Toasted Marshmallow

Black Green Blend by DAVIDsTEA

Toast master
Everyone loves a camping trip in the fall. Fresh air, beautiful scenery, hungry bears – ah, the great outdoors. Well, okay, we’ll admit it. We’re only in it for the marshmallows. Nothing beats a freshly toasted marshmallow straight from the campfire. But what if you want to satisfy your sweet tooth without going camping? Try this tea. It’s a sweet, toasty black tea blend with cinnamon, brittle and…you guessed it! Mini marshmallows. Now you can enjoy your favourite outdoorsy treat without a hungry bear in sight.

Ingredients: Black tea, marshmallows, brittle pieces, cinnamon, allspice, kukicha green tea.

This is my second David’s tea and I had it thanks to Darby.

The dry leaves have a scent of rum… or am I crazy ?
I see very few tea in this tea…many marshmallows and chocolate chips but really few tea leaves …I am suspicious and a little worried.

I steeped it 5 mn and the scent of the liquor is really spicy (cinnamon is the leader)
I don’t get the marshmallow taste, just sugar.

Had the impress to drink a hot water with cinnamon and sugar – weird

As mentioned this is only my second DT and I have the same problem : I don’t really taste the tea base. I get the flavours (not all) but not the tea base.
Really odd,I’ll continue with testing DT, I’m sure I didn’t taste the 2 main teas of their collection.

Awaiting to taste their masterpiece …which is ? to your opinion ?

So, I was supposed to go with my friend on a DT date. I was waiting for that to go and get the fall teas. But, with all the reviews up on here, I couldn’t wait any longer. I finally got my fall teas yesterday! Fall teas are probably my favourite flavours and it is my fav season as well. I am rambling….

This is what I have been waiting for!! Sweet and a little spicy. Cute little marshmallows that dissolve quickly. They do make the brew a little bit cloudy though.

As for “toasted marshmallow,” I would agree with DaisyChubb that it is probably closer to eggnog. Either way, it is delicious.

Oh, and did someone say latte?…….this would be amazing as one…..be right back!

I had 1/4 of my cup left, but then I warmed up 1/4 cup of milk in the microwave and poured my remaining tea into it……….WHAT? Who put that eggnog in my cup? This is honestly delicious! What a sinful treat (but not as sinful as eggnog….lol).

So there is a recipe for s’more cocoa on DT’s FB page. I decided to try it because I wanted to treat myself this morning….just because! I made it a little different than their recipe though.

1/2cup milk, and the rest water to fill perfect mug
1 perfect scoop cocoa
1 perfect scoop Toasted Marshmallow tea

Very lightly simmered on medium heat for 10minutes.
I strained this tea into my cup over 2 marshmallows.

WOW, this is delicious, a real treat. Creamy, sweet cocoa. WIth a little hint of some nutmeg and allspice. I would maybe put a little less cocoa next time. But really, this is delicious. And I deserved it! lol

Dry Leaf Nose: Sweet with marshmallow notes.

Liquor: Rich brown liquor.

Flavour: Cinnamon and marshmallow surface as the main flavour components with the tea lingering in the aftertaste and brining a liveliness to the liquor – reminiscent of s’mores or toasted marshmallows.

Got this as a latte today!
SOOO yummy, I can’t wait to pick some up!

I definitely prefer when I get a latte because they use the Steeper instead of a Tsac – I just feel like they add a bit more leaf so it’s super tasty!

But on to the flavour. The kukicha added a nice roasty base and the allspice definitely made it taste like eggnog. In a latte form, it was pure indulgence! The mini marshmallows were AWESOME! They melted and made this amazing texture that added to the eggnog feel, but also added the marshmallow presence that gave it it’s name. I’m quite happy with this addition to the fall collection, it’ll be a nice change from Pumpkin Chai :)

Honestly, I’m not sure what I was expecting with this tea! Something good, for sure, but it occurred to me that I hadn’t really put much thought into what I’d expect a “toasted marshmallow” tea to taste like. Other than, delicious, sweet, burny, toasty marshmallow, of course!

