Pineapple Oolong

Fruit Oolong Blend by DAVIDsTEA

Crowning glory

With their exotic, golden flavour and dramatic spiky crown, pineapples are clearly the king of the fruit world. Their original name was “Ananas,” from the Tupi word for “excellent fruit” – we couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Here we blend big pieces of pineapple with Tie Kwan Yin oolong tea, for the perfect balance of fresh, fruity and floral. The result? A bright, refreshing blend that’s equally amazing hot or iced. Trust us – it’s like drinking a cup of sunshine.

Ingredients: Hand-rolled Ti Kwan Yin oolong, pineapple, apricot.

Whoo! HAd this iced as the tea of the day – it did leave a little to be desired, but I brought some leaves home because I knew I could coax some more flavour out of it.

I was right! Lovely natural pineapple flavour with a delicious oolong base (possibly the same base as banana oolong? either way I’m a fan!) Creamy, yet light and refreshing.

Pineapple is not my favourite flavour, but I can say this was done well! Now, strawberry or mango oolong and I might go bankrupt, I’m just sayin ;)

I had a cuppa this to go today. and because the girl in front of me was rude and the server didn’t notice her jumping the line… I got my cup freeeeeeeee. Yay for free tea!!
I wasn’t too upset about it, as I was texting right before the girl behind me swooped in front and I had stepped up to smell the open tin of Pineapple oolong. In Fairness, it wasn’t clear that I hadn’t been served yet. Which is why I was surprised by the “on the house” cup. Started my afternoon of right! :)
Anyhow, the tea! it was good. I went for three steeps, and the second was best by far. The first was too thick and sweet but satisfying(not overwhelming the tea aspect like some DT blends), and the last started to remind me of Jasmine, which is so not my thing. So overall, it had both good and bad points.
The pineapple came through very nicely, I quite enjoyed that flavour note. In fact, if the TKY was less Jasmine like, I’d have bought some to take home. Sadly though, such is not the case! so my rating here is 79

I finally managed to take the time to brew this one up, and have to say that I’m rather disappointed. Yes, it’s definitely pineappley. But the oolong is lighter than I was expecting, and would have liked (aka I can barely taste it, and only if I try to). I only have enough leaf left for another tiny cup (this was a big cup, as I was making it to throw in my Timolino), so will have to see if a longer infusion helps. Otherwise, this one’s not too terribly different from Bamboozled. I doubt it will ever beat out Banana Oolong for me; that tea is just special.

Sipdown! And technically kind of a double sipdown, because I both finished off my sample packet as well as an additional packet I received in my Boxing Day online order.

I accidentally steeped this one for 2 minutes longer than intended, but it doesn’t seem to have caused any problems. The flavour is unmistakably sweet, tasty pineapple. The only problem is that I’m really not tasting the oolong here. That’s one of the things I love about Banana Oolong – the delicious, strong oolong flavour.

Looks like the previous note I made on this tea said much the same, so I won’t be picking up any more of this (but I now have a renewed desire to get another 50-100g of Banana Oolong before it’s unavailable).

The brew is a nice light yellow.

The first sip is sweet, creamy pineapple with floral oolong in the background at first. In the aftertaste, it is that nice floral oolong with a little hint of apricot.

Resteep 90degrees, 5 minutes. A little less pineapple flavour, the apricot and oolong come out a little more.

For being a pineapple oolong, I maybe would have liked it with a little bit less apricot. But I do really like this

Bought some of this today after trying an iced sample – I was really impressed with the sample, it was distinctly pineapple (of the dried variety) but the oolong was very present at well. Excellent balance!

I didn’t realize I never posted a longer review! We finished this one up today and it is on my re-buy list, honestly. The oolong is there but very subtle under the sweet pineapple. It puts me in mind of dried pineapple more than fresh, but that’s okay. It is one of the rare cases where a flavoured oolong meshes really well for me. It is a bit cost prohibitive, but it’s also an excellent treat to enjoy once in a while.

I continue to be amazed at how good it is!

Whoop, whoop, I am set up for school! Dad spotted me a bit of money to cover tuition until my Christmas bonus comes in on Friday (I hope), and I got all my tea gear in my locker, if not my tea – sugar, spoons, filterbags, wee travel mug. I went to SBUX tonight to test the hopeful hypothesis that they will give me hot water for free after the Market closes as long as I don’t need a cup, and this hypothesis has so far proved correct. Yes.

So I’m finally getting around to my sample of this that I’ve had floating around since…it came out. Yeah, that long. I let this steep longer than I meant to, but it seems none the worse for wear.

And ooooh pineapple!

I’m such a fan of pineapple-flavoured stuff. Not so much the actual pineapple, because I have difficulty with the texture. But juice and flavouring, that I can do.

