From DAVIDsTEA

Crowning glory

With their exotic, golden flavour and dramatic spiky crown, pineapples are clearly the king of the fruit world. Their original name was “Ananas,” from the Tupi word for “excellent fruit” – we couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Here we blend big pieces of pineapple with Tie Kwan Yin oolong tea, for the perfect balance of fresh, fruity and floral. The result? A bright, refreshing blend that’s equally amazing hot or iced. Trust us – it’s like drinking a cup of sunshine.

Ingredients: Hand-rolled Ti Kwan Yin oolong, pineapple, apricot.

I tried this in the store and then for $1 I tried it in my cup. It’s not bad but I would rather have Butiki Teas oolong or Bamboozled.

MMMMmmmm. It tastes light, but not too subtle because the pineapple flavour still comes through nicely without the thickness you find in actual pineapple juice. I agree with the salesperson who sold it to me in the fact that it tastes more like candied pineapple than fresh pineapple, but how can I complain when I adore candied pineapple so much to begin with? This is one of my new favourite teas, and I hope it becomes permanent after August. It is fantastic iced!!!

Sipdown. It was a free sample with the purchase. I like it. I wanted something simple, kind of sweet. Pineapple is very pronounced but not sickly sweet. Resteeps well. I bet it would be great iced.

This is a lot better than I thought it would be. It’s another sample that I got from a friend, and she loves pineapple more than any other fruit. I love it, too… but for some reason felt iffy about having it hot, in tea. I was totally wrong, it’s quite delicious. Especially paired with oolong, it’s a delicate kind of flavor that still allows the floral-y oolong to come through. I really enjoyed this cup, and I’m looking forward to finishing off my sample.

This was the perfect cup of tea for me to pick this morning! Pineapple is probably my second favourite fruit (after mango!) and I was excited but hesitant to try it (the last oolong I tried from DT I either let steep wayyy to long or it just tasted way too floral). If anything I think this one is a little weak, but maybe I just didn’t use enough leaf. The pineapple definitely comes through in both smell and taste. It isn’t a fresh, juicy pineapple flavor, but more of a pineapple candy (clear gummy bears?). It is definitely sweet enough all on its own, and I can’t wait to try it iced!

Sipdown!

I spent this weekend making tea packages for my fiance’s mother and some coworkers. This is one of the teas I included in each of the packages. I really enjoyed Long Life Oolong as a bedtime tea and was hoping Pineapple Oolong would be another before-bed treat. Unfortunately for me, not so much. I split the remaining bit of this tea between myself and my four tea packages.

This tea steeps up to a golden yellow color. The scent of the dry leaves is as lovely and pineapply as ever. I added raw sugar to this one after it had steeped and found that one packet of sugar turned into into an unpleasant fruity syrup. The second steep (with a bit of the first steep left over) was better, but even so, this isn’t one I’ll reorder. I just don’t like it enough, and I’d rather not have I-can-tolerate-this teas in my cupboard.

On the bright side, all this tea packaging has cleared four teas out of my cupboard. And my best friend is splitting the DAVIDsTEA spring collection with me. And I finally made a Timolino decision. Yay!

Where do I even begin with you, Pineapple Oolong?

You’re pineapple, which means you taste fresh, delicious and sweet. You’re tea, which means I can ice you, latte you, heat you and steep you. And you’re an oolong, which means I can steep you more than once.

There’s just.. I can’t even… get in my cup! >_<

First test for my new baby- my Breville Tea Maker! Happy Birthday from my grandma! I am a truly spoiled grandchild :D

I wanted to start out with a tea that I could brew a bunch of times in one day, just to test it out! And I have to say I am impressed (both with the tea and the tea maker)! Its a lot of fun to watch it drop in the basket and take it out when the timer runs out!

The tea is goooodddd! A great blend of pineapple goodness and earthy oolong. Third steep was the best, leaves fully unfurled in the basket. Surprisingly the pineapple stood up well to multiple steeps, I was concerned that it wouldn’t.

I am not the biggest fan of pineapple on the planet. Especially, for some reason, in tea. I haven’t really found a pineapple tea that works for me and doesn’t taste like tropical death—or soap. I got this one as a sample in my (huge) tea order so I figured why the heck not.

I liked the pineapple. It’s not kick you in the face pineapple but a nice subtle flavor. I really loved the hint of apricot. It’s one of my favorite flavors and tempers the sweetness of the pineapple. The oolong was a bit light for me but still good and added a nice creaminess to the tea.

This is totally not a tea I would have purchased on my own but I did like it. I will probably buy more for the summer because it would probably be much better iced.

Tried this as TOTD, and will most likely purchase some to take home. The pineapple taste was strong, like candied pineapple, which I love.