Unfortunately though, this is just coming across as a rather sweet chai to me. I can definitely taste the distinct flavour of marshmallow, and beneath it a cohort of light chai spices. Spices don’t = toasted to me, and as the marshmallow flavour is of a raw, untoasted marshmallow, this tea doesn’t hit the mark implied by its name. That said, I’m enjoying it as a light chai, it just probably wouldn’t be a tea I’d go back to again – I’d probably prefer not to have the marshmallows in it and instead sweeten the tea myself if necessary.

ETA: Re-steeped today, in half the water and for who knows how long, and ended up with a watery, disappointing, chai-ish flavoured beverage. I hadn’t been expecting marshmallow, but thought there might be a bit more flavour. Guess this tea’s only really good for one infusion.

Second attempt at this one. Still tastes to me like a creamy, chai-ish tea. A little less spicy today and a bit more marshmallow-creamy, but toasted marshmallow it is not. I would really love to see smoky teas used in blends to create awesome flavours instead of just spicing; toasted marshmallow would work so much better IMO with a light black tea base, pinch of lapsang souchong, marshmallows for creaminess, and possibly caramel pieces like in Salted Caramel, to give that burnt sugar flavour that toasted marshmallows have. Mmmmmm.

Sipdown! I keep thinking that I didn’t like this tea, and then being surprised that it’s tasty. Happened again tonight, haha. I think it’s Stormy Night, the other tea I’m having some of tonight, that I disliked. Or something else. Anyways, this is pretty tasty today. I’d call it something along the lines of Marshmallow Chai, as I still don’t taste “toasted” marshmallow, and there’s spicing in here. Along with an incredibly delicious amount of creaminess that must be from the marshmallows. Mmmmm. Not bad at all, though not something I need to keep around (well, had I fewer teas I probably would).

Anyways, farewell, another tea packet! My “sipped down” box is growing! (Yeah, I’m keeping all my used up packets so I can see that I’ve actually made progress, hahahaha.)

I’m going to rip right into this one, just like how the allspice rips right into the mingling sweetness of the dry leaf. It’s allspice, all the way. The cinnamon is a little shy here. Not surprised since my pouch is filled with whole berries. This actually makes me think of my grandma’s pumpkin pie even more so than Pumpkin Chai. And as a runner-up, it reminds me of a chai latte that is heavy on the nutmeg.

The steeped tea smells like that too, but loses its sugary sweetness. Taste-wise, we’re looking at more allspice. Creamy sweet allspice. The spices in this are not at all fiery. I absolutely love how there is kukicha in this. In a toasted marshmallow tea? Genius! It really mellows out the overall flavour profile.

Although the flavour doesn’t directly resemble the taste of marshmallows, it has a similar fluffy, comforting quality. Also, this is sweet enough on its own, in my opinion. It even gets sweeter the closer you get to the bottom of the mug. Maybe I’m getting some brittle sediment.

This would be fantabulous as a latte.

I received this tea in the mail today from a swap with nwolf93 and am so excited to try it! It smells good – really sweet with a touch of cinnamon. I’m not the greatest fan of cinnamon, but this tea seems like it has just enough to give it a little spiciness to compliment the other flavors without it being overwhelming. I was worried to see that the tea appears to be a little thin after steeping, but the flavor is perfection – very creamy with marshmallowy goodness. David’s Tea absolutely hit the nail on the head with the flavor and name of this one! I added milk and sweetener, but this tea is so sweet by itself that it would probably be best with milk and just a little sweetener next time. I’m very happy I received this one in the mail today, as it’s a perfect tea to enjoy on a rainy day. Now if I could only build a fire inside and make some smores to go along with it!

