though.

I’m running into the same problem when steeped. While peach is in the spotlight, I’m detecting the same sort of cellar-like vegetal undertone in the taste. As my mug is cooling, I’m getting the same sensation that other reviewers have experienced. It’s a cooling, green sensation that freshens up the experience a bit, but the undertones are still weirding out my taste buds. Perhaps this is more promising iced.

Whew, another sip down. Glad this one is out of the way. I cold brewed it overnight. But I cheated and added a bit of Tea Desire Champagne Cassis since I didn’t have enough of this left to make a decent amount of iced tea. The Bamboozled is still in the forefront. The peach is a little more prominent now, but I’m still getting that semi-root cellar undertone, presumably from the bamboo. Sadly, the only saving grace here is the Champagne Cassis, which adds more flavour and depth to this. I can already tell that this even falls flat as a cold brew.

Trying to get through a bunch of teas to justify making orders from other places!

yay, received a box of a big swap with Kittenna where we use our amazing US-Canada trading partnership on a smaller scale for small victories..like all this DavidsTea minus an exchange rate. It was hard to choose where to begin.

Since I’ve never had a bamboo tea, and I was really thirsty for a cool drink, I figured I’d start here. This stuff smells interesting!

Lots of fruit chunks lead to an awesome fruity flavor. I definitely get lots of peach with a hint of pineapple, but I did get like 3 peach slices in the t-sac. Then there’s the weird aftertaste of bamboo with its nice cooling effect too. Kind of herbaceous and a little like basil. Makes for something tasty with the fruit.

I’m going to give it another steep too, probably just leave it steeping until it’s cool. Good stuff. Although I don’t really need to cool down today since it’s pretty nice out, this is still delicious.

I have never had bamboo before, so this was new for me. I like it!

Hot: fruity with mostly peach taste and a little pineapple, but I do get that “coolness” from the bamboo. Some people mentioned a weird aftertaste and I am getting it a little bit here.

Cold brewed: Even better peachy pineapple goodness. I am getting less of the weird aftertaste.

I might have to stock up on this one this summer.

OMG Dexter season 7 finale just blew my mind. I can’t wait for season 8. June 30. The countdown is on.

I’ve been waiting and waiting and waiting for this tea to be available in store. Finally! It smells pretty good. Very juicy fruity dry and slightly diminished steeped. I’ve never tried a tea with bamboo so I’m quite excited.

That has a fruity taste I wasn’t expecting. Tastes just like the dry smell. That diminished scent after steeping tricked me! There’s a lovely sweetness that kicks in at the end of the sip. It took me by surprise. Bamboozled, you were worth the wait. This will be upgraded to the permanent collection.

Update: Resteep just as delicious. Excellent.

Update February 17/13: Also delicious chilled. And I scored a whole tin at the south store today. The drive was worth it haha.

Ahh so happy I finally scored a tin of this. It’s been essentially the only tea I’ve been drinking for a week. Last night I actually added a bit if pineapple juice to it. Delish!

This morning I’m having a resteep as I read psych journal articles. Bleh for the articles. Yay for the tea.

This is so good cold brewed! How have I already used half of my tin of this in a week!?

Update: Looks like someone else discovered just how amazing cold-brewed Bamboozled is. I went to get a cup and half my jar has disappeared! Still enough for a cup tonight. And I just put together a fresh batch to be ready for tomorrow.

This came in my big package from momo.

This is yummy! Hot it wasn’t bad, but it did have this odd weird taste (probably from the bamboo). I put it in fridge overnight and I’m enjoying it today. This is MUCH better cold and it’s very refreshing. Nice pinapple flavor, although other fruits come through as well. No sweetener needed.

Love, love, love this blend. It’s so tasty! It’s been cold steeped as part of my Teas of Day here at home and I went through a pot of it in a day. The peachy pineappley goodness of this chilly blend is just perfect for these days at work with a less than stellar AC unit. If there are better ways to stay hydrated, I don’t want to know!

1. Open bag of bamboozled for the first time. HOLEY TEA GODDESS THIS SMELLS LIKE A HOLIDAY! So much peachy pineappley goodness in a bag! And it’s relatively light, there’s lots in that 50g bag of mine!

2. Make tea. Icing this for a cold drink with dinner. Used 3 perfect teaspoons in the first steep for 2 glasses, added another for the second infusion. The smell is still Intoxicating! It looks so bizarre steeping – the rose petals and the fruit expand out like oolong and take up the whole steeper. It looks like an overcrowded aquarium, with seaweed and fish going everywhere.