This one just has an awesome balance of flavours, to me. There are some people who seem to like the base to be stronger than the flavour in a flavoured tea. I don’t quite understand that; if I wanted only tea flavour, I’d drink a straight tea. And I do drink straight teas, but I generally want a strong flavour in a flavoured tea…and a base which is not weak, but which takes to the background and meshes well with the flavour.

That is the balance I’m getting here. The oolong is nice, but I’m more aware of the pineapple. Pretty much exactly what I want when I picked up something called “Pineapple Oolong.” It’s very bright, and the bit of floral I get at the back of the sip is actually working with the other flavours. That’s nice, because floral notes sometimes make me rather queasy. Then again, that may only be when they are added to the tea and not natural to it.

There also seems to be another fruit in here. From the description, I’m guessing it’s apricot? It comes out a little more as the tea cools. I bet this would be amazing iced!

I want to give this a couple more shots, as well as try it iced, but I think this might end up being a cupboard keeper.

Very nice, anyway. And very relaxing, which I need just now. I had my first Women’s Studies class today, and I really don’t know about the prof… I was about 3-4 minutes late because the building the class is in is numbered in a really confusing way, and I went down the wrong hallway at first. She did not give me a chance to sign the attendance sheet. Um, okay? If this were even the second class, I would accept that, but geez, people coming late because they couldn’t find the room is something that HAPPENS on the first day!

And then she rushed through her PowerPoint slides and didn’t give us more than a few seconds per slide to write anything down – some slides she didn’t even show because she got so caught up TALKING, which I guess must be the only way to communicate! And her written notes suck – no complete sentences, because she’s one of those types that puts up the barest sketch of notes and then “fills in” during class.

ADHD makes my working auditory memory virtually non-existent, so I depend on clear written notes, and the shitty notes she gave us aren’t even on the student Blackboard, so apparently she’s also one of those types who withholds written material to blackmail people into coming to class. So now I have a few pages full of half-finished sentences, and the barest idea of what we discussed in class because I can no longer really remember it. In a few days, I will have no memory of anything she said at all.

I came to the library stressed almost to the point of tears, but the tea is helping immensely. I am definitely never going to her class from now on without tea in hand. And maybe a discreet voice recorder. But mostly tea.

Um. Can you say DELICIOUS?!
Pineapple creaminess with some apricot flavours going on and a yummy TKY base. Shared this lastnight with a friend (not a huge tea drinker, but a big lover of earl grey) and they said “yum what is this? It’s really good.” I’m attempting to convert them (gently of course haha)

Either way, lovely lovely tea. I think I may like this one better than DTs organic banana oolong. It’s just a really nice sweet pineapple tea with a delightful oolong base. What more could you ask for? Nothing.

SOLD.

Also – I just put the leaves free in a mason jar and have been sipping from it all day (by adding water when it gets low). The flavour is staying constant and delicious as always!

DAVIDsTEA

Dry Leaf Nose: sweet pineapple, complemented by the oolong tea.

Liquor: golden-green clear liquor.

Flavour: sweet summer pineapple – the apricot is light and brings a bit of tartness to the blend, which highlights the lively character of the oolong tea.

Also received this in one of my orders.
I brought a bunch of samples over to my moms, when she said she should have another coffee, I told her she should have tea instead.
About 5 mins later she asked what kind if tea I was making her. She chose this one.

She said it was too sweet for her.
I had a sip, so technically this isn’t a tasting note. It was oolong, creamy, buttery, slightly floral & definitely pineapple. Im not usually, or ever a pineapple fan, but I would like to try this again, because the sip I had wad quite good.

Michelle Butler Hallett

Made for me at a DavidsTEa store.

And you’re saying, Michelle, for the love of all that’s good and pure, stop trying the flavoured teas, because you hardly ever like them.

I live in optimism.

This one is pineapple-flavoured hot water. Some mineral notes as the liquor cools. That’s it.

softrevolution

This tastes a lot like candied pineapple! Which is both nice, and slightly disappointing. I was hoping for more of a juicy-fresh pineapple flavour, with some of the tartness and acidity that I associate with the fruit. I always hope for this in pineapple flavoured teas, but it’s never there. BUT it is still delicious, and refreshing, and really flavourful. I love that I can actually taste the toasty, creamy oolong base.

I had this iced along with a big old slice of tomato soup cake I had made the day before. Mm, delicious together! The rich spicy cake and tangy-sweet cream cheese frosting played well off the tropical fruity tea, and actually ended up reminding me of carrot cake. Oh how I love food and tea pairings!