-Dry blend has black tea leaves, lots of twigs, tiny marshmallows and pieces of brittle. Marshmallows partially dissolve during steeping.
-Dry blend smells very sweet, like vanilla icing, with a hint of cinnamon. Tea liquor aroma is of warm sugar and cinnamon.
-Tea liquor is a cloudy medium yellow color.
-Toasty with a creamy marshmallow flavor. Sugary-sweet finish.
-Best with milk and sweetener. Not much sweetener is needed.
-Very good tea. Very warming on a chilly day or as an after-dinner dessert tea.

This is so good. I had to try it after my first sniff! I have to say, I’m not getting much toasted marshmallow from the flavor, but that’s okay because I’m in love anyway! Because while the name might be toasted marshmallow, this is the eggnog tea I’ve been searching for! It’s creamy and spicy and utterly beautiful. Definitely getting a tin and putting it next to the Santa’s Secret for the holidays.

Oh my God this is my happy place after a stressful day at work. It’s finally cold enough to drink hot tea again so I celebrated with this beauty. Love, love, love this blend. Love it.

Whenever I try a new tea, especially DAVIDsTEA, I like to wait for a special moment. And as much as I’d love to follow what the Fall tea collection says and take these teas on an outdoor adventure, unfortunately I do not have that luxury yet.
However, I am enjoying the moment that I am in now, watching quiet rain fall outside my window, with nothing but dark green glistening leaves from the hedges in my view, and listening to woodsy music.

This was the first tea I tried from the Fall collection and the one I was most excited about.
The dry leaf smell doesn’t smell like marshmallows to me, it smells like apples and spice. After that initial disappointment, I can’t expect the tea to taste any different.
This wasn’t the first time I tried it, and I’m actually almost through with the bag, but I doubled the tea this time for hopefully different results.

I’m just not impressed. It doesn’t evoke anything in me or remind me of a toasted marshmallow in any way. It should be called Marsh Apple.
As a Marsh Apple tea, if you double the amount of tea, the cup is drinkable, but not very enjoyable I’m sorry to say. I don’t get it :(

I went a little crazy at DT today. I couldn’t help it, so much yumminess! This was an impulse buy, I went knowing what I wanted, but I was purchasing some of this for a swap and once I smelled it I had to buy it.
It is the flavour equivalent of a warm blanket and a good book. Cozy, comforting bliss. Cinnamon and allspice come out the most with a tough of sweetness from the marshmallows.
The fall collection can never go away.
On another note I finally bought a new kettle, no more CaveMama.

Tea of the mid-morning here…

This stuff is definitely sweet! I added some soymilk also and I am getting lots of cinnamon and allspice. In fact, I think someone should rename this tea to be “cinnamon sugar cookie” because that’s what it reminds me of. It’s not a bad dessert tea but I don’t think I will need anymore once my current supply is gone.

My DAVIDsTEA order arrived today. I have to first say this is the fastest I think I’ve ever gotten my order and I didn’t pay for speedy shipping either! I had to rip right into this one as it was one of the top in the Fall Collection that made me order.

The dry lead smells pretty sweet with hints of cinnamon and all spice flavors going on there. And yes I may have picked out a small marshmallow or three to eat on the spot. While the tea was steeping the flavors that came out reminded me of camping and camp fires. All warm and smokey and the smell was amazing….more cinnamon and spice and light on the sweet.

The taste for me is more of the same with a hint of almost a s’more like quality. Seriously this is some pretty awesome stuff! Good think I thought ahead and added another 50g bag of it to my order! :)

So there’s a wee bit of a smokey note to this tea. I say “a wee bit” because I noticed it but it didn’t set off my asthma. My mother may disagree though, because she said she came downstairs from her bedroom afraid that something in the house was burning. The ingredients just say “black tea” though, not “lapsang souchong” so I think it’s just the flavouring. It does certainly catch a hint of smoke in the smell though, as well as something else which reminded me strongly of some sort of hard booze. Unfortunately, I can’t place what. Rum, maybe?