3. Steep into glasses. Hmm, there appears to be some kind of tea dust or floaties, as by the time the second glass drains its going much slower, and even slower in the second infusion. Will consider using a tea filter or a cocktail shaker next time.

4. Sipping time- ooh, tasts like tropical fruit, and is so refreshing cold! Second steep I added some agave and it was even fruitier! Wow! Love this one!

Had this one hot yesterday, and it’s just as good hot! It tastes exactly the same hot as it is cold, some teas taste different when hot or cold, but not this one. Oh, just lovely! Will re-order.

this time i brewed this and actually drank it :)

this tea is delightful. basically it tastes like pineapple water, or like the pineapple coconut water i buy but minus the coconut? i don’t really taste any peach or appley notes, but maybe they’ll come out next cup. it’s light and breezy and not too sweet and not too sour. this will be a summer mid day tea i’m sure. one vote for yum!

this morning i had the iced version (leftovers from the previous night), and again i was reminded that i’m not really an iced tea person. i end up feeling like all the flavors go hollow and are missing that spring in their step. i will continue to try chilling my tea as the seasons change and check if i still feel the same. i’m sure eventually it will click.

DAVIDsTEA

Dry Leaf Nose: pineapple, with peach notes in the background.

Liquor: golden clear liquor, with pineapple and peach aromas.

Flavour: ripe pineapple with peach notes that develop as you drink the tea.

So I have been in serious DAVIDs withdrawal since I left Kingston and moved home for the summer. It has been torturous watching as all of the new teas have come out and the reviews have been posted to steepster…
Therefore, when I found myself at FCP for work, I just could not resist visiting the FCP location. When the girl who was serving me heard of my plight, she said “you poor thing” and then proceeded to pull down every tea that I’ve missed for me to smell.
I decided to get this one iced to go, and was not disappointed. It was a super hot day and either the bamboo or ice did the trick. This tea is deliciously fruity and refreshing. Very pine-apply and peachy and a hint of some other fruit I can’t quite place (maybe the apple?). I think this one might make a good cold brewing experiment- I am rather sad that I didn’t buy any while I was there…

Bamboozled and Oh Canada (Happy Canada Day!) were the teas of the day today at Davids Tea. I had my iced tea mug with me, so I got my $1 refill and decided to try the new Bamboozled.

Bamboo tea, sounds interesting – smells delicious dry and steeped. Iced this is very light and definitely refreshing! The peach comes across the most to me, but I can definitely taste the pineapple in there – but it’s not tart.

I can see buying some of this for iced tea in the future. Glad for the $1 iced tea refills w/ the iced tea mug though – it’s a great way to try different teas!

I have been eagerly awaiting a sample of this from Courtney, and it finally arrived today… along with tons of other stuff! I tore in to this one pretty quickly, because she raves about it and it sounds like perfection.

Spoiler alert: It is.

It’s so fruity and fresh and cool and just absolutely delightful. I drank one cup hot and then did two more infusions, sticking them in mason jars in the fridge. I will have those later, and I’m sure they will be fantastic. I really love herbal teas. I had no idea that would happen.

Thanks, Courtney!

I made some jars of this for my fridge yesterday, and I’ve been drinking it a bit throughout the day. GAAAAAAAAH.

This is one of the best cold teas ever. So, so good. Thanks, Courtney. As usual.

Had some of this cold this morning, such a refreshing drink! I still have another jar in the fridge that I am saving for a little later on. It’s too good to drink all at once. Hahaha!

I am so so grateful to Courtney for sending me so many awesome samples. She’s definitely my hero.

I’ll keep it short since I didn’t like this one overly much and never had the chance to try it iced. It tastes a bit like diluted pineapple water with additives instead of real sugar. I can taste and smell subtle vegetative bamboo but it’s not enough to make this herbal brew stand out. I’m not a huge fan of the softness of peach-flavoured beverages so that may have also been a factor. It is a nice “soft” fruity, light drink, especially as it cools down, but I was hoping for more personality. It needs something.

They only had 12g left of this in the store (which I made my mom travel out of our way an extra 2 hours). I steeped this this morning & was suprised by the super light colour of it.
It was a little weak flavour wise, however I could definetly taste the mango/pineapple flavour. And although near the end of my mug it wasn’t very cold, as it went down my throat it felt like I was drinking it ice cold.