My DavidsTea order finally came! This was one of my free samples, so I decided to try it with lunch. I made it hot, but think this would be a better iced tea.
I can taste the oolong and a hint of pineapple, but the flavoring tastes really artificial. It also has a creamy taste and texture that I don’t typically associate with oolong. Not bad, but not something I would buy either.

It’s pretty good, but it isn’t my favorite tea. It is light and refreshing, though I think this is still best hot. I think I still prefer Long Life or Happy Kombucha, but those are both darker oolongs, and the nice think with the Pineapple Oolong is that it is a lighter base, so I do like that. I probably won’t repurchase as I like the milk oolong better overall.

Continuing my trend of reviewing my backlog at 4am when I have insomnia! I finally dived into my sample of this one today after losing it at the back of the basket for a little while. Pineapple is not a favourite fruit of mine, be it in spears, cubes, or on pizza (SHUDDER!). But sometimes teas change things into marvelousness, and so the oolong had to be tried.

And I am really glad I did. This was a lovely mellow tea with pineapple notes but they didn’t override the tea. The first cup was much more pineappley but second steep was perfect for a non-lover like me. I’m really looking forward to seeing how this one will blend with some of my other oolongs, especially other fruit flavours. I think it’ll be a great tea to highlight others!

Gots me a free sample of this from a really nice girl at DAVIDs last evening. Woohoo free tea!!!

Well it smells like white wine to me when steeped hot. Am I the only one who thinks this? Probably lol! But it does. Anyway it is nice but I do find the oolong base a bit to light for my liking. With so many more oolongs to try, I probably won’t purchase again anytime soon.

I have been meaning to try this tea for quite some time now because I really love pineapple, and I also looooove oolong. I needed a new oolong tea on my shelf because I finished my tin of Happy Kombucha (I need AT LEAST one oolong on my shelf at all times! s during my break at work this weekend and I asked for this one hot. Of course the new employee messed up my order an made it iced, but it is okay because it tasted amazing!!! It was so good that I had to go in the next day during my break at work to buy a lovely blue tin of it!!! I am glad to have this one as a part of my collection (:

I gave myself a pat on the back for not picking out one of those little candied looking pieces of pineapple from the dry tea and eating it. Have you tried it? Is it as good as it looks? I enjoyed this oolong and felt I was able to taste both the tea and the pineapple which I thought was nice. I drank it both as a hot tea and a cold tea, and I prefer it much better hot. Overall, pretty darn good. Maybe not one that I must constantly have stocked in my cupboard, but certainly one that I’d occasionally buy a small bag of again.

Mmmmm…This has more pineapple taste than I remember. It’s not overwhelmingly pineapple, but I don’t have to search for the flavor either. It’s a nice light tea and I got two good steeps out of the leaves. I’m glad this one was available in the 2 for $5 pouches; otherwise I probably would have forgotten how good it is. Just like the first time I made this, I had to fight the urge to eat the candied pineapple pieces in the dry mix – the kid in me is pouting.

Does anyone else find it a little Funny that Steepster’s spell-check doesn’t recognize the word oolong?

My tea stash is shrinking! I’m just finishing off the last of my pineapple oolong. I hope at least one of my tea orders arrive in the mail sometime this week, I have a hankering to try something completely new. This oolong has a delicious fresh, fruity pineapple taste. I got a few really good steeps out of these leaves today. It’s one of those teas that tastes great hot or cold. DEEEELISH! I can’t wait to try more DT oolongs.

Dry it smells like someone just cut up a fresh pineapple in my house. Pineapple is not my favourite – I like it, but I don’t love it.

Steeping it smells strangely like children’s grape Tylenol. That doesn’t bring back great memories. The scent of this one is turning my stomach but I’m trying to keep an open mind as it cools.

Nope this one isn’t for me. The smell is too much. I managed one sip and it tastes as it smells.

I was served this as the Tea of the Day at my local David’s tea.

This tea was served on ice. I was impressed at how I could really taste the oolong in this one. I definitely need to go back to get a full cup.

Very sweet. There was a definite oolong taste present but I would have preferred that it was more pronouced. Oolong and pineapple are an interesting combination and I feel that the flavours went well together.

Bad sleep!!!!!
Must have good tea.

This smells like a candy shop that mated with a giant angry pineapple.
I don’t even like Pineapple and this makes me salivate like crazy…TMI I know but I’m trying to be thorough here.

It is a lovely gold color all brewed up.Doesn’t smell quite as crazy good but I’m hoping the taste will follow through like a punch in the face.

woooo I’m getting graphic.

I know I’ll have to try this iced but first hot I think.

my verdict..it’s not what I was expecting simply from the smell.
It’s definitely Oolong with a nice pineapple frame.

I wanted so much more from this.I was expecting sunshine and got a hot, stuffy day with no sun.

LindaIrvine my bff will like it I think..