I was perturbed by the sheer number of twigs that appeared to be in this blend until I noticed the ingredients also listed “kukicha.” OH. Well, then. Of course, thinking it was solely a black tea at that point, I had already poured just-boiled water over it, but it seemed to hold up well regardless. I am totally unfamiliar with kukicha green tea by itself, unfortunately, so I have no idea what it is contributing to the taste.

The tea itself is surprisingly laid-back and mellow. I really expected more punch to it, but it’s not there. That’s okay; it’s quite nice regardless, with a mild sweet spice to it and a creaminess at the back. I felt it was a little weak though, even at a 4 minute steep. So I naturally did what you’d do to any weak black tea – right? – and poured milk into it. I mean, why not?

It’s great with some milk, warm and comforting. But…overall, it’s just a wee bit bland, oddly enough. I’d take either Pumpkin Chai or Glitter & Gold over this one, yet I also feel like this is maybe one that could grow on me. I don’t normally review on the first cup – I like to let the impressions of several cups come together – so I may come back to this one and re-review anything about this tea I may have missed.

Josie Jade and Cavocorax have been discussing Toasted Marshmallow recently and it made me wanna have a sip too.
i used a teabag for a change. i decided i’m gonna try using tea bags for teas that tend to have floaties and gummy residue in general. you know the ones. the gummy residue on top of some cups tends to really distract from the enjoyment for me so i’m sure this will be helpful.
the scent of this tea is really delicious and weird. it smells like marshmallows,… but it doesn’t.
it brews a golden foggy honey color. i guess it’s slightly too sweet of a cup for me. plus i wish it had more cinnamon in it. something sweet with a kick. i’ll try adding a cinnamon stick next time i brew this! great ideas, i’m full of ‘em!
i have a nice amount of this tea left and i’ll save it for dessert on the weekends. yummm

Wow, I had really high hopes for this tea. Also, I have a cold so my tastebuds might be off and impaired today. I will definitely try this again and change some things and hopefully increase the rating.

I used 2.5 tsp of tea for my Perfect Mug of this. Somehow though, this is still really weak tasting and is light in colour. There was hardly any tea bits; it was mostly balls of spice and a bajillion mini marshmallows (and yes, I ate one, and it was delicious and spicy and yum). Watching the marshmallows froth while pouring boiling water over them was rather satisfying (I caught myself going “froooooothhhhhh”, and then thinking to myself “good lord Robyn, you can’t even be normal when you’re alone”)

I will say that this is the first tea I’ve ever had that I didn’t feel the need to sweeten. Like I said, it was 75% marshmallows. It’s plenty sweet. It tastes vaguely of cookie dough spices and cinnamon. It’s pretty lacklustre to be honest. If I had to compare it to something, I’d say cookie dough.

Next time: Increase the brewing time to 6-7 minutes instead of 5. Use over double the leaf recommended. Maybe add some sweetener even though it’s already sweet. I’m grasping at straws here, maybe sweetener will bring out some of the flavours. Oh, and next time, don’t be a snuffly sick mess when you drink it.

I’m dropping my rating of this. The first time I tried it I was sick and gave it the benefit of the doubt.
Having it again last night, I can say that this is one of the most disappointing teas I’ve tried. It’s chock full of marshmallows (which is great!), however there is hardly any tea. It’s just marshmallows and little balls of allspice. The product is a murky, sort of vaguely sweet and nutmeggy water. I used double the amount it said to and still got an undrinkable mishmash of spices and melted marshmallows. Yet it doesn’t taste like marshmallows, it just tastes….watery and sweet and a bit spicy. It’s just not very good, it needs more tea and less spice/marshmallow! To use up the rest, I think I’ll just add some plain breakfast tea in when I make this.
If you want a well done marshmallow tea, try S’mores from Della Terra teas.

A much different cup of tea than what I normally like but I can’t stop drinking this! I started off with 100g and was already getting low so I’ve went out and stocked up on another 150.

It pretty much tastes the way it is supposed to, very toasty, a tad woodsy, a hint of marshmallow, and a sweetness at the end. Honestly, my only critique may be that it’s too sweet for my liking. Other than that, David has a lot of genius.

The whole fall davidstea collection has really got me excited (after all, it is the best season!) so here’s a picture of my brand new mug that I am enjoying some fall davidstea in. http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m9p7h5WC601rpx5rco1_400.jpg

I’m very surprised how much I’m enjoying this tea. I usually tend toward white, green and/or fruit flavored teas (which this is very much not). I am also not usually the biggest fan of spicy black teas particularly with cinnamon, but this tea just somehow works for me. It’s just so familiar, but I can’t quite put a finger on what it tastes like. My best description is not so much a taste as a feeling: it’s like sitting around the fireplace after shoveling snow on Christmas morning. Cozy, delicious, warmth….mmm…

I can see that there are marshmallows in this, but the taste just doesn’t say marshmallows to me. I suspect the medium-light cinnamon spice taste overpowers the marshmallows a tad too much for me to experience the marshmallowiness. It’s still delicious though, and the taste reminds me of a warm home on a cold day

I finished this one today. I’m gonna miss it, but I see that Davids has introduced a new collection- so that should ease the pain. If this one comes back next Fall I’ll be sure to buy another little pouch, but for now I’m looking forward to what’s new.

I’m sipping on this while I bake brownies and roast a turkey for a potluck with friends tonight. It’s a lightly spiced blend – the cinnamon and allspice are evident in each mouthful. Paired with the scents coming from my oven, and the brightly colored leaves outside my window, it really feels like Fall.

This tea tasted somewhat like hot cinnamon toast crunch cereal. I kept trying to pin down what the flavor was and why it was so familiar. Originally, I made this tea without sugar or milk. I almost NEVER put milk in tea. However, when I added milk to this tea it really made the flavors JUMP out of the cup in a much more dimensional way. It also helped with the mouthfeel by giving the tea additional creaminess. This was an interesting blend, one I am happy I got to try. Thank you KallieBoo! for sending me this sample.

WOW this was so sweet! I’m not a sweetened tea person, and this was verging on the border of too sugary for me sans any added sweetener. That being said, it was delicious.
One of my favorite things in the world is going up to visit my friend Becky and her family in northwestern Oregon. They always feed me a lot of good food, and at night we make a big bonfire and toast giant marshmallows (I like lighting them on fire then blowing them out). Toasted marshmallows remind me of bliss and good people.
This tea tastes like toasted marshmallows and cinnamon. I might end up mixing it with a straight black tea to cut down on the sweetness, but the first cup made me smile for sure.

Having a cup of this to celebrate the end of the week! I did add one teaspoon of straight black tea to cut the sweetness a bit, and it’s almost just right. Still a bit too sugary for my taste, but it’s a great treat at the end of my day! :)

Today was my first day at my work study job in the library, and it was AWESOME. The librarians I’m working for are so nice, and the collection (I’m in special collections and archives) they have is huge!

Back to tea! Cinnamon and toasted marshmallow, you make my day.

As a huge fan of dessert teas and chai teas, this tea played a perfect melody on my tea tasting heart strings! If all the other teas in the world disappeared only to leave this one behind, I don’t think I would complain!

I was a little hesitant of how delicious this tea would be due to the fact that upon opening the package all I saw were little tiny marshmallows. “Where… where are the other ingredients!” They were there, just at the very bottom of the pouch (international shipping does that I suppose). Upon looking at it I really resigned myself into typing up a review saying that this tea needed, well, more tea in it and less “other stuff”. But surprisingly the taste of black tea is potent enough to still shine through.

I don’t even know where to really begin reviewing how deliciously and awesomely amazing this tea is. All I can say is that if you like chai, dessert teas, or holiday (spice like) flavored teas, then this is the tea of your dreams.

I’m going to have to do some serious stocking up on this stuff…
